So guys my phone came with the Radio XXALJ3 and i flashed a rom that had the DLX7 or DLL3 radio (correct me if im wrong!) does that have any affect on the phones performance, battery life, GPS,etc? should i go back to XXALJ3?
Radio is Modem. It only affects your 'phone call' related features, signal strength etc. So if you've strong and solid signal then no need to change modem. It's PDA which is the main firmware actually. But it's always recommended to use the modem dedicated for its country.

I have a Raph120 running the 1.14.25.05 radio ROM. I get both GPRS and 3G data connections under Android, so in that respect I can't complain.
However, when I move from cell to cell and/or drop from 3G to GPRS I lose data connection. It claims I still have a data connection, but no data is sent or received. I have to switch airplane mode on and off to reenable it.
Now, I have noticed a HUGE difference under WinMo when using various radio ROMs with and without their corresponding rilphone.dll. So, what's the best ROM to use with Android's RIL? Is there any difference or will it always use some kind of "legacy" mode.
From my understanding, different radio ROMs do not change anything with Android, but I could be wrong.
Hi, for quite a while now I've wondered why there is no way to 'prefer 3G` under network settings, instead I use the wcdma/GSM auto. But the problem with that setting is 1min I can have a full strength 3G signal, then without moving or anything it jumps up to HSDPA signal, but extremely weak..... like 1 bar, therefore it's slower than the 3G, is there any radio to `Prefer 3G`?
I have a Rooted Stock ROM-2.2 +Sense-Froyo (without the OTA update) + Radio version: 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20
I would simply prefer it at this point there is any way at all to just restrict it to 3G MAX, as H even at 3bar signal strength isnt as fast up/down stream as a good Full 3G performance. (not that it ever stays on 3G long enough for me to notice, just from 2G-->H )
many thanks
I`m in the UK on Vodafone BTW.
Have you tried this widget?
It's for controlling 3G/2G networks.
On the other hand, you could always try some custom ROMs. ROMs such as DeFroST or CM come with CM Tools, which allows you to change your signal (3G only, 2G only and 3G/2G) in the drop down notification bar.
If all else fails, just flash a newer (?) radio.
as far as i know i`m on the latest Radio. unless there is any custom Radio ROM i`m un-aware of, 1 that maybe allows extra options in the settings menus relating to networks etc.
(i assume you mean radio ROMs, not full HTC ROMs)
Can i get this DeFroST app on its own to put on my Rooted 2.2 Froyo HTC Stock ROM, most stuf i searched for suggests complete new ROM, but i dont even know if theres any extra in that app for the problem i have ?
cheers.
Based on this thread, you radio is probably not.
Also, if I understand correctly, you just want to be able to change signals without installing a custom HTC ROM?
Then I suggest googling for a widget to allow that on your stock rooted desire.
I'm having an issue that happens about 50% of the time. When in a WiFi zone and connected to a router, quite often the mobile network will lose connection so I cannot make calls or send texts. None of the mobile bars are illuminated and there appears to be a little "x" above them. Leaving the WiFi zone disconnects from the router, but the mobile network still does not come back.
I have to reboot the phone before it picks up the mobile network again. It's really frustrating because without checking my phone, I never know whether it has mobile network connection or not (when i'm in a WiFi area such as work). I know the area i'm in has mobile connection, but WiFi just seems to kill it.
This is happening on the stock HTC ROM and the latest Oxygen ROM that I flashed to. Is this a known big or any tips/tricks?
Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > press Menu, select Advanced, and check your Wi-Fi Sleep policy settings.
maybe you have an old radio? i would suggest that you try to flash another radio to see if it solves your problem. again, just a suggestion!!!

Hmmm, I did not know about that. I'm not sure it'll fix the issue, but the WiFi turning off an on did somewhat bug me, so cheers for showing me that setting anyway

Well, I don't know what my stock radio was, but when I flashed to Oxygen I tried the one the dev recommended. Perhaps i'll try another.
Would 3 Mobile be really annoyed if I took the phone in for help and it was flashed to a custom ROM?

You could also try a modified kernel and as suggested above, a different radio version as this can help with issues related to Wi-Fi reception, GPS signal strength, and battery life.
If you purchased the mobile from 3 Mobile, then they may suggest that your warranty is void as you have 'hacked' it. You can always flash back to stock ROM and then check if the same issue persists. If not, then go back to a custom ROM, try different radio versions and some may work better as it can depend on your network/area, and if still not resolved, try flashing a compatible modified Kernel from the Desire Android Development section of the forum.
I'm using Leedroid 2.3b with RIL optimised for 5.11.05.27, and I notice weak signal with WiFi, it is present, but WiFi bars change all the time, among other symptoms similar to those he has described. The other day I went out of range of WiFi network, but the phone hasn't switched to mobile network, but instead the WiFi icon remained and there of course was no connection. Would you define this as an ROM or radio issue? Is there any sense in changing the radio to other when the ROM developer stated this one is the best?
A few days ago I flashed the newest radio (I was using batt+ up to that moment) because I experienced echo during calls. Now the echo is gone, but this happens.

I think it could be ROM or Radio related... I was not aware that the associated RIL was to be flashed also although I know it is always recommened as it can provide an important part in handling the communication between the Radio and the Kernel.
Have you tried without the RIL and just the radio alone? Try that and see if it improves the situation.
I downloaded and flashed RIL for this radio. It shouldn't make any difference though since this RIL is supposed to be in the ROM already. :s
This radio is also downloaded OTA from our provider. I checked my sister's Desire, she has the same radio on her stock Desire (i.e. it was downloaded OTA).

Is there any good advice on what Radios work well and what they excel at? I see quite a lot posted, but no hard information on what works best
What I would love is one that actually picks up mobile signal. Where I live, we get very poor reception, however, usually 1 bar is possible. My Desire never picks up anything whereas my old N95 8gb used to get 1 bar as does my brothers phone.
It's good enough for texts at least. Any advice on radios then?
Does rooting and flashing of custom roms affect cell signal?
I just recently switched to a new rom, AcesMod007 and I seem to have some problems receiving text messages, sometimes its fine but others I get messages really late. Also on a previous rom, I was using Oxygen for awhile, I lost cell signal in spots where others easily have 3-4 bars, as well as only having emergency service even when I have 2-3.
I know this can be a problem with my carrier as well but even when I'm with friends who are on the same network I can lose signal and they'll still have it.

This might be related to the Radio that you use. Menu -> about phone -> software information -> baseband version.
Also try comparing the results from this test: dial *#*#4636#*#* select "telephone information" and scroll down to "Prefered network type" (these are loose translations). Try to select the same network preference that he has.
The baseband version says 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08, I have no idea what that means.

Compare results with your friend, see if information is identical.

The number is like a software version.
Does the rom developer reccommend a particular radio?
The version you state is pretty new so it should be fine!
There is more information here, sometimes its a case of flashing a few different radios and seeing what works best.

Is there a developer thread for the rom? Maybe post there to see what others use?
Hi
(sorry for bad english)
I'm living in Persia, and I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S4 M919
MY Original ROM was MK2
I rooted my phone with this method :

I unlock my phone with this method and everything went very well.

(The antenna signal is always between 5 and 4, but the sound was good, as the case may be due to differences Frequency Band between T-Mobile and my Operator)

I updated My phone to NB4 ROM,and I noticed in Battery Graph the Mobile Network Signal is always black, except for the occasional bit of green. However, coverage is still good as before
I've read the black color means that the radio is turned off or disconnected. it's True?
Should I be worried about this ? , that case makes it use more battery? (always searching for a better signal)
Generally how reliable is the Mobile Network Signal?
I've tested the modem NH7 as well as NB4 and often Mobile Network Signal is black.
Now I've installed the modem MK2 in NB4-ROM, and the Mobile Network Signal mostly green. Photo is attached. (Antenna still vary between 4 and 5 ,and is acceptable)
The difference between modem and bootloader is causing the problem?
I have this problem only on Android 4.4 ,is this coming from Android 4.4 bugs , or difference band of my operator and T-Mobile ?
Friends: What is your suggestion?
Which is better? NB4 ROM with MK2 modem OR original NB4 and I do not notice the Mobile Network Signal?
Both GSM and 3G have this issues, But i use often GSM
Thanks in advance.:fingers-crossed:
It's normal, don't know if its a bug but it doesn't mean you had no signal or that its searching for a better signal.. I've had that since 4.3 or 4.4.2 can't remember exactly.. Just don't worry about it, if you lose signal it would have a red bar. Mobile network is just as dependable as it's always been, I've made calls and received notifications while showing black..
This is my graph with a little bit of black on full 4.4.4 firmware

It just doesn't display correctly I'm assuming.. Why don't you update to NH7?

'm not sure about upgrading to NH7 because i cannot downgrade if it has problem or etc . (and for root most use CF-Auto-Root and unlock boot-loader )
I hear some issues of NH7 and not want update at this time.
i stay in NB4 , unless Android 5 come for our device. or have major issues with this rom
but now i search to resolve this issues (Mobile Network Signal's Color is completely black in NB4 modem) and i hope i find solution.
difference between Bootloader and modem , May create a problem? if yes , In what context?
I have not problem with signal and could be a problem later?
thanks

People post they have problems with every firmware, but I never have problems, most of the problems are user error I'm sure.. It could be a bootloader mismatch issue, but like I said earlier, having a black bar doesn't affect signal or battery
