From the G2X to the Galaxy 2

Im a tmo customer desperately trying to get rid of this g2x. Problem is tmo wants to charge me $540 for the phone, and my upgrade is nowhere near due. Is there ANY way I could somehow get this phone from tmo for the contract price ? any loop holes or something ?

any chance you can cancel your current contract? or transfer it to some body else in your family/friends perhaps?
then open a new contract new phone number, and get the SGS2
then swap the SIM card, and you are done

Not really. Otherwise everyone would do this every 6 months. Just sell the g2x and buy the gs2. You can get up to like 275 or so depending on condition. Subtract that from the retail of the gs2 and it's basically the same. Plus you can get them to split the payments up on your bill.

i was on the phone asking a rep about the split payments and she denied that they even do that. I always sells my phones on craigslist to upgrade, did it with the hero, evo, galaxy 1, g2x...but craigsloist is FLOODED with people selling the g2x i didnt post on it thinking i wouldnt be able to sell mine since there are so many postings. But thanks looks like i will have to just go the normal route. Thanks for the info.

She lied. I've done that with a bb9700,hd2 on contract,g2. They split it into 4 payments. The first you pay upfront with all sales tax included. So say 529+tax youd pay 132 or so plus the tax on 529 today. Then starting on your December bill, you'll have an extra 132 added to your bill the next 3 cycles. Essentially,your first payment delays a month of it being on your bill.
Also depends on credit I assume.

Check your acct on mytmobile. Somewhere on there it shows your credit limit. Act like your doing an upgrade, it's there somewhere. Good luck.

Yeah. Depends how you buy it I think. There's one way you can pay like 20/month. I've never done that though.

if you terminate your contract then theres early termination fees so that dont do you any good also.just put it on e-bay

You can only split you equipment into payments if you are on a value plan were you do not get and discount on the phone. They did away with it once value plans came out

you guys are swesome with the helpful info but what he said is right. I just spoke to a rep. She gave me the number to customer loyalty and told me they can offer me things cuzstomer service cat, so im going to try my luck and if not i'll just patiently wait until i sell this g2x. Thanks again guys

Just rob somebody if you have to. The G2X is that bad. I am very extremely happy with this device coming from a G2X. I will never buy an LG product of and kind again.

this is how i felt. i thought the g2x dev community was going to be rich but it wasnt/isnt. on top of the bugs, cant deal with lg or nvidia again

Ditto to this! I mean, the features offered on the g2x are 2nd to none, but the execution of these features are horrendous. LG beat me on that purchase, but surely lg and me will not be transacting again in the near future! I'm digging this sgs2 tho!

SGS2 cost me about $560 w/ tax, and I was able to sell ph G2X locally for $250. Took 1 hour on craigslist. So, I paid $310 for the phone, but very much worth it.

t-mobile blocked IMEI :(

Yes..they said the phone has fraudulant activity on it...but the phone was working fine for two straight weeks.

Call them back and explain the situation. Might have to prove you paid for it. Also try and find out what kind of fraudulent activity.

I did..they said the phone was stolen ..i explained the entire story to them..they still wont budge. I paid $550 for the phone. Its my bad luck..i got it from craigslist..i try calling the guy back..hes not answering.

I'd try go to the cops and see if you can return the phone to the user it was stolen from, as well as see if they can go after the guy you bought it from to recoup your money.

They said an employee stole the phone...and when i bought it it was sealed brand new.

But I somehow don't buy your story. Blocking IMEI is good protection against thieves.

Depending on the situation it can take weeks for an imei to get blocked. It doesn't matter how you got it, matters of it was paid for it not through them ie first payment default or stolen. Tmo will not unlock it. You need to call the cops.

Bad luck? Really? You allegedly chose to purchase a top of the line phone for full price off of Craigslist instead of the T-Mo store. Why in the world would you do that? Something does not make sense.
Anyway it's nice to see that if my phone is stolen, I can block anyone trying to use it. A person in one of the threads who claimed to work for Tmo said they can't really block phones. Guess that poster was wrong.

Bummer dude, if T-Mobile said it was stolen then that's all there is. No way to change that, they block the IMEIs of phones that are reported lost, stolen, and phones on EIP (Equipment Installation Program) that have stopped paying. Best bet is to unlock to AT&T and sell it. I got mine in a trade for my note, but made sure to get the receipt even tho it was a previous customer of mine. Called T-mobile and immediately to have it registered in my name with IMEI to make sure there was no EIP in place. Next time run the IMEI, ask them to go into a T-Mobile store with you instead of meeting them at McDonald's. :angel:

What is not to believe? I bought mine off CL too... I didn't want to extend my contract, I have 1 more year with T-mobile then I'm switching to something else (but that's another story). If I bought the phone from T-mobile it would have cost me like $330 + tax - the $50MIR + get locked in to T-mobile for an extra 12 months of service... I bought the phone from someone - Yeah, I paid a little extra, but I have the option of LEAVING T-mobile in 12 months - AS I PLAN TOO, for a cheaper monthly service - so TO ME it was worth the extra up-front cost.
I'm not defending the OP, I'm defending the idea that its shady to buy a high end phone off craigslist or NOT from the dealer. Just because YOU think its ok to FINANCE the extra balance and cost of the phone instead of paying up front for it, that's YOUR CHOICE (or the OP choice) if not then that is also THEIR CHOICE.
I have bought several iPhone's - ALL FOR MUCH MORE THAN THE CONTRACT DISCOUNT PRICE because we have been on T-mobile which doesn't offer the iPhone so the only way to get the iPhone is to buy out right. That might make me stupid, but not shady. :good:

All cellphone carriers in the US must sell phones at their outright price. I just bought my S3 from VZW at $600 full price...Why didn't you just do that?

Buying a note 2 have some ?'s

Ok so im planning to buy a new T-Mobile galaxy note 2 from craigslist for $500 everything is in the box sealed. I'm worried about the situation were T-Mobile blocks your phone from their network if they just bought it with contract and didn't pay the cancelation fee. I was going to meet him up at T-Mobile but he has things to do so we are going to do the deal after T-Mobile store closes. Here's what he told me when I told him about this.
Him : The note 2 was purchased under my account, I have sold 3 other note 2s without any issues or complaints and I bought it for 750.
Also he said
Well my account is active and im using a tmobile phone so I dont know what to tell you, you can buy the phone or not its ur choice
What's your guys input on this ? I would wait but I need a phone today asap and his is the only one I could find

if he bought it for $750 why would he sell it for $500? the only way it makes sense is if he got a deal on the phone or got it as a gift and is flipping it for a profit
i live in NY and on CL the Tmo version is going from $600-650....$500 is quite cheap
if you ABSOLUTELY NEED a phone today as you claim you do...you're better off buying one that is closer to the average asking price
advise for anyone using CL...if it sounds to good to be true..it probably is

considering the current retail price is $699.99...i dont see the logic of selling it for $500 when you can easily get $100 more
but yeah..i just re-checked CL and they are going for at least $600 with only 1 post that is $550 but the phone is not mint thats why
if they are all going for 500-600 in your area then it shouldnt be hard to find another person that sounds more legit that is also selling it for 500

tmobile phones are rarely blacklisted if ever..are you concerned that it has already been blacklisted or that it WILL be blacklisted sometime down the line...if your speaking in the present just pop your sim in there..if it works, your ok..for now..
if you are gonna buy from this guy, ask him if hes driving to meet you...if he is just copy down or memorize his license plate without him knowing

I was planning to call T-Mobile since he will give me the imei number but T-Mobile can't check it ??? And I'm concerned of it being blacklisted down the road because I can just pop my sim in and if it works its good but what if next month it doesn't?

to be honest with you i dont think tmobile cares about blacklisting stolen phones...my guess is that employees dont even have that info to look up
if you are just looking to pop your sim in and use it you are most likely gonna be fine..if you are planning on unlocking it or using it internationally then you might encounter an issue if that phone was indeed stolen and reported
the only way to protect yourself is to look for deals that you truly believe are legit...trust your gut..sounds like your gut is telling you no...if you really believed that this guy was legit you wouldnt have posted this question

why did you mention the thing about someone buying the phone and not paying the cancellation fee? is that what you believe he is doing or did you just make that up out of paranoia?
i believe you can tell if a CL posting is real based on the way they write...also always ask the seller if he has a receipt
like i mentioned..most guys that are legit will answer questions
1. where did they get it from?
2. why are they selling?

I know there have been issues over in the gs3 forum where someone buys a s3 off craigslist and a couple months later the phone no longer works. What ppl are doing is buying the phone with a value plan pay the upfront of 129.99 or 199 or whatever it is and then the rest of the cost is broken up over the course of 20 months. Well they sell the phone and stop paying the installment payments and that causes the phone to get blacklisted.

id just ask him if he has a receipt...open the box in front of him and pop your sim in to test it
like i said..tmobile rarely if ever blacklists a phone..at the end of the day its your choice..no one can tell you whether or not its safe...no one knows..good luck

Are you still on contract and that is why you need to buy the device "full" price? Are you wanting to use the device for the prepaid plan? Are you trying to keep your old plan?
Why not just go for a contract? This way you don't have to pay so much for this device. And you will know that the device is legit.

Just call t-mobile and give them the IMEI and see if the phone is blacklisted. Worked for our second Note 2, and it's running on solavei with zero problems.

Figured I'd post here, but does anyone know if phones outside of the Equipment Installment Plan get blacklisted? I'm shopping for a Note 2 right now and want to make sure phones purchased off-contract or on-contract but not in EIP won't get blacklisted.
The 2-months-to-blacklist thing is outside of PayPal/eBay buyer protection but just within normal credit card protections but I want to be as safe as possible.

There is no clear cut answer as of yet. Supposedly they should have already start blacklisting the phones that are reported stolen. AT&T have already started the program.

The condition is whether the previous user paid off the phone or not. I had to pay S3 in full (remaining balance) at once before selling it.

Walmart deal today

I was on walmarts site today and they have the note 2 for $249.99 and you get a $100 gift card with it. This is the best deal I've seen for this phone and thought l would share.

anyone know why I can't add the phone to the cart?

I can add the phone to the cart, but it wont let me keep my 450 family plan, it auto selcts the 750 or 900. how do i go about this? or maybe I'll try get att to match it on the retension call haha

There are two "equal" deals . You probably selected 249.99 with new account. There is absolutly the same $249.99 deal for upgrade. Both are sweetened with $100 e-gift card for Walmart today so final price $149.99+tax

According to the fine print it is for new and qualified upgrades. The eGift Card will be mailed out by the second week of January though.

I tried getting att to match the offer but no go. Fortunately I was able to upgrade my line through walmart without ay changes to my family and data plan Total came out at 249 with 100 gift card = price hard to beat. So excited to be a new note 2 owner!

I bought a Note II and a galaxy SIII from Walmart Wednesday. 2 dang days early. .

I bought it from the store and they are giving me the run-around. I have half a mind to just bring the thing back and purchase from somewhere else. If I knew I wouldn't lose my number I would kuat cancel it.

Hope it still is $249 tomorrow. i got mine at best buy today for $299. they won't match the $100 gift card, but I would rather have best buy's black tie protection and i used their buy back program to trade back my Note - got $300 for that

Called ATT for a price match they successfully gave it to me..I already called a week ago and said I seen it at best buy for 199 so they gave me credit for 100 bucks...I read this thread wrong....at first I thought it said 149.00 so I called ATT again Today.and said wallmart has it for 149.00 and a 100 gift card..sure enough I had to speak to a supervisor and got credit for 50 bucks..to equal 149.00 total cost. Then just read this and it said wallmartS price was 249....opps...lmao
So I learned they must not check..because I was wrong and still got the price match..lol.

Went and upgraded both my phone and my son's phones today. Got myself the Note II and my son HTC's One X+. Hell of a deal. Had to order them online since the local stores didn't carry them at all and of course they are both backordered, but at least I didn't have to pay any sales tax since the outfit was out of state. Not bad paying $399.98 total for two top of the line phones and with getting $200 back in gift cards makes it a steal as far as I'm concerned. Will likely have to deal with the typical screw ups of Walmart messing up data plans and such with AT&T next week but that's a small price to pay and one I've never had and issue getting cleared up. I've ordered my phones from Walmart the last several times and they always seem to get something wrong. But they have great prices so I keep going back.

You can get like $280-$350 (maybe more if you include accessories) with a good ESN. Of course, eBay charges a little fee though -__-

I have mine on eBay now its at $99.99 it is in perfect condition and has tons of accessories, people better start bidding Lol, it has about 4 days left though. I saw that price on best buy though which is very good compared to every other trade in place. Sprint said they would give me $106 for a mint S3 ummm no thanks. The thing is that I'm buying this phone, either the S4 or the One, off contract full price so best buy always charges like $150 more for off contract phones. Its not worth it.

With my selling experience on eBay like 85% of the bids come within a couple hours of the end time. Trust me you'll get $300+. PM me and let me know what you get! I'm thinking of doing the same and paying the difference to get the S4 with no upgrade. I have a ton of accessories too.

Will do, and thats what i was thinking about a bunch of bids coming in the end. Also I figure tomorrow is payday for some people. I better get $300 lol AT LEAST! I have 3 cases 3 oem batteries and one extended battery and two chargers and a S3 with the box in perfect condition. Thats why when I went into Sprint and the guy was saying" Just pay the early upgrade for $100 and give us your old S3 we will knock $106 off the upgrade price which is $450. lol I asked if he was smoking crack and then said he77 no. Lol. It was funny and sad to listen to them try and "convince" me to do a early upgrade.

Could that $106 go towards and upgrade ?
Either way I would be better off selling my gs3 for $250 minimum and that would cover the upgrade fee.

So this is how it works. If you are eligible for a upgrade or buy the phone off contract, you get to keep your device. If you want to upgrade early it is whatever price they say depending on where you are in your contract and they take the device you are using and give you some ungodly amount for it, whatever they give you for the phone goes toward the upgrade. Which is a ripoff.

There early upgrade program sucks !!! Rip off !!!! I've heard a few people avoid having to sell there phone to sprint and just paying the upgrade fee. But they went through customer service .

If you would have checked Thursday 4/25/13 best buy was giving $350 for the phone as trade in value. I had buy back on my phone which guarantees me $280 right now. But because the trade in value was higher than buy back, I would have received $376.50 if I traded my phone in. I was stupid not to do it. I still get $280 but that's almost $100 difference lol

Sprint with a clean esn and trade it in. Then you can pay the early upgrade fee and get phone with subsidize price. Then sell the phone that your S3 on ebay or craiglist foe 300+ and that way you'll save some money. For the early upgrade fee they just need a phone to be trade in but it doesn't has to be your current phone it just need be a clean esn phone. You trade in like an old blackberry or the first Evo or it could even be feature phone like Moto Rzor but with clean esn.

All together how much would doing the early upgrade cost? Cause buying off contract is like $750+, obviously if it's cheaper than that, then doing the early upgrade would be wroth it!

From browsing the HTC One forum you can ask bestbuy to price match the retail price for the carrier. Some say it worked, others said it didn't. Can't hurt to try.

I already asked they said they price match everything but phones. I'm just selling mine and buying new off amazon, they have the same prices as Sprint.
