When I would take pics through the snap seed app, edit the pic, and finally save the picture, finally view it in stock gallery app it would not let me view the picture. Instead it will attempt to open the file as a video, but when I use file explorer I could see the saved file has an extension as .jpg. I have already deleted the cache, reinstalled gallery app. This problem will also happen when I would receive a beam.
it appears to be a software problem. Even if I download a picture off of the browser, the gallery wants to open it as a video, but it has a clear visible extension of jpeg.
Are you using Cyanogenmod? This issue is fixed in the 26th nightly.

the other day i was playing around with htc albums. this app uis what i primarily use to view pics and vids. in fact it it linked to the camera app as the app that is used to view picture that you would take.
anyways, i somehow got this to show me every picture on my phone which i thought was nice and interesting, bad thing is that now every time i open this app it shows all the pics on my "device" and storage card and they are all mixed up. i want this to be like it used to be, it used to juts show the pics i have taken with the camera....
i tried to change the "favorite album" but it goes right back to showing all my pics even thumbnails in the opera temp folder
please advise
well i figured what was causing this, and the fix.
apparently booting to android causes something, prolly android, to create a thumbnails folder within my dcim folder
and it seems to make a thumbnail of all the pics it can find and drop them in this folder. it will even make thumbnails or thumbnails
this also explains why some of the pix i was taking with the cam looked like crap, because i was viewing thumbnails
fix: delete this thumbnail folder, but it will come back as soon as i boot android
just thought i'd share
I have 2 random photo albums in my gallery which I can't delete. Instant uploads and scrapbook photos. I don't want these. 1 has a random photo in it I never took and the other is empty. How can I delete them, I can't find a way to delete! Most annoying!

Hello,
Instant uploads is the photo album created by Google+ and I must say it's pretty decent. It uploads (if you agree at the setup) your pics to G+ and stores them for you. No one can see them, you have to decide if you want to publish them. You can delete it from G+ account on your PC (haven't tried from mobile).
Second one is either another G+ photo album, or one from Picasa? Try Picasa Web Albums to see if it's there.
Cheers

I flashed Viscous JB Rom to my Verizon GNEX, and everything went relatively well. The only issue was the gallery wasn't working. I could only see local storage, not my picasa/google+ web albums. I did some searching and found gapps "JRO03C GApps Package 08/11/12". It claimed to fix the gallery and it sort of did. Now I can see my picasa/google+ web albums, but for whatever reason, I can't do anything with the photos beyond viewing them. If I try to edit them using aviary for example, it says, "Cannot download photo at this time". If I try upload them to facebook or instagram, the app just does nothing upon selecting the photo. It appears to be a problem with the URI used to fetch the photo, but I'm not even sure of that. Our nexus 7 tablet is running the exact same version of gallery as i flashed, and it can do any of those functions flawlessly, so I don't think its the gallery version (1.1.40000). Is there a separate photo picker in android that I can flash somehow? Any suggestions? Upload works fine. This is a big problem for me because I have thousands of photos in my picasa web albums and use them pretty regularly.

I have the exact same problem, have you found a solution?
I have some photos in my SD card which showed up properly in the gallery before. However, all those photos don't show up after I flashed a new Rom. Only photos taken after flashing are showed in the gallery. I tried to reboot, wipe cache, rescan media but nothing success.
Any one can help?

Yes, because different Roms use different folders for gallery. Just take a picture and browse your card and see where it puts it (somewhere in DCIM folder). After locating the folder just move the photos from old folder to the new one where your picture was taken and you should now see all your photos.(Some roms put pictures in folder named "100Andro", other in "pictures", "images", "camera".....

Yes, I toke a testing picture, located the new folder "Camera" and move all old photos to there. But still just the testing picture is shown up. All moved old pictures are still missing in the gallery. Already reboot to renew the media library.
Can you try using a 3rd party pic viewer I use quickpic, which seems to work well.

You should try Rescan Media in google play.

Thanks. I also used quick pic and it loads all pictures. But I prefer SE stock gallery as there is a geo map function, so wanna sort out a solution.

try some of these
- clear all defaults for the gallery app
- clear all data
- take out and put back in sd card
- make another gallery app the default and then reboot, clear defaults and revert default back to the stock gallery app
When I open the gallery app it is grabbing all the photos I have there this is a major issue for me because I have over 1300 books with covers and I have thousands of photos saved in my dropbox account. This is causing my gallery to be extremely slow.
Is there a place in settungs I can limit what gallery looks at? Or do I need to go to each folder and put .nomedia file in each folder.

go to gallery app, click options, click view by and from there you can choose which accounts to have or not to have inside your gallery. just disable dropbox, picasa etc. and you will see the speed back to normal. hope this helps.
