Hi... first of all, thanks in advance for everything that XDA foruns give to everyone...
I have locked bootloader (SIM Card locked by TMN - Portugal), on a R800i Xperia Play
I have downgraded to 2.3.2, rooted by ginger, OTA upgraded to 2.3.3 under UK generic 4.0.A.2.368 - all fine
Im rooted on 2.3.3, but OTA to 2.3.4 still didnt come out and i really want to try 2.3.4 whitout loosing root.
So, I read in that post, people saying its possible to root on Nordic 2.3.4 and my question is:
- Can I make the update to 2.3.4 using PCC, and then root using the metod on refered post? The meaning of this is to get the update via PC Companion, loose root, but gain it again when already updated in 2.3.4
I noob and cant post in development area...
Once again, thanks in advance
Even after an OTA update to v2.3.4, you'll be able to gain root again with the zergRush method.

Hey... this worked very well for me... Thanks a lot for everything.
I didnt have to wait on OTA, or unlock bootloader as well, so will share my experience for all off you still waiting on OTA:
- Used un-root option on gingerbreak in v2.3.3 (only by safe)
- Upgraded via PC Companion to v.2.3.4
- Did a factory reset and cleaned SD Card (only by safe)
- Used zergRush method to gain root
R800i TMN - Portugal
locked bootloader
v2.3.4 rooted
THANKS ONCE AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP... THANKS FOR XDA FORUNS EXISTING!!!

You have to downgrade to .42, and then use zerRush tool for make root.

and after the initial setup guide, my phone offered me to update it to 4.0.2.A.0.62.
And, I guess, if I want to root it, i shouldn't upgrade it?
i know, it's off topic, but, please help me, i bought it like two hours ago

Excatly. Keep the current version and root. .62 doesn't offer any significant advantages.
Hello. I also just got my Arc S, and updated it to .62, even before I thinked that I will maybe want to root it and uninstall blotware. So, can I downgrade to 58. or 42. and then root it? If, yes how can I do this?
Few more questions:
1.How can I check if I have locked or unlocket bootloader?
2.How to root ARC S with 58. or 42. firmware?
3.Can I unroot it after removing unnessesary apps?
Tnx for help, and sorry for bad English.
The simplest way to have root on .62 is while on .42(or if too late - downgrade to .42), root with flashtool, and update over the air. Root remains that way. Don't modify anything in system folder before the update, or it will fail.

1. If you didn't unlock, you are with locked bootloader
2. With flashtool is the easiest way
3. Why should you do that?

I don't think so...
And where do I find .42 firmware for Arc S? And it should work in Slovenia.
Can you give instructions on how to downgrade via flashtools, and how to root after that?
Tnx
Here's the .42 for central europe, it should work in Slovenia.

Download and install flashtool - http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
Put the phone in debug mode, start the program, plug the phone, wait to detect, select flash - flashmode and follow the instructions. Then root with flashtool, after restart. There are many threads on how to use flashtool, search.
THX All ... Waiting 4 root 4 .62..
Hi, again. So I downgraded to .42, rooted with Flashtool and OTA updated to 62. and root remained. But now I have unlocked the bootloader by fastboot, and Superuser icon in still in the menu and if I conect the phone to Flashtool it says "root access alowed". So did root remained, at unlocking the bootloader, or should I root it again.
Sorry for silly questions, and sorry for bad English.

just try it.
if you can access superuser(give root permission to specific app eg. root explorer, no frills cpu, etc) then you are rooted.
if you've unlocked BL, do not confirm OTA upgrade anymore!

Hello!
I want to downgrade too from .62 to .42 but i cant find the appropriate firmware. I'm from Romania, could the above "central europe" firmware work for me too? If not, could someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

I have a question, I rooted my Xperia Arc S with OneSuperClick.
Will updating to the new firmware unroot it? You mentioned that if it was rooted using FlashTool it would not unroot... what about this other tool I mention?
Thanks for any help in advance.

have u encountered this kinda problem?is there a solution?
i got to root phone
thx for ur time
If you got baseband .62or .69 you will not be able to
root using doomLord's zergrush method.
The only options are:
1. using flashtools downgrade to .42 then
root using zergrush
2. unlock bootloader then install a
custom kernel that is pre rooted.
if you search on the stickies all answers
are there. Both in general and dev
sections

No need to apologise, but instead of asking for what can be found in the stickys, read them.
Hi I am a noob and have tried 2 different ways of rooting, I am sick of being low on internal storage and need to make a partition on my sd card which requires my phone to be rooted! All of this is just stupid to me, it's a gaming phone WTF were they thinking with low internal memory?!?!
I just need the easiest way to root the my Xperia Play without any BS.
P.S. I have searched the board and all of it is outdated BS or BS that doesn't work.
You have to be on 2.3.3 firmware in order to root. Or flash a custom kernel with root preinstalled. Those are your only 2 options.

Ah I went to 2.3.4 for the Screenshot Feature, so would have to revert just to root and then have to stay at 2.3.3? The second option sounds simple enough and best.
And you have to be rooted to partition? Ah..was looking to get 64GB so if I have to be rooted.ahh, looks like its inevitable.
I zergrush rooted my phone and I'm on stock 2.3.4 and my firmware is 4.0.2.A.0.42

Yeah im on 2.3.7 rooted

All information can be found in the "About Us" in your phone menu
State your model, android version and your firmware like below:
Model: 800i
Android: 2.3.4
Firmware: 4.0.2.A.0.42
Model - R800x
Version - 2.3.4
Firmware - 4.0.2.E.0.57
Any help is appreciated! Maybe I should try the Zergrush way? I really don't wanna brick my phone and I have had 2 fails already :crying:
Edit: Oops I guess I need to download drivers from Flashtool before being able to root... (I think lol) Doing that now..
You can't root 2.3.4 you have to downgrade first to 2.3.3 to root then if your bootloader isn't unlocked you can up update it. But other than that there is no way to root 2.3.4.
Is there a way to make a partition on the SD Card for internal memory by unlocking bootloader or by any other means? I basically just want more internal memory. If I can do that without rooting great!

Yeah you can, I've done it. It has to be early 2.3.4, though. The 0.57 version that the OP has won't do it, but the 0.42 version I have worked. Didn't work the first time, and I couldn't get DoomLord's script to do it, but I got it using the 'Force zergrush' option in FlashTool. To get the 0.42 version that worked, I installed the R800a 2.3.3 firmware and let it OTA update to the 0.42 version of 2.3.4, then used the zergrush method.
But that is for GSM not for CDMA. 2.3.4. It can not be rooted while on it unless your boatloader is unlocked.
WOW I just took a couple more hours of research, and I rooted my 2.3.4 xperia play using that rooting software that I'm too lazy to link to in Chinese AND I haven't unlocked my bootloader either and it worked (which it seemed unlocking bootloader was important for a few ways to root), It would have worked in my first hour of researching rooting (first time looking up how to root ever), but I didn't download the drivers from flashtool until tonight (which took me a few minutes to research and figure out).
Ya'll are noobz lol WOW
But thanks!!!

and you should be able to root fine using Easy rooting toolkit (v4.0) created by DooMLoRD
Link Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859
This works on WINDOWS, Download DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip extract it using winzip/winrar go to the folder where its extracted plug your phone in using your usb cable then execute "runme.bat" in the folder that you extracted and follow the instructions on the screen
really simple...it will be done in seconds!
so... this is my second problem today, the first one was with the FTS, but no its woking~
The problem is the Root. Yeah, the root...
I have tried to root my device using this and others FTS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43935357&postcount=2
but dont know why, if i use, for example R800i_4.0.2.A.0.69_World.ftf or R800i_4.0.2.A.0.79.ftf, my device dont accept the root...
BUT, if i use :R800i_4.0.A.2.368_World and other lower version, he accept... anyone know what to do? i'm trying to use DoomLords root, tried every version... help, again!
EDIT: now that i have tihnk for a time... the stock rom that came with the xperia play, acepted the root, so, its 2.3.2? the only problem is that i dont remember some stuffs in the 2.3.2, so i thin it is only 2.3.3 that came with the xperia play whe i buy it...
Already solved the problem.
You can only root devices from 2.3.2 down...
The strange is that I tthink may xperia play came with 2.3.4 and I rooted it before it bricks in boot loop...

you can root 2.3.4 until version 58 (enhanced v3) with locked bootloader. just flash the ftf, boot, enable usb-debugging and mass storage device (instead of mtp at usb-connection) and root it via flashtool.
otherwise unlock your bootloader and install a superuser application in any rom you want. flash the latest firmware (.79), flash custom kernel, install supersu or superuser via cwm and you got the newest firmware rooted.
