I bought an Arc S and updated it to ICS and found it a bit laggy
Rooted it and installed CWM and Flashed Ultimate HD but bluetooth wasnt working so restored my Nandroid backup but it kinda bricked (struck at sony logo) but i flased gb with flashtool and i am going to unlock bootloader soon...
I just wanted to know what are its general bugs couldnt find from bug tracker
And do i have have to install any kernel
P.S. : i am not a noob i have done all this with my galaxy ace
Help is appreciated
If you are flashing thru flash tool, no need to install kernel again.
But if you want change kernel (custom kernel) you can change. The best kernel for GB is DoomLord's kernel V22.
You can flash custom kernel thru fastboot.

Hello People,
I have rooted and unlocked my Arc's boot loader successfully. Thanks to all of u guys.
But now I want to try ICS Roms on my Arc, I have installed CWM.
Please tell me how can i do that? Instructions are there but my arc is running on Gingerbread, So if I'll flash the ICS kernel, wont that be a problem? (Sorry, I'm a noob. Please Help)
Thanks in advance.
Current Firmware - LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42_Generic Global (Rooted)
first you have to flash an ics kernel via fastboot. i recommend the stock kernel including cwm. then on the first boot you go into cwm and flash the ics rom
Use the the Advanced doom kernel, and then, on the recovery flash your phone with the rom.
but what about the wifi battery drain problem in stock ics kernel?
thanks guys I'm now running ICS on my Arc.
i have xperia arc s and i flash the stock ics nordic, rooted and has recovery.
i tried installing 2 custom roms (KA17 and ARCOIMUN) and after installing them with the recovery and one of them was with aroma installer, my phone reboots and stuck on the sony logo!!
even the pc companion didnt recognized it.
i had to reflash my rom with flashtool luckily it fixed the problem [=
is there any custom rom that doesnt need custom kernel ... im not so ready to unlock my bootloader...although i REALLY want my phone to be clocked at 2.0ghz!! i wish there was a guide for the best kernel use with the best rom for overclocking and having best battery.
is there any custom rom that doesnt need custom kernel ?

Hey XDA,
I had an Xperia PLAY R800x running stock rooted 2.3.3 with a version of DooMLord's DooMKernel that is 1.6 Ghz. The device was acting buggy so I used Flashtool and flashed it back to 2.3.3. I rooted the device and ran my usual bloatware removal. I couldn't locate the same thread I got the kernel from so I went to DooMLords page and found the v2 kernels for the CDMA variant. When I try to flash the kernel all goes well but when I try to boot the device it just sits at a black screen. It doesn't even show any form of recovery (which I still can't figure out if its included in these kernels). I want to flash the 2.0 Ghz kernel. Please help!!! The thread I got these kernels from is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1368636
EDIT:
Turns out the original kernel came from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605631
IS your bootloader unlocked? If not you cant use the kernel anyways. Note the link you posted is a valid CDMA kernel, My only suggestion for you is to use flashtool and use R800x uncheck everything except kernel. Flashtool will reflash the stock kernel onto your device that has doomkernel in it.

The device is unlocked and I've tried everything like what you've said.
EDIT: I was able to flash the v1 kernels but the autobrightness was annoying. Also the cm 9.1 kernel wont flash either allowing for cm 9.1 to be installed
I flashed this kernel. Works great!!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487473&page=2
Personally pax's kernel gave me bootloop after a reboot on my R800x.
I just wanna know about installing CWM Recovery in my arc s with a JB rom. Because there is no supported CWM for xperia arc s for JB.
And I am new to flashing kernals..i did my arc s to JB with fusion 5.4 anyhow but if i want to change the kernal do i need to reflash the rom as well?
And also I installed CWM recovery using X-parts before unlocking bootloader. Should I continue installing like that if i Go back to ICS...or should i follow a another way since now my arc has unlocked BL.
And also when to install the kernal before or after flasing the rom.
Thank You

Recovery is built within the kernel, so you do not need to install any recovery by yourself.
You can change kernel at any time, no need to reflash the ROM. Just make sure the new one is compatible with your ROM (JB kernel with JB ROM, ICS kernel with ICS ROM).
If you have unlocked BL, you can just flash any custom kernel (all of them should include a recovery), no need for X-Parts.

Thank you for your reply
So do i need to clear any caches after flashing new kernal?
And also what is the best kernal for JB based on cm 10 for my arc s that supports 720p video recording and gives a good battery life.
Thank you

No need to clear any cache, if you change kernels.
There is currently only one JB kernel, that supports HD video recording. I will update this post, once I find it.
EDIT: LuPuS JB kernel, make sure you download the 720p version. Topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1885559
Hi i got this sony xperia ion.
I unlocked the bootloader last night and when i tried to update to latest software version (6.2.B.221 i think) it showed me an error whivh i figured cause of unlocking bootloader.. so i gave up on updating with pc companion. Now im tring to just flash the custom rom and kernel but it says i need rooted device to flash.. so i searched about rooting ion and found one thread that i need to flash prerooted kernel.. one that im tring to flash is .elf file and it's stock kernel, prerooted, has cwm and init.d and says (no OC) but will i still be able to use apps that requires rootd device like root explorer, cpu manager after i flash latest firmware and flash new custom rom and new kernel?
I know you cant understand what i wrote.. so..
My situation
I unlocked bootloader before i update it to latest firmware.
Im going to flash kernel that is prerooted, has cwm, init.d. in order to flash latest firmware
After flashing latest firmware, im going to flash custom rom and kernel that is in (rom).zip file
Will i be still able to use superuser? Or like apps that requires rooted device?
It's my first time using sony devices.. please help this nooby noob
and i appreciate any tips or stuff like that will help me thru finally custom rom
(Sorry about my bad English)
