Basically, I am wondering if anyone is considering holding off on the Note II for something greater. Don't get me wrong, the Note II has fantastic specs; but all the breakthrough recently has made me wonder.
Samsung is starting to make their own mobile cameras, and is rumored to have a 13MP (I know MP isn't everything). This could mean drastic improvement on lenses and low light snapping. And now with recent news that Samsung has broke through with a DDR3 memory chip. Oppo also has a 5" 1080p, 445 PPI screen.
All this makes me think killer phones will be shown at CES, that aren't the typical improvements to annual versions. Anyone else going to hold off?

I think the note can hold its ground even with the 1080p displays and new quad core snap Dragon processors coming out. And if you want a 5.5 inch screen with s pen capabilities the note is the only way to go, and don't forget the huge 3100 mah battery that may rival the razr max battery life.

Will it make the Note 2 any less interesting ? The Note 2 has features (S pen) that a oppo 1080P screen with not replace.
otherwise I would be still with my ipad 3 with that retina display
I also want to try a bigger screen than my Galaxy nexus and see if I would be ok to stop using my nexus 7 as well.
big screen, a proper stylus, and separate keys.
i doubt any phone will have that until the note 3.
I think the note ii is perfect since they really focused on old technology and made it better, I'm talking about software, battery life, less bugs, and more development. If u hold of to a phone with new breakthrough technology the software, battery life, bugs, and development will be very low/bad. By the time your eligable for an upgrade all the breakthrough technology will be top notch running at its best capabilities

I know the adage about waiting in tech for the next big thing but I really feel the new exynos 5250 will be worth waiting for. My ideal phone would be the note3 with new exynos which of course won't be out for at least a year. I'm torn and might get the note2 anyways but I'm willing to be patient for now.

you can wait for what you really like...but fact is that something always comes out new and better every time..so your playing the waiting game over and over..its your call..as for me just got the GS3 when it came out and im thinking of pulling the trigger again on the note 2 this time..but like your said OPPo 5 sure is nice :victory: ahhhhhhh:silly: must have the latest and greatest :highfive:
I'm hoping the Next Nexus will come out sometime in December, so that way if I really like it I can turn my GALAXY Note II back in.

I currently have the Galaxy S III on Sprint that I got the day it was released. However, I am switching to AT&T next week, and I don't know if I want to get the AT&T Galaxy S III or the Galaxy Note II. I love my Galaxy S III, with my one wish being that it had a quad-core processor. With the Note II, I love everything, except it seems like it might be too big. However, I have big hands, and I don't use my Galaxy S III one handed anyways. I also do a lot of texting/emailing.
What do you think? Is the Galaxy Note II worth the extra $100 or so? Does it run really fast, smooth, and speedy compared to the Galaxy S III? Also, can you use third-party keyboards using the one-handed setting like you can with the stock keyboard?
Also, is it likely that both AT&T and Samsung will keep updating the Galaxy Note II over the course of the next 18 months?
The note 2 kills the s3. I went to the att store and played with both. If you're afraid it might be too big, go to att and check it out.

Its a personal preference. I use my phone for lot of reading so for me Note's big 5.5" screen and 310mAh battery are plus. Thats why I traded my S3 for galaxy note 2. But remember this phone is huge to carry.

I agree. The note II is bigger, faster, and has at least twice the battery life. I don't have huge hands and have no problems with it.

Pick up GN2 , use for a week & if your not digging it swap to GS3.
I'm betting that you will keep the GN2
Go for the Note 2. If you've got big hands you'll get used to it. (yes, that's what she said too)

Did the same thing as OP, even made a thread here about the same question. Sprung for the note 2, never looked back.

Same advice. Go for the Note 2. I had the first Note, but it was the international model on ATT and didn't have LTE, so I ended up getting the S3 when it came out, but I missed the Note so much. Almost went to ATT and got their version of the Note, but held out and waited for the 2, and now, its the great size, and the LTE....and its the happiest I've been with a phone in a while!

Try them both out at the store - I have a Note 2 and my wife has an S3. I love my note 2 but every once in a while I pick up the s3 and it really feels like the perfect size for a phone... both are great devices imo.

Having had both phones I must say that if the S3 had the battery to last a day I probably wouldn't have made the switch. I'm glad it didn't and I switched. I was toying around with the idea I was going to get a tablet but was hung up on carrying around two devices. Then my girlfriend got the N2 and I started playing around and found that is the best of both worlds. The extra screen real estate and battery life is awesome. It really doesn't feel funny or big after a couple days plus I can still use it one handed and I'm not a big guy. I would suggest the N2 to anyone.
Made the switch
I just made the switch from the SGS3 to the GN2. I would agree with a previous poster that if the SGS3 had a longer battery life, I probably would not have switched. But alas, it does and I made the switch and am glad I have done so. The phone is very responsive and the battery life is fantastic. I love the S-Pen and camera.
Both are great phones. Don't forget some carriers have a 14-day return policy (at least here in CA) so you can try it out but you might be subject to a restocking fee ($35 for AT&T).
Note 2 on 4.1.2 international firmware.

I owned an SIII for about 4-5 months and I just sold it for a Note 2. It's better in EVERY way. It's so good that it's the first Android phone I probably won't bother rooting to install a custom rom. Get it and live happily ever after knowing that you own the best phone in the world. :victory:

I'd agree...the stock ROM was surprisingly good. I keep considering going back to it...
Currently own att galaxy s3.
Moving to korea for 3 years. Taking my car and will need local gps.
Think note1 will Be better for me?
I thought about note2 but I dont need quad core and expensive price tag.
note 2 cost 900 in korea(600 with contract!)
I don't play games on phone(have nexus 7 for that)
I only check email/surf internet.
Going to install korean gps app on which ever I choose.
Btw new jb update is killling my batter like crazy. I was on cm10 but too buggy and still no fix on bluetooth bass and intermitten home button awake.
Debloated using root uninstall and still having problem.
Anybody moved from note to galaxy s3? Or gs3 to note?
What about nexus 4, has quad core and 2gb of ram, when it comes back in stock of course.

Which would you go with? I have a few people who are due for upgrade and they're unsure whether to go with the Note 2 or the S IV for AT&T... What does everyone think? Pros and cons of both.
I think these people should use Google for the pros and cons and play with both phones in a shop to compare them. If they want the S-Pen the choice is easy.
Definitely note 2 for the battery life...
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I would say the note 2, if you're planning on getting the U. S. version, then you should keep you're note 2. Because both phones have the same specs other than the screen resolution and some other things. Yes the S IV may have the swipe gestures and what not, but if you're running a custom touch wiz based room, or on stock rom and are rooted you can get these features on you're note 2. Now, if your getting the international version, I would suggest changing, because the international S IV has an 8 core processor, but that's really the only differences.
Hope this helped.

- ANDROID 4.2.2
All I have to say is that people that have to make the choice between the 2 are the luckiest ppl, both are major winners. On one side you have the Note 2 ( The best Samsung phone ever so far) with its insanely great battery life, it's flawless performance, S pen, all the touchwiz features with a nice big screen.
On the other side you have the S IV which brings out the best of the S3 and note 2 but with enhanced features, slimmer, thinner, lighter with A big size removable battery, 1080p super Amoled, a superior SoC, features GALORE.
It's a really hard choice , really really hard now that I think about it. Because the Note 2 is more affordable and has the S pen. But then again note 3 is on the horizon. Tough choices!!!!!!

I'd probably get the note 2. I read a lot, and sometimes use the S pen.

I have an option to sell my phone after 1 year and want to buy note2 . The reasons are a better display to read web and 6 hours of battery life on note 2.
However I don't know if its size can be a problem and its resale value after 1 or 2 years. I know that I will miss software support too much that we have for nexus.
Has anyone from us, nexus users made this jump? Any comments please?
I've had the Note 2 and sold it. Really regret that. If I had an opportunity to grab one I'd do it quick. Hardware alone would make me switch. Quad core and 2gb ram? Yes please. Plus, as you stated the battery life is awesome. It is a big phone, but you quickly get used to it.
As far as development goes, on Sprint there was plenty. AOSP and touch wiz. If you're getting a good deal, I say go for it.

Thanks man. I am gettin it for 570 SIM free and selling my nexus for 250 USD.
It is too much but just don't know
I say go for it also.
250 for your Nexus is very good considering this day and time. Note 2 has one of the biggest Ram available paired with a dual core chip. There's a good deal of support on a software level. Hardware is good, very good.

I was 5 minutes from switching to a note 2 but in the end I decided not too. Overall it is a major upgrade in all regards to the galaxy nexus. I have 3 more months to go until my upgrade and I'm hoping my provider gets a premium device at that time.

I own both and I love both. Note 2 has a sick size and specs. You won't regret getting it. I'm on Verizon and there are a ton of ROMs and the like in development. Good stuff.
