You need the tar file from the zip and flash it in odin on the computer.Your phone needs to be in download mode pressing Home button+Volume down+ power all at the same time. Then when the screen pulls up press volume up button and plug in to computer/launch odin/press pda button/find tar file/press start. When it says done just unplug. Try this thread for more guides and info.

I have no idea how you are trying to go about unzipping the file because you have given almost no information.I have never seen this pointer error that you are talking about. Here is a link to an unzip tool that I personally use,it has a free trial. It will unzip any zip file easily. Download the zip file and unzip it all on the PC.Hope that helps. http://www.rarlab.com/

can u point out the folder???
It resides in the User Temp folder of your windows user profile.
And is deleted as soon as the firmware upgrade is completed on your phone.
can you post the exact compressed file name..what zip utility are you using.
I know winzip is suck..cant unzip alot of stuff.
What size is the package file ?
if the package is stored on non-english characters..that post problem too.
Its just any random file name ending with a TMP extension. Its about 257MB.
e.g. tmp2EFA.tmp
Still no leads to opening this file.
Post the first line of the file: some formats are identifiable based on their opening signature.

What unzip program are you using ?
Can you try change the extension to .7z and use WinRar to unzip it..Winzip no go
Before Kies starts to flash the firmware, it decrypts the .tmp file to .zip file in the same directory. When Kies update window says "Extracting binary file" or something like that, you can copy the zip file from temp directory. It contains one tar and one dll file. Tar file can be flashed with Odin

If that's the case, are there any other ways to decrypt this file back to zip directly than doing the whole upgrade thing again just for the zip?

Is it a zip (that doesn't have a tar inside) or is it a tar file? Zip will most likely be in CWM, tar is always ODIN.

the other one is a rar file and i dont know what to do with it.
i have darkside digital warfare rom but i cannot get it to install correctly thru cwm. i gets to darth vader loading screen blue line fills up then flashes samsung and turns off and thats it.

in the type column just says md5. it doesnt say tar anywhere
Yes they are files to use through odin inside a zip file...
And they are password protected ... You must extract the zip first , then use the file in odin ...
usually samfirmware.com, sammobile.com or something like that ...
thanks for your help guys. i will try tomorrow when i get home from work. i have juggernaut running pretty good on it now
sounds like you have an incomplete dl too
where would i put in the password on the sammobile stock rom? i will redownload it to see if changes

If your download file still in .zip format?
If so you need to unzip it into it's usable *.TAR format.

Done, what's next...
go into terminal app, type the following:
"su"
It will ask you for root access. type Grant.
"busybox dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/backup.bin bs=1M count=70"
It will create a backup.bin in the root of /sdcard. ipload that file here. if the file type isnt supported, put it in a .zip then upload it using your pc. if you dont have a pc, just rename the end part of the file (.bin) to (.zip) and upload it here.

could you link me a full tutorial for the debrick?
OK download Odin v3.07 search it in Google. then, open Odin, and extract all the files to the desktop.
Before continuing, make sure to backup all of your files because it will be deleted. The file you downloaded before, open it with winrar, then extract the files inside, to the desktop. Open Odin. Get your phone and turn it off. Once its off, hold vol down + home button + power button until you get the prompt to go to download mode. click vol up and it should say "Downloading...". Connect the phone to the computer, and Odin should recognise it. go to the AP slot, click it, and navigate to the file you extracted. Wait for Odin to recognise the file. After, click start, and don't disconnect it until it says "PASS" on the screen, or the phone boots up completely in the set-up. Its recommended that you eject the SD card in your phone (if you have one). Also, make sure only F reset time, and auto reboot are checked.

Hey man! Sorry I haven't been able to respond recently. Sent you a pm, but basically I've been in and out of town a lot the last few days!
Got a couple items that makes the process of creating a debrick.img very easy! Started out with a simple script and it evolved from there!
This one will create a 128mb debrick.img on your internal sdcard. (/sdcard/debrick.img)
Download this and flash in TWRP: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23196940996969297
That's It! Now just zip and upload!
(ignore the T999 in the filename
It will work on the I747 too)
This next one is slightly more difficult to use, but still easy if you just follow the instructions included in the zip file.
It includes options to create 128mb, 256mb and 512mb images. You should only need the 128mb one but we were using this for testing and troubleshooting when new firmwares were released.
Do NOT flash in recovery. Unzip and follow the included instructions. It will create the debrick.img and then will zip it for you using 7zip.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23196940996969297
The first is the easiest and probably all you need. Just included the second in case anyone wants to try it or the first method doesn't produce a working image. (Doesn't fix a brick)
Hope it helps!

Hello all, I need some help finding the .tar or the .md5 file from the stock ROM zip file (Tab Pro 8.4).
I am trying to flash / revert back to stock ROM and recovery, since I am giving this tablet to my nephew. I've downloaded the official firmware directly from Samsung, I've downloaded Odin V3.07 and the samsung drivers are installed on my laptop. I've used Odin before, to flash files (months ago), but where I'm getting stuck is on Odin when I go to select the .tar or the .md5 file form the zip, I can't locate the files. I've extracted them several times using different methods, but not a single time have I been able to extract a .tar or .md5 file, all I get is: META-INF folder, system folder and boot disk image, no .tar or .md5 file anywhere in the folders either.
Am I an idiot here or what am I doing wrong that I don't get the .tar or .md5 file?
Any help is appreciated, thanks!
i am not sure where you downloaded it from. i took it from sammobile and the name of the zip is: T320XXU1BNI1_T320DBT1BNJ1_DBT.zip inside it being a file named: T320XXU1BNI1_T320DBT1BNJ1_HOME.tar.md5
PS: i have a german device thats why the DBT code...please download yours...

I am downloading it one more time from sam mobile just to make sure. How did you extract the zip (what program)? 7zip, winrar, etc?
i think i know whats going on. i use winrar for windows you probably use something else. inside .zip there is a .md5 file but inside .md5 file there are meta folders etc. some software consider it being an archive inside an archive and it doesn't even bother to tell you that probably it's extracting folders directly...

use 7 zip, there should be a .tar.md5 in the .zip only extract the .tar.md5. dont extract anything from the tar.md5. just select the tar.md5 in odin after you put your device in download mode
