Just got my N7100, first I installed the ToolKit and try backup the stock rom. Before that I received two OTA update which enabled the multiwindow view I believe. Then I received the third upgrade but I clicked Install later. But once I use the ToolKit to backup my stock Rom, When I try again the update, it saids "phone is being modified" ? So does that mean I can't receive any more update? I didn't root the phone yet though.

I received a popup about an upgrade, I accepted it, and it failed, because I'm rooted. I'm also getting Code 3 errors constantly and can not receive text messages post OTA upgrade attempt. I'm assuming they're related.
Are the files and methods in that post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27987936&postcount=1 compatable with the upgrade my phone just downloaded, but couldn't install? I see the release and build dates are from May. Is Sprint only just now rolling out that code or is the post out of date and I'm SOL?
OTA updates will usually never work if they do, you'll loose root. If you download that factory rom, I think you'll loose root also. When you goto settings, about phone, whats under baseband and build number? How large a file was the OTA update? Code 3 error, call Sprint, SMS issue. Call them BEFORE you flash a new rom, as dialer codes don't always work on aftermarket roms.
this message brought to you by my GalaxyS3 running Phantom's Blazer
All u have to do is re flash the stock Android recovery and accept the updates and then reroot

Regarding the error, call Sprint and continue to do some research. I've had to fix issues like this on my own as CSR only knows so much. As for the new updates, I'm sure the thread you linked to works.
I am rooted and wanted to update, so I downloaded a CWM zip from Zedomax and flashed it. Instructions are on there if you need them. Link below. This may fix the issues with your ROM, it may not. If you have CWM installed you could try doing a factory reset from CWM and then booting up to see if that fixes your issue. Good Luck.

If your rooted download a updated rom and your problems should go away! lust my experience.
Cant one just temporarily un-root using Voodoo OTA root keeper, accept the update then re-root using Voodoo?
I have stock Tmobile Galaxy S3 rooted and I'm trying to run an update. Every time I do that it restarts and then it says failed to update. Reinstalled stock recovery and I'm still unable to install update. In settings->about phone->status it shows device status "Modified". Is there any solution to fix a problem besides loading stock firmware and starting from a scratch.
The answer is in your title. If you are Rooted, the OTA will not take. Get OTA Rootkeeper from the market and preserve Root, take the update and then restore root.

I have just had a message telling me to update to 10g but once its downloaded and ready to flash it tells me my phone is rooted and wont upgrade. I have plugged my phone into LG suite on my pc and it tells me that im running the latest version when its not.
How do i OTA update now my phone is rooted?
Im using towelroot and on on 3UK 10a.:good:
I got the same OTA two days ago 10g, live in Norway and first OTA ever, upgrade went fine without issues despite root (purpledrake)
Says it optimizes power consumption/battery, still to be seen!
Strange, my free G3 /32Gb with Purple Root rejects to update via OTA due to root.
Tried with unroot with the option in SuperSU, no chance to get rid of the message:
"Could not update because you seems to have your device rooted"
Went through the whole process (30 Minutes or even more) with PC Suite and "Repair update errors" to get the new version (which killed the root access)
My wife and I both have a SM-T900, mine is rooted hers is stock. Today she received the OTA update but I get a message that my device is modified and the update is not available. I then connect my device to my PC using Kies 3 and it tells me that a update is available. My question is can I go ahead and update my rooted device, will it screw anything up, will I still have rooted afterwards or will I have to re-root? I still have stock recovery.
yea, you just lose root after the update and you can re-root afterward. you wont lose anything. The update is very minimal so i would say wait until the official Lollipop comes out to update it.
So, for a previous OTA update on 4.4 KitKat that brought some bug fixes, I could simply do a temporary unroot and use OTA survival mode with Superuser/SuperSU.
Now, with this new OTA that updates the OS to Lollipop, none of that seems to work. It always detects that the device is rooted and I don't know how.
So, does anyone have any idea how to apply this Lollipop OTA with a rooted device? How to avoid OTA rooted phone detection?
The last resort is to either use SuperSU to unroot fully or flash a fresh stock ROM... and none of those are satisfying.
Thanks in advance!
It's more than obvious that you need to flash a stock rom for OTA to function properly.

Well, you can play around with RCT, there are guides on resetting that.
Though it's not gonna work, such a big upgrade will break root regardless of ota survival mode or whatever. Or you will get a bootloop...
Do it the right way. Install TWRP, then install rooted LL rom.

Hi! I'm in South Korea and I had the exact same issue on KK.. I always used to flash the stock and then update KK... HOWEVER .....I didn't receive OTA update on Lollipop. I connected my phone to LG PC Suite and the phone updated from there.. and I didn't have to unroot. Have you tried connecting your phone to LG PC Suite and update from there? Good luck
IMO.. Lollipop sucks! I went back to KK after trying Lollipop for a few days.
