A Small Bounty for getting SD Card working on CyanogenMod - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I am having a lot of trouble getting a 64gig SD card working on my Cyanogen 10.1.2 install.I tried flashing the fixes but am without any luck. The card is currently formatted as exFAT, which I thought the fixes would address.
Another odd thing is that when I am in settings and try to view 'storage,' it starts to open and then fails, giving me an 'it stopped working' message.
Anyway, I can kick $10 to whomever can help solve this problem for me or donate it to XDA or Cyanogen or whomever. Thanks.

Reformat the card to fat32. Should work then.

Download MiniAid Fat32 Formatter. Insert your sd card and run the program. Find your SD card and right click and find Format Partition but don't mess around with any other settings. It even comes with a video. Make sure you watch the video. Message me if you need any more help.

I personally use the SdCard Formatter from the SD Association.

Im not sure if itll automatically format to fat32, ive never had the card to try it with. But if it does, this the best option imo. Read the page linked above for more info on why.
Otherwise there are lots of formatting utilities out there you can use. Though the built in windows function should work just fine. Just some other options as I dont always trust sofware that isnt very well known.

But if it were formatted as exFat, it wouldnt work. The files required to use the exFat format are closed source from Samsung. So exFat works fine on most touchwiz roms, but not cm/aosp roms.
Most 32gb and larger sd cards come preformatted as exFat which is why this issue exists.

Well then, maybe the title of the thread should be changed to "..exFAT on CM ROMs.." or something. But as a work-around, might reformat to FAT32 (w/ largest cluster size)

Thats what I told him. I dont think he realized that exFat was the problem so he wouldnt have known to title the thread as such. Just that the card wouldnt work on CM, which is pretty much his title.

Good luck to OP on MicroSD Card issues.

Just to update this a bit, the latest 0820 10.2 Nightly's changelog shows that they are now supporting exFAT:

[Q] Help with Link2sd please.

So i created the second partition on my SD card using minitool partition on my PC, but when i try to set the link location in the app it says either device is busy or sdext2 doesn't exist.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Not sure if its relivant but what sd card do you have? Brand, size and class?
I got a SanDisk 32gb class 4 with ex2 and fat32 and mine works fine....
Did you read any instructions on this as well?
Its a sandisk 16gb class 4. Minitool said the original and new partition are fat32, but my only other option was ntfs. Should I recreate it using ntfs instead?

No, NTFS is not supported. What do you mean it was your only other option? Were the ext file systems not showing up as possibilities? Also, how sure are you of the microSD card's legitimacy?
When i was choosing my file system in minitool I could only choose ntfs or fat32. But when i browse using root explorer its in my data folder as data/sdext2. But link2sd doesn't recognize it to link to.
And legitimacy is 100% because I bought it at radio shack

Well its working now. Not sure what happened. Maybe it auto mounted the ext2 the first time, and so when i tried to mount it using link2sd it was giving me an error? Either way, this app is awesome lol.
Thanks for trying to help me out. I appreciate it.

Strange, if I am understanding you right; the 2nd partition was mounted as sdext2 yet link2sd never recognized it...weird

No problem, glad to hear it worked out. It was probably something simple like maybe link2sd not initially asking you for info on the 2nd partition. Regardless, ya, link2sd is amazing. Early on I was always confused between App2SD and Link2SD; the I figured it all out. It's almost pointless to use anything BUT Link2SD. It makes life so much easier, especially with our severely limited internal space on the Xperia Play.

[Q] I can not write to SD card

So i bought a 16 gb class 4 SD card for my galaxy s3. My old 4 gb SD card that I replaced worked great with no fail. This new card however, sometime unmount and remount. Sometime it lets me write to it other time I can only read what I already have on there from it. This is a problem because when I set the sd card as all my media defaults sometime message comes up saying it failed to write to sd card so it changed back to phone memory.....
Anyone know if this is a bad card or if there is anyway I can set things up to make the card work. Thanks ! I have 15 days to replace it.
edit- I tried to look for other related sd issue, but it seems to only be talking about rooted phones. I dont have root and this is my first android so I'm not comfortable going the rooting route just yet.

Which do you recommend. Exfat/ fat32 or Ntfs??
I've also had this issue but my fone is rooted. I've had to reformat it at least once a week. I will go to save music or a picture to it and it will say the ext sd card isn't accessible and when I go check it with root explorer instead of folder titled music It will be £usic or something crazy. Then the card will start switching to r/o instead of r/w.
Edit: it meaning the external sd card.

Try inserting your sd card into your PC to see if it can read it. You may need to reformat using FAT32.
It could also be a sign your sd card is on the fritz. There are a TON of threads that discuss SD card issues with the SGS3. (As a matter of fact, I had a Sandisk 32gb go belly up on me last month.)

I had a similar problem. I think you need to use Kies to transfer files from the PC to the Phone. If you want to transfer directly to the card, you need to remove it and put it in an SD Reader.
sounds like a bad sdcard, reformat the card if it is readable on the PC, if not then it's time for a new one. SdCards go by pretty quick these days it seems.
If it is just bad, and I reformat it, will it wipe everything on it?

What brands are you guys buying? I have two 16gb AmazonBasics Class 10s in 2 S3s, no issues yet. I've come to really like AmazonBasics stuff. I buy the HDMI cables all the time. Always the newest specs, almost always the cheapest.
Ok, something strange happened.. just for grins I went to drop box and exported some pics to my sd card and it shows in the gallery as sd card with those pics in the folder. However, when ya try to mount sd card, it still said safe to remove.

That's what happened to me with my Sandisk 32gb Class 4 card - I was able to get it to read/write/format on my PC but it wouldn't co-operate with my phone. After a few tries with the phone, I tried again with my PC but to no avail - it ended up going belly up. Ended up exchanging it for a new one.
However, I bought a Topram 16GB Class 6 card (recommended by another XDA member) and I'm trying that one out now to see how long that one lasts.

[Q] Perseus Kernel

I use jedi rom and love that it has boot logo changing option. While saber doesn't work with my sd (that's why I don't use it) it had the option that I want from perseus. Is there any way I can make it so it changes the boot logo or does the developer even have that option for the kernel. Please let me know if I have a way to do it or have to wait for the developer to add the feature?

you could always transcode the movies to mp4 which would make a smaller file..
Is it really that important to watch hd movies on a 5 inch screen?
I guess you have to decide what is more important; the ability to use the card to flash and use any rom properly, or watching a movie on a phone..I guess you have to choose, or, be stuck using only certain rom/kernel combinations
Easiest way to format is either on your phone, or on your home pc, or your camera if it uses a sd card

Check on a PC to see if the SD card is corrupted or stuck in read-only. If that is the case, you will need a new card. Had the same issue, bought a new card and that cured that, for now, but still corrupted the pics afterwards. Spoke with sprint and they said it was not a known issue. A few others are having the same issue.

There are many ways to check, when I put in my MicroSD directly into my laptop running Windows 8.1, it said there was a error with the drive and needed to be fixed, I believe windows 7 might do the same thing. You can also format the SD card to see if it works, but if you format it, you lose everything. I would make a backup folder of your SD card contents before hand. However, after taking out the SD card and putting it back in the note 4, the new SD card that I bought stopped corrupting my pictures, so it might just go away over time.

It's a bad SD card then, SanDisk SD card are known for having this issue. Depending on the manufacturer, there is a warranty. I just got a new card instead since I paid around 27 for a 64GB on amazon. Either way should solve the problem. There are SD card formatter software out there, but when mine had that error, it said it was write-protected. Could also try that, but doubt it will work
