Matte vs clear - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

What is best looking and better performing screen protector for the nexus?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

Clear is better IMO. Matte has a papery texture to it.

Matte also ruins the beauty of the screen by giving everything this hazy look almost like there's oil on the screen.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

Better looking: clear
Better performing: depends. Matte will give you a smooth touch. Clear would be almost the same as the screen without protection.

Why is that?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

Matte coz my hand is always sweaty.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus

i choose clear because of sweaty hands leave lots of finger prints.
have also tried matte but in the end it feels like perma finger prints that i just cant wipe off.

Imo, it depends on what is your intention of using screen protector. If it's to protect screen, i think you don't need it as the glass itself is hard and anything that will scratch it will just pass through the plastic protector.
Matte has a function of antifinger print but using one will ruin the quality of the display.
I have used both clear and matte but i decided to remove them and stayed in bare screen. I have been using my phone for months without any protector in my pocket and the screen is scratchless.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

Well, back on topic, I prefer the matte myself, same as the reasons listed before.
Seems like it is less prone to fingerprints, and when I do get them they wipe off easier. Also, my finger seems to glide across the screen better.
On the downside, it definitely affects the quality of the image on screen.

I've used them both and both have pros and cons.
Matte:
- no fingerprints.
- in some cases depending on the quality of the protector you need to increase the brightness of the screen to make it look good.
Clear:
- fingerprint magnet.
- scratches are noticeable.
- the screen looks simply amazing (and this is the reason why I prefer the clear one even if it has to be replaced more often)

I'll drop a new option. Ghost Armor. The clearest screen protector I've ever seen and it doesn't show fingerprints and can be wiped clean with a shirt. Also very durable.
Also this should be in the accessories thread.

No. They have a new "hd" material that is almost invisible. Takes a couple days to mold completely though. Once it does its barely there.

Does your finger glide over the screen easily or is there some resistance?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

I prefer the clear ones, the matte ones seem to distort the image a little and they are a little weird to touch.

Easily. I get it on all my devices. If anything happens to it you can go to any Ghost Armor stores and for $5 they'll replace it.

screen protector with anti fingerprint coating?

so i know lots of people are complaining about the fingerprints on this phone, personally the anti-fingerprint coating has been working perfectly for me.
i do want to get a screen protector though, but i'm hoping for one that has the same coating.
i think i saw a post somewhere here about one but couldn't find it so i'm wondering if anyone knows one.
There are some available.. I think stential or something like that, the spelling is prolly wrong, makes them. But it degrades the quality of the screen.

oh that's disappointing. i wouldn't want anything to lower the quality of the screen, need to show this beast off lol.
almost tempted to continue to go without a protector and just be extra careful then.
Www.sgpstore.com is the company I was thinking of.. Not sure if they make them for the gnex yet tho.

Ordered one from amazon, used same one for galaxy S2, worked great. google this: SGP Samsung Galaxy Nexus Prime Screen Protector Steinheil Series
http://xoskins.com Theirs reduces them a tun. Here's a video of it
well from what you guys are saying SGP seems to be the best. the Xoskins looks interesting but i'm a little confused. their video makes it seem great, but you say that it reduces them, so what do you mean there?
and just to be sure, if i want the anti-fingerprint one this is the one i get right:

Yes. Just know that it doesn't go edge to edge on the screen because of the curve.

shouldn't be too much of an issue for me since i use a case anyway and hopefully that will cover up the fact that it's not edge to edge.

This is not always true. The Steinheil Ultra Oleophobic will not degrade the quality of the screen. It is a bit undersized but this is by design since the screen is curved and it's a dry-apply screen protector. I've used them on my Incredible, Eris and TB and loved every one for not only their ability to minimize the appearance of finger smudges but their ease of installation as well.

The texture you get with many wet application screen protectors.
http://www.google.ca/search?q=scree...A&biw=1619&bih=959&sei=RyRXUKSZF6rj0QG_kYCQBw
bumpy looking surface, like the surface of an orange. The soft application screen protectors tend to do this, but offer a greater protection in most cases

Xtream guardz screen protector for like $6 has almost no orange peel yet its better than most wet protector including the zagg, I also didn't wait for it to dry and it didn't mess it up at all

Nope, had one on my epic4gtouch, and I put it on without an air bubble or follicle of hair underneath. Looked just fine, but when light shined on it, you could see the orange peel effect and even the slightest touch of a fingernail.

My Zagg feels as smooth as glass. I do see the affect you mean, but I think the complaints are people being a bit petty. Zagg is a great product, and this "issue" has never bothered me. My screen still looks beautiful to me.

IMO, I can't stand water applied screen protectors, even if they don't have the orange peel effect, I can still feel the rubbery sensation. This is the reason I go with the dry applied screen protectors, I'm currently using SGPs.
You're suppose to wipe off all the liquid on the side you touch before it dries. You wet that side so it isn't scratched or scraped when using the rubber applier. If you wipe it all off you don't get the rubber feel on the protector.

I have orange peel on my XO skin, it was my first wet skin so could be the way I installed it, but I still like the protector

I use the Ringbo Ultimate Clear Plus. It's a PET film which is like thick plastic. I love it because it doesn't feel sticky to the touch like other screen protectors. Check it out on Amazon. Comes with 2 per pack.

Which one do you use ?
The dry protector that came with my Diztronic case was decent. However, after experiencing the XO Skins wet apply screen protector on my Galaxy Nexus I decided to get it for the Galaxy SIII as well. Defintely the best quality screen protectors I've used in terms of clarity, feel, fit, and ease of install.
http://xoskins.com/cell-phone-skin-.../samsung-galaxy-s-3-screen-protector-case-fit
I highly recommend it.
However, the one downside is that both times I have ordered these protectors in the "case fit" version, they have sent me the full screen version instead. This isn't a huge deal for me since I have a case that works with the full screen protector. But if you need a case fit one which works with many TPU cases, make sure you check that it is the case fit when you receive it.
But even with that hick-up I am still extremely pleased with the protector.

Zagg HD and the Note 2

I installed the Zagg HD screen protector on my new Note 2 yesterday, and I will tell you it should not have been cleared for use with the Note 2. It is so soft that it feels like it's ribbed from using swype with the S-Pen... and I don't press hard at all. What's worse, it's effecting the accuracy of the S-Pen itself, as I find I need to press harder. I would not recommend this screen protector for use with our amazing device. Really looking like I might have to go naked unless I can find a very S-Pen friendly protector!
PS
Best Buy Mobile offered to exchange the protector for me and install it tomorrow, an offer which I am going to accept and deal with until I find the best alternative.
I have the extreme guard $4 body and screen. Everything works flawless.

I made the mistake of believing the saleslady at Best Buy Mobile that the new Zagg HD was just fine with the S-Pen... first mistake. I have a Rearth screen protector waiting for me at home once I return from this business trip... but ya, I am looking forward to the upcoming Glas protector as well. Any word on it's release date?
I was on the same boat I bought the rubber screen.. shouldve posted a warning but got lazy :/
And I asked sgp and all they said so far was that it was a wip... and blah blahs
The glass protector is the best doe cause it feels as it were naked <3
But ill make a thread when I hear about the protector

I'm using the zagg smudge proof protector from best buy and it is not rubbery, doesn't dent or scratch and is true full screen. So far I'm extremely happy with it. Your fingers slide across the screen better with it than naked also there's no orange peel effect either.
If anyone is interested IMHO this is the best zagg to put on.

Warning about Zagg (and screen protectors in general) on Galaxy S3

Removed my zagg protector today and noticed the glue from the shield completely took off the oleophobic coating. Now the glass isn't as smooth and attracts fingerprints even more. Just a warning to those putting on a screen protector, you may actually be damaging the phone.

I can't remember where i saw it but a few months ago i saw the kit online to replace the glass screen coating....oleo whatever.
Maybe find something here http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Samsung-Galaxy-S-III-SGH-i747-AT-T-s/18091.htm
and how to take it apart here http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/search/samsung+galaxy+s3
I use self laminating sheets from Office Max. I Cut to fit and apply. Easy to remove too. They last maybe two weeks, but they do give some protection to the screen and it's super inexpensive since you get so many sheets to a box. They look just fine. I don't think they cling hard enough to remove any coating but I haven't really looked for that.

I took mine off, too, without seeing any negative effects on the screen. I got a tempered glass screen protector and now won't ever use anything else. It feels just like the original glass and protects the phone at the same time.
I like the Zagg stuff. I've had them on all my phones and never had an issue. I have the HD on my GS3 now and had it replaced a couple times, but nothing left on the screen.
ZAGG was pretty good for the iPhones.
Thanks for the heads up on this one. Phew.
Used Armorshield on my Nexus 4.
Probably will do the same for my GS3. :highfive:
