newbie here to all this..
last week I finally rooted my DHD to turn s-on to s-off and after days of reading post after post I finally got it done, anyway whilst doing this it has now downgraded my phone software to an older version. 2.3.3 sense 2.1
can someone point me in the right direction to where I can download the stock updated rom for this phone or is there a custom rom that's even better than the stock one that I could use.? ive been looking in the Android Development section but there's way too many to go through & I don't want anything to fancy just stock HTC looking will do just great.. plus I don't want to run the risk of bricking the phone as im very new to this sort of thing so can do without trying different roms out as I was happy with the HTC look of the phone... and is it easy to upgrade as its taken me near on a week of reading to find the b*lls to root it.. LOL
thanks for any help..

Best thing if you want Stock ROM is Android Revolution HD, BEST stock based ROM (Sense 3.0, 2.3.5 Gingerbread)
Although you might like to experiment with other Android versions, like AOSP (exactly as Google intended it), AOKP (slightly modified), CyanogenMod (Different thing altogether) or even MIUI (if you like the iPhone's simplicity)

I have a rooted HTC desire, running on froyo 2.2, with custom rom, I used Unrevoked 3, I also unlocked my phone. I thought after doing all this I would get all of the Orange bloatwear off, this is very frustrating can any one help, or am I being a trifle dense?
You need a custom ROM based on either stock Sense or AOSP, there are plenty about so go take a look in the Development forum
Your poll makes no sense, btw

you say you're already using a custom rom - did you wipe before flashing?
and +1 for the poll making no sense.
Apologies for the poling this is 1st time post, I'm the oldest virgin blogger in town
Seriously, thanks for the suggestion I'll try the stock rom and post back tommorrow thanks for the help.
Hi guys. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how do I install the 2.3 Android while i have the 2.2? Where to download and how to install it?
You can't as it's currently for the Nexus S and soon to be the Nexus One
You can get a cutom made 2.3 ROM by looking at Oxygen in the ROM forum
Thanks. Well since I don't know the risks of "rooting" or installing custom roms, I want to ask you: is it worth it? Do I lose my phones warranty?
At this point the risk of rooting is minimal (but still there is a risk) and there are good tutorial you can use. Especially this one: Turkeys' Ultimate Guide to Root Desire.
Technicality you lose your warranty when you root your phone but there are ways to revert that. However that is not possible on every phone and depends on the branding and software version.
There is some great development on the gingerbread roms, but they don't full work jet, so at this point I would not root my device just for a gingerbread rom.
On the other hand there are also enough other great froyo roms to try out.
But first thing to do is write down your software info and check if you can find a matching RUU here.
Hi all genius guys,
I got htc dhd running android 2.3. It's not rooted yet. I like to root my phone if it's safe so, I love to test the new sense 3.0. I was wondering how should I root my phone that running android 2.3. Is the new sense 3.0 stable on htc dhd. Can I back up my current ROM and can I recover it back to it's original state incase any problem occurs.
Hope It's making sense. since I don't know much about android.
Many Thanks
Hey, welcome
Have a look here

Second post has a lot of links and info you would need
quick question do you know if you're dhd is vers 2.3.7? If so no root as yet...
Otherwise follow info above , you're apps etc stay with google, so make sure you sync.
You can back up sms , browse the market for that one.
Returning to stock is not too hard, you can find stock ruu's within xda to bring you back to ground...
Most of all read up well , spend some time and then attempt rooting you're phone so as to have a little understanding.
Sense 3.0 is great, you have lots of choices , try 'unity' , very promising, and good support there , personally looking into ' beatmod flyersense' a port of the flyer rom.
Anyway that should get you started.

That's ok , I found it difficult to begin with and it helps if someone can guide you along , if I come across a 2.37 exploit, I'll post it here so you can see , will save you searching all over for it.

Thanks steeveeo I hope the xda pro guys come up with new exploit.
Hello all,
I like many others, I have installed the new GB ROM from the RUU supplied by HTC and it is "OK". However, i would like something else.
I have seen many guide to install ROMS and it seems more or less clear.
My problem, and maybe the problem for other noobs if the fact that there are so many ROMs out there. It is difficult to know which one to take.
For example, I am looking for plain old stock android 2.3 for the desire. No sense, no extra HTC apps. Just what google would have on the nexus 1. But, I cant figure out which ROM fits that.
Any ideas?
What would be great is sticky which lists the ROMs and their main features for all us noobs. Unless there is one already and I didnt see it
Get Oxygen Rom mate its nice and basic , if u want to go too basic get DevNull
But for starters i think u shud go with oxygen
Pm me if u want to discuss any other details

Well, if you installed official Gingerbread 3.14.405.1 RUU, you can't get root (yet). No root means that you can't install custom rom.

watch the video tutorial too - but it sounds like you want an AOSP rom
Yup, you definitely wanna try Oxygen + it was recently updated to Android 2.3.5.
It's sense free, all bloatware removed, very fast & minimalistic.
http://forum.oxygen.im/viewtopic.php?id=149 (it wasn't updated on XDA yet, but you can download it from there)
CyanogenMod7 will also fit you.
Should have read into what you were doing before you updated. You can't root now, which means no custom ROMs for you. HTC updated HBOOT so no more rooting for the time being. You're stuck with it till someone cracks it. Unlucky dude.
My recommendation:
Sense (2.1+3.0) : InsertCoin 1.0.9
AOSP: Oxygen
no MIUI from me...sorry..
Thanks for all the replies. I am pretty sure it is only a matter of days or weeks at most until I can root. I recall the same situation last update.
It sounds like oxygen is the way to go. Once the root is available I will give it a shot. Thanks.
Hello again,
its been over four years since i was here last. had an HTC hero that came with 1.5 (those were the days). moved on to iphones but anyways.
Have a co-worker who is middle eastern and doesn't quite have a grasp on our language or all this rooting stuff so I came here to ask for him.
He has the acro S, build 6.2.b.1.96 (i think i wrote it right) and I believe its on 4.1.2; he is looking for an an official/unofficial kitkat rom. does such a thing exist, i have browsed this site and all I see are custom ROMs (that's the norm) but he is convinced by rooting and loading a custom ROM that puts him at risk for some malicious files being added to his device by the creator of the ROM. he can't be convinced otherwise.
Also, if there is no stock kitkat rom that he can load, what is the next newest rom he can load ?
sorry for the ramble, thanks for the help, and if theres an easier way to root like a one-click job, id appreciate the insight.

No such thing im afriad. I make a few of the different ROMs here and if your friend is paranoid about people messing with the ROM and adding things that they shouldnt im afraid he has to stick with the 4.1.2 official version as that is the latest.
This also needs to be moved to the general section as it isnt a development thread.
He is on the latest stock ROM which Sony can provide.
If you want an one-click way, you can find some software do this. Otherwise here you can fellow:
1. Unlock your devices first. ( I think it's not unlock) ( https://sites.google.com/site/projectfreexperia/download/bootloader-unlock )
2. Find a 4.1.2 root kernel here.
3. Fastboot flash boot kernel_xxx.elf
Then I think it's OK.
