Ever since I got my JB update this is how my One X shows up on the computer for me as well. I just ignore the HTC Sync Manager CD Drive and use the HTC One X under Portable Devices to access the internal storage like normal. It works fine for me and I'm pretty sure that's the normal way the phone displays on the computer now.

Yep, USB Mass Storage has been dropped in favour if MTP.

still nothing
i need it to work with outlook contacts and calendar
soembdy please help!!!
Desire uses 2.0.28 it is on root of SD card
Are you using 64 bit or 32 bit Windows 7?
I had similar issues in 64, and needed to manually place the HTC drivers in the Program Folder.
You can download the HTC x64 Drivers from here:
http ://www.multiupload.com/86L5JXTK0S
Just place them in the HTC directory (i.e. "C:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\" or where ever you choose to install HTC Sync. And then just reinstall the version that is located on the SD Card that came with the Desire.
Hope that helps, it worked for me.
had no issues with my W7 x64 Ultimate laptop and drivers - installed first time using HTCSync on the SD card

Well You probably did not noticed that on the root of SD card is a new version of HTC sync 2.0.28.
So as I wrote, he only need to intall this new version 2.0.28 from SD card. Old version 2.0.25 comes with Legend and is not working with Desire.
in each section of this forum..i find the same question, whoever gets a new phone..come here ask HTC SYNC & WIN7
kinda funny

No I did notice that and that what I used and if you read point out. I was simply giving a piece of advice that worked for me in with the problem that I had.
It works fine on win7 x64, never tried on 32 but i assume its the same.
I posted a download link if you were like me and a few others whom deleted it by mistake. I was lucky i have two HTC Desires so fished the software of the other SD:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=661397
When you install the software it asks to restart i think, you dont realyl need to do this. When you connect your phone it will detect device etc, install drivers. Once done disconnect the phone from computer for a second o two and then reconnect it, this time the HTC sync should appear on your phone. IF you do not select htc sync it will not appear as connected in the htc sync software.
Thanks for the driver link, i didn't find them on the htc site, well i thought win7 would download them automatically just like any other device i've connected to it.
w/e now i can use my outlook contacts and calendar thanks again.
EDIT:
Don't know with older versions but with latest HTC Sync 2.0.28 that's in your phone SD you don't need those drivers.
On my Windows 7 64bit when i plugged the phone a driver installation error pop'd, so i removed the sd card, inserted it in a card reader, copy'd the app on my pc and installed the htc app manually. After the installation i tried again but windows gave me the same driver error, so i just started from scratch.
Unistalled htc sync, reboot, reinstalled it, reboot, plugged in the phone in htc sync and it worked
So probably you've to first install HTC Sync then plug the phone in HTC Sync mode to get it installed correctly.
EDIT 2:
Ok nothing again...
After the first sync i unplugged the phone, now if i try to replug it i get the same driver error and the device can't be recognized. Meh i really don't know what to do.
EDIT 3:
This just sounds retarded, i plugged the htc cable directly on the back of my pc w/o using an extension cable and now it works flawlessly. Gonna play around with it more to see if that's really the problem.
hTC Sync PC Connection Issues
hTC Sync PC Connection Issues
If your hTC device (mines the new hTC Desire “Bravo”)
has connection issues with your PC – You will receive an
error message on you hTC device saying PC not found etc.
Simply check to see if you have your hTC device plugged
into a USB2 port and not the older USB1.1 port … Vista+
should have atleast 1 / 2 USB2 ports. I have 8 ports on the
rear of my PC and 2 on the front. I had connection issues,
but discovered the 2 ports on the front are USB1.1 and
norrowed down the USB2 port which was on the rear of my
PC! Plug your hTC device cable into the USB2 port (may
need trial & error to find the port, but you can check to see
if you have a USB2 port, by looking in your
DEVICE MANAGER on your PC. Open the hTC Sync
programme and then plug the cable into your phone. Select
hTC Sync on your device to do a Sync or select Disk Drive
on your device to transfer music, pics, etc. Any problems

Press F8 when you start windows
Select the option that alows 3rd party drivers
and then let it boot into windows...
I think once you are in there is an option to allow 3rd party drivers.
Evan if teh drivers are from microsoft win 7 will do the same thing... odd but It's theer for a reason !
Sorry I hope this is not off topic and I don't want to hijack the thread but the people using laptops can they check if the laptop will go into hibernation mode with HTC sync installed. My XP netbook wont hibernate and I have to uninstall it after every time I use it, just want to check if it is a driver conflict with my netbook or a generic problem with HTC Sync.
Hey, glad I found this thread. I have been having trouble with HTC Sync from the outset. I have an unmodified Evo with 2.2 and an Asus netbook with Windows7 Starter. I was wondering if it might be the W7 Starter being limited in some way, but it sounds like the problem is across the board. I have managed to sync a couple of times but the phone and computer don't seem to recognize each other reliably. Right now the only thing the phone will do is accept a charge from the computer. Occasionally the computer will recognize the phone enough to install the driver but that's it. Anybody have any new news on this one?

[Q] Why is HTC Incredible only showing up as Mass Storage

I have tried several different guides to get my HTC Incredible to show up as an Android Device but all I ever get is Mass Storage.
I have edited the .inf driver file and went through several reboots.
I want to use adb while the device is booted up, I just got an invite to the App Inventor.
The guide they posted there was:
flexjunk com/2010/05/01/installing-htc-incredible-android-sd-drivers/
My phone is:
rooted: unrevoked3 (Fantastic job guys!)
s-off: unrevoked forever (WOW)
These entries are added in Device Manager when I connect my phone:
(2) HTC Android Phone USB Device (Disk Drives)
(1) HTC Android Phone USB Device (DVD/CD-ROM drives)
(2) Generic volume (Storage volumes)
(1) USB Mass Storage Device (Universal Serial Bus controllers)
I know that the answer has to be simple, but I am at a dead end. Can anyone help?
Did you turn USB Debugging on in the Applications menu?
Yes.
I can use my G1 with App Inventor. I don't know if the drivers are related or not.
I'm having the same issues!!
If I remember correctly you need to install HTC sync on your CP. Or maybe use USB Deview.
Sent from my Incredible.
I have no idea what I did but it is working now. I made no other changes to my PC. I had installed HTC Sync last week and got no changes. I spend the weekend with my phone plugged up to my laptop, running a fresh install of Fedora, and I go back to the PC today and get it listed in ADB Devices. I really wish this post could be more informative to people who are experiencing the same problem but I can not duplicate the error.

[Q] Phone doesn't show

Just bought a new Htc DHD vodafone brandend the netherlands (no custom rom and 2.50.161.2 software number and 2.3.3 android) and I'm experiencing a problem with my usb:
When I hook up my phone to my laptop(win 7 bit32), other laptop(win 7 bit 32) and desktop (win 7 bit 64) nothing shows on "My Computer", my phone just charges and thats it, the menu screen of which type of connection I want shows up and when I choose USB disk drive or HTC Sync nothing happens .
I tried with debug mode and without, I used 2 different formated sd cards, I used different usb ports, I tried a hard reset and different factory reset.
Could it be the drivers as when I go to my devices I come across a warning sing next to the htc and I also notice a "My Htc" not installed.
I downloaded htc sync and installed yet my phone doesn't show up, I installed with and without internet as I read that windows could install wrong drivers :s
What could this be ?
Are you using the correct data cable.
i can undestand htc sync not working cuz its crap but it should detectdisk drive unless you skipped the windows install.
go to control panel > add/remove hardware and uninstall anything related to htc. Plug phone in. Select disk drive. Hope windows detects it. Good luck
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I deleted all drivers related to the htc and when I rebooted and connected my phone to my laptop, my laptop made a sound, stard searching for a driver for "my htc" using windows update and found nothing and described my htc as unknown device.
Yes..windows wont install the drives needed for sync but will be able to istall it as a disk drive.. htc sync is a pain to get working i gave up.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I tried installing the drivers by connecting with disk drive
Somebody know where I can find the usb drivers for the htc dhd, so i can install them manually ?

You can do everything from recovery
We might want to FTP or Airdroid
Disk mode has been replaced by MTP mode... you can still transfer files to your phone without going into recovery.
Windows handles it automatically (XP needs some updates)
Mac needs Android File Transfer software to make it work.
Hi Guys,
Even I'm facing the same issue. It says MTP USB driver failed.
I'm not able to connect to Internet-pass through.
Any suggestions ?
Try this (its a driver issue)
Okay, download the latest sync manager, i.e. 1.0.66 i think.
Remove older drivers, connect your phone, go to device manager, remove any thing that looks like my htc or android phone.
restart system -> connect phone-> install the latest drivers -> enable debugging on phone -> go to device manager, there would be an unknown device over there (android phone)-> right click 'update driver'
then select 'browse my computer for driver software' ,
then click 'let me pick ........'
then 'show all devices', .
then 'have disk.
browse to 'c:\program files\htc\htc driver\driver files\win_7...' or 'c:\program files (x86)\htc\htc driver\driver files\win_7...'
(for Mass Storage Device)
select then choose 'htc, corporation' and the 'my htc'
(for MTP)
->'htc corporation' (without the comma, usually at the top of list), choose the MTP driver from list
(for Internet)
-> just select the rndis driver
Let me know if it works.
I'm also seeing the USB debugging message on my phone but my notebook running Windows 7 able to detect it. I'm able to browse and copy files just like a mass storage. :cyclops:
I also have the same issue with my HTC One X, every time i try to use it as a Removable Disc it doesn't appear on my mac.
as i was reading i found out that i need a mac Android File Transfer software ?
Where can i get this software?
thank you for any information about this issue.

A lot of Problems after JB update
Hi. I recently updated my one x to jb and honestly it hasnt been a gud experience:
1. Slower than before
2. Boluetooth audio streaming over any device is either jittery or does not connect at all
3. Front came does weird blackish color to eyes that seems as if you r a ghost
Is htc gona be releasing any sort of a patch or update for these issues? or is this the end of the line now?
Does anybody else feel MTP is much much slower than USB mass storage, especially when transferring a long list of small files (example 1000 photos)??? Speed seems decent when transferring one big file (example movie)

Gday mate,
I have the same issue, and this option does not work. The issue is not a driver issue.... even if the htc driver isnt installed on your pc, the pc will still pick your phone up as unknown (as you stated), however the issue is that the pc doesnt pick up the handset at all..... Been doing abit of research and it appears htc are away of this issue, something to do with a collaboration with Google, and disabling the usb hard drive option on the handsets... (its happened to 3 of my friends all who have htc one xl handsets)....

Mine is a lot faster, don't really use bluetooth, but have experienced the front camera problem and other bugs, such as home and back button doesn't respond after coming from lockscreen, and suddenly it goes from being on vibrate to normal.
My phone is full stock, but now i think i may want to root it and flash a custom, non-sense ROM.
MTP- problem
hello
I have the same problem. I upgraded my HTC to 4.1.1 via OTA. Since them I have no chance to transfer data between win XP-computer and the HTC. (sorry win xp is the employer PC). (myphoneexplorer helped me later)
the next problem is, it is not possible when I want to storge data bigger than 4 GB!
I had a harshley contact with the HTC service - oh my god, HTC switched the storage format from NTSC to FAT32 for Linux.
it is complete ****ung **** what they did.
welcome to apple
very dissapointed

[Q] Mounting One X as disk-drive

Hi
I recently got the office Jelly Bean update for my One X, but I have one unsolved question.
When I plug my One X into my PC I can't get the internal storage to show up, neither get a menu on the phone to select which mode I want to use. I have managed to get it working in Ubuntu by enabling USB-debugging under developer tools, but neither my Windows 7 laptop or my Mac will do this. They just mount a CD-drive and the only thing I can do is to install HTC Sync Manager. This is frustating as I use a Windows Server to store photos and videos from my phone. The server operatingsystem wont install Sync Manager, and honestly I don't want to install some software I don't need.
How do I get the disk-drive functionallity back in Jelly Bean?
I don't think you can, I use WiFi file transfer pro to exchange stuff on my phone/pc

I understand what you mean by not wanting to install software not needed. Maybe this will be the solution to your problem. I the "[ROOT] One Click HTC One X (AT&T/Rogers/Others) (Win/Mac/Linux)" here on XDA I found a link to the driver only. Maybe this can help you... :fingers-crossed:
I tried using the drivers from the link, but unfortunately they didn't work.
If your phone is rooted you can do it via CWM.

Airdroid uses wireless connection. My computers don't have wireless access.
The JB update enables MTP and disables USB Mass Storage. It should show up in My Computer under 'Media Devices' or something like that. You can view all the contents of the internal memory there. This is the way it is on Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4 and other devices.
MTP compatibility is flaky on Linux and OSX but is built into Windows 7 and works fine. The One X with JB should behave just as described. If its not showing in My Computer at all then something is messed up. Maybe a factory restore will fix it.

You're absolutely right. I got he JB update yesterday and i had the same issue. As it turns out, there are 2 links in Windows 7 in "Computer". One is to install the software but the second one talks about portable devices. Go in there and you will find an option for Internal Storage. It looks like an imitation of Apple iPod where you access the drive that way... Anyway, thanks for the solution.
or you can boot into recovery & mount usb storage from there thats how i do it with TWRP recovery
I eventually got my MTP drivers to force-install correctly by changing the USB network mode to Internet Pass-through. This was the only way that Windows would forcefully look for drivers and HTC Sync manager finally recognised it after this.
