Hello forum-members!
I have a question I really want to ask: How can I update my Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660 from stock 2.3.3 to CyanogenMod 9.0.0?
With CM9, I mean the version for Gio, as found on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414173
At the moment, my mobile is like this:
Firmware: stock 2.3.3
PDA: S5660XXKPS
PHONE: S5660XXKPA
CSC: S5660XENKP1
Rooted using the update.zip-methode, installed Titanium Backup
ClockWorkMod-based Recovery v5.0.2.6 installed (But I still have a problem with it, it says things like 'E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command' and 'E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log', no idea if I have to fix this or not...)
So, how can I update this stock 2.3.3 to CM9? I only have a lot of experience with jailbreaking, but not with flashing ROMS and installing special Android tools, so a bit of step-by-step guide.
If you think updating to CM7 is better for me, since that's a more complete ROM, please say it, which CM7 ROM, and how it can be done
I hope someone is able to help me, as I would really like to use a nice ROM on my Gio
You should use cm7.2, its stable and fast..

Okay, I am still thinking what I am going to flash on my phone... But one thing; If I do it the way you just posted here, I don't have to install CM7.2 before installing CM9?

Okay!
Well, to be honest, I think I will flash CM9 on my Gio if a new version comes out.
But what if it turns out wrong, or when the ROM does not meet my expectations? Is there a easy way to return to the stock 2.3.3 firmware?

Flash clockworkmod recovery, make a backup, wich means all dats cache system will be backed up, so you can flash cm7 or 9 without problems and restore the full rom via the backup if you dont like it

Yes, I already flashed a version of ClockWorkMod (px-CWM-v2.zip), but as I mentioned in my first post, I have a problem with it... Do you maybe know a solution? I heard something about ext4 or something like that to fix it?

u're installed wrong version of cwm

u should use this one

Okay, thank you!
One last question: if I update to CM9, will my baseband get updated?
If so, will my carrier still work with my phone?
It wont, so it will work

READ: If I wee you, wait for alpha 4 to release tomorrow and flash tomorrow. It fixes a lot of problems and you cant yet use the current version very good :S
Please, help me!
I installed CM9 beta 3 on my gio, after flashing the CWM-version phiexz posted here in this topic (http://www.mediafire.com/?3umwbz3gg6oo6c6). I did everything discribed in the topic of CM9 for Gio port.
Flash Special Clockworkod Recovery for CyanogenMod 9:
skip this step if you have special clockworkmod (CM7.1/CM7.2/GM9) installed on your phone
Download: px-CWM-v2.zip
Place it on root of your sdcard
reboot to recovery mode
install this cwm from recovery
I didn't have to do this first part, since I already had CWM installed on my Gio.
Flash Cyanogenmod 9:
Download and copy the latest CM9 ROM to SD Card
Reboot to Recovery Mode
Select Install zip from sd card
Select Choose zip from sd card
Select the new CM9 rom package
Select Yes - Install update
Wait till the Installation is finish
Now select Wipe data/factory reset
Confirm
Now reboot to phone.
Wait and enjoy CM9 on your Galaxy Gio
I did everything just as described here... AND I did not forget to select 'Wipe data/factory reset' as said in this short tutorial, so that's not the problem!

But after all this, it stucks on saying 'ANDROID'. If I turn off the phone, it automatically turns on again. I can still enter CWM Recovery, but if I click on 'restore backup' (because I made a backup of my stock ROM before flashing CM9), it says:
Code:
Checking MD5 sums...
Eresing boot before restore...
Restoring boot image...
Restoring system...
E:format_volume: format_rfs_device failed on /dev/block/stl12
Error while formatting /system!
My question now is:
Is there a way I can make CM9 work on my Gio (I prefer this one), restore my backup, or connect to Kies, so I can place a clean stock ROM on my Gio?
I hope someone can help me!

Note that cm9 is not in beta 3 but alpha status.
You can flash cm7, same instructions as cm9, much more stable.
Try installing a different version of CWM and restore
Or read tutorials how to use ODIN and flash stock rom

Thank you for your reply!
I was already planning to flash CM7 now, but there was only one thing I was still wondering about.
The Cyanogenmod 7 instructions topic says:
NOTE:
It's not automatically wipe your data. if you want to install fresh rom, you must wipe data before install it!
If you from stock / custom rom based on rfs filesystem, u must flash ext4-formatter.zip before flash CyanogenMod. link & instruction can fount on This Thread. otherwise you'll stuck on android logo because it cant mount rfs filesystem!
have problem after upgrade from earlier cyanogenMod? you should wipe your data!!

Will the part (here marked in red) still work? And, if so; how to use this? I mean: since my main system is not booting anymore...
Oh, wait!
I flashed the file ext4-formatter.zip and afterwards, I tried flashing CM9 again, and it worked!

Cm9 booted??? All firmware is on sammobile.net , also kies firmwares, but the site is not connected to samsung
By the way if you used ext4 formatter zip you use an version of cwm wich has been removed back to construction to bugs, so you should use another one, in the same thread

First thing is to go to your recovery again. May I know what is your recovery? Is it CWM? Then, if you have important data/files in your internal sd card don't wipe your DATA, just flash a ROM then reboot.
After you reboot, get your important files and transfer for a while in your external sd card then try a clean installation of ROM
1. Format system, data, cache.
2. Flash the ROM
3. Reboot
Hope it will work.

I always wipe system before flashing a new rom. Just remember that system is your OS and if you wipe it without subsequently flashing a rom, there will be nothing to boot into.

You mean 4.4.2? Install the latest philz touch recovery or Twrp 2.6.3.1 and higher wipe all partitions including internal , leave your external (SD card ) alone then install zip .if you are using philz touch recovery it will ask you to update binary after you choose to install zip like this "(x)update binary" uncheck that so (x) becomes ( ) and go ahead with install [no such update binary request is there when flashing via Twrp]. Also sometimes the screen is stuck on Samsung note 2 but people have successfully flashed it on the 2nd or 3rd attempt and it's a beta ROM so expect some bugs and you'll find most of your answers in the DN3 thread

after installing you can try wiping dalvik cache also

Installation was giving problems to me also.
I Just Installed TWRP 2.6.3.2 , wiped and installed the rom.
It started working now.
Link for TWRP
http://www.4shared.com/file/qCkdOhL1ba/openrecovery-twrp-2632-t03gimg.html
1. Download Rom and place it on External SD card
2. Install latest latest TWRP 2.6.3.2 using ODIN
3. Boot into TWRP and go to Wipe -> Advanced Wipe (wipe everything except extr_sdcard, do it twice)
4. Flash the Rom
5. Reboot System
6. Let it settle for 10 mins and then Enjoy

Yes, just flash as normal no wipe.
Hi everyone.
Whenever I try to flash any rom, using any method (CWM, odin), my ACE II boots the old rom!!
.
I've tried all formatting methods/wipe data/factory reset/deleting partitions using parted....
STILL booting the old rom including all old files!!
.
Do you remember when you activate "Deep Freeze" on your PC? whatever you do, whatever you add or delete.... when you reboot everything is restored as it was before.
.
Don't know what to do...
Any one faced or heared about something like that ever?!
Please help.........

NO ONE COULD HELP????!!!!
Pleeeeeeeeeeease
II If not yet tried - Try this (flash 3Parted FW)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53921158&postcount=8
This bring you back to GB... Flash then JB again.... An CM (if you like)
Before this go to CWM Recovery - mounts and storage - format SYSTEM CACHE DATA
UNMOUNT the partitions before this (must listed as "mount /system" etc)
Then go DIRECTLY in Download Mode by pressing the 3 keys (do not try to reboot) and flash above mention FW...
BUT: I have no big hope because u already tried to format with parted...
