really this forum is full of the answer for your issue. Now question do you know about noise suppression?
ok maybe you just did not know or maybe you tried this already go to phone then settings then check off noise suppression. If that is already checked off then try new radios. I apologize but your question is all over the forum with answers. I would suggest you change your wording next time when looking for things.... I hope the info helps
Try noice suppression ?

Bad Sound Quality on Calls

Hey guys and gals. I've been active in the Sprint GS2 dev forums for over a year but this is my first post in the TMo section. I just bought my wife a new TMo GS2 that had never been activated. It already had the UVLE1 ICS update on it. When she calls me (or anyone else) her voice sounds muffled and there's what sounds like background noise when she is speaking. When she isn't talking, the background noise goes away. Just wondering if anyone is having this issue. She never used the phone with GB so we don't know if it has anything to do with the update. I told her tonight to try a factory reset to see if that helps and I was also considering flashing back to stock GB with Odin. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated

I know it. Skype quality is very fine. But the normal calls are a so bad. Open the call window -> go in the option menu and de/activate the (i dont know the word in english) "Noise suppression". Test both. After the change it should working correctly.
You can check your microphone. Do a test call with skype or some other internet call app.

Thanks. Last night I was at work and told her to go into her phone app, open settings, and look for a noise suppression option. She said there was no setting for that. Maybe she's looking in the wrong place. I'll try a Skype call to see if the Mic is ok. I might root her phone and flash some modems to see if that helps, too. I can flash older GB modems, right?

That's definitely the most likely solution when you find it. That has popped up all over the forums and most everyone seems happy with it.

Thanks. Yes I've now seen where this topic has been talked about quite a bit. I was on Tapatalk when I posted and it does a lousy job of searching. The stock ICS update doesn't have the noise suppression feature. I've downloaded the files I need so tomorrow I'm going to root the phone with Zedomax's Odin method, flash CWM and Superuser, then try different modems.

echo issue on calls

People I've been talking too on the phone say that they hear themselves echo when talking. They don't hear me echo nor do I hear them echo. This Has been happening since I switched to a CM10.1 ROM. I haven't tried it with a stoke ROM yet. Will have too.
Personally I don't think it has anything to do with the ROM. Do you think APN settings would effect call quality even though APN is for data? I reflashed the at&t modem from the link in the development reference thread and the echo is still there.
From my experience, one of the speakers is blown. I believe its the one you talk in to. If im correct your carrier should let you take it in for warranty.

I can understand that if they heard me echoing. Thing is they don't hear me echo they only hear themselves echo. Just my thoughts.
Update:
So I flashed back to the stock at&t ROM and made a few calls. They reported that they didn't hear an echo when they talked. I'm wondering if the eco is related to the cm10.1 mic issue. The next thing I'm going to try is using the plan phone APN. Anyone have any thoughts?

update
Did some more testing. I deleted all APN's and add only the ATT Phone APN and people who talk to me still have an echo when they talk.
One idea I have is noise cancellation is there any way to edit those settings or adjust those values. I only have this issue on CM10.1 ROMS not on ATT Stock ROMS. Any ideas.

it's probably related to the noise-cancelling mics; i recall the same issue happening with early versions of CM10 on the SGS3. that's one reason i haven't tried CM10.1: the phone calls have to be clear without issue. i'm on the phone 1-2 hours everyday during the week.
Did some more testing. I made a VoIP call using Skype with no issues. No echo at all. So to me that rules out noise cancelation since the echo doesn't happen over VoIP.
Since VoIP is over internet and not over the cell network it makes me think that it has to do with compression for the cell network call. Probably decompression speed on my end since they hear an echo on there end of the call.
Any thoughts? Any way to monitor this or do sys dump or log?

well, i'm not very technical and follow a KISS issue resolution approach when it comes to these things. if i have an issue with a "Custom ROM" but not the Stock ROM, it's an issue with the former. example: when i had a HTC One X with CM10 installed, i experienced a similar echo issue. i could validate this using CM10 by dialing 1-703-376-ECHO and hear the echo as i spoke into the phone. conversely, with the stock HTC One X rom, there was no echo issue. it took a while to track down, but the fabulous xda-devs eventually fixed the issue.
Ya traced it down to volume boost. Turned down the volume and the echo is gone. Oh well I like full volume on calls.

First off this is the wrong forum. This should be posted in q/a. Second, that's your Google voice. You will need to access the Google voice settings from a computer to change that.

It's not the network, so it has to be the app. It seems like those VoIP apps have a lot of issues.
