Help!! Baseband 1747UCLH9 and Restore? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

After extensive reading, I think what I need to do is RESTORE to stock OS (from CM 10) and use my Titanium Backup to "FREEZE" unwanted bloatware.
I'm SO confused as to how to do this. I read this link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2031840) for Odin-One Click but the baseband is (seemingly) different from mine. As I read/understand, the Odin-One Click is for UCDLK3 and I'm on baseband UCLH9. Too, I did not use Odin to flash in the first place; I used GooManager.
Could someone give me a specific HELP as to how to get back to factory settings (though I'd love to keep the phone ROOTED, if that's possible).
Here is (perhaps) pertinent info: Galaxy S3 i747UCLH9 (ATT). I have backed-up Titanium Backup to GoogleDrive.
I certainly will appreciate all the help I can get and will chalk it up as a great gift on Christmas. Thanks!!!!

Following the instructions here will restore your phone to a stock-but-rooted state. If you want to upgrade to LK3, use the LK3 images (this will mean your phone will be running Jelly Bean); if you want to end up with a stock LH9, you'll (apparently) need to start with LG1 and follow the instructions listed in that section.

ucdlk3 vs uclh9

Thanks!! Quick double-check questions:
1. I followed the link and saw the JellyBean version. Does it matter that (I'm assuming) the baseband for the download is UCDLK3 and the one on my phone (under settings > about ) is UCLH9.
2. Also, do I need to worry about the Triangle Away trip count thing? (As my language shows, I know little about this.)
3. When I restore, will my phone still be rooted? If not, how can I root it? (I've completely forgot what I did in the first place to root it.)
4. When it is restored and rooted, can I use Titanium Backup to: a) freeze bloatware and b) reinstall some my previous apps?
Thanks so much!!

No - following those directions will flash a new baseband to your phone.

Assuming your backups are intact (which they should be, as the process will preserve your internal storage - but it doesn't hurt to take a few extra steps before going ahead to make sure you have a spare copy of them somewhere), you will be able to do exactly that.

Odin - No Yellow Rectangle??

I've followed all the steps. Once my phone is "download" mode, I plugged into pc and opened ODIN. But I have not YELLOW rectangle. What do I do? Is my phone recognized??
Thanks again for the help.

As I recall, the "yellow rectangle" is mainly applicable to older versions of Odin (I could be wrong about that, though); I certainly don't remember seeing anything of the sort when doing this to my own phone.
Just keep going with the procedure.

Updated Rooted Device - Constant Reboot

Hi,
I need quick help. I unthinkably installed accepted to install a OTA update (2.29.405.5) on my Stock HTC ROM, forgetting that I had rooted my phone and the update was unsuccessful telling me that 'E:failed to verify whole- file signature'. Could someone tell me what to do next.
Thank you in advance.

If you can boot into recovery, then wipe all data & restore the latest nandroid backup you had.
If you can't then install an Official HTC RUU ROM (but after that you need to root it again).
The OTA will have replaced the recovery so that can't be done. Flash the 2.29.405.5 RUU, root again and then restore the last nandroid you did

A rooted device?
1. You update it manually from a .zip file, but then you have to ROOT it again.
I do not reccomend this one, because it can cause bootloops, or simply just won't work (depends on many factors).
2. Flash a custom ROM (even pre-rooted custom stock ROMs are on the site). A full list of ROMs can be found here.
As you've just found out, you can't update a rooted stock ROM so you answered your own question
Can I un-root then update OTA and then re-root, or will that cause problems too?
You can't unroot without flashing an RUU so you might as well flash the 2.29.405.5 RUU and then root that
Wow, what a headache. Is there anything else besides 'automatic download to sd card of apps' that has changed in this update that is worth flashing to?
If I decide to go ahead. Will I be able to use my nandroid backup?

This is what I've found (no changelog tough):
The first positive HTC Desire firmware change is that apps are now installed directly to the SD card for downloading, and I no longer go through the hassle of downloading and then move.
A couple of minor negative:
- The HTC Desire live wallpaper you can get “stuck”. By this I mean that if you use the stock HTC wallpaper live and go to the big screen to the left, a dark blue, to launch an app is a widget, then do not go back directly to the main page, the wall paper will continue to live on the left side of the Most of the screens (ie, that home screen is a darker blue). It looks cool when it happens.
- This HTC Desire update configures the application to sync kits. Just disable it again, then everything is fine.

And you can use your nandroid backup (when you restore - it will use the previous version not this new one).

Sorry, I didn't understand this clearly, could you clarify.
I mean if you restore that it will overwrite the RUU version you want to flash.
Oh okay, I think I will stay with '2.29.405.2' for now, not worth updating or the hassle. Thanks both for the help.
Just wanted to know if there is an alternative way to back up apps and data when I choose to upgrade to latest firmware, and not have to worry about compatiblity or fw version. Thanks.

[HOW-TO]OTA Update your Stock Rooted GSIII without wiping phone (ODIN TWRP 2.2.2.0)

I am putting together a quick guide on how to update your Stock ROM, Rooted, custom recovery T-Mo GSIII without having to wipe your phone.
You will need:
- Kies (If your phone has not prompted you to install the OTA yet, Kies will download and attempt to install it for you) (http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c.../20120809103126135/Kies_2.3.2.12074_13_13.exe)
- ODIN 3.7 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1270006&stc=1&d=1345396888)
- STOCK T-Mo GSIII recovery.img (I extracted this from the stock ODIN image for T-Mo) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1269983&stc=1&d=1345396186)
- TWRP or CWM ODIN Flash-able recovery (CWM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1269979&stc=1&d=1345396186 , TWRP - http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1269980&stc=1&d=1345396186)
- Recovery flashable SuperSU root package (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1269984&stc=1&d=1345396186)
SO, place your phone in download mode (Vol Down + Home + Power), and via ODIN, flash the "Stock-Recovery-Image(Working T-Mobile T999).tar" image. ( This is putting the stock recovery back on your phone so the update can install).
When it reboots, either select yes to allow the OTA update to install (if your phone is already aware there is an update) on your phone, OR plug you phone into your PC and allow Kies to prompt you to update your firmware. Select yes and allow the OTA to install.
Once completed, your phone is updated without having to wipe, but you have lost root and customer recovery, so.....
Again, in Download mode, Flash either of the provided ODIN flash-able custom recoveries (TWRP, or CWM) I prefer TWRP
Once that is complete, you can reboot your phone into the new recovery (Vol UP + Home + Power)
Once in recovery, flash the SuperSU.zip package and Voila, all done, Triangle away and you in cool runnings.
Let me know if I need to clarify anything here. It makes sense to me, but then again, I fumbled through it to figure it out and extract the right recoveries and set permissions etc.....
Please hit the thanks button if this helped you in any way
Hans
Nice instructions, but I'm going to wait a few days. I'm want to see if the dev that did the flash and root without tripping the flash counter will do the same for the new firmware. I'm still not too keen on custom recoveries yet even though I backed up my IMEI, so I just want to be rooted. If not, I'll use your guide.:good:

But with Wildchild's it's a complete ROM (650-700MB), correct? Are you not wiping when you flash his?
Actually I'm not 100% that you need to do a full wipe, but I'm guessing you probably should. Depends on what's different. You can always nabdroid and give it a shot. I will later if I have time.
Anyway, I was more responding to the post above mine about stock with root than to the op. Sorry if shoulda been a little more clear on that.

What did you have to modify to get them working? Like I said before, I made this little method so you did not have to wipe your phone to get the OTA installed.
The only thing I could see that would cause the OTA to break wallet, or Google now would be that if you have to modify pieces in the /system/ directory that would be overwritten. The only thing I had to do after updating was re-flash my little installer for international boot image, re-remove Carrier IQ as it was added back, and revert the googlesearch.apk to the earlier backed up version (functioning unified search) with titanium. Outside of that I run a pretty tight ship as far as system modifications go outside of root and root privileged programs.
had to edit build pro for wallet
Thanks op, this worked great for me! Updated and rooted again...

I tried several times but couldent unroot my phone. I even tried through the root kit by mskip. I think the problem may be that I got my phone unlocked, not using an unlock code but some other method (all I know about this method is that my phone says"restricted access" for a few seconds upon restarting.)
Any suggestions on how to unroot? Also, if I unroot, will I loose the unlock?

I think the best method to unroot your phone will be to ODIN it back to the stock T-Mobile image. (Overwrites EVERYTHING, probably your unlock as well).

Above is the link to the stock image.
Apologies, in general, but I feel you may have the wrong thread if your looking to unroot your phone. That is off topic on what is being discussed here.

I would assume the build.prop file will be overwritten. So its possible you would need to modify after updating. May not be any way around it.
If you want to test for others, make nandroid backup , upgrade and test. If it works, update us. If not, update us

So (in case this all doesn't work out) to restore via nandroid, just root and apply right?

Well if it doesn't work (Which I think it won't), you don't need to worry about restoring root. You just need to flash a custom recovery to revert your nandroid backup. Your root and customization will come back with that.
But with some of the added features that come with the update, I would say don't look back. Upgrade to the latest, then reapply your customization to get wallet and all working again.
IF you have to revert your nandroid back, make sure to do a factory wipe before you revert to your backup.
thanks! i'll give it a shot this weekend once i get more time.
I've used two different versions of Odin and two different T-Mobile stock recoveries (other one is here), and I can't get stock recovery to replace CWM on my GS3. Odin reports that the flash is successful, but when it reboots, ROM Manager still shows me as having latest CWM Touch, and the T-Mo update fails. I'm attempting the update via Kies right now, but I anticipate failure due to CWM still being installed as recovery.
-- I have Cerberus anti-theft installed, but I don't see anything about protecting recovery.
-- I have Busybox installed, but that shouldn't affect recovery.
Any ideas?
EDIT: Interestingly enough, where the OTA update failed, the Kies update went smooth as silk. Now to re-root and remove bloatware!

Im unable to update. I used Odin to flash the stock recovery, then downloaded the update via settings-> about device-> software update. Installing reboots the phone but then fails and reverts to current state. I can't update through kies also bc it just says "connecting", no errors. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling drivers but kies never completes connecting. Any help?

EDIT: I uninstalled all my samsung drivers and Kies from "Programs and Features" in win7, deleted Samsung folders from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Reinstalled Kies and connected my phone to install the drivers. Kies was stuck in the connecting loop still, so I unmounted my sd card, turned on USB debugging and Kies finally connected and asked to upgrade. Upgrading at this moment.

I was on stock, then used CF-AutoRoot. Pretty much nothing besides that. According to other threads, if I used voodoo OTA and just unfreeze the AT&T apps it should work, it has for them.
Would this be due to some other root app?

Okay.. so you were NOT completely stock. You also didn't mention what method you used for the update. Was it pushed to you over the air, or did you download it and copy it to your phone?
If you are following instructions from other threads on the update, then you might consider posting this question on one of those other threads.
I can tell you what *I* did, but I won't support that: I used ODIN to get my phone 100% back to stock (ODIN to replace the stock firmware/kernel/recovery, factory reset to erase the phone) and then installed the update via external SD. After the update was installed, I used ODIN to replace recovery, and then used that recovery to re-root and restore my backups.
Take care

And no, I guess not completely stock. Just CF-AutoRoot.
I tried both OTA update and copying the update to my /cache and using ODIN. Where is where I was getting the error.
If I flash back to stock and don't factory reset/erase my phone, would this still fix any modded files like audio_preprocessing in my /system/? Flashing back to a stock ROM won't erase my apps/settings correct? I'm still pretty new to this.
What backup method did you use? ADB nandroid or something like Titanium?

[Q] Ting (previously Sprint) Rooted phone - FL24 update, Jelly Bean

I have spent a few hours trying to read through all of the similar posts, but I am new to this and still have some questions.
I bought a used Epic 4g Touch, converted it from Sprint to Ting, found out that it is rooted, and I have been unable to successfully perform the FL24 update. I have backed up everything using Titanium Backup. It would be nice to not have to restore everything, but it would not that big of a deal to start from scratch.
I would like to update the phone to the latest fully working version of Android or at least get rid of this annoying reminder to update my phone. I have read that I need to unroot my phone first, but other posters indicated that it would be possible to just install an updated ROM and bypass that step. As someone else rooted the phone, my knowledge of these steps is quite limited. I am a technical person, but I need some guidance sorting out the contradictory statements.
Also, whatever steps I do to update the phone, will they have any impact on the Ting settings that were changed when I converted it from Sprint?
Thanks for your help.

Download the latest firmware for your device (and carrier) from here. http://samsung-updates.com/. Flash with Odin. If you are just stock rooted, it should update the firmware without wiping everything. Either way be sure to do a nandroid backup and store it off device. You will need to re root afterwards.
So if i dont reroot it would i still be able to download update after this whole process?

If you are totally stock, but only rooted, it appears that most everyone set up that way has been able to skip step one and successfully get updated and keep root. Note that doing it this way will most likely also reset your phone and you will need to reinstall all your apps and such - doing a Titanium Backup or similar for user apps (not system apps!) might help speed up the process. If you have done a lot of customizing and it doesn't work without, you may have to go back and try step one, and then the rest. But I do not think you will have this issue.
