galaxy note 1 over galaxy s 3? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Currently own att galaxy s3.
Moving to korea for 3 years. Taking my car and will need local gps.
Think note1 will Be better for me?
I thought about note2 but I dont need quad core and expensive price tag.
note 2 cost 900 in korea(600 with contract!)
I don't play games on phone(have nexus 7 for that)
I only check email/surf internet.
Going to install korean gps app on which ever I choose.
Btw new jb update is killling my batter like crazy. I was on cm10 but too buggy and still no fix on bluetooth bass and intermitten home button awake.
Debloated using root uninstall and still having problem.
Anybody moved from note to galaxy s3? Or gs3 to note?

What about nexus 4, has quad core and 2gb of ram, when it comes back in stock of course.

[Q] Is the note 2 worth it

I just got the i747 gs3 last week cause it went on sale for 50 bucks and I had my contract upgrade so instead of waiting on the note 2. I got this so I could sell it and then use the money for the note 2 but I do love the s3 and had the exynos s2 before this now is the quadcore 4412 better than the s4 krait in terms of tech and real world speed not benchmarks ? Because I know the krait technolgy is based off the cortex a15 and a9 where as the exynos is the same a9 as the s2 with 2 added cores and a overclocked gpu so is it worth the hassle of selling my s3 i747
Yes, I just sold my AT&T S3 and bought the N7100. This is the smoothest device I have ever held. Everything about the Note 2 is head and shoulders above the S3.
I was on an s3 before and when I used my friend's note 2 the multi tasking was like night and day. Everything just loads and never needs to reload. Also, the screen resolution is great! Even the form factor is better than the first note. In the end it's your choice really but the note 2 is one of the best devices I've held in a while. Getting one tomorrow!
No question mate: Get the Note 2 asap. Also had the S3 but this phone is much better imo and blows it away on both performance and batterylife
Good question. I was in the same situation a few weeks ago, but now I have my heart set on the Note 2. It was either note 2 or wait next year for the s4. But since Sprint is going to be he first carrier with note 2, i'm 96% sure I'm getting it.

You do know that posting a question like this here is like asking whether people like Lady Gaga's music on a Lady Gaga fan forum, right?
With that said, I had the S3 for a bit there before getting the Note II and there's a clear difference. The Note II on a stock ROM works better than the S3 did on custom ROMs and kernels, in my opinion. That makes me very excited for the future of this device.

[Q] Galaxy Note II for games

Hello, I wonder how is Galaxy Note II for playing games? Does it bring a very good experience? I rarely play on my GNex just because the screen is not big enough for me, battery dies very fast and graphics performance is average. So is the gaming experience on Note II much worse (or better), than it is on Nexus 10, or other tablets?
P.S.I also wonder if it is possible to buy 32 gb / 64 gb version of Note II in Dubai in the coming week. (going there in a few days), maybe anybody knows....

Galaxy S III or Galaxy Note II?

I currently have the Galaxy S III on Sprint that I got the day it was released. However, I am switching to AT&T next week, and I don't know if I want to get the AT&T Galaxy S III or the Galaxy Note II. I love my Galaxy S III, with my one wish being that it had a quad-core processor. With the Note II, I love everything, except it seems like it might be too big. However, I have big hands, and I don't use my Galaxy S III one handed anyways. I also do a lot of texting/emailing.
What do you think? Is the Galaxy Note II worth the extra $100 or so? Does it run really fast, smooth, and speedy compared to the Galaxy S III? Also, can you use third-party keyboards using the one-handed setting like you can with the stock keyboard?
Also, is it likely that both AT&T and Samsung will keep updating the Galaxy Note II over the course of the next 18 months?
The note 2 kills the s3. I went to the att store and played with both. If you're afraid it might be too big, go to att and check it out.

Its a personal preference. I use my phone for lot of reading so for me Note's big 5.5" screen and 310mAh battery are plus. Thats why I traded my S3 for galaxy note 2. But remember this phone is huge to carry.

I agree. The note II is bigger, faster, and has at least twice the battery life. I don't have huge hands and have no problems with it.

Pick up GN2 , use for a week & if your not digging it swap to GS3.
I'm betting that you will keep the GN2
Go for the Note 2. If you've got big hands you'll get used to it. (yes, that's what she said too)

Same advice. Go for the Note 2. I had the first Note, but it was the international model on ATT and didn't have LTE, so I ended up getting the S3 when it came out, but I missed the Note so much. Almost went to ATT and got their version of the Note, but held out and waited for the 2, and now, its the great size, and the LTE....and its the happiest I've been with a phone in a while!

Try them both out at the store - I have a Note 2 and my wife has an S3. I love my note 2 but every once in a while I pick up the s3 and it really feels like the perfect size for a phone... both are great devices imo.

Having had both phones I must say that if the S3 had the battery to last a day I probably wouldn't have made the switch. I'm glad it didn't and I switched. I was toying around with the idea I was going to get a tablet but was hung up on carrying around two devices. Then my girlfriend got the N2 and I started playing around and found that is the best of both worlds. The extra screen real estate and battery life is awesome. It really doesn't feel funny or big after a couple days plus I can still use it one handed and I'm not a big guy. I would suggest the N2 to anyone.
Made the switch
I just made the switch from the SGS3 to the GN2. I would agree with a previous poster that if the SGS3 had a longer battery life, I probably would not have switched. But alas, it does and I made the switch and am glad I have done so. The phone is very responsive and the battery life is fantastic. I love the S-Pen and camera.
Both are great phones. Don't forget some carriers have a 14-day return policy (at least here in CA) so you can try it out but you might be subject to a restocking fee ($35 for AT&T).
Note 2 on 4.1.2 international firmware.

I owned an SIII for about 4-5 months and I just sold it for a Note 2. It's better in EVERY way. It's so good that it's the first Android phone I probably won't bother rooting to install a custom rom. Get it and live happily ever after knowing that you own the best phone in the world. :victory:

I'd agree...the stock ROM was surprisingly good. I keep considering going back to it...

note 2 Owners: does the galaxy s4 intrigue you enough to consider switching?

I think 5" screen would be perfect not to mention the other upgrades across the board. I love my note 2 to death but I do find it to be ever so slightly too large for my hands that 5" might be perfect.
Nope... not in the least
Development is going great.. theming is moving forward.. This phone has too much going on to just switch now.
Until I have a use for a 8/16 core phone... I'll keep making this one better and better
Mac
I'll think about it when it's a Note 3

I love every thing of NOTE 2

Ditto....I've never been more content with a phone....EVER
Note III.
6.3 inch screen? And even more functional SPen?
No doubt the SIV will be impressive, but I don't think I could ever buy a smaller device. 5 inches is small to me now.
My piggy bank is waiting.
I agree about the screen size. I'm so used to this that going smaller just doesn't make sense to me anymore. The specs on this phone is already amazing. I still have my gs3 that just sits there. And the s4 is to be just slightly bigger in screen size then the s3. No thank you. Not for me anymore. Like somebody else said I'll wait for the note 3.

If the s4 doesn't have anything greater than a quad and no amazing software improvements like the note 2 gallery, all share, touch wiz enhancement (yes its not as bad as it used to be in fact I love it on the GN2) then ill hold outtill GN3
Besides I see the i9300 may have 4.2 update comming soon so im sure we will also

I bought my note 2 specifically for simple note taking with spen... Sold my galaxy s3 which was great for it originally from iPhones the galaxy s3 made me an android lover over ios despite 3 past early efforts of trying.
I would definitely be intrigued in a note 3 but I really don't see much to improve on right now.... Maybe external card slot usb hdmi etc without using micro usb adapter? Even then probably not. Great phone this note 2

Maybe note 3 not s4,but by the time my upgrade is due,. We'll be talking about note 4 .
I love this phone and just to think I almost didn't purchase it due to its size, now it just feels right.

Well in terms of size, I agree with you. I'm not adjusting to my Note II as well as I hoped - it's too big for me (one handed use and pocket). I'd prefer 130x70 mm phone with a 5" screen, perhaps with a pen, though I don't use it that much so far. But I'm not going to get an S4 - I'll wait for the next Nexus before considering a change. At least our phone (AT&T Note II) is rootable, but the fact that AOSP ROMs are handicapped by some hardware secrets (or so is my understanding) is too annoying to repeat a non-Nexus purchase. I hate the lack of SD card and battery too, but if I have to, I'll live with it next time (maybe in 2 years the internal storage will be large enough I won't care about the SD card).
Dara
My concern is that the GNII feels just big enough to make use of the spen, I don't feel like it would scale down to 5" size that well.
And like others I'm so 100% satisfied by this beast that I can't even imagine switching right now.

Here are the specs for the S4
Exynos 5 Octa 5410 chipset,
4.99 inches of Screen Size,
PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU,
Quad Core 1.8GHz Processor,
2GB RAM,PPI of 441
13MP Rear Camera, 2.1MP Front Facing Camera,NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi Fi ac/ b / g/ n,
Jellybean 4.2 Firmware out of the Box
Besides the smaller screen, the chipset and the 13mp camera
Not too different from the Note 2. And Im pretty sure Verizon will have thier bootloaders locked.

I'm actually holding off until the Note 3. If the GN3 is 6.3", I'll buy the S4. Otherwise, GN3 it is.
Size doesn't matter... It's how you use it! That said, I'm not at all tempted. I love my GN2.

No. I did that with my OG note and the s3. Ended up getting the note 2. Will wait for the note 3.
I love my note 2 and can not see myself with any other phone right now. I find it to be ahead of the curve and I can't think of what else they can do to improve it beside a bigger app selection "apps not games" but that's a developer issue. We need more devs to cater to us the note 2 users.

Getting an S IV would be a downgrade for most people who got the Note 2 for what it was intended to be used for. I haven't met many people who could go back to a smaller screen after owning a Note. For the people who are just spec whores and want the latest + greatest, I'm sure the S IV will be something they can't live without. But for those who want the large screen and all of the great things that come with it; the capabilities of the S Pen; and other features that won't be entirely eclipsed by the S IV... the Note 2 will continue to serve us well. I may be slightly jealous of a full-1080p HD screen and incremental hardware improvements, but other than that, I can easily wait for the Note 3 which of course will dance circles around the S IV. And what's up with the megapixels of these cameras getting insanely bigger and bigger? Just marketing hype tailored towards the ignorant. Most people equated more megapixels with better photo quality, having no idea it just means you'll be able to take insanely large pictures, for print media and displaying on large screens. Give me a great camera with DSLR-like quality. The extra megapixels can suck it!
Exynos + PowerVR = Drool
I'll be grabbing one if true

Leaving nexus for note 2?

I have an option to sell my phone after 1 year and want to buy note2 . The reasons are a better display to read web and 6 hours of battery life on note 2.
However I don't know if its size can be a problem and its resale value after 1 or 2 years. I know that I will miss software support too much that we have for nexus.
Has anyone from us, nexus users made this jump? Any comments please?
I've had the Note 2 and sold it. Really regret that. If I had an opportunity to grab one I'd do it quick. Hardware alone would make me switch. Quad core and 2gb ram? Yes please. Plus, as you stated the battery life is awesome. It is a big phone, but you quickly get used to it.
As far as development goes, on Sprint there was plenty. AOSP and touch wiz. If you're getting a good deal, I say go for it.

Thanks man. I am gettin it for 570 SIM free and selling my nexus for 250 USD.
It is too much but just don't know
I say go for it also.
250 for your Nexus is very good considering this day and time. Note 2 has one of the biggest Ram available paired with a dual core chip. There's a good deal of support on a software level. Hardware is good, very good.

I was 5 minutes from switching to a note 2 but in the end I decided not too. Overall it is a major upgrade in all regards to the galaxy nexus. I have 3 more months to go until my upgrade and I'm hoping my provider gets a premium device at that time.
