How can I flash modem to my phone? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hello,
So I finally flashed my first ROM, Clean Rom 3.5. Then I started reading about a new, today, modem zip file. I guess I need to install it. I have it on my phone in both a zip file and then I extracted it and have it in the phone as a bin files additionally. I am a noob at this stuff. I have mobile odin pro but am not sure of the exact steps to correctly add this bin file. I also have TWRP if I need it.
Any help would be appreciated as I almost bricked my phone this morning and it has been very hectic around here with the sick kids. Thanks

Can u make phone calls? If u can u dont need to flash modem.....only reason to flash modem is if ur getting no connection..but im assuming u do so dont flash

i suggest slowing down and reading to understand what you're doing. not trying to be a smarta$$, just trying to be helpful. if you downloaded the modem file in a zip format (e.g., like the one on Scott's website), then read the post that provided the link to confirm how the modem should be installed. if you downloaded the ATT modem from Scott's website then you should be able to flash it like you would his 3.5 ROM. also, i read another post where you were looking for the latest ATT OTA; if you haven't done so already, then search the development section for Scott's release of a the newest stock, ATT TWRP flashable ROM.
again, just offering some helpful advice... take your time and enjoy your device.

[Q] Trouble-shooting and making a tar.gz

So I'm hoping I'm posting in the appropriate place, and if not please feel free to point me in the right direction. There may be threads that already exist that are what I need, but I find it so hard to find the right thread on this website so after lots of trying I figured I'd just post.
I have Samsung Galaxy S III on WIND Mobile (SGH-T999V) which is said to be identical except in name to the T-Mobile Variant. I tried a few different ways to get root, and since the first which involved CWM weren't working I ended up using Odin to install (flash?) a file called root66.tar from god knows where. I acquired root, but every time I go to flash any Mod (through recovery > apply zip from sd), whether its CM9 or an update pushed to my phone from Wind, i get a status 7 report (I think it's checking for my devices product name to see that it matches whatever the thing is designed for and it doesn't check out?)
I've heard that this is a problem with CWM and all I need to do is flash the latest CWM or a different CWM. I've tried downloading the CWM app, and manually flashing, etc etc, none of it seems to actually change my recovery. Maybe I'm just missing something, but I'm quite sure the recovery simply is not being flashed.
So I found this thread for T-Mo variant that sed to get on root explorer and delete a couple files, which I'll probably try if nobody responds quickly, and hopefully nothing bad will happen, but I wanted to confirm that this will be safe for Wind variant.
Also, I'm freaking out a little inside and want to revert back to my stock ROM, which I found. The thing is it's in zip file and i'm unable to flash .zip. My Windows computer is out of commission and I only have Linux Mint, for which Odin doesn't work, so I have this program called Heimdall. I'm wondering how to package a tar.gz file, what is a tar.gz file? Why not just use a .tar file? or a .gz file? What's the difference. Basically, when I give Heimdall my tar.gz file, whats it gonna do with it?
Any thread-pointing or explanation would be super appreciated! Thank you in advance
edit: In regards to Heimdall, I've looked at some guides, they all site older versions, which appear to be different? the only flashhing I can do is either thru a Heimdall Firmware Package, which I don't know how to make but I'd like to learn, or with a PIT, which I dont have or understand, so any help there would also be good
The files you are supposed to delete are safe to do so. Or you can rename them. Either way will work. Once you do this you can now install recovery from rom or goo manager. Use the app to reboot recovery as well. Very easy.
You don't flash zip files from the computer. You do that in recovery.
There are also other ways to flash. I suggest you read through my firmware thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687
Pay attention to Mobile Odin, it may be your easiest and safest way to flash stock firmware.
You got root66.tar from god knows where???
Don't take this the wrong way but it sounds like you are getting a little careless and could cause more problems than you started with.
Do not flash anything except what you find in this forum. Aside from custom roms you should find everything you need in that thread.
Id also suggest reading the stickied threads in this section as well.
Good luck!

Haha, I know you flash .zip from recovery. I meant I'm unable to flash .zip through recovery, and I can't use Odin to flash any .tar for example, so I thought if I could learn how to use Heimdall, learn how to package a 'Heimdall Firmware Package', that'd be safest.
Anyhow, Thank you, I will be more careful
Edit: checking back in, I went to delete the files
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/install-recovery.sh
They're nowhere to be found. I looked around other places like /root/system, and /mnt/system, still nothing. Any ideas?

Sorry I really font know anything about heimdall. That's why I suggested looking into mobile odin. It will let you flash the firmware from the phone itself. The free version here on xda won't root the fw during flash like the paid version will.
If those files aren't on your phone then don't worry about them. They rewrite stock recovery every boot.
You can try this to get flashing to work in recovery:
Open /system/build.prop and wherever it says d2can, change it to d2tmo. And change T999V to just T999.
Make a copy of the original first and save to your external sdcard.
Now reboot recovery and try to flash again.

[Q] help un rooting sn2

So I was looking at this you tube video here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTcslgE0RK4 and everything seems relatively easy except I go to dl the firmware Here:http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ for my friends note 2 and I don't see a dl for USA or anything close to it. My question is which firmware do I dl? Thanks in advance!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968136
Just to clarify, I can use the aforementioned info in the link to un root the galaxy note II?
I "believe" that its the stock ROM untouched, no root no busy box no custom boot loader.
It will put your Note 2 back to the way it was when you first got it.
* If your uncertain then PM the OP of the post for confirmation.

I followed the instructions in the link you had and when i go into odin and click pda it goes to the folder i downloaded the stock tar(which by the way is a zip folder called samsung updates which i thought was weird) but i dont see a stock tar and on my pc it wont let me extract the zip file....

Inside the the zip file you downloaded should be a file that ends in .tar or .tar.md5 that is used in Odin.
If your not sure what you are doing you may want to brush up on the process first.

[Q] Updating Bell S3 from old leaked rom

Hi there
Back in September, there was a leaked rom of the JB update for Bell. I flashed it successfully and everything went smoothly. But in November, Bell released the official JB update, and I'd like to flash that.
I downloaded Samsung-Updates.com-SGH-I747M_BMC_1_20121121150017_8dyms8nejb.zip from Samsung-Updates.com, but not sure what to do with it. When I put it on the phone, and try and instal it from the recovery screen, it fails.
I've looked at various posts, but can't find the answer to my 2 questions.
- Am I using the proper update from the site mentioned above?
- And how do I go about flashing this onto the phone? (I tried ODIN, but in the PDA, there are options for md5, tar, gz, etc, but not .zip files. I'm just being cautious so that I don't brick my phone.
Thanks in advance...

If you're in Canada chances are you're running the d2can recovery that the phone wants. You need to flash either the d2att recovery Odin from the twrp website or do a quick search for the latest tarp or cwm flashable zip files.
Status 7 can be
a) out of date bootloader
b) out of date recovery
or for Canadians
c) d2can recovery when the Roms are requiring d2att

Ok, thanks, I had an older version of AOKP running, which was released in December or so, and the recovery flashed was "RecoveryGalaxyS3USCanada.tar", I thought the new I747M4LDLK4 file was all i needed to flash this newer rom?
What exactly do i need? Im sorry for so many questions, but this just isnt making sense to me.... I managed to root the phone initially last year, and havn't done anything with it since.
so what is the newer I747M4LDLK4 file that i flashed with Odin for? Is the recovery initially flashed not the right one? if not, which one is needed, and how do i flash it? Id imagine with Odin, if so, do i just flash it the same as the I747M4LDLK4 file (PDA)?
im almost there, i just need a small push in the right direction....
Thanks for all your help so far, and please bare with me. I was an Apple jailbreaker for years, so this stuff is pretty foreign to me still.
---edit---
ok, so i went to twrp and found 2 recovery's, one is "openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-d2att.tar" and one is "openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-d2can.tar", this is where im confused, should i flash the "d2att", or the "d2can"? I mean, im in Canada, on MTS, and flashed the I747M4LDLK4, which was meant for Canada already....
also, can someone please clarify what the I747M4LDLK4 file is? it clearly states that canadian users MUST flash this before flashing the new AOKP, as it wont wont flash without it.... I did that, and still get Error7, now im looking at a new "recovery" as well, as i hope this will fix my error 7 issue. No where in the massive AOKP thread did it say that a different recovery would be needed as well, only the new I747M4LDLK4_aio.tar.md5 file!
so, anyways, if i flash a new recovery, (all i need to know is which one at this point), then i should be able to flash the new (AOKP) rom? i really dont wanna brick this thing, and i wish there wasnt so much confusion with the d2att/d2can files. it would seem completely logical that i would need the d2can file, but who knows, .... there was some sort of error on my phone when i tried to flash the ROM last night and d2att was in it somewhere......
im assuming the I747M4LDLK4_aio.tar.md5 is the bootloader, if so, i have the most recent one flashed now, so i must be getting the error because my recovery is out of date? i think im almost there, all i need is to know which recovery to flash, and i should be golden! the original recovery that is on the phone now from my first AOKP flash is "RecoverygalaxyS3USCanada.tar"

Okay, first thing first. You are reading WAY TOO MUCH into this, You need to slow down and do some reading on what is what for your phone.
There is no confusion about d2can and d2att in here. Here it is as simple as I can explain.
You live in Canada (as do I) our phones are SGH-I747M when you install a custom recovery (Clockworkmod or TWRP) The phone is registered as a Canadian model. The developers on this forum build ROMS for d2att only. They just happen to work on our phones as they are identical. To be able to flash these ROMS on our Canadian phones you have to flash the d2att recovery (Clockworkmod or TWRP)
So my suggestion was to make sure you have flashed the d2att recovery to your phone. You can get the Odin files from the websites or a quick search here would get you the flashable .zip files you would flash in recovery like a ROM (no wiping needed though)
Anything on THIS FORUM ONLY will not brick your device. Anything labelled under anything outside this forum ie. i9300 (International S3) or the other carriers will cause harm to your phone and you'll be a sad panda.
I747M4LDLK4 is your bootloader.
What Is A Bootloader?
In literal terms, bootloader is code that is executed before any Operating System starts to run. The concept of bootloaders is universal to virtually all Operating systems that inculcates operating systems on your PC, laptop, smartphones, and other such devices. Bootloaders basically package the instructions to boot operating system kernel and most of them also have their own debugging or modification environment. As the bootloader kicks off before any piece of software on your device, it makes it extremely processor specific and every motherboard has it’s own bootloader. This is one reason that all Android phones have different Custom ROMS developed due to high variance of processing hardware present on the device.

If you were to flash a US bootloader on your phone you'll be a sad panda.
The newer ROMS are requiring an updated bootloader to work properly. The newest Canadian bootloader MF1 still won't work for most of these ROMS so don't update it that far.
I don't know what else to suggest.
There are 2 main reasons for status 7 (3 if you're on a Canadian carrier which you are)
@KorGuy123
Nice job on the explanations. Many Users (none of which are obviously in this section of course ) would see that he was running a version of Task's ROM from December and jumped all over him. Keep up the good work.
OP ~ KorGuy123's last post points out to what a Status 7 recovery error is. Most of the times Status 7's are mainly due to Recovery issues. Bootloader issues will usually throw a [getprop ro.bootloader] error instead of a Status 7 just for future reference.

SPRINT SPH_L710T stock flashable .tar for odin here!

Hey guys, I know a lot of us has been stuck with paper weights since we messed up flashing our phones thinking the L710 and L710t were the same... sooo, if you lost your imei and baseband unkown and no network and no audio and all these issues and just want to go back to stock.. you've come to the right place.
Remember this is for the sprint sph l710T .... note the T for triband lol
Step 1. Download Odin (search google)
Step 2. .tar file from here (https://mega.co.nz/#!cBBDEBpJ!t5IAcCaMg2w7GDI0zhhmZw0e7jh0Uv0v4gJpsH8gb6o)
put this in to odin in the pda section (note: if the file gives an md5 mismatch of some sort, remove (.md5) from the extension to leave the .tar)
step 3. put your phone in download mode... flash that shiiiiii, be patient and profit!
youre very welcome
BIIIGGGGG THANKS TO THESE GUYS FROM ANDROID FORUMS

yep i can verify i had to get this version cause the charging port on my phone died and according to the site it came from it should work across the board with Sprint, Boost, and Virgin Sph-L710T

Copy that. Out of curiosity, it appears most people need this .tar because they lost their baseband / modems after installing a different rom. Wouldn't it be easier to just flash the L710T NF4 modem firmware? I downloaded it and was going to try it with a few roms that were messing with my baseband. Thoughts?

Will this work for SPH-L710T on Virgin Mobile?
Because this happened to my friend on her's: http://androidforums.com/threads/sph-710t-deleted-google-play-services.887991/
TLR=She deleted Google Play Services and her phone is all kinds of screwed up, factory reset didn't help the phone refresh the system file on its own, so either I need the stock .tar OR someone to upload me their Google Play Services system app (my Stratosphere II's usually works once but I think Google Play tries to update it and it fails and then all the problems start again)

correct it won't get screwed up
the one custom rom that will boot without the need for stock kernel is Conquest Singularity link https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=15185 currently im running the Conquest-Singularity-10-beta9-Full.zip with the Conquest-Singularity-10-b10-update.zip everything seems to work fine except for the rotation but someone over at android forums says Conquest-Singularity-9-Full.zip by it self works including rotation he never mentioned the Conquest-Singularity-9.5-Update.zip so that's basically it to figure out how to install this amazing rom go to the Closed OP here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2774902

Step 1. Download Odin (search google)
Step 2. .tar file from here (link)
put this in to odin in the pda section (note: if the file gives an md5 mismatch of some sort, remove (.md5) from the extension to leave the .tar)

or the AP slot for Odin 3.09+
(you might want to add that to the OP)
THANK YOU, her phone is back to normal and it even kept her model intact!
And now I backed up her phone (Titanium and Nandroid) right this time (to SD not internal)
flash this kernel after you flash Conquest so rotation gets fixed https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5y5w6clj...T747-TW-KK-4.4-ATT-05-13-2014 kernel.zip?dl=0
You sir, have fixed my phone.
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH! It actually worked! After 2 weeks of searching, this thing actually worked! I will definitely recommend this page to anyone who has the same problem.

Do you still have this TAR available? The mega.co.nz link says the file is not available. I am in this exact same predicament where I thought this phone was the same as the L710 and now... I can't get anything I try to work. Always stuck in a boot-loop and I've tried a couple ROMs. I also can't seem to find a Stock ROM anywhere!

I hate bumping an old thread, but in this case, I'm in the same predicament after flashing an OS and not having a way to update the PRL and such. The L710T TAR would be greatly appreciated.
