[Q] Cant Boot into Recovery/Bootloader - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, I´ve recently done the most stupid thing in my life, my phone was running fine and I decided to flash another HBOOT, ofc. my phone got stuck on "HTC LOGO" screen.
At this part I would normally pull out the battery, restart in recovery/bootloader but I have one problem, my VOLUME button DOESNT WORK, because I´m a retard and the wires (or how ever you can call it) are cut off(dont ask me why, pls), so its not working, so I cant boot into recovery, or bootloader, im f*cking stuck in "HTC LOGO" screen with no clues.
So my question is, is there some workaround? I mean, are there other combos? Using the 4 buttons on the bottom? All I need is to connect the phone to the pc, so i can somehow control it.
Or do I really have to go to the store and let them fix it up?
Thanks.
Sincerely, F*cking retard.

Hello, Mr. F*cking retard
To get in fastboot mode (pretty much bootloader), hold powerbutton+backbutton.
When installing a hboot, you need to:
1. Backup your current rom.
2. Boot in fastboot.
3. If needed, flash downgrader.
4. Flash new hboot.
5. Restore backup.
With respect, The Guy with a weird username.

Mr. YouAreMyHeroAndIWillLoveYouForRestOfMyLife
You just saved my day, i succesfully rebooted, flashed another hboot, rebooted, everything is working smooth.
I owe you a beer.
Many Thanks !

Well I just woke up and I tried switching my phone and what would you know it worked but it kept switching itself off as soon as Touch Diamond was shown. So I entered bootloader and I flashed the EnergyRom and the phone restarted itself and on the starts screen my Radio was mentioned as "1.20 Olinex" and my prtocol was 52.55a something. And also there was a "G" in the bottom left corner after which it went to customization where it switched itself off again and now I can't switch it on again what do I do. :S

If you can, next time when it starts to work again, Try flashing the Radio to a proper one, then flash your hardspl again, then install a new rom.
Hey thanks a lot everyone I had to flash a stock ROM and everything started working perfectly again but I still wonder what had gone wrong. hmm. thanks a lot anyways guys.

Desire stuck, no recovery, no boot

Hi
I have got a problem since this morning and I really need some help. Everything was always working fine, I have a rooted HTC desire, running GingerVillain 1.3.
Yesterday I did an update to GingerVillain 1.4 through gingervillain updater.
The update was ok.This morning I take my phone, and try to reboot it.
And now, it is stuck in a bootloop on the green HTC logo.
I can access to hboot (0.80), but when I try to access to recovery to flash another ROM, I have got the green htc logo, then a black screen.
On this black screen, if I use the power button to wak up the screen, then I can see just one line saying : clockworkmod recovery v2.5.1.0. But I can't see any menu on the recovery.
So I can't boot my desire, I can't flash something else, I am kinda stuck...
I tried removing my SD card, and it is the same thing.
Thanks in advance for your help...
Did you check the feedback about GibgerVillain's update?
Yes I did. It seems that I am the only one with this kind of problem.

That means you did something wrong. Maybe the copy of the download was foul. Do you have S-ON or S-OFF?
Well, I don't know what I could have done wrong, but I have found a solution.
I went into fastboot, plug in to my PC, then launch a flash with an original ROM (RUU).
After that, a little Unrevoked to get root access and install a recovery, and i started again from draft.
Anyway, thanks for your help.
I'm glad you figured it out.

Desire un-responsive - Please Help

I've seen a couple of threads such as this with no real solution.
I've been happily using my Desire for months without changing roms or whatever (CM7 and s-off) until last night I opened my Dolphin browser and before it loaded the homepage it froze, totally un-responsive. I took the battery out, and to my horror, it was still totally un-responsive. Wouldn't respond to pressing the power button, pressing volume down+power, charger, or usb.
The battery at the time was about 50%, I've had the battery in and out about 100 times now, trying things like leaving the battery out and then trying again, keeping it on 'charge' for a while and trying to get it booted, with no response at all.
This was until an hour ago, I hopefully tried to boot the phone after the battery, sim and sd card had been out for a while and I got a vibration, and then it hung on the flash screen. I had to remove the battery, then tried to boot again with no response, so I left it a while again, put the battery in and got to the bootloader, thought I'd get into recovery and try a nandroid or something, only when I selected recovery it hung on the slash screen again.
Does anyone have any ideas what this is, or how this could be fixed? Damn I hate not being able to use my previously awesome phone!
I apologise for the long post, I'm just trying to give a good explanation of things. I just couldn't see the problem being my battery, only the day before the problem I was telling my friend how great the battery life on my phone is, and that he should give rooting a go and use CM7, this probably hasn't swayed his decision to root his phone.

did you try rebooting it without sdcard?
If you manage to get it running , try to flash a shipped ROM - it should unroot you and fix any software problems . Try taking it back to your carrier as that sounds more like a hardware problem.
you are stuck on HTC screen are you not? Then this is the exact same situation is it not?

"I'm S-ON, I can't boot recovery, and my phone doesn't boot "
This is a bit of a worse situation, as you cannot flash system critical parts such as the recovery image and just restore a backup. This unfortunately means that you will lose all of your data when you attempt to fix the phone.
[STEP1]- Make sure that you have a goldcard. If not, create one from the tutorial.
[STEP2]- Battery pull. Hold the BACK button and the POWER button to boot into FASTBOOT mode.
[STEP3]- Download the latest WWE RUU from here
[STEP4]- Run the RUU and wait for completion WARNING: DO NOT, BY ANY CIRCUMSTANCES INTERRUPT THE PROCESS - THIS WILL MORE THAN LIKELY END UP WITH A BRICKED PHONE - NOT EVEN IF GOD HIMSELF TELLS YOU TO DO SO, OR IF THE US PRESIDENT THREATENS YOU WITH THERMO-NUCLEAR WAR
[STEP5]- Once the phone is booted, you are now returned completely to stock. You will need to re-root again, and I'd recommend S-OFF

I've changed the HTC screen to a Google one, but yes, formally the HTC screen.
I will try and get to the bootloader/fastbootagain, only I have not been able to get to that today. I'm going to download an RUU, and try and flash it, although I'm not sure how if I can't get into recovery? Any help there?

Made a noob error there and didn't have the udb plugged in. Got fastboot up, and downloading an RUU, will let you know how I get on, thanks for the help.
Would you advise, running my previous nandroid, once I get up and running again?

Thanks for the help, unfortunately when I got the RUU downloaded and the bootloader downgrader I now can't get the phone into fastboot! Rather gutted, as I could get it there the other day, now I may have to accept defeat!
What happens when you try to get to fastboot mode? How do you do it? Try to boot into hboot, then press power button and you should be in fastboot mode.

I may have to accept defeat, but I don't think I will be blaming Android, more than likely a drop of the phone in the past that has taken it's toll or something.
Sadly nothing in the contents of your quite excellent guide jumped out at me as relating to my problem.
But, thanks for helping and your advice.

I have been onto them. The response from HTC was amazing, after detailing in an email my phone is dead, won't respond and won't turn on.
I was told, 'while the phone is on, remove the battery and sim and perform a soft reset, if this fails, perform a factory reset, through settings'
I replied asking them how much it will be for them to fix it, they haven't replied! Maybe they don't do weekend!
So if I send it off to them, are they going to frown upon me for fiddling with the phone and rooting etc?

[Q] Can't access bootloader or recovery, black screen only

Hi guys,
I've tried searching but can't seem to find something that exactly matches my issue and I'm scared I'm gunna muck this up!
Just got a One X and unlocked, rooted and flashed android revolution 9.4.1 with CWM and all was working great.
Tonight I decided to flash a camera mod, worked well. I also flashed a beats mod, brightness mod and quick settings.
Now all I get is the phone stuck in a bootloop, no access to the bootloader via power on and vol down.
I'm new to HTC devices like this and I'm kinda new to all of this including fastboot etc
I would really appreciate some help here and if someone could point me in the right direction and help me get this sorted then a pint is on me sir.
If you could keep it simple like step by step
Really sorry if this is in the wrong forum
James
Mods are specific to the base on the ROM, sounds like you flashed an incompatible mod.
You should still be able to get into bootloader, though. Try again, then drop into recovery and reflash ARHD.
thanks for getting back to me,
Yeh i think it must be an incompatability.
Nope sorry cant access bootloader or fastboot, the phones charge has now died too.

Is it going back to displaying the white HTC screen when it bootloops? If so, keep the volume down key held before it loops and it should go into bootloader.
I'm at work now so I can't test this but I will do when I get home, thanks for the suggestion.
If this works, what do I need to do next?
PS: The phone has NO charge, any way I can charge it?
Thank you

HOX bricked help to flash (no ROM in sd card)

ok i got my phone bricked since i change some fonts ¬¬ yeah its stupid but its done, my htc stays in HTC ONE X splash screen
1.- i already did wipe cache & dalvik (i dont want to try full restore yet)
2.- i cant access to the SD card to put the ROM.zip into it
any idea on how to bring it to life again?? (without losing data)
ok i did a full reset and now its showing only ANDROID label (splash screen) and thats all u.u still bricked, any idea????
is there any way to flash from PC i mean having ROM on PC i dont have it on my HTC
flash lastest clockworkmod and you can mount USB from recovery, copy rom and install as normal.
Sent from my Transformer TF101
@vorticalbox tweet me
what the latest version i got 5.8.4.0 i think this is the latest but i dont know hot to mount USB :/
Yep that's the latest version. Flash it via fastboot:
Put the recovery.img in your fastboot folder and rename it to "recovery.img", then open a command prompt and:
cd..
cd..
cd fastboot
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Now extract the boot.img from the ROM you want to flash on your PC, and copy it to your fastboot folder and:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then boot into recovery and:
Go to mounts and storage
Choose Mount USB Storage
Copy ROM to your phone
Factory reset
Wipe Dalvik cache
Choose Zip from SD Card
Flash Rom
Reboot and enjoy
If this doesn't work, you'll have to boot into flastboot mode and run the RUU for your phone.
Either way, it's not 'BRICKED'.
Just make sure your battery doesn't go below 30% before you fix it or it will be much more difficult to recover (but not impossible).
It's impossible to totally brick an S-ON One X as whatever happens, you can always get into fastboot mode.
Guys i have problem too. I flashed boot.img with kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1967897 via this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1962428

Dudes, when its stuck in start up logo doesn't mean its bricked. It's bricked when you can't turn it on or go into bootloader. Please don't use "bricked" to describe every problem you encounter please.

That is true. What's more I was stupid enough to flash kernel to totally different phone (One XL). Luckily my stupidity was spared this time.
I hope OP will repair his phone too.
Like I said, it's pretty much impossible to 'BRICK' an S-ON device.
What about If you flash a Ron intended for a different phone, doesn't this change the layout of system positions? Or I'm just being stupid and you need s-off to mess things up like that?

Flash the newest CWM Recovery. Or any recovery with that you can use the option "advanced restore". Now Backup your Rom> wipe everything> restore>advanced restore>restore data only
Here you go

OK, I am trying to help my sister with her HTC 1X. It will not turn on whatsoever. I hold down the power button, nothing. I hold down the power and one of the volume buttons (up or down), nothing. I hold down the power button and both of the volume buttons, nothing.
I have hooked it up to my laptop because I was able to find some drivers for the device and some files that will allow me to root it, should I be able to get the phone to do anything. Anyway, the only thing I get is a message from Windows saying that the device has malfunctioned and that I should disconnect it and reconnect it or replace the device.
I've scanned through several of the threads but cannot seem to find anyone with as legitimately bricked a 1x as my sister has. I am used to rooting and ROMing Samsung devices and thought I would lend a hand by trying to help out with this HTC device but I cannot get it to even show up in MY Computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I was afraid she was going to have to send it back to HTC. What really stinks is that she's only had the phone for 35 days at this point. Started having problems a couple of days ago and ATT doesn't seem to want to do diddly.
Anyway, thanks for the response!
No worries. Pls let us know the outcome. Good luck.
