GPS lock on JB - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Anyone have a trick to getting GPS to lock quickly on the nexus? It literally take two to five minutes on mine regardless of ROM, or anything else I try.
Thanks

I usually use apps like GPS status and toolbox to get a lock before firing up Maps.

Use a root file manager (such as Root Explorer), go to /etc and open gps.conf
Depend on where you live (I live in US so North America is good enough for me), add these as first lines:
NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org

it's set that way for ALL phones/carriers on gtalk. the only way to remove the restriction is to edit the android.gsf file in sqlite, but as far as i've searched the normal files to edit aren't on our SGS3.
See if this works.

I was able to do it on my HTC thunderbolt over 4g with verizon. Maybe because I was rooted, and someone edited the android.gsf file?
The files are there. I used root explorer to browse to the files then sqlite in order to edit 1 entry once edited your are golden.

In that file open the main table and edit gtalk_vc_wifi_only to false and then reboot

Verizon too?
Does anyone know if gtalk_vc_wifi_only is in a different location on Verizon phones?
When I filter for gtalk in com.google.android.gsf > gservices.db > main
I have about twenty records come up, but nothing resembling the wifi only setting.
This is great information. Thanks!
However, if I'm on mobile data and I'm trying video chatting with someone who is on their PC, it starts but then ends shortly after that and my friend's PC displays an error in their talk window that says there was a "problem with our servers". It happens on Chrome and IE. On my phone, it says that they ended the chat. On the other hand, if I'm on wifi, it works fine. Has anybody run into this problem?

I would rename your current calender to .bak instead of .apk so you still have it. Then using root explorer move this apk to system/apps the long press it. Click change permissions and I believe they should be set to rw/r/r. Good luck!

It's pretty simple. However this process still did not work on my rooted SGSII. But for future reference of these types of system files here ya go.
- Use Root Explorer to place the file in the System/App folder in the directory
- If the new file is a different name then you can easily just place it in that folder ( of course you have to change Root Explorer to R/O mode instead of R/W mode ) - ( if its the same name then just rename the old file to something you can remember )
- Permissions for most apps would be RW, R, R. Just click on the file and select "Permissions". After you do that you do need to re-boot the device to save the settings.
Note: I did try this with this calendar and it did not work. We actually need a SSGSIII Calendar ported to work on an SGII. I am not smart enough to make that happen. Although I would like to be able to do such things someday. Hope this helps at least for future reference.
I'm pledging $10 towards the Dev who can get the S-Calendar ported yo the T-Mobile SGS-2. Maybe more if it is done by Monday. I know it's not a lot, but it's what I can give.

hey man, thank you very much. very helpful!!
although, I cannot install it on my nexus (i9250).
thank you anyway.
Sorry to bump an old thread, but this seemed like the most relevant place to post.
I recently put CarbonROM on my phone and, after playing around with it for a bit, realize I absolutely hate the google calendar and just want my old calendar back. I downloaded the apk provided in this thread and attempted to install it but it says I already have the app. Sure enough, if I go to Settings > Apps, it shows up as Calendar Storage, but there is no icon anywhere, such as in my app drawer, that allows me to load the program. I even tried using QuickShortcutMaker, but it can't find the calendar anywhere in the list of apps to make a shortcut. Does anybody know what I can do?
Same situation here with carbon Rom.
Anyone know how to get it working?

I am not sure, but it would seem, S Planer doesn't work on any other ROM than the Samsung Official ROM.
I don't know why... I've testing a lot of possibilities (replace the original AOKP's apk by the Samsung's apk, do a wipe Dalvik, wipe cache, modify the permissions...), a lot of apk (recovered here, recovered on an original v4.1.2 samsung's ROM, recovered on the testing v4.2.2 Samsung ROM...), and it never work on my CyanoGen Mod 10.1...
It isn't an incompatibility with an other home than TouchWiz because I've never use this home with my previous Samsung's ROM and S Planer working correctly...
I will continue to looking to do working S Planer with an other ROM, but I have little hope... :crying:

Try OruxMaps. It supports offline mapping/tracking (with pre downloaded maps) and you can create and edit waypoints and tracks. A bit of a learning curve to it compared to something simple like Gmaps, but it is incredibly powerful. It comes along on all my backcountry adventures lately.

I've just released a location based reminders app. It's called Geobells. It works similarly to Google Now, but (in my testing) is significantly more accurate. In addition, it offers more features such as reminding you when you leave a place or at any place of a certain type (for example, any grocery store instead of just one). If you're still looking for a location reminder app, you should try it out. Click to view on the Google Play store

I'm pretty sure that the app works on your devices, so I think it's because of where you live. What country are you in? I've made the app not available to some countries because a) Sometimes ads don't work with them and b) There aren't that many English speakers in the country (therefore I don't make it available because no one would be able to use it).
Anyways, if you tell me your country, I can add it to the list of available countries, and then you should see it on the store within a few hours.
Oh and btw, the reason you see the full version is because I haven't gotten around to selecting specific countries for it (lol)
Thanks!
