Continuing on the Tampa thread, I just noticed it driving around St Pete along US 19. 12Mbps was max download. No coverage in Lealman and spotty in Pinellas Park. Right now, using sensorly app, I am about a mile away from the LTE coverage in Pinellas Park.

I was really pissed when I found out Sprint Discontinued WIMAX expansion, like a month after I bought my phone.
And no phones that support both Wimax and LTE, but they just fired up the LTE Network in the North Bay Area 101 Corridor.
So I bought the GN2 outright

Finally LTE in NYC
Finally on Christmas my note 2 and galaxy s3 saw there first signs of LTE. In harlem from 145th street on the west side down to 72nd on the west side I had a strong signal. Hopefully ill get some in brooklyn soon.
I was in Pg Country Maryland and got a glimpse of LTE.. It popped up for a second and went away.. I've heard others have had lte in DC.. So it's looking good for my area.. Can't wait

Yeah, the sensorly map shows almost zero coverage except the Lutz and Wiregrass mall area.
I took a different route to work. Instead of driving up US 19, I drove up 49th Street North. Coverage is real strong for about 2-3 miles then zero coverage in Pinellas Park even though sensorly shows coverage along Park BLVD. I was pulling 30Mbps+ while moving at 45mph. Then it hit 3G and I was surprise to get close to 1Mbps.
If the Sensorly map isn't showing coverage in an area where you are getting 4g make sure and run Sensorly in that area. I usually hit map trip so it runs in the background too. Then when I am done I hit stop trip. The details screen will show you the number of points waiting to upload to the server.

Hi everyone,
I just bought the Gallaxy note 2 GT-N7105T with Vodafone AU branding.
It says its LTE 4G(1800,2600) but when im in a LTE Zone(2600) it only says H+ on it when on the internet......Does this device show LTE or H+ when in a LTE Zone?
I am using a different carrier SIM(Telstra) in the Vodafone branded phone.(Vodafone here has not launched its 4G yet),..could it be software related due to the launch delay?...
How do i re brand it to Telstra AU ?....do i need to root the phone or can i simply download the file to sd card and re flash it?
Does anyone have the latest Telstra AU File?
Thanks....Im abit dissapointed that i cannot se 4G on it...so i want to fix it because i love the phone.
..i am right in the middle of a 4G zone so i know the signal is strong (i tried it in my other HTC 4G phone which shows LTE on it)

Heads up, Sprint customers: CEO Dan Hesse has just announced the first markets that'll be gifted with*LTEfrom the Now Network. As per the official*@SprintTwitter account, the first cities with Sprint LTE coverage will be Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, all of which are expected to be lit up by the middle of the year. Those markets will be seeing some 3G network upgrades as well.Sprint*announced*way back in October that it would official make the move from WiMAX to LTE for its 4G network, saying that it planned to begin rolling out LTE coverage by mid-2012, so it sounds like the carrier's transition to LTE is going smoothly so far. It's not yet clear exactly when the residents of Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio will be riding the Sprint LTE airwaves or if any other markets will be joining them by midyear, but more details should be revealed as we dive deeper into 2012. Stay tuned.

I'm surprised there isn't more chatter about Sprint's LTE plans on this forum. I think the success or failure of the NV program will make or break this phone, and Sprint itself. For sure it affects my own decisions about both. The timing will be critical.
p.s. I second the recommendation about the s4gru.com site. It is must reading for anyone who cares about the Sprint rollout, and who wants to make an informed choice. There is also a deep font of knowledge there about RF stuff.

I agree 100%. The rollout of NV & LTE is the crux of Sprint as a network thus far. Def going to be a make or break time for Sprint in the next few quarters, especially with regard to timing. They need to make a significant impact, and soon.

Metro areas that had "sufficient" 3G coverage were automatically skipped through the first and sometimes second pass of LTE implementation.
Squeakiest wheels got the grease first, is what I've heard and read.
Incidentally, don't be too upset about this, as LTE (from personal experience) has not been all that great anyway. I've been in Chi, Miami/Ft.Laud, DC and Baltimore and only in one of those markets (frigging Baltimore of all places!!) was I getting better than 11Mbps down and better than 6Mbps up (i got 17Mbps down, 10Mbps up). Both DC and Miami/Ft.Laud were marginally slower than my home WiFi which is typically around 10Mbps down and 6Mbps up, and Chicago was absolutely pathetic all three times I've been there since Feb, coming in roughly on par with Philly-area HSPA+/4G.
Incidentally, my experience has been with this phone as well as my Note i717, both top-end devices.
Plus, remember that even a strong LTE signal (let alone a weak one, god forbid....) will drain the piss out of your battery, a heck of a lot quicker than good old fashioned HSPA+.
Just my $.02.

Proud owner of a new Galaxy III, but not so happy about the connection speeds. I live near Trinity University in the heart of San Antonio.
When I am in CDMA only mode, the phone connects at 800Kbps - 1 Mbps. When I switch to CDMA/LTE mode and reboot the phone, the connection speed ranges between 58Kbps (not a typo) and about 1100 Kbps. The 3G/4G light stays on 3G, though I briefly saw a flash of 4G.
What the heck is up with this? I upgraded to the phone partly because of the press coverage that attended the LTE roll-out in San Antonio. Is this a software problem? Is it a coverage problem?
If anyone else in Central San Antonio can post their connection speeds, I would be grateful. Also, if there is anything I can do to *force* the phone into 4G mode, that would be good to know.
Thanks!
Aaron

Absolutely. The radio alone helps. I wonder though if it has anything to do with San Antonio having so many hills and changes in altitude? Either way, cn is correct. S.A. only has 15% complete but that is prolly more like 20% now. When LTE does connect, it is no joke.

Hi folks -- I have been meaning to circle back to correct my original posting. Although LTE reception is not very good inside my house, it is fantastic in most other parts of San Antonio. I have checked in Olmos Park, in the Quarry, in the Rim, etc., and have consistently seen 4G speeds above 10Mbps. Usually, it is closer to 15Mbps. There are some dead spots when data services drop out completely, but -- for the most part -- it is a strong and powerful signal.
Since I'm always quick to give Sprint (and other providers) grief when their service is lacking, I want to make sure I give them credit where credit is due. This phone and the new LTE network are super fast.
Thanks!
Aaron

Thanks for the update. Out of curiosity, have you installed Sprint's OTA update to v LG8? It is supposed to include more "optimized" LTE connection software. The previous versions (LG2 and below) were believed to set the threshold for LTE signal strength too high, so it was difficult to get and keep an LTE connection. This would only magnify problems caused by the relatively thin tower coverage in newly launched LTE markets such as San Antonio, Houston, etc.
Just picked up the phone. I'm looking good on 4g at I10 and De Zavala

So after years of being curious as to where the towers where for my sprint service, but never curious enough to actually try to find it, after reviewing my sprint bill I saw the link on the sprint page about service issue and location of towers.
I thought you guys may find this site useful. Those of you on sprint and having network issue.

After reading what you wrote I couldn't resist and check the site. I was getting 10 meg download before they completed their capacity upgrade and data speed up grade. Now my 4g speed has dropped to 700K. Tower is 1/4 mile from my house. Thanks sprint :banghead::banghead:

told u their coverage maps show that i have 4g coverage guess what no 4g coverage untill the main street a mile or 3 away
oneword
falseadvertising
lol not really
There's actually a website out there that shows every single tower out there (or the majority of it) including location, owner, etc.
Can't be pressed to find it but it's out there and if you find it then you can check around you for any towers. It's interesting seeing how much towers from multiple carriers are spread out around your area.

Chalk up another one to your group of not aware people. I knew the coverage map but not this tower locator. Pretty helpful to be able to verify the drop zones of Sprint. So helpful I'm going to put a bookmark on my home screen to ease my frustration. Unlimited data takes the pain off the bite whenever my phone isn't working because of data loss.
Neat, thanks for this didn't know about it. My service blows  check out 97501

My house is just a bit North of the center of that map. I get 6 bars, but cap out at 20KB/S.
Usually I get 6 or less. Thank God for wifi.
Thanks for sharing. I got two towers about less than 1 mile away. Lol. I get 4-6 bars with.....

Old result list, but these were taken with 6 bars in the center of those 3 towers on the map.

Ironically, those were typical speeds in Phoenix until recently.

Folks - read the legend carefully. It appears that map only shows towers that are, or will be upgraded.
If you switch views to 'show coverage area' you end up with Sprints 'optimistic color map showing coverage just about everywhere (eg a lie); yet even that map chooses to indicate some new and future towers.
In summary, I don't think there's a view that comprehensively shows all towers, let alone distinguishing which towers have 4G coverage.
If I'm missing something or someone knows of an alternative site, please let me know.

I somehow can connect to 4g in my area, even though sprint says there is no 4g in my area. 12084
Mine is 78109 however, what is shows and what I get are two totally different things, I should be rocking but half the time my 3G is faster and more reliable than my 4G. I know they are in the proccess of removing a lot of the WiMax in my area and replacing them with LTE.
This can't include any other company's towers. I live in 48189, and get pretty good service 2-3 bars (not great, but servicable) , but my brother lives in 48350 and gets garbage, but has more towers that are closer, and has only 0-1 bars.
If you are in a non deployed market and get wimax then you're connecting to a protection Site. These are just there to fulfill fcc build out requirements and will not be upgraded like most wimax sites
As of now. Clear wire is reportedly upgrading wimax Site backends to support tdlte. If you get wimax in a launched market then you'll probably get Clear wire tdlte.
