Hey guys, the media scanner on my phone won't stop running and it's making my phone hot as hell. I've already rebooted twice, and I've cleared cache and dalvik.
I'm running Blazer 4.0 and I'm underclocked and undervolted. Kernel is Gunslinger 1.4.1. Modem is FC24. Any help would be appreciated!

EDIT: After a couple of hours it went away on its own. Oh well!
I had to restore a nandroid the one time I had that happen.
this just started happening to mine yesterday. it comes and goes though, never just gets stuck there. i noticed when i pull the NB down it's showing as "scanning media storage usb". so crazy that you just posted this. maybe its our phones wigging out because sprint is currently trying to push ICS OTA to all et4gs right now can't hurt to dream lol.

It's a corrupt mediascanner.apk or mediaprovider.apk (depending on what part it's stuck on.) Try redownloading Blazer and push both apks to /system/app.
EDIT: I've had this happen to me when I tampered with mediascanner.apk while theming.

I had this issue not too long ago. it will drain the battery in nothing. To fix it, clear media storage from the apps menu (in settings) and then reboot (so it rescans the card). You'll see that media storage data cache is very large (about 100 to 250 MB).
Some ppl have reported that doing this resets ringtones
Media storage issues
I had a similar problem- My issue began ( I presume ) when I had phone in Aegis case) in a horizontal position in leather pouch- If I somehow moved around to my side where phone was at- I would inadvertently press the power button to cause it to reboot- Then a ringtone ( minimal tone ) would play for 5-10 minutes- drove me nuts- So I tried this- In app Rom Toolbox, I went into root browser, system/media/ringtones/minimal tone ( I had identified the name of tone playing first by going through titles of tones in all sounds ) I clicked on the tone- and selected to delete that file. Then I rebooted phone. However- I am not an expert-
If I did this wrong- then a big oops- However- whenever I reboot phone after
I flashed a rom ( blazer 4.0,) Then 4.1 1 month later- gunslinger kernel, and now fc 24 modem- the tone is gone still- EXCEPT when I ran calkulin modified zip- it somehow restored the deleted file. And I deleted it again. now- a brief tone plays for 2-3 secs. I asked developer of rom toolbox why if a file is deleted- how it can be restored. Anyway- I ended up deleting any ringtones/tones that suck- that came with phone to remove additional bloat and avoid annoying sounds issue(s). Feedback/corrections welcomed !!

Yeah it works but when you put more files on the phone the problem reocurs.I have to clear the cache everytime i put new files on my phone-and thats not good.
Hopefully Jellybaen fixes it,this is worst problem i had in all my android life.
I had this happening at random about 6 months ago on stock rooted EL29.
Reflashed with OneClick Odin, didn't fix it. Then with full wipe OC-Odin, still there. Tried Calks EL29 ROM with full wipes, it kept doing it.
Reformatted and even replaced the microSD card, no cookie.
The only thing that solved this issue for me was full wipe, ODIN stock, then format BOTH internal and external storage after first boot.
Just make sure you back up anything of importance beforehand from your phone.

Maybe you have some corrupt media that's screwing with it? Considering you did a full wipe when you reinstalled each ROM

Hey guys.
So for obvious reasons, most ROMs need wiping - which is fine. But when I got my HOX, it was semi-second hand (dude bought it, didn't like after a couple of weeks) so I did a factory reset wipe from the bootloader and I noticed it deleted all the pictures and music that were in the /sdcard/ folder.
Now, I have a TON of music and pics in there - filling out most of the 32gigs. Is there a way to wipe without deleting everything in that folder? Backing it up each time is going to be a pain.
Erm you need a pc to flash so copy the stuff you wanna keep to the pc befor you flash....

Ignore the previous post, but when you factory wipe/wipe dalvik cache/ or any rom related wipes, you do not touch the part of the memory that your HOX has designated as SDCARD, therefore anything that is saved to an area that you can access from the phone while its running Eg. pictures songs videos and such will not be affected, it only affects the internal section, the rom/internal apps/and system settings.

Sorry, missed one part, do not do a factory wipe from the bootloader, this is a complete refresh to the state it was in from factory, instead if you have rooted i would recommend installing a custom recovery, like CWM or something, so when you do the factory wipes and such, it will not affect the /SDCARD/ area.

With CWM 5.8.4.0, bootloader's factory reset option takes you automatically to Recovery screen, so all files on SDCARD remain untouched unless you format your SDCARD from recovery.
Thanks you guys!
Title pretty much says it all but i have a question..Let's say i was to flash a ROM onto my phone that i had already flashed before but then decided to flash a different one but i also kept the .ZIP file on my phone. If i was to flash back to that old ROM would i keep certain things like the WIFI codes and the wallpaper i had before i went to a new ROM?Because this seems to be a problem for me. Also Would this problem be fixed if i downloaded a fresh ROM copy from the internet or off my Laptop?

Flashing the exact same ROM over your current ROM will tend to cause no issues, but no guarantee. Flashing to a different ROM, now thast a whole new can of worms. Its HIGHLY ADVISED to wipe all data and cache then flash. Use TDJ superwipe in CWM to do this, or you can use TWRP and do a factory reset. Now, depending on the ROM, you either flash gapps, or sign in into google. Either way, you have to sign in. If you would to chose to google to back up your phone, which is the default settings, then your wifi and wallpaper will be restored. You might have to restart to get the wallpaper back. Having the ZIP on your phone makes no difference in the way the ROM installs. The zip is no different then any other piece of data on your phone. You can find all the resources ive mentioned the development thread.

P.S Don't be afraid to wipe all your system data. It won't touch your SD card. Your pics and files will be safe. Only your ROM and programs with its data will be deleted. Use titanium backup or ROM toolbox to back up your data. SMS backup is a good program to backup your SMS.

Strictly answering your specific question... "If i was to flash back to that old ROM (ed: after flashing a different one) would i keep certain things like the WIFI codes and wallpaper i had before i went to a new ROM?"
Simple answer: NO. When you flash a ROM, generally whatever was on the phone will be lost. Generally, it's like installing a new copy of Windows on a hard drive that has been partitioned into more than one partition. Whatever was in the partition the new Windows was installed to will be overwritten (<< note key word). Stuff that got overwritten will be lost. Stuff that doesn't MAY still be accessible assuming you didn't format the partition first. While stuff that is in the other partition will likely still be there, but may not be useable due to various reasons. In the PC example: installing Windows on a formerly Linux pc and retain the other linux partitions. The data's still there, but Windows (without massive driver/software support) will not be able to read the other partition and will ask you to format before using, which WILL then destroy all data there.
Stuff like wallpaper, it depends. If it's a wallpaper that was a file saved on your SD card or one of the stock wallpaper that came with the ROM, you can reuse it, however, you WILL need to reselect it (unless the stock wallpaper was the default one, which sounds like it was not, in your case).
Stuff like WiFi codes, all bets are off, and I wouldn't put any $ down as chances are VERY good that that information will have been erased. That's why you are supposed to keep backup of that information, preferably in a location away from the device.
Only data stored on the SD card and whatever partition that was not specifically erased/overwritten by the installation process will remain, and if you follow generally good practices, you should have had erased the various partitions and caches on top of the installation to ensure maximum reliability of the ROM. Thus only what you have on the SD is the only thing that would be retained after a ROM installation.

I agree, I too use Titanium. If you're really concerned about saving data (like that WiFi codes), then you will need something like Titanium and a SD card. Just remember to restore that data.
Please be aware that this assumes that you are using the saved data from the original ROM and, after trying a different ROM, you are going back to the first one.
If you are trying to migrate data (like the WiFi Code), for example, from the second ROM to the first ROM, this will only work IF both ROMs used the same software to handle WiFi and data are stored/used the same way in both ROMs.
That's why it's a good idea to keep a hard copy of the account and password information backed up separately from the application that's using the information. At the very least, in a text file stored on the SD card. I prefer using Dropbox and store it OFF the phone itself.
In this thread you can post your experience, questions, and all other stuff that is not directly related to the RE-FLEXxx rom.
I do this to keep the dev thread clean.
Thank you for your understanding.
I will take a look into this thread from time to time but the main goal is so that users of the RE-FLEXxx rom can help out each other and that they can find help from each other in one place.

I installed 2.0 on my N5110 (coming from 1.9) and it is working well but the top of my tablet is non-responsive to touch. Happened on other releases but a reboot always fixed it. This time the problem remained, so I tried wiping cache, dalvik, fixing permissions, reboots, and all sorts of combinations. I did finally manage to fix the issue yesterday after one of those reboots but now the problem just reappeared and won't go away. Any suggestions?
Edit: Finally got it resolved with a full wipe of data, cache, and dalvik through cwm recovery. Then I flashed Civz reflexx Rom 2.1 and rebooted. The top of the screen still did not respond to touch, so I rebooted and now everything works perfectly.

yes, hd happened to me, I re downloaded and reflashed it again and is OK now..
well, I finally installed twrp, and backed up my stock rom, so I am getting ready to flash the first custom rom on any tablet I have had!
one quick question; I am a very experienced rom flasher; I see in TWRP, there are several options under the wipe menu, and, I know to check the first 4 options before flashing this rom; then, there are 2 more options, wipe internal card, and wipe external card.
I know not to wipe my external card, since all my "stuff" is there...should I wipe the internal card before flashing, or is that not necessary when flashing this rom from a stock rom?
I apoligize if this belongs in the the TWRP thread, but I thought since others have probably gone through this, I wanted to post the question here as well. I guess I should post it in the TWRP thread as well...
thank you!

This is my opinion on it.....I usually only wipe the internal card if I am starting completely over with flashing a device. Wiping data/cache is usually all that is needed but if there are a lot of apps that get installed over time their folders get left and every so often I like to wipe it to get rid of all the "orphaned" folders. If you are going to just restore all those apps anyways then it won't make a difference either way. If you are going from the stock rom to a TW custom based on the stock it shouldn't be necessary to flash internal.
thanks man, that is what I thought, but, since I have never flashed a custom rom on to any tablet I have owned, I wasnt sure if there was other "stuff" on the internal card that might be needed no matter what; and, yes, since I will just be restoring all of my apps pretty much once I flash this custom rom, I might as well just leave the internal card alone...
I appriciate your fast reply!

Please take my advice with caution...I did not take your point into consideration because I have yet to do it on this particular tablet (only had the Note for 1 day). Never had a problem on any other tablets/devices but who knows. I wouldn't think there would be an issue. However, like you say probably no reason to wipe internal if you will just be restoring them back anyways.

tun.ko or tap.ko?

Chrome screen bug solution
Basically the problem is the notification bar, combined with the lack of on-screen softkeys. In order to fix it, you need the following:
Xposed Framework:
http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/public/Android/XposedInstallerDownloadUnsigned.apk
How it works:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
App Settings manager:
http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/public/Android/Xposed/AppSettings_0.4.apk
I've been using this combination on my tablet for a while now. It lets me change the resolution for individual apps. For instance, I want the tablet mode of Gmail, but I want my tablet to run in phablet mode so that I get the top notification bar and no softkeys.
The Chrome fix is simple. The app settings for the Chrome executable should have the fullscreen option toggled, the DPI set to 160, and the screen resolution set to 800x1200. It then hides the notification bar on top while you're in the browser, and shifts the screen that quarter of an inch where it is offset due to the Chrome bug on tablets without softkeys. If you need to access the notification bar, simply swipe down on the screen from the top edge and it will pop up.
If the print size is too small, you can use the accessibility settings in Chrome to scale up the font size.

Question
I'm thinking of flashing a new ROM having used stock for month or so now. My concern is regarding the apps I have installed and am currently using, specifically FolderMount.
If I flash a new ROM (either civs older 4.1 build or his newer 4.2 one depending on how he is progressing), will I lose the links?
I have about 25GB worth of game obb and data transferred over from my internal memory to my micro SD. I dont fancy using up all my download allowance having to re- download and install all of those (plus the time it takes to transfer them all over). I dont mind losing the layout of my homescreens as I'm thinking of shaking that up anyway.
I've only one past experience of flashing a Rom and that ended up with me having to reinstall and set up all my apps (jump from ICS to JB on my Asus TF101)

I had an app installed called Android Tweaker Pro (or something like that). It was a legitimate Play Store App [although it was later removed along with many other apps as Google wanted to eliminate apps that had "Android" in the app name.] However, the real problem is that it was a root app and it was originally designed for Kit Kat.
I had not really touched it since I upgraded to Lollipop, and when I was running Kit Kat, it worked great... it has numerous tweaks (mainly to build.prop), however, in the past, I typically used an option in the app called "auto tweaker" which changed a certain set of variables. It was a safe route, as it clearly warned you up front not to enable all of the tweaks.
Well, I opened it tonight, and changed a few settings... I believe I changed/increased the video fps, and I think I optimized the LED flash, and I also enabled the "Power Supply", which the app explained reduced battery use if it was turned on.. But I don't think any of those things were really that big of a deal.
However, there are two more things I did that may be the cause of my problems:
ONE: I foolishly set the Dalvik Heap SIze to 0K. (I think it had a max of 512K). I don't know why I did that exactly... I think I assumed Dalvik wasn't being used in Lollipop, so I thought it would free up memory.... it was a total clueless move I realize, and of course feel like an idiot.
SECOND: I zipaligned all of my apps. I didn't think to look up if zipaligning apps was necessary anymore... which was also foolish I realize.,
Anyway, after it finished zipaligning my apps, I rebooted. The splash screen and then the T-Mobile animation ran but then froze at the HTC ONE screen. I powered it off a few times and tried to restart again—but there was no change... My phone was just frozen at that boot screen after the animation.
I booted into recovery, and the only thing I did was rename the Android Tweaker "base.apk" to "base.apk.bak", but I didn't really think that would help. I also tried to find the build.prop file to see if by chance the tweaker app made an automatic backup so I could restore it....but had no luck finding it the build.prop file at all... It doesn't seem to be where it used to be prior to Android 5.
So what I am hoping to do is find out where Lollipop keeps its build.prop file (or whatever it's equivalent is now)...and see if there was a backup made and restore it. IF not, then I am looking for suggestions.
On the other hand, if this is because I zipaligned all of my apps.... then I have no idea what to do.... Please offer suggestions. I will be eternally grateful!!!
Note: I think I can do a factory restore, but I cannot lose what is on my extended storage, so unless I can backup extended storage using adb (which I would think doubtful given I cannot boot into the phone), I really, really do not want to do a factory reset.
My sincere appreciation in advance for any help suggested!!!!!!!!
EDIT: If it helps at all, I am currently S-Off (with an unlocked bootloader), and I have an old nandroid backup. It is pre-Lollipop upgrade. SO...absolute worst case scenario (aside from losing my phone altogether), is to restore Kit Kat, and then do the OTA again...restore all my apps, etc. But I cannot imagine there is just some file I could delete using TWRP recovery that would be regenerated upon boot.
If I had to restore the KIT Kat nandroid and do the OTA, it would just take several hours...And it is 5:00am where I am and I need to use my phone by 8am.... SO, I hope someone has some alternative. I would settle for a way to back up my extended storage, and then somehow push a rooted nandroid of lollipop on the the storage and restore that with TWRP....
Any other ideas are appreciate of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By extended storage do you mean SD card?? If so just take it out and do the factory reset.

No... Extended storage is not a separate SD card, it is a partition for storage. The HTC One (m8) has a 32 GB extended storage partition (I think it is a partition anyway). It is not however, a physical SD card (although one can be purchased to expand the storage).
So you're S-OFF and rooted but running a fully stock ROM? I would just download the full version of whatever ROM you're using and dirty flash it over everything, it should at least fix your build.prop and any other tweaks that might be lingering. Obviously a full wipe and reinstall would be the safest way to go.
Ok mate. If your rooted use titanium back up or my back up pro to back up the contents of your phone storage then do the factory reset or restore a stock nandroid from the stock back up thread.

This is what I would suggest. All tweaks seem to be to the ROM, so dirty flashing the ROM should fix it.
OP should have made a nandroid before doing any tweaks of this nature. Not sure why so many folks skip this step. It takes about 5 minutes and saves a lot of headaches.

YES YES... I am regretting this... I have been rooting Androids since 2010, and I know better!!! But this app has been so familiar to me, plus i just spaced out on the backup....
OK to both of you (two previous replies)... BUT I CANNOT BOOT INTO THE OS... I AM LIMITED TO TWRP only!
How do I get a nandroid on extended internal storage... I tried to connect via ADB while in fastboot mode... no luck.

I've never heard of internal storage referred to as extended storage. In fact ExtSD refers to the removable MicroSD card.
I would suggest calling it internal storage to avoid confusion.

Try adb in TWRP. adb won't work in fastboot or hboot by definition. It normally works within OS or in recovery.
Alternately, you can use a removable SD card and a USB card reader connected to your computer, put the ROM on the card. Then insert into the phone and flash in recovery.

OK, so if I use adb in TWRP, I should get my device to show up when I enter:
adb devices
?
Then I push the nandroid to internal storage? And to what directory exactly??? I apologize, I just have never had to do this before...
The HTC ONE m8 has the capacity to purchase an additional external SD card (which I don't have).... But I suppose I could get one if that would make it easier...

ADB won't work in fastboot mode, fastboot will though (ie "fastboot devices" should show your device). If you boot into TWRP, however, you should see your device in ADB.
Then you can push either your NANDROID if you want to go all the way back to that, or a ROM that you downloaded to your PCif you want to do what we suggested.
Can you not see your device via ADB when you're in TWRP?
EDIT : Sorry, slow on the draw. Push teh file to wherever you want, you just have to browse to it via TWRP when you try to install.
> adb push filename.bin /sdcard/
would be the way I'd go. Then wehn you try to "install" in TWRP you don't have to look too far

Also... to add another reply to this... I wouldn't mind so much if I had to do a full wipe and reinstall.... BUT this would wipe my internal storage... If I could back this up, then I might do that.. I will try to connect via ADB with TWRP running.

Try a dirty flash first (just wipe Dalvik and cache). If you still run into issues, full wipe and flash.

I never did SuperCID, so do I need to get a stock firmware download from the TMO M8 forum? And also, why is the stock ROM better than a stock nandroid? Just curious.
I am trying to do this fast as I need my phone now to make an important call... so my thinking isn't very lucid and fluid.

Yes, I'd suggest the "top" directory of your internal storage as well, when you adb push the ROM. The ROM can go anywhere on internal storage, you just need to navigate to the proper location in TWRP. So putting it in the top means less typing for the adb path (and therefore less chances for error), and less taps in TWRP to navigate to the ROM.
Another option is adb sideload. Which in theory is less steps (pushes the ROM and flashes it with a single adb command): http://teamw.in/ADBSideload
But in my experience, adb push is more reliable then sideload. I've had (and seen others with the same) sideload fail for no apparent reason, while adb push works fine.

Stock ROM can be placed anywhere on internal storage. Nandroid has to be pushed to an exact location in the TWRP backup folder (which includes your serial number). Otherwise TWRP won't see it when you select "Restore". You can navigate to the proper zip when you select "Install" (flash a ROM), which you can't do for "Restore" (nandroid).
Getting the exact path right (for adb push) for the nandroid is more complicated. I've seen lots of folks here who have had trouble with this.

Installing a stock ROM will just install the OS, while a stock nandroid may blow away your apps (I'm not entirely positive on that). If the ROM matches the ROM you were using before you shouldn't have to worry about updating firmware or anything.

OH yeah... of course... Nandroid backs up all of the apps.... OK.. Well I am all for flashing a stock ROM.
Now... my only problem is that I cannot find one. [Very sorry to ask all these questions... if I wasn't in such a hurry, I would leisurely research this stuff on my own]. But as said, since I am still a TMOB CID, I cannot use a generic ROM from the regular HTC One (M8) forum, correct???
And when I go to the HTC One (M8) T-Mobile forum, I see RUUs, Nandroids, radios, boot.imgs.... but no Stock ROMs.... I posted a question about where they might be in a thread I thought was appropriate at the T-Mobile M8 forum, but do you (or anyone reading this), know where I might find a 4.20.531 Stock Rom for TMO???
Again, my sincerest apologies for asking for all this spoon-feeding.... I would never ask these things if it wasn't bordering on an emergency (a job issue)....
EDIT: OK I found what I think is a TMO stock ROM... but this is a nomenclature issue, and I am not very adept at it... IS AN RUU the same as the STOCK FIRMWARE/ROM? I ask because the only time I ever used an RUU was when it was an exe windows file, and it wiped/reset my entire device....

ROM shouldn't care about your CID, tha'ts for firmware and all that. Any ROM that works on GSM will likely work for T-Mo.
An RUU will wipe your entire device.

By the way I know you're in a rush, but rushing is how you make bigger mistakes. I'd try and borrow someone's phone for your important call so you can carefully do what you need to do and not brick your phone or lose all your data.

When you restore a nandroid, you can select which partitions you do or don't want to restore, by checking or unchecking the boxes as desired. You can restore /system without restoring /data. Not sure, but I also believe the nandroids in the stock collection do not include /data partition backups.
Really, the main difference is getting the adb push path correct for a nandroid is a bit more complicated (but not impossible by any means) than a stock ROM.

Yes...wise words... But, I am really in an usual situation. Kinda of isolated at the moment.... but I will slow down nonetheless.
OK... In this HTC One (M8) generic forum, there is this thread/post...

It says it is a stock ROM zip for MAC users? What??? Why would there be a difference between a stock ROM for macintosh and windows??? This is really confusing me more than I ever anticipated.....
If you want to save your internal storage data, the simplest way that I can see :
a) Install latest TWRP 2.8.5.0 where you can mount the Internal storage in MTP mode
b) Download the stock nandroid backup here : https://mega.co.nz/#!7JgQ2DJL!Ko33MVU49EyS__r7BqS3qYWFF02faKab19VkBYhI-F0
c) Transfer the extracted nandroid backup to your TWRP.BACKUP/SerialNo/folder
d) you can try to restore only partition part first or together with boot, so you have your data ... just do wipe dalvik & cache after restore system and restart
