help!! rom not reading my sd card - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I've tired all roms and none of them seems to read my videos it does play my music. Is there any way to fix it ore make it so that it reads my videos and pictures..

Are you using a 64gb sdcard?
If so, several of the roms don't support exfat. Try the Perseus kernel, or reformat your card with FAT32.

[Q] I can not write to SD card

So i bought a 16 gb class 4 SD card for my galaxy s3. My old 4 gb SD card that I replaced worked great with no fail. This new card however, sometime unmount and remount. Sometime it lets me write to it other time I can only read what I already have on there from it. This is a problem because when I set the sd card as all my media defaults sometime message comes up saying it failed to write to sd card so it changed back to phone memory.....
Anyone know if this is a bad card or if there is anyway I can set things up to make the card work. Thanks ! I have 15 days to replace it.
edit- I tried to look for other related sd issue, but it seems to only be talking about rooted phones. I dont have root and this is my first android so I'm not comfortable going the rooting route just yet.
Have you reformatted the card?

Which do you recommend. Exfat/ fat32 or Ntfs??
I've also had this issue but my fone is rooted. I've had to reformat it at least once a week. I will go to save music or a picture to it and it will say the ext sd card isn't accessible and when I go check it with root explorer instead of folder titled music It will be £usic or something crazy. Then the card will start switching to r/o instead of r/w.
Edit: it meaning the external sd card.

I would go with exfat. And try to format it from the phone not the computer.
If you still have problems try fat32.

Have you tried to plug the phone in to your PC with the card mounted in the phone to see if it will mount as storage? You can also If you have an adapter microSD to SDcard and a sdcard slot on a PC or know someone who does try and read it from a PC. Have you tried to put it back in the skyrocket and see if you still get the error? GL

If you manage to copy all the files to your PC, try looking at this video. I had a similar issue when I switched from a Razr Maxx running a custom rom to a GS3. Might work for you...

[Q] Perseus Kernel

I use jedi rom and love that it has boot logo changing option. While saber doesn't work with my sd (that's why I don't use it) it had the option that I want from perseus. Is there any way I can make it so it changes the boot logo or does the developer even have that option for the kernel. Please let me know if I have a way to do it or have to wait for the developer to add the feature?

what kind of files do you plan on putting on your phone that are bigger than 4 gigs?
and yes, you can always format it back to exfat if you feel the need

Torrented movies and season of shows. Also do you know of any specific way to format it that is safe? I've looked around but the answer is always different. I just want a simple process.

you could always transcode the movies to mp4 which would make a smaller file..
Is it really that important to watch hd movies on a 5 inch screen?
I guess you have to decide what is more important; the ability to use the card to flash and use any rom properly, or watching a movie on a phone..I guess you have to choose, or, be stuck using only certain rom/kernel combinations
Easiest way to format is either on your phone, or on your home pc, or your camera if it uses a sd card

Well if I did want to format, I have a 64GB Exfat card so what would be my options through Pc. I don't believe I can through my phone but just curious how I would format. Thanks

I had your issue when I tried Jedi ROM. I also had an SD card that was exFAT. I just copied everything to my computer, then formatted the card in FAT32, then copied everything back onto the card. There are programs like FAT32Formatter that can format the card.

Sprint N2 not recognizing sd card?

Hello,
I have a PNY brand new32gb sd card and I've had it for awhile and just today, my n2 decided that it can't detect a sd card. I've never taken it out so it's not handled at all. I even put it in my laptop and it recognizes and reads it just fine! Is there any solution like trying to reformat it or something? TIA

You know. I didn't do anything special. I took it out and placed it in my laptop so I could back it up and reformat. I also put my old 4gb sd card in the phone to see if it was a phone issue but it immediately recognized the card.
About 30 minutes later after copying my sd cards contents over to my laptop, I decided to try the card in my phone one last time before reformatting it. It worked! No need to do anything.

A Small Bounty for getting SD Card working on CyanogenMod

I am having a lot of trouble getting a 64gig SD card working on my Cyanogen 10.1.2 install.I tried flashing the fixes but am without any luck. The card is currently formatted as exFAT, which I thought the fixes would address.
Another odd thing is that when I am in settings and try to view 'storage,' it starts to open and then fails, giving me an 'it stopped working' message.
Anyway, I can kick $10 to whomever can help solve this problem for me or donate it to XDA or Cyanogen or whomever. Thanks.
Reformat the card to fat32. Should work then.

Download MiniAid Fat32 Formatter. Insert your sd card and run the program. Find your SD card and right click and find Format Partition but don't mess around with any other settings. It even comes with a video. Make sure you watch the video. Message me if you need any more help.
I personally use the SdCard Formatter from the SD Association.

Im not sure if itll automatically format to fat32, ive never had the card to try it with. But if it does, this the best option imo. Read the page linked above for more info on why.
Otherwise there are lots of formatting utilities out there you can use. Though the built in windows function should work just fine. Just some other options as I dont always trust sofware that isnt very well known.

But if it were formatted as exFat, it wouldnt work. The files required to use the exFat format are closed source from Samsung. So exFat works fine on most touchwiz roms, but not cm/aosp roms.
Most 32gb and larger sd cards come preformatted as exFat which is why this issue exists.

Well then, maybe the title of the thread should be changed to "..exFAT on CM ROMs.." or something. But as a work-around, might reformat to FAT32 (w/ largest cluster size)

Thats what I told him. I dont think he realized that exFat was the problem so he wouldnt have known to title the thread as such. Just that the card wouldnt work on CM, which is pretty much his title.

Good luck to OP on MicroSD Card issues.
Just to update this a bit, the latest 0820 10.2 Nightly's changelog shows that they are now supporting exFAT:
