I will say that this is one of the ONLY phones that I ever thought about NOT romming but I doubt I will be able to hold back if something really good comes out...Hello, I am Justin, I am a flashaholic!
GOTTA have root access though... Can't have any company telling me what I HAVE to keep on my phone! :good:
My exact same thoughts. I only rooted to get rid of the bloat. Quick question though. ... im a little nervous... would I still be able to update if tmobile decides to push one even though im rooted?

I hope not to also but when a new version of android comes out and no update from the carrier then flashing seems like the only option..
Cm10 with S pen functionality is that possible?
Should get rid of CarrierIQ at least =/

Deff agree on that one. But alas, i will miss alot of the OG functions from touchwiz on this phone. Although with GN1, they found work arounds for it. Especially S Note.
My plan is to root as late as I can to avoid messing things up. I figure we won't see an update for a few weeks and by then all the bugs that come along with rooting a phone should be worked out. I really enjoy this phone and can, surprisingly, wait on rooting.

I know when I rooted that if I go to check for a software update it says it won't do it on a modified device so I am pretty sure we won't get OTA's through the rooted devices but you can just wait for someone to post the updated OTA and flash that and your good to go!
Or do you still have stock recovery?
Only rooted for bloat and spyware removal and a nice kernel. But im only flashing stock TW based roms!

The post is not ment to see which rom is better! There are now 7 or 8 roms for our device, I don't want to flash all of them then figure out that the one I was using was best for my needs. That's why the dev puts the features in the op. So you can see if you want to flash. Then if you read a Page or two of the posts you can see what people are saying about it. Basically all rooms are the same at this point. Some just have extra mods or are themed. Try one... or two. Every one had different uses and preferences. So what I say is the best you may hate.

I would doubt it. The s-pen is a Samsung thing. AOSP doesn't support it. I THINK the guys working on a CM10 port here are trying to make it work though. I guess it will have to be some kind of CM10/Samsung Franken-ROM. lol
Been switching between Jedi and clean roms... Both are great roms. Been running jedi 6.1.2 for the last two days and have to say i love it. But i will be checking out clean rom 3.3 soon to see how it runs.
Jedi all the way.. It's a smooth and stable daily driver with everything you will need to get the most out of your Note 2

Using Jedi X6.1.2 and have not seen a flaw.... I like to play around with different roms usually but it will take some miracle to move me off this one. Best of all worlds... using nova launcher touch wiz features and spen heavily. Happy guy here
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
I tried Jedi rom first because I do not want to mess around with glitches and want as stable of a rom as possible that gives me the features I want. I will go into a rom thread and check the date of the OP's last update. Then I jump to that date in the thread and start reading about the latest release to see what people's opinions are. Everyone loved the Jedi rom and now I do to. There is not a single thing I can find that doesn't work with it. It is fast, stable and had the multi window feature that has not been released on my AT&T phone yet. Although flashing can be fun, I don't want to keep flashing all the time, so I want to be as stable as possible. Jedi for the win.
The only thing I didn't like about Jedi was the branding text on the bottom of the notification drawer and the lock screen. Anyway to turn those off?

I don't like it too. Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1929217 make a backup!
I started with CleanROM but ended up switching to Jedi as well. Been running it since 3.1 and now I'm on 6.1.2. Very stable, great performance, can't find any excuse to flash another.
I'm sticking with stock unrooted with Nova launcher. I've spent way too many hours rooting/unrooting and flashing roms on my last two Android phones (SII Skyrocket & SIII) only to find out each rom had glitches. Stock has great battery life, works with the S-pen, and just works as it should.
That's what im doing but having a hard time not flashing or rooting !!!! I may have a breakdown soon lol

So I have flashed many roms on my nexus. The last being xylon. That and purity ak kernel did great for a long time. After awhile with every ROM though it began getting laggy and started having FCS . I decided that I was going to restore my backup. While I was debating what ROM to flash next I couldn't help but notice how stable and snappy my stock backup was. If you can do without customization the stock ROM really is nice. No disrespect to the developers.

I can second that. Flashing is very addictive, I update all major custom roms whenever new build is released but eventually I restore my stock backup. The only feature from custom roms I really miss is t9 dialer. I don't like third party dialers from market. I tried to fix it by myself, never successful though. I like the smoothness of our stock which is unfortunately little affected by deodexing in our beloved custom roms. That's the price of customization / theming.
Yeah, since JB the stock image was always smoother. Plus it's flash and forget, in the custom ROM's you're always wondering what's new.

I agree with having root for blocking adds. Adaway ftw!
I myself am getting sick of flashing roms...something always happens when ya either update the rom or custom kernel.. Love the snappy feel of stock everything is so smooth.
But i have to say stock + root + nova launcher with all animations off for faster the light speed = Beastly. Only reason i cant go back to stock is because my my volume down key doesnt work after breaking when replacing the usb port.
So i cant take screenshots and ive tried all different types of screenshot apps and they all suck. So im loving aokp's option of adding the screenshot button to my navbar it really beats the option having it in the power option because ya can take screenshots of ya toggles if need be etc.
Anyway yeah as soon as i get my hands on the n4 thats when ill be running stock + root + launcher i think.

If you purchased a GNex, and are an XDA member, I guess I can't see the reason why you'd keep the phone stock. Lag, the occasional FC, etc. will still occur even on stock; normal maintenance and a few tweaks minimize these regardless of custom or stock.
Admittedly, there's a good case to be made for slowing down the # of flashes during a day/week/month. Typically, there are two types of flashers: those who flash for aesthetics/customization, and those who flash for noticeable gains in performance, batt. life, features. Fortunately, there are developers on XDA who cater to both groups....some even pleasing both groups @ the same time. More often than not, however, there is a lull between Android releases, which produces more ROMS geared towards customization. This contributes to the "bored" factor, and ultimately, threads such as these.
With no disrespect to the OP, if you're content with stock, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, and stock+root on the GNex is more than capable of providing a good Android experience. But, holding this phone, and subscribing to these forums leads one to the assumption that you're @ the very least CURIOUS about opening up the possibilities of this phone's capabilities.
I just came to the Sprint galaxy s3 after using HTC devices for the last decade, and the EVO series for the last two phones. I'm looking for a nice smooth ROM with a stockish feeling and a performance boost. I don't mind Touchwiz as I still learning the in's and out's of a Samsung phone. I have already rooted using the toolkit.
So can anyone give me any suggestions?
There's very many TW based ROMs in the dev section, make a nandroid and start flashing . Personally I am stock MC3 (4.1.2 Premium Suite) with an over clocked kernel and am loving it! I have not found a 100% stock (but modified) TW ROM yet, most that I find have apps missing, slightly themed, different launcher etc etc. But flash some and have fun. Figuring out what you like is the joy of flashing.

I first ran CM based ROMS and then FreeGS3 for a while but they always seemed to slow down and start developing issues after a few weeks. The Peoples ROM has not given me a single issue since install. LOVE IT!
MOAR or TPR.

One thing youll love about this device over the htcs is that if you REALLY bork things up, you can easily flash the stock rooted tar in odin to get it back to where you were before you started tinkering. Its like running the RUU on htc devices, but leaves it rooted so you dont hafta start all over with the root process. oh, and the root method is stupid easy on galaxy devices!!!
