[Q] loses sound during calls / voice replaced by robotic beeps  - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi there,
I just received my Note 2 and on several occasions while I'm on a regular call (not wifi calling) I will lose the sound and just hear some sort of robotic beeps, as if someone was just hitting the microphone. The person on the other end can hear me fine. Activating / deactivating the speaker seems to bring the sound back although it might be a coincidence. Does this sound like a defective device to you guys?

You are probably using the Jedi rom. You can change the ringtone in settings.
Sidenote: You posted in the wrong section.

Thanks for the answer. It actually mutes the caller and does some r2d2 noises instead in the middle of the call, but on a serious note, the phone is still 100% stock.
I'm unsure where to post, I am not allowed to post in dev.

I think it is tmobile's network getting stupid every so often.
I had the same thing on my Galaxy S III and S II
My company has a Bunch of Samsung Galaxy phones and we were all takling about this the other day.
Doesn't seem to be device specific.

Bluetooth + Voice Talk + Missed Call = Problem

Hey guys, so I am using my headset to activate Samsung Voice Talk by holding my BT button for 2 sec which works great! The problem is that when I have a missed call, Samsung Voice Talk will keep notifying me even though I've already cleared notification and even viewed the call log! WTF! I have to actually delete missed call so clear the notification! Any advice???
Stop using voice talk

What do I use then? I can't set default to Google Voice Search
I want to say that the bluetooth quality is terrible. I'm using the brand new jabra sports too.

Do you think it is specific to your device (jabra sport) or a problem with the phone. Is it bad enough to change your opinion/review of the epic touch ?

I don't have any problems with hearing people / them hearing me. I use BT530 by Jabra. I'd try Plantronics Savor M1100 before complaining about bluetooth.

I'm going to be doing a lot of testing with these Jabra Sports. I'm actually reviewing them because they were just announced. But I was listening to Pandora on my E4T with WiFi on, and the quality was terrible. I'm going to test them with other devices just to ensure if it is the E4T or the Sports.
I am having the same annoying issue with Samsung Galaxy SII ATT, so it looks like a software glitch...makes using voice dialing etc... ridiculous......I have to delete the missed call from the log to get it to stop announcing it.
lol, after a while you just get used to it. Waiting for fix... patiently...NOT!!!
Same problem.. help?

Volume+ (Sound Boost) temp anecdote for low speaker volume issue!!

The exact search term is " Volume+ (Sound Boost) " in the android market . You can copy & paste that into the android market search field minus the quotation marks. The free version doesn't have sound boost in it's title and the volume level won't go up high enough. In preferences in the app, you need to be able to select somewhere between 8-10. Too low, nothing and too high doesn't work either.
Very important, when you download the app for the first time, there is quick one time visual tutorial. Do everything exactly what it says to do, if not, won't work. If you can take screen shots of the directions, your better off. After that one time, you would have to un—install and than re—install to see it again. It only comes up right after the initial install.
The only variance is your volume number in the preferences . Test, if it's working, by listening to the preset ring tones in the system settings of the phone.
I was afraid, that I might of had to exchange the phone because the speaker volume was so bad. This app makes a significant difference.

You can get the full version for free from the developers site which has a link in the Market page of the lite version.
I keep mine set on 10 and it gives me the perfect volume.
It's the way the phone should have come.....
I am surprised samsung or google have not rectified this with the last 2 ota updates.

10 makes a difference but isn't there a chance of blowing the speaker by doing this or are we safe?

Help!
By any chance do you remember the steps? I just bought the app but accidently pressed the back button on the tutorial part. Is there anyway to go back to it?

yeah the voice is still like that in 4.0.2 (usa/lte); almost feel guilty about using navigation, sounds like the poor woman is getting tortured; I run it through my car speakers so it's loud of enough
thanks guys it helps alot

FYI there is an updated version at developers site 1.8.0.6 that adds ability to view the tutorial on demand.
I bought V+ and it helped with some of the settings, but not all. I rooted the phone as well. I might be returning it. It is a big disappointment.
Has anyone tried this with a bluetooth headset? I tried and am not getting any results. Tried "Headset" and tried "Bluetooth" settings, separately and together.

Do you do that natively with a bluetooth head unit. I have a car with bluetooth head unit and when I make a call and I'm using Nav at the same time it plays the Nav through the speakers....otherwise it doesn't.
Wondering if I can do likewise so any information would be greatly received.
Thanks

Sound in speaker in silent mode.

I hear the faint noise / buzz / snap the speaker even when I have silent mode enabled, anyone else who has or had?
Solution? Hardware or Software?
Please post questions in the Q&A sections.

When do you hear this noise? Always, or when you are receiving an incoming call?

When I press the screen to launch an app or make a selection from some menu.
And I can have the phone vibrate or silent, is the same in both cases.
I have 2 Gnex (Maguro), my oldest I have to put your ear against the speaker to hear this, but on my brand new sound is very clear.
Exact like this-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfeyLN7pWRA&list=PLB9F7946C16BE343B&index=19&feature=plpp_video
I see. Odd thing. Cannot reproduce it with my gnex. I don't have any advice on this one, sorry.

Same sort of thing happens when you lock your lockscreen.
There's about ~1 second of static after the actual lock sound (or alone if you have the phone on silent).
It's been around since the GNex came out. Nothing bothersome to me at all, really.
I can see how this could annoy someone, however.

On my new GN (bought 8/8-2012) is quite high sound coming in silent mode.
On my old GN heard only very weakly.
Should be a software problem.

[Q] how to stop speaker notifications when headset in?

Anyone figure this out yet? My one main annoyance with the phone is this....
In CM10 there is an option for silent when connected to a2dp and headphones. guessing aokp is the same.

Was hoping for more of something along the lines of still hearing notifications in headphones but not on speaker

That's what it does. It silences the handset speaker (if chosen) while connected to headset or a2dp. It just gives you the choice to silence the handset or choose vibrate.

I am also plagued by this problem but I cannot find any such option. Using CM10 A7.
Also if anybody knows a way to make the lowest volume quieter, everybody can hear my calls even on the lowest volume!
:bump:
sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I'm running CM10 stable on a Verizon GSIII, and cannot for the life of me find the option to stop speaker notifications when headset is plugged in. Is it not available on the Verizon version?

MUTE does NOT work!!

Has anyone run into this? I just noticed that mute does not work on the Note 2. I was on a conference call for work in a noisy environment and people were complaining about noise... I didn't care because I "knew it wasnt me" since it said I was muted - sure neough when I said "you guys can't hear me can you?" they said "yes"
Is this another Samsung buff on the release? No Mute! Let me know if you guys have the same problem.
Just tested it with my mom and mute worked. We both have Notes and mute worked both ways with and without speaker phone.

Mine must be defective - I tested it again just now and the person heard me fine.
