[Q] unresponsive screen - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok i have a rooted kindle fire. havnt had any issue till this moring. the sreen is unresponsive. i cant unlock it. when i push and hold the power button i get the shut down sreen but still cant turn it off. screen is still unresponsive. tried to re root but computer will not reconize it. anybody got any ideas? thanks.

Hold it down for a long time try 3 mins then try to power it back on. Rerooting will do no good best to enter recovery do a full wipe and flash a new rom. You can try to use KFU to set the bootmode for recovery if it hangs < waiting for device > hold the power button down while connected till it is off then simply power it back on. When running custom roms such as ics and jelly bean the driver needs to be augmented to function with adb. Replace this file in kfu and rerun the driver install http://db.tt/vXXeuL10 then plug your kindle in if it then recognizes the kindle state here whether it comes up android adb interface or android composite adb interface.

yeah i tried holding the power botton that long didnt work. i did eventually get the computer to reconize it again. ran kfu and rerooted it. it did the trick. going to wipe the whole thing and start from scrach. thanks for the help.

[Q] Kindle Fire stuck in reboot loop... help?

I recently rooted my kindle fire using KFU .9, at which point the kindle rebooted, but it was stuck on the yellow-fire-triangle screen. Via the KFU, I changed the boot mode to fast reboot, and now the kindle just reboots over and over whenever it's attached to the computer. This happens so fast, the computer cannot recognize it so I cannot seem to fix the problem.
Please help!
Try booting into TWRP... the computer should recognize it then.. if the computer does not then uninstall your device drivers in computer management and reinstall them... KFU should recognise your fire then... tell your kindle to reboot in normal mode using KFU.. this worked for me. Hope it helps you.

The kindle isn't connected to the computer long enough for it to be recognized, so I can't update the drivers. Also, I can't boot into TWRP because the device is constantly turning on and shutting off.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
*NOTE*
while the kindle is constantly restarting, I am sometimes able to get the power button to turn from green to orange, as if it were going to boot to TWRP, but then the cycle continues. I don't know if this is helpful.
Connect your kindle and use install_drivers.bat to make sure your drivers are updated. You won't be able to see your kindle in device manager most likely when it's stuck in fastboot. Next, Start up KFU and go to bootmode and select normal. When KFU is waiting for your device perform a hard reset (hold power for 30 seconds). This should kick your kindle into normal bootmode. This method worked for me when I was stuck in a fastboot loop trying to install TWRP the first time so hopefully it helps you

When I try to install the drivers, the install wizard says I have the most up-to-date drivers, but windows said the drivers couldn't be installed because the device was unplugged.
I tried to use KFU anyway and hold the power button for 30 seconds, but the device kept booting in the mean time and KFU was unable to find the device.

When you install the driver, pick the driver located in the KFU folder under drivers>kindle
when it is booting every 3-5 sec then it is most likely that the battery is down
charge with the wall charger for some hours

I have had the kindle plugged into the wall for a few hours, but when it's connected to the wall charger, it continues to constantly reboot. I suppose I can let it charge for a few hours and see if that helps
the kf tries to power on if you plug it in. would plug to the wall charger and press pwr for ~20 sec till it turns off to allow the kf to charge
Thanks for your help, guys. All is well now
glad to help ...

[Q] Is the yellow triangle a stock screen?

Is the yellow triangle ('press power for recovery options') a stock KF screen, or is the something that's been added by the KFU? Amazon said they would send a replacement, but I'm wondering if I'll have issues if they see it's been rooted...
Update 6.3.1 has left me on this screen, and as of yet I have not been able to get around it. The computer will only recognize it for about 5 seconds when it is plugged in, but then the LED on the KF goes Orange and it disconnects.
I'm looking at getting the factory cable.
Unfortunantly when I ran the KFU I did not install any other recovery options other than rooting the device. (Crossing over from the jailbreaking on the iPhones, you could get the device is recovery without any big deal and I assumed it was the same with the KF...oops)
Turn your Kindle off.
Turn your Kindle on.
As soon as you see the yellow triangle, hold the power button until it turns orange. This will boot your device into recovery.
While in recovery, look for an option to mount your sdcard.
When it is mounted, it will show up on your computer as an external drive.
From your computer, transfer the "Flash.zip" from this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25598837 ...to your sdcard.
Then use recovery to flash "Flash.zip" and reboot.
When it reboots, hold the power button until it turns orange again and use the selections at the bottom to change your bootmode. To scroll through the selections hold the power button for a second and release. When you have the right option selected, leave it alone for a few moments and it will select automatically. You may need to reboot.

This is not the stock boot loader screen, it is an older version of FireFireFire.

I've done this...
But there's no response from the KF, the screen doesn't change. The LED does go Orange, but it would anyway - even without pressing the button.
The computer is unable to recognize it at this point.
As of now it seems only to turn on whenever the USB cable is plugged in, I'm guessing the battery is dead.
Any more suggestions? I'm leary of sending it back in with modded software, I imagine they're smart enough to check that...
Ah, so you don't even have recovery installed. I guess I should have seen that in the OP...I'm such a noob <hangs head in shame>
OK the first thing you need to do is educate yourself a little bit about the Kindle Fire, the different bootmodes, and the difference between adb and fastboot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23747567
Then you need make sure your drivers are in good working order:

When you have a good foundation to work from, we'll get recovery installed and continue to fix any other problems you need help with.

I bricked my KF GOOOOD this time

I have had a Kindle Fire since they day they came out. I immediately disliked the stock Rom so I ran the kindle fire utility and installed Fire Fire Fire and TWRP, rooted it, and installed CM7 Rom which has been working great. Transferred files and programs between my PC and Kindle with no issue for months. Now with all the ICS roms available and working I decided to try and upgrade to one of those and thats when everything went wrong. Its in a bootloop and the triangle appears, fades, lights up again and immediately boots to TWRP. I have flashed the entire kindle using TWRP trying to get everything off of it. Upon plugging it into my PC BRIEFLY when the triangle logo pops up I get a "USB device not recognized" on my PC. I have tried using KFUtility to reinstall drivers, tried uninstalling n reinstalling drivers but the same thing happens. I cannot use TWRP to mount at all, nothing happens. Kindle Fire UTility keeps saying adb offline, CMD adb devices also results in 0 devices found. I have tried putting it on normal boot using both ADB and KFUtility and it says "wait for device" and nothing ever happens. Any idea? Not even sure if I have a rom installed on my kindle anymore but my PC wontread it so I cannot push another image to it. Got a plane trip on Saturday and would love to have this working to kill the bordom lol. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
It sounds like your bootmode is set to recovery. An easy way to fix this is download FFF1.4 to your computer and use the mount function in recovery to place it on your sdcard.
Flash it in recovery as you would a rom except don't wipe anything. When you reboot, hold the power button like you're trying to enter recovery and you'll be given the option to reset the bootmode.
Thank you so much for your advice but there in lies the problem. Inside the recovery console i choose to mount it and nothing happens. My PC will not let me access the kindle in anyway at all, either mounting the SD Card or via ADB/KFUtility.

Generally, the only thing that would prevent adb/kfu from communicating with the device is the drivers. Make sure they're installed properly. You may have to uninstall them (delete if applicable) and reinstall them.
Follow the instructions in this guide to install and verify your drivers.

K heres the latest (we r making progress!)
I got my device to be detected by my PC and used KFutility to change it to normal boot. Now instead of booting into recovery everytime it boots normally.... to a black screen (guessing my rom is shot or I deleted it while playing with it). The issue is the ONLY time my PC recognizes my kindle is for a .5 second period when i first turn my KF on and the yellow triangle appears. I can use this window to change it to normal bootmode, reinstall TeamWin, stuff like that, but i cannot mount it so I can transfer or adb so I can push. You can watch device manager and it'll pop up ADB android phone or whatever it should but poof, a second later gone.

Get your device drivers working so you can use adb. Follow the instructions in the post below...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26144447
That is excellent advice and I wish it would work but I cannot pull up ADB once in TeamWin. Keeps saying no devices. As i said my PC detects it and ADB will detect it for .5 seconds on the orange triangle. Once the orange triangle disappears and it either boots to blackness or boots to TeamWin ADB stops recognizing my device. But I will play around with your suggestions once I get off work and let you know what i find out. Thanks again for everyones support.
Frozen screen during rooting
Hi,
I am new to the forum. I have a kF screen stuck (where it says 'kindle fire') while I was trying to root it. I tried hard reset, charging for half hour, calling AMAZON...nothing works. The screen goes off if I hold it for 20 seconds but when I put it back on same thing. I was trying to root it with 'fastboot (?). Is there anything at all I can do? Thanks.

[Q] Kindle fiire rooting fail

SO recently i tried to root my kindle using one of the guides unfortunately i somehow messed up during it or something, but the problem i have now is whenever i turn my kindle on it has the yellow triangle with a fire logo in it and at the bottom it says "press power button for recovery". Simple enough only the second problem is i do not have TWRP or anything like that so pressing the power button literally does nothing. Unfortunately as well when i plug it into the USB it will identify that something is connected but it won't install it to the pc because it cant find some hardware or something. So i cant get it to start up or connect it to the pc and am desperately looking for a solution. Thanks to anyone who can help.
First off. Do you have a first gen kindle fire?
6.3.x or 10.x.x?
If you have a first gen,
Download this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192818
Choose bootmode menu, and choose fastboot.
Hold down the power button for 10-20 seconds till it turns off.
Connect your kindle to your computer.
Does KFU find the device? If so, good. You will be taken to the main screen at that point I think.
Choose to install recovery (TWRP).
That should be it. Post here if there's any problems.

Attached is a picture of what my kindle screen looks like. I tried resetting it, plugging it into the computer, etc. but this screen never changes. Also on my pc it doesn't recognize it as a kindle, it recognizes it as an unknown device. So I can't put any files onto my kindle at the moment because my PC keeps telling my me driver is not working or something. I attached files showing what my pc says as well. Also I apologize for the bad quality of the pictures i don't own a very nice camera at all so I apologize in advanced for that. The last 3 are readable the 1st one is basically just a yellow triangle with a fire symbol in the middle and it says "press power button for recovery" but nothing happens when i press the power button, and the 2 photo is a little bit blurry but all it says is:
Unknown Device
Device Type: Universal Serial Bus controllers
Manufacturers: (Standard USB Host Controller)
Location: Port_#0009.Hub_#0002
Device Status:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
The "press power button for recovery" can be confusing if you don't know what's going on. That version of FireFireFire sits in fastboot mode for...I think...8 seconds before it will recognize the power button. You can repeatedly press the power button until the LED turns orange to see if that gets you into recovery. If not, you're probably looking at something like usbboot to replace your bootloader. You need to replace your bootloader anyway, but hopefully you'll be able to flash a new one in recovery instead.

Repeatedly pressed the power button for about 30 seconds with the same result, green light still, and no screen change. So it looks like its this usbboot, how would i go about doing this in order to replace my bootloader?

Since you will need Linux anyway, you might as well download and install SoupKit. It comes with Firekit and will probably make your life easier in the long run.
What guide did you use exactly? I can see if we can update that guide to use the latest FFF because that is a very old alpha version that has had many issues with the yellow triangle in the past. I'm surprised its still floating around here.

Stuck at boot logo
Hey all,
I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post but I didn't want to make a new topic and this seems to be in the area of what is wrong with my kindle... I tried the new KFU v0.9.9 on my first gen KF running 6.3.2. I have rooted it before (not on 6.3.2), but unrooted and restored to factory settings because I thought I was going to sell it. However, the plans fell through and I am keeping it so I wanted to re-root and all that jazz....
My question is, how do I get it boot past the boot logo? I used the KFU, but firstly when it prompts it says:
'findstr' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
So none of the commands pop up, however they are still there... For example, i followed:
"Choose bootmode menu, and choose fastboot.
Hold down the power button for 10-20 seconds till it turns off.
Connect your kindle to your computer."
And I can get to fastboot, but it says there is no device connected to my computer. If you need more details on the problem I'll be glad to give them to you. Hopefully someone checks this thread again
Thanks
What version of Windows do you have that doesn't have 'findstr'?
What do you see in your device manager while the device is plugged in?

Bricked kindle fire 8.9

Ok so really need some help as I’m on the verge of giving up!! I don’t know anything about what you guys are doing!! My kindle fire 8.9 just decided to go ‘red screen’ on me when I turned it on one day. I hadn’t done anything to it to try to mod it or anything- it just turned on and went straight to the red screen and that’s all it’s done since. I’ve tried disconnecting the battery for a while and then reconnecting - no joy. I’ve followed tutorials here to try to reset it via fastboot but have got stuck where it says ‘waiting for device’ - I plug it in and turn it on but it doesn’t find it and nothing happens. I don’t know how to get it into fast boot mode any other way and don’t have any other ideas for things to try so any help would be really great or I’m just going to have to chuck it out?.
I got it into fastboot earlier without the special fastboot cable. I had lubutu running on a memory stick. I installed the adb and fastboot stuff. The first time it wouldn't say "waiting on device" or whatever but the second time before installing the adb and fastboot stuff I changed the settings so it was normal releases and unsupported sources or whatever so it'd draw from a bigger pool. Then the waiting on device part showed up. I plugged a normal cable in and was turning it on and off and all that. But what made it go into fastboot mode was having it plugged in then holding power button to turn it off then I pressed and held down the power button and I think it's the volume down button (the one closest to power) then it loaded into fastboot ^_^. I'm gonna try to actually fix it now.
