For some odd reason, whenever I plug my Apple Earpods into my Xperia Play I get a notification telling me that the accessory is not supported. However, if I hold down the middle button on the Earpod's mic not only on does the phone recognize them, but they work fine. The catch is, if I stop holding down the button, the audio becomes much more quite. Worse, is the fact that there is a constant beating sound coming from the Earpods when no audio is playing.
Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Is there maybe an setting in the phone that I can tweak to make them work. Also, keep in mind that my other headphones work fine, it's just that the Earpods are much better, and I'd like to get them working.
Had the Holding down issue on my old Satio, and Im afraid it is possibly either down to a hardware issue or the fact that Sony decided to f* the 3.5mm jack as Im sure that only a few and selected headphones with Microphones will work bar the ones that Sony decides to rip of people like me.. I've managed to order a set of livesounds' for this reason..
My apple earphones dont work for my xperia play. Solution: get another set of ear phones.
I may have found a fix for this. Apparently this adapter should fix the problem.

I found this really neat tutorial on how you can make the in-line controls for iDevice intended headphones to work with Android. I haven't tried it yet, as I want to make sure I find a backup cable for my headphones in case anything goes wrong. I may also just try to find some crappy iPhone buds to try it out on first.
All you need is a steady hand. So here is the how-to link:
http://www.instructables.com/id/Galaxy-Nexus-and-others-headset-remote-with-medi/#step1
If anyone does this I would love to hear how it works, as it would be awesome to finally have the volume controls working on my headphones.
It does list incompatibility with the Galaxy S, but doesn't mention the SII, and it does work with Galaxy Nexus, and the Note, so I'm assuming it will work with the SII.
If anyone tries this out, definitely post your results!
It works with any headphones that have a mic, just check on the box because some will say if they say if they are compatible with Android features,. The ifrogz work really good! But i do have a pair of the inline iphone control head phones well give them a shoot and see how it works and try the way you posted

+1. I had to install a signed headset mod to my rooted device to get it working though. Although, initially I used JAY's Headset Controls until they kept crapping out with the volume. Now I use the app recommended above. I bought it and it is worth it.

That would be correct. I've tried iBeats, Tours and the SL99 Soul from Luda and they all give me the "accessory not supported " error. If i use the adapter that came with the phone then I don't get the error but the sound plays from the phone speaker instead.

I've been there. I have some Beats in ears myself and they never worked. I even bought some Sony ear buds and even with the adapter they still don't work and give that same "accessory not supported" error. I've tried both of those, Bose QC2's, Sennheiser HD 201's and the only ear phones that ever worked in my play was my Samsung ear-bud w/ microphone headset from my old Samsung Omnia i900.
I saw on here a while ago that there is a fix. It has something to do with the polarity from plug being backwards (or something)...
I think Sony could've polished some things out a little better for this phone. Big one being support of accessories like these headphones since other android devices support them. Even ones made before this phone.

I agree! I even tried using my old HTC Aria headphones(which I still like better than new earbud crap) with my play and I get "not supported" message, so I know how ya feel. I think i would be kinda pissed if I can't use my newer expensive Beats Headset(if I had them).

I am using a blue parrot headset.
I'm using a Plantronics Voyager Legend and the volume does seem a little low even at maximum. It can be a bit staticy sometimes as well. Neither issue is so bad as to be annoying though. I had thought that the issue was with the Plantronics, but I suppose it's just as likely that the problem is with the Note. I haven't searched for a solution yet.

Silly question...but did you turn it up? I think there is a setting that adjusts in call volume to a lower level by default
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
I've seen the same thing. Its a software thing because on Jellybomb 5.1 the volume us definitely louder but still not loud enough. My same BT headset was much louder on my Evo and is much louder on my WP7.

Ya I just wish I was smart enough to figure it out I have tried multiple Bluetooth headsets and all them get quiet when you start taking but use thm on other phones and are louder
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
Any super smart developer that can figure this out there has to tweaks somewhere to increase the max volume
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
I would Definitely say its a problem with the note. The volume is way low on a call. I use a Moto hx550 and my GS3 worked great with it.
I have been following this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931970
and tried the tweaks by editing manually, but it didnt help bluetooth volume. So I'm either not tweking the right volume values or there will have to be another solution found. Its frustrating, but hopefully something will come out of one of these threads...
I have an issue with my Note 2 Bluetooth quality as well. Using Motorola Elite Silver. Seems to be perfectly fine with playing music and as soon as I initiate a call the quality degrades their voice breaks up as well as mine. Works fine with other devices, currently have tried on a couple different ones in the Sprint store I work at.

What rom/kernel are you running? If its a tw rom with a compatible kernel you could try STweaks.
It has an option to increase standard volume limits.

Hmmm, its got to be rom related then. If your headset works fine on a different phone, then thats all thats left. There is one last option for you
I use a jawbone icon I got fron ebay.
What really made the difference for me...jabra ear gels. They look crazy! But they hold inside the ear without a hook. An it tunnels the sound dramatically. $6 for a full set left and right.
Honestly bud, this made night and day difference! Sadly their not available in any store anymore. But online everywhere!
If sound is this much an issue for you. I would say the $6 is worth a try.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
There should really be a VLC-like setting on all ROMs that allows you to go above 100% on bluetooth volume if you choose to.
I have two sets of headsets. Both are Skullcandy but different models. They both worked on my Galaxy Nexus & Evo LTE.
The sound works fine. The Mic doesn't. Plus, if they are plugged into the phone and someone calls I can hear them. They cannot hear me through the phone or Mic because it disables the phones mic when they are plugged in.
The headset Mic works for recording sound with apps off the market. The only time the Mic doesn't work is for phone calls.
Is there a fix? Does anyone else have this problem? The phone didn't come with a headset in the box so if LG has done proprietary headset stuff they didn't have a way to eleviate it.
Thanks

I have skull candy ear buds I'm sure basically the same set and while I don't have the exact problem, they are problematic. They pick up so much background noise it's near impossible to hear me.
I too am interested in a fix for this.

Hold down the center button on the headphone while you plug it into the phone.

I wonder why holding the button fixes it?

I had the same issue, and through multiple trials and errors, I finally got it to work. However, what's weird is that I have to do this trick for some phones, but not others like my Epic 4G.

never in my life would I have thought to do this. ever.
Thanks for the tip!
There is a known issue with headsets designed for apple products where the mic doesn't work. I had the same issue with mine using iPhone 5 earphones. I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software limitation, or if they plan on fixing it. As soon as I find out, I'll be sure to post it.
I can confirm that holding down the center button on the headphones works for Bose MIE2i as well. Awesome!

Hello I'm new to the forum , I just got my note 3 and I noticed when I play music through my headphones it's not as loud as my HTC one Was , its sounds ok But it's weaker , any recommendations to make it sound louder or that's more a hardware issue, btw the speaker on the phone is about the same

HTC one has a built in amp. Personally, I think the headphone output is great and the best I've had on a phone. The gnote2 with Wolfson was excellent but slightly quoted than I would've preferred with headphones. All the mods people say to try did not fix it on the gnote2 as it added distortion or artifacts or even worse and that is why I quit using them. It is best to get a headphone amp. They can be had pretty cheap or check out JDS labs and the O2 and c5 amps. A little more pricey but probably cheapest audiophile quality amp for the price.
