Hello all.
Here's CWM recovery, built from the latest version included in the ICS sources. It has support for both internal and external sd card, with the internal being the default. As such, the internal has mount point /sdcard, and the external has /external_sd. Nothing you should normally need to know, unless you want to mount them manually in adb shell.
I provide it in two packages, dependent on how you want to flash it. One for flashing manually in adb shell, and one for flashing with Odin.
recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.5-ancora.zip -> for flashing in adb shell
Don't flash the zip file, but extract and flash the img file.
recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.5-ancora.tar.md5 -> for flashing with Odin
Select the ops file, and enable one package in options, then load the md5 file with the One Package button
In addition, you need Ancora.ops it you're gonna flash it with Odin.
How to navigate in menus:
Volume buttons = go up and down
Home button = select
Power button = go back
I'm too busy right now to write further extensive instructions, so if anyone else would want to do it, that would be great. Otherwise refer to the RZRecovery thread on how to flash in adb shell.
Thanks arco, i can smell ics for sgw already..

Hi arco68....most of us have already flashed RZR-2.1.4-ancora-rec.img testing the current ROMS here.
Once flashed no problems right it will be overwritten......
thanks so much for your works!~
CWM on galaxy W....good stuff bro
Anyone knows if I use via ADB flashing will the original RAZR wiped out ?
Please advise thanks
Thanks arco68 !!!
Does this CWM support backups on external SD ?
I am having trouble doing this with RZRecovery.

I tryed to flash it using the adb shell but now the phone start only in download mode.
I'm going to re-flash the stock rom KL3, abd I will try with the odin procedure.
How can I do? I have to use, as for the rom, the voice "one package"?

You should flash the stock then get root (not sure if needed, but just in case).
Than you will have to open ODIN v.4.43 and select the Ancora.OPS as OPS-file.
After that is selected you can use the OnePackage button to select the downloaded MD5-file with CWM.
If you need the Ancora.OPS, I could upload it.

Hi Arco,
I did try it to, i flashed from ADB shell, when i reboot in to recovery , i get a menu and i can select things with the volume buttons, but when i activate a item then i see a hat with an arrow and then it is stucked.
I can go back to the menu, but cant activate what i choose.
Have to pull out the battery to reboot.
Had RzRecovery installed before this one.
Hope you have enough info to resolve this
Edit:
The activate button (left down on the phone) does respond on active and go back, while the go back button (right down on the phone) does not work at all.
I tried flashing through adb shell and it didn't work, but it did work with Odin.
I just put the package arco posted in the PDA slot (gave me an error but it worked anyway) and it flashed in 2 seconds. Recovery works fine, I just did a backup.
Edit:Nevermind, I'm an idiot. I was trying to flash the .zip file It obviously didn't work. It does with the .img

guyz i have done the RZRecovery method and everything is ok, but i prefer the CMR. I just do the CMR with Odin (which i prefer than manual) and it justs overwrites RZR?

Did you have RZRecovery installed first? I flashed CWM with Odin over the stock Samsung Recovery and everything works fine.
so people with RZR flashed must restore stock rom and then flash CWM?

That's what I'm trying to understand
Hi all,
I've been trying to root my phone for a couple of days now to no success. I used the method found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317394
However whenever I go to recovery and pick the option "apply update to sdcard" (to get the update.zip) it will just show me the android in a box picture and nothing else. Does anyone know what's the cause of this problem?
My phone:
Build no: GINGERBREAD.DXLA2
Android version: 2.3.6
Baseband version: I8150DXKL1
Thank you very much.
did u press the menu button after the android and box appears?
when that image appears, press the menu button

Yes I did, and it gives me the list of options in recovery mode- apply update, factory reset, wipe data etc etc. But when I picked the apply update to sdcard to get the update.zip, it will just show a blank screen with the android in a box again.

Have you rooted using this CWM ?
In case you don't want to upgrade to CWM(no root required, only ODIN flashing/ADB shell), you can try flashing the stock recovery again.

I did try CWM but it gave me the same problem too, whenever I picked the option "apply update to sdcard" it will show me the CWM picture with blank screen. So I flashed back to stock ROM. Is it a hardware issue?

The only thing solution which I would have, would be(I have posted this before, so this might sound sometimes strange ^^):
If you use a OnePackage-file to upgrade the firmware, all data will stay. If you use the asian firmwares with many files, to flash the firmware, the data will be vanished after the successful upgrade.
If you want to flash a firmware with a OnePackage file and want all data to be deleted, than you have to do as followed:
1. Backup everything manually what you can!
2. Flash via ODIN ClockWorkMod Recovery on your device(english). Scroll down to other and select ClockWorkMod.
3. Once ClockWorkMod is flashed, go to the recovery:
a) backup and restore -> backup to external sdcard
b) backup and restore -> restore from external sdcard
This is to make sure the files aren't corrupted, if this is successful you can be sure everything is backupped. If you get a MD5 mismatch something went wrong. Try again!
c) wipe data/factory reset -> confirm
d) wipe cache partition -> confirm
e) mounts and storage -> format system -> confirm
f) mounts and storage -> format cache -> confirm
g) mounts and storage -> format data -> confirm
4. You restart your phone in Download Mode and flash a firmware using this instruction, which is provided in the thread under Firmwares.
5. Now root your phone via stock recovery.
6. Now you will have to flash again the ClockWorkMod recovery to restore your data.
Than open ClockWorkMod Recovery and:
backup and restore-> advanced restore from external sdcard -> select the backup -> Restore data -> confirm.
Now if you want the stock recovery back(needed for OTA updates) instood of ClockWorkMod, than go to the Others or Sonstiges and select the stock recovery, and flash it on your device.
Oh yeah, the reason why you have to make these complicated steps: Because you were flashing all different kinds of firmwares, you system will be a mess. To make sure your device is not a overwritten old firmware these steps are necessary.
Flashing via ODIN does not delete all old data !!!

PROBLEM SOLVED! Thanks to all who replied and helped!!!! Especially THE-E!!
I installed cwm using ROM manager. Right now, there is no problem with phone's working, and I was also able to backup my stock ROM. The problem is, when I flash a new ROM (using rom manager), it ends up in the same stock ROM with factory reset. I can't also boot into the clockworkmode recovery. What shall I do to replace the current cwm version with a working version?
Go into download mode and reflash ur stock rom with odin. You will also have stock recovery back.
Re-root and flash cwm with your stock recovery.
Thats it.
Youre a lucky guy if your phone still wants to boot after rommanager cwm...
Just to make sure, you can flash roms WITH rommanager, but not FROM rommanager.
The ones in their list arent compatible with our gio.

Since I am a beginner, can you please tell me about getting into download mode and reflash using odin.
I can still boot into my stock recovery. I have downloaded 'cwm 6 for gio' from xda. Can I install this using 'install from sdcard' option in stock recovery? Will it get updated properly or end up in bricking my phone?
(Sorry to ask very basic questions)

Hi, im new here. I here to ask. I want to root my galaxy grand duos (jellybean 4.2.2 not 4.1.2), but after i flashing CWM with odin, it doesn't work. Odin say "0 failed/1 successfully". And i saw the PASS text and my grand is rebooted successfully. After that i try to enter CWM recovery mode by pressing "Vol Up + Power button + Home". It took me to recovery mode but not CWM. It took me to Regular Android Recovery. Please help me with this. I want root my phone.
Did your device really reboot? In my case I had to take out the battery after Odin flashed cwm...
that's exactly my problem too. i can't access cwm recovery mod. it goes to stock recovery instead. i was able to access cwm recovery mod once but i didn't have superuser on my sd card. it was on my pc. so i rebooted my phone and the next time i tried to access cwm recovery mod i was unable to do so. seriously need help!!
Samsung stock flashes stock recovery on boot if a custom recovery is present... usually in cwm a notification appears when you're about to boot from cwm to ROM, asking to fix the stock recovery reflashing...

Thanks for your reply. But still not working. I tried that 5× and still not working. I cant do anything. In normal recovery, i cant install Fix-recovery.zip or anything. I cant root my phone?.
Just follow step by step
1)connect your phone in download mode to pc/lap,make sure you have installed Samsung kies properly as odin will detect the drivers
2)check if the 'ID:COM' tab in odin is turned blue
3)now if its blue everything is fine and now with your phone connected, with 'ID:COM' tab in odin turned blue, select pda in odin and select cwm zip and untick auto reboot in odin.
4)then once u have selected cwm zip in pda and unticked auto-reboot hit START in odin.
5)after it says passed just unplug you phone and enter recovery manually by pressing VOL UP+POWER+HOME,now you should have cwm recovery
6)in cwm select install zip from sd card choose zip and select fix recovery.zip
7)after cwm says installation complete now again select install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card and select update super su zip
8)FINALLY reboot system now and now you have a fully functional cwm recovery and have successfully completed rooting process:thumbup:

Just Sharing
Well i had a same experienced with CWM acting like that on a Galaxy Grand, so i just share what i done to fix it.
The first i got my gadget, i let it update and all, and choose to Root it using CWM method.
at first it was goin well, Then i start going deeper by deleting stuff on system that i think i dont need like KNOX and others (Im acctually a NOOB do help me with what can i safely
deleted). what happen next when i restart my Phone, all stuck on the SAMSUNG Logo. so i redo the usual Flashing of Stock ROM n Reinstall the CWM. but its not working anymore.
The CWM like just gone from the Phone. after fiddling around, i realise when flashing CWM using ODIN3 v3.07. "i cant uncheck Auto-Reboot", i dont know why i cant, it just like
that. Luckly i still got my old backup of ODIN3 v1.85, in which i redo all the flashing and i can even uncheck the Auto-Reboot thing. Oh because the auto-reboot its
tick off in ODIN3 v1.85, after flashing, unplug ur phone and while in its download mode, press the button to straight away go to the recovery, if u reboot it all the
flash will not work. And Pooof all my problem fixed.
Got my Phone system back, CWM and Root working unlike before. Hope this Help people havin a same issue. sorry if i write somethin wrong since im a NOOB.

Hey guys,
I had a rooted Galaxy Wonder with a custom Rom (TouchWiz, forgot which version). I had CWM 5 and wanted to Install CWM 6 so I can be able to get the Kitkat 4.4 Rom, but unfortunately I soft bricked it. I flashed a custom Rom using Odin 4.43 Multi Downloader and it successfully passed, but with a problem, it doesn't get to the Homescreen and it keeps of rebooting itself all over again. I can get to download mode and to stock recovery. So I thought I could maybe root it again and install CWM 6 to flash the rom.
Now the problem is that when I use the stock recovery (by Holding Vol Up+Home+Power) I don't get to install the root update.zip because it reboots itself after I press the menu button (it writes something about updating then reboots).
What can I do? Is there anyway to Root the device via Odin and install CWM 6 so I can flash a custom rom?
Help!
Thanks in advance!

You don't need to root it again since it's already rooted (when you first installed TouchWiz) and it's not the cause i think.

Well, I didn't know if it is rooted or not and I don't know how to flash Cwm 6 and I can't use the phone normally since it is not able to turn on to the Homescreen.
Don't mind the older custom Rom, it was flashed successfully and I used it for more than 3 months.

Don't mind the older custom Rom, it was flashed successfully and I used it for more than 3 months.

Stock, but can't do anything in it. I get the White box icon with the yellow arrow and android and press the menu button but then it says updating Application then some things that I can't read because the go quickly and something about can't access (some directory in system) and Update successful and rebooting.
It keeps doing that.

None. Just a black screen
Edit: I tried flashing now cwm 5 instead of 6 and it worked. I can boot to cwm 5 recovery. But still is there anyway to flash cwm 6?

Just download Phil's Advanced CWM recovery, and flash it (CWM recovery 6.0.4.5) Flash the recovery like any else recovery you flashed.
Download the .op and the cwm recovery (Flashable via odin multi downloader ) Here
And make sure you are running Windows 7, and not Windows 8, I have experienced problems flashing recovery on Windows 8 64bit

this might be the cause, so we need do clean wipe of all the data/ files in your internal storage. We need to make it boot first since it's not just a recovery problem but ROM.
Do you still have the touchwiz rom in your external sd-card? If it's still there, do this steps in cmw:
select "wipe data / factory reset"
go to "mounts & storage" and format /system. This is extremely important!
under the same menu, format /sdcard0 (be careful NOT to format /sdcard1 by mistake)
install touchwiz
reboot

If its touchwi5, you dont have to install gapps, they are already in there
