Yes, please name the app.
phono from play store I think !

When it's about the carrier's logo, im out of this.
But with /system/etc/spn.conf you can override the carrier name saved on your sim and let the phone display any combination of characters instead of the predefined name of the carrier.
Here is my spn.conf:
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<spnOverrides>
<spnOverride numeric="26202" spn="Vodafone.de"/>
</spnOverrides>
The 26202 in my operators MCC(262) and MNC (02), die string spn is freely chosen.
Using phono app but only get red rogers logo, can't display your own text

Or you could just flash AOKP and set it to whatever you want

This method is not working for the Nexus 4 under 4.2.1.
Easiest way to go about it is to use a custom rom.
Xylon. Jellybeer, AOKP.. These are just to name a few of the roms that have this feature built in.

Well yes, but right now I like the stock OS of my N4.
There has to be a way to change the carrier name on the stock rom,
just didn't figure out which it is yet.
Anything new about this issue?

it's set that way for ALL phones/carriers on gtalk. the only way to remove the restriction is to edit the android.gsf file in sqlite, but as far as i've searched the normal files to edit aren't on our SGS3.
See if this works.

I was able to do it on my HTC thunderbolt over 4g with verizon. Maybe because I was rooted, and someone edited the android.gsf file?
The files are there. I used root explorer to browse to the files then sqlite in order to edit 1 entry once edited your are golden.

Does anyone know if gtalk_vc_wifi_only is in a different location on Verizon phones?
When I filter for gtalk in com.google.android.gsf > gservices.db > main
I have about twenty records come up, but nothing resembling the wifi only setting.
This is great information. Thanks!
However, if I'm on mobile data and I'm trying video chatting with someone who is on their PC, it starts but then ends shortly after that and my friend's PC displays an error in their talk window that says there was a "problem with our servers". It happens on Chrome and IE. On my phone, it says that they ended the chat. On the other hand, if I'm on wifi, it works fine. Has anybody run into this problem?

This should work with Sprint users as well as those trying to flash it to another carrier. Sprint tries to route streaming media such as Youtube and Pandora through their own servers. This bypasses that. Please let me know if you have issues.
The great thing about this application is that it DOES NOT require the SPC to be punched in vs if you tried to access this area via ##data#.

When I hit the "Open Multimedia Menu" ... the app closes. and nothing happens. I fixed permissions just in case still no go. I am on a AOSP rom, not the stock TW?
It's probably only required for TouchWiz based ROMs.
same thing happened to me running aokp rom. Yeah it must be only TW roms.
May be we need to be on a TW rom to do this change and then get back on an AOSP. Just like the PRL update thing. Just a thought.

If memory serves me correctly, in AOSP you can't access the dialer menus (i.e. ##3282#). If that's the case then this won't work on an AOSP. This app does the same thing if you go into the ##3282# menu and zero out the proxy sever settings. The nice thing is that with this app, you don't need to know what your MSL number is.

More detail
Here is a bit more description if anyone needs it
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve.../206901-vzw-lte-google-wallet-build-prop.html
Hello there. Recently, I have seen many people with Tuna devices(especially Toroplus and Toro) want other variants' ROMs. Most are available for all three variants, but some are not or have delays. Thankfully, some people edit the ROM zip files and upload them so that the folks with another variant can use it daily. But, this way of editing needs some time to download, edit, and upload.
I wanted to reduce the time, so I made a simple flashable-zip file.
How it works:
It deletes most of the unneeded files and place the files you need in the appropriate paths. Then a script modifies the build.prop.
NOT WORKING:
-MMS
-data on some ROMs
Versions

@funkypc 's update to Android 4.4.2, AllTuna:
How-To:
1. Download a switch for your variant Download "Tuna" if you're not sure what it is.
2-1. Extract a ROM zip file of your choice (of another gnex variant)
2-2. Open /META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
2-3. Delete these lines
Code:
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "WHATEVERITIS" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "WHATEVERITIS");
If there isn't one, just leave it.
2-4. Zip the folder and flash it
3. Flash the switch
3. Flash Gapps and/or whatever fixes/mods/kernels you want
Data(3G/4G) doesn't work? (v4.2 or higher)
1. On any "native" YOURVARIANT's (maguro, toro, or toroplus) rom, copy and paste all of the followings at once in a terminal emulator app.
Code:
su
mkdir -p /sdcard/backups/telephony
cp -a /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/* /sdcard/backups/telephony
2. Reboot to recovery, full wipe, install a ROM of your choice (the one that you wanna convert), flash the switch zip, gapps, kernel, etc.
3. Reboot to android, see if data works, if not, turn on and off airplane mode. If still not, try changing the preferred network mode in Settings - WIRELESS&NETWORK - More... - mobile network. Still not, reboot.
If you want to change the carrier label, follow either set of steps in this thread by spunks3.
Please let me know if you find any bugs or if it doesn't work.
