hello everyone,
Must say without alot of your great posts and walkthroughs i wouldn't of even considered the wicked things my little Gio can do. But i have seem to always have 1 problems when flashing my cell.
I get a "No Service" after 6 hours and can never get it to pick up my Virgin Sim card. I have tried GioPro 1.2 to 1.6, CyanogenMod 7 and 9 and even some Europe firmwares that are supposedly work with it.
So i am assuming that alot of these firmswares/roms don't work with Canada services or phones/areas or is this a common glitch in custom roms. Any help or direction on fixing a issue like this would be more then amazing right about now.
thank you all for your time
Vaughn
after flashing gioprio, it also flashed your baseband. flash a stock rom based for the m model, or flash a baseband only, wich is for the M mode, and you're fine

i have never thought of that, thank you so much. I will report back with my results!
ok this is where you guys start to hate me, tried figure out where to locate a stock baseband and i got a one package for giopro 1.0 (GioPro_v1.6.tar) and my stock firmware for bell/virgin phone (GT-S5660M_BMC_S5660MUGKG3_S5660MUGKG3_S5660MBMCKG3.tar) and finally my GIO_v1.0.ops.
but where about do i locate a stock baseband for the 5660m or am i replacing one files from the stock firmware (GT-S5660M_BMC_S5660MUGKG3_S5660MUGKG3_S5660MBMCKG3.tar) to the GioPro custom (GioPro_v1.6.tar),
i hate to be that guy but i been battling this for a few weeks.

Can you flash a ROM to get European 3G frequencies with a Canadian phone?
I could compile a .tar.md5 of the S5660MUGKG3 Baseband only if you want?
(Flash it through Odin)
Because I have a GT-S5660M model also, so I always keep a backup of Stock Rom in my PC.
SUCESS! for now that is.
I was able to create a AMSS only .tar for flashing using Cygwin Terminal and this command
cd /cygdrive/c/baseband
tar -xvf S5660MUGKG3_S5660MUGKG3_S5660MBMCKG3_home.tar amss
tar -H ustar -c amss > S5660M AMSS.tar
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
then was able to flash just the one package, seems to have left the other parts of the GioPro Rom installed.

Can this method be used to enable European 3G frequencies on the Gio?
Was having the same issues as OP - then realized I incorrectly flashed to 2.3.6 (for the 5660), now I'm trying to get back to stock 5660M 2.3.4 after downloading the S5660MUGKG3_S5660MUGKG3_S5660MBMCKG3 hotfile from droidangel - problem being it isn't a one file md5/tar... the rar contains like 9 files, image files and rfs. I've attached the rar contents.
View attachment 1132111
How do I use these files?? If it's not possible, does anyone have a lead on a one file for the stock 5660M 2.3.4 from Canada?
fyi, unrooted, unlocked
Thanks in advance
sob.... thought I had figured it out, went to samfirmware, got excited - their file was a different size from the droidangel...unfortunately same garbage, same list of image & rfs files instead of a single md5/tar
---------- Post added at 10:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:53 PM ----------
what a jackass I am
I'm only posting this because I have a low level of shame and I noticed a few others while googling who were having the same problem as me..hopefully this helps them
the solution and why i'm a jackass = i was unraring the tar file..hence the contents (image, rfs etc) which were not useable by odin
i was selecting the wrong file... trying to use odin to select one of the files inside the tar... after uncompressing the tar....
brutal... anyway, hopefully this helps others
Help!
Okay guys, Heres my problem... And I need guidelines because im new to all this. I installed the fake ics on my phone and because it started to limit what I could do on my phone I decided to go back to android 2.2. I used odin to go back but I think i selected the wrong Rom for my network and where I live. I live in Canada and I use Virgin mobile as my network. Now that I got Android 2.2 back I never get any network! How do I flash a new Baseband Version? and Where do I get the Baseband version for Bell/Virgin? Also If you could give me the download for The Official Android 2.2 rom and not a custom one.. it would be nice =)
It's going to be 2.3 (Gingerbread) and not 2.2 (Froyo) that you'll want to install.
There have been multiple posts and you should just have used the search function, then asked whatever questions you might have had left.
Get the MUGK3 stock ROM from here or samfirmware, flash it with Odin.
Again, simple, beginner stuff for which there are multiple tutorials. The search function is your friend.

Yeah it's that --> MUGKG3
If you are on EXT4, don't use it with ODIN. It'll bootloop your phone.
It's fine if you're on a RFS filesystem

Lol Im new to android, Whats ext4 and RFS? And What else instead of odin can do it with? also I have the GT-S5660, NOT THE GT-S5660M so does it make huge difference?
Sobey, I got your message, but really this is the sort of discussion best kept in the thread. If you got your phone from VMC, it's a 5660M. In fact, a GT-S5660 would not work with Virgin at all.
Peteragent5: He could flash the whole stock MUGKG3 ROM with Odin and reformat /cache and /data with the stock recovery.

But in About Phone it says GT-S5660 but ill trust your word. So I should download the Mugkg3 rom and use odin to get it into my phone? and do empty cache and data? Okay ill try this now and let you know if it works. I need your help with one more thing, Last time i used odin I followed a tutorial for where to put each file in which odin slot such as BOOT, PHONE, PDA, etc etc. Can you tell me which file needs to go in which slot? Or is it one package and I just click open package? Sorry man for asking to many questions but itll really help. Also I cant find the ops file!

You could make the "About Phone" model string say anything by editing the proper file. As I've said before: if your Gio worked with Virgin Mobile Canada at all, it a 5660M. The Europe/Asia 5660 doesn't have the proper HSPA bands.
Look up the differences between the different Gio models. Now. Use the search function.
There's also one or two tutorial threads here with both Odin 4.42 and the GIO_v1.0.ops file linked.
The stock rooted ROM I uploaded a while ago, as well as the OEM one from samfirmware.com are usually the "one package" kind. If you're unsure, open the tar (or tar.md5) file with a proper archiving program (7-Zip works well and is free open-source) and have a look. There should be many files, including but not limited to: amss, arm11boot, mibib, oemsbl, qcsbl, boot.img, recovery.img and system.rfs.
Quick recap:
Flash the MUGK3 ROM with Odin.
If the phone bootloops, got in the stock recovery and do a factory reset, in other words, reformat the partitions.
Done!
Hi,
I accidentally flashed the Nexus7 firmware (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449072) on my S4 mini running latest CM10.1 nightly.
I wanted to ask, can i somehow revert that? it doesnt seem to affect anything at the moment..
these files were copied:
package_extract_file("bootloader-flag.txt", "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc");
package_extract_file("bootloader.sbl2.img", "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/sbl2");
package_extract_file("bootloader.sbl3.img", "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/sbl3");
package_extract_file("bootloader.tz.img", "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/tz");
package_extract_file("bootloader.rpm.img", "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/rpm");
package_extract_file("bootloader.aboot.img", "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/aboot");
package_extract_file("bootloader-flag-clear.txt", "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc");
package_extract_file("bootloader.sbl2.img", "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/sbl2b");
package_extract_file("bootloader.sbl3.img", "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/sbl3b");
package_extract_file("bootloader.tz.img", "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/tzb");
package_extract_file("bootloader.rpm.img", "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/rpmb");
package_extract_file("bootloader.aboot.img", "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/abootb");
package_extract_file("DDR.bin", "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/DDR");
can i just delete these files or are they used by the system? how would I be able to tell if they are used?
Thanks!
That doesn't look good. Some very important partitions might have been written to. Can you still boot it into recovery or the rom?
if the phone boot in recovery mode, the phone can be repaired;
can boot ?
I'm using the phone as usual
Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
The phone booted regularly and I am using it at the moment as if nothing happened.
So i guess I shouldn't reboot? ^^
How can I fix this? Reflash CM?
In the update script of CM I can't see these files being touched. The boot.IMG actually doesn't contain any files in /dev. Is that normal?
Thanks
Yeah those files are being written directly to partitions, which is very dangerous if they're from another device. The one you flashed in particular replaces the bootloader partitions, which might completely brick the phone and make it unbootable. I guess that if you was able to boot it after flashing it, that it didn't actually flash the partitions after all. So if everything seems ok, you should consider yourself lucky.
hy,
if the phone boot in recovery mode, then you can make a full restore factory firmware with this file:
Bootloader -> BOOTLOADER_I9195XXUAMG8_1097013_REV01_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar
PDA -> CODE_I9195XXUAMG8_1097013_REV01_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar
PHONE -> MODEM_I9195XXUAMG8_1097013_REV01_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar
CSC -> CSC_OXA_I9195OXAAMG8_1097013_REV01_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar
PIT -> CSB_signed_SERRANOLTE_ONEPIT_OPEN_130523.pit
the factory firmware are I9195XXUAMG8_1097013_DBT, link:
https://mega.co.nz/#!FtEjAKSY!QKwkYilDkcB43Yu1tYsBqTGsD5U-f3n3P5Uaho7bJY8
thanks
and would you recommend flashing that? would anything else be affected? (CM 10.1)
or am i "safe" ...
Thanks guys!
yes,
before flash CM 10 flash this files;
this is like installing a fresh windows os, and this will repaire your phone: inclusiv bootloaders, partitions etc
ok, and i do that by booting into download mode and flashing with odin, right?
yes ... and then you flash your firmware for your region
ok.. one last thing..
when you say firmware, what do you refer to? just the bootloader/modem? or the complete "factory image"?
does it matter if i flash a different firmware?
thanks
1. flash the files from the post #6
Bootloader -> BOOTLOADER_I9195XXUAMG8_1097013_REV01_user_low_shi p_MULTI_CERT.tar
PDA -> CODE_I9195XXUAMG8_1097013_REV01_user_low_ship_MULT I_CERT.tar
PHONE -> MODEM_I9195XXUAMG8_1097013_REV01_user_low_ship_MUL TI_CERT.tar
CSC -> CSC_OXA_I9195OXAAMG8_1097013_REV01_user_low_ship_M ULTI_CERT.tar
PIT -> CSB_signed_SERRANOLTE_ONEPIT_OPEN_130523.pit
2. then you flash firmware for your region, you can take the firmware from http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9195 ,
in my case my region is COA, then i chose firmware with COA; in your case probably is another region, your need to find your region on the box of the phone (is something like GT-i9195ZKACOA)
3. then if you want flash again CM 10.1
please feedback if work
solution:
Hi,
so thanks bog and arcos. what i did in the end:
boot into download mode, plugin to odin
select bootloader from the factory firmware that bog posted (thanks for that!)
select phone baseband from samsung-updates latest build (because there was a newer version.. AMH4 is what i have as baseband now)
all the files that were flashed by the update.zip from the OP have been replaced basically.
i didnt bother reflashing a full rom, and it works flawlessly now.
i guess i got lucky and thanks again!

Have u tried the return to full i8160 guide in development section?
Hi,
I have the same problem for 3 days now and I'm still trying to fix this but nothing helps.
I have done nearly the same like user "ppero196" in thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2416791. So far I have made only standard wipe (User Data Wipe/ Factory Reset, Cache Partition and Dalvik Cache) and flashed a lot of novafusion's roms without problems until I wanted to have a completely "clean" phone with new novafusion rom and formatted every partition in CWM I could find including modem partition too. (double facepalm)
I flashed several stock firmwares according to the instructions of the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2025096. Also 4.1.2 firmwares...
Still Baseband XXXX. I guess it has something to do with the modem partition and I should do something like dd if=/storage/extSdCard/mmcblk0p12.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12 (pperos196's thread) or am I wrong? But the file is for S3 mini...
Can anybody help please?
Try flashing 3 part fw(i8160P)
I've 8160 (without P)
and I tried flashing 3-parted rom without success: http://uploaded.net/file/rn2ewsea (Standard_I8160XXLL2_3tlg_bitstopfen.zip.zip)
from forum: http://www.android-hilfe.de/custom-...zu-2-3-6-3teilig-i8160xxll2-germany-root.html
There seems to be problems with Odin flashing modems. So I followed the instructions:
Ok it worked.
If anyone else is having issues with the baseband not changing, do this.
Use Odin v3.04
Untick Autoreboot
Flash modem
Reboot once again into Download Mode using (Vol Down plus Home button combi)
Flash Modem once more
Once done,unplug then reboot device manually.
If this doesn't work, try repeating the flash process again while rebooting manually and with auto-reboot option turned off.
http://www.android-hilfe.de/custom-...-2-3-6-3teilig-i8160xxll2-germany-root-2.html post #2 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025
But with Odin 3.04 occurs another error: Complete(Write) operation failed.
Im going crazy :silly:
For all who facing still the same problem... Flash FULL 3-Parted FW accoring to your Phone (as teddytsen already mentioned) but I think some links are helpfull.
Futhermore this is also recommended if you want to go back from any CM10.1/10.2/11 ROM to Samsungs stock GB/JB.
For 8160 and 8160L we have only an GB FW 3-parted available! But you can flash any JB (according to your phone) afterwards if you like....

Hi. I'm pretty sure it has to do with modemfs partition. For some reason it doesn't seem to be fully restored with stock firmware.
You should be able to restore it with someone else's backup, like in pperos thread where I helped him.
No IMEI is stored there. :good:
If I had such a backupfile, I would have already tried this. Where could I get such a modemfs backup? I'm not allowed to write to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145464 as I have not 10 posts...

Hello
I had same problem, exactly like topic starter says
I fixed it following this guide, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2088809
I didn't use TriangleAway like the thread guide says, but still worked.
Can anyone tell me how to avoid wiping my IMEI from my Note 2 when i try to install TWRP?
Thank you

did you use Odin to flash TWRP? I have never had any problems flashing 1st TWRP via Odin.
Make backup of EFS and keep it in safe place, everything else is not so important

Yes I used Odin, maybe with wrong TWRP file? is that possible?
Thanks for your anwser. I did that with a program called Titanium Backup
Do i restore it the same way i did the backup (same app) ?
What if it fails to restore it? Im afraid to try it again, it was a shock, though i bricked it
Some versions of TWRP don't do that. I used 2.8.0.0. But I just got tired of it and just used CWM philz advanced. I only use TWRP when i need to fix permissions.Also you can restore your IMEI by using Kies.
Helllo
I would appreciate if someone knows how to flash a modem.bin through TWRP? I was looking at an old post by someone who may have not posted more than the two posts seen here but had success in changing bands apparently...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/help/lte-band-28-support-t705-t3120415#post65106621
Thanks!
also how does one open system.img...have used ext4 unpacker successfully but the 5.0.2 system images from various firmwares will simply not open (not so with T235 and even T715 when I had it both LL, former in fact 5.1.1)...ext4 unpacker says unknown file format (several firmwares T705, T705Y and T705M)
Modem.bin can be flashed with odin.
But before you go messing about make a full backup with TWRP including the radio(modem)
You can then swap the modem in the twrp backup folder.
To extract Samsung ext4 system images you need to convert from sparse to raw format first.
Thanks ashyx for your reply. Odin flash fails which is what the person who posted back in May experienced (he said he then had success flashing the modem in twrp)....you mentioned swapping out modem in twrp (how is that done?) (yes have made multiple twrp backups)
Will dig up the program used for sparse converter of Huawei system.App...hope I can find it
Sent from my SM-T235 using XDA Free mobile app
If I understand correctly, you're trying to flash the modem through twrp?
If so, then download the archive, and replace modem.bin to your file compression method with "usual"

If it didn't work then either the tar archive wasn't made properly or odin is refusing to flash the modem.bin.
For TWRP just make a backup of the radio partition then replace the file it makes.
Any way you have the flashable zip posted above just use that.
