I know there's a lot of talk going on here about the EMMC bug and I'd seen an app somewhere at XDA for Chainfire's GotBrickBug App. Found it and ran it but i'm not sure if my replacement board is different from my bricked return but it's not in Chains database of EMMC chips that are suspect. Can anyone decipher this?
Chainfires thread with app - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27014974
I'll edit this post with the screenshot I took after running the app.

From what it looks like this was a brand new E4GT. If there is anything else I can help with just let me know.

So up to now we have 2 eMMC chip versions not on the patch list:
VIS00M found on GT-I9100 (int'l)
MAG2GA found on E4GT, GT-P6800
Maybe someone with a new N7000 can state its chip version too ... cheers.

Maybe Samsung is putting new boards in later phones of the same model? My guess by this information is that they possibly knew about the issue pretty early in production because they wouldn't have just replaced chips midstream. I'm still gonna be a tad leary of doing too many wipes because Yes i did try more than 5 different roms so I'm pretty sure it was all the wipes. Funny that it bricked in the middle of just taking pictures.
Thank You....

Where is Radnor?
Where is Radnor, Ohio near? Wish I had those WiMax speeds here. I work in Canton and I hit 1 spot near Massillon for about a whole 5 seconds on the way to work. Spotty 3G at most and of course working in a steel mill pretty much scatters everything Sprint has. These guys on Verizon get LTE everywhere but I'm not gonna pay twice as much as I do now for LTE.
Sorry, just noticed Radnor is the server you connected to....

Central Ohio. 40 miles north of Columbus.
Uh that's near where I live in Loudonville (Mohican State Park). Be nice if you could pump some of that here. Yes, I drive 50 miles East to work 6 days a week to Canton and takes me an hour from here so maybe they could put a tower between here and Canton also.

Looks like there may be a modification from Samsung. Mine looks to be a refurb more than likely with a new motherboard. I'd bet Samsung has fixed the issue on new and motherboard refurbs. Just got it a little over a week ago after a week and a half of being backordered. Wish I would have seen what my last chip version was before it bricked.

AFAIK the new chips have had this issue put to bed.
Those still with the ones marked known - MAG4FA, for example - are still susceptible.
Hopefully though these will be put to bed with JB.
(JB sources, including the i9100 - have so far seemed to contain the official patch.)
So do you think the MAG2GA 0xE may be safe? I'd be willing to test this chip format and I'll make sure to post that in the General section. I did however, just last night flash Snipers PacMan after I made a backup of my Lightweight v0.5, did a little configuring and did a backup again with PAC. Now I'm back on my Lightweight by restoring from CWM. Couple more times of doing that may brick me with all the wipes. We'll see!!

Considering the issue was known and fixed in the GNex - and that this is not in the official patch list - I have always considered the new eMMCs as not susceptible to the bug. That's not to say that good practices should still not be in order... but for most people the problem was proactively addressed by the community and should not be an issue.

... I dropped my phone outside and now my sliding screen is loose when it is in the closed position. When it is slid out and I am on the keyboard, I can't tell but when it is slid closed, there is obvious movement.
Is there a tutorial on how to re-tighten the sliding portion or how to take the phone apart properly? It is probably a loose screw like my old PPC-6800 used to do and I would hate to Odin back to stock in order to take it in and have Sprint look at it if I can just fix it myself.
Thanks in advance!

I pulled a little to hard while removing a case from my epic and I can tell the screen is a little to loose. I plan on replacing this part myself once it finally gets in (shipping is from china ) Hope that fixes the problem for me. Might be worth giving it a try for $7 bucks.

Lol...you crack me up with this. I am curious to see if Sammy will still use MTP on the S3. I was reading a post from a Cyanogen kernel dev last night explaining that since Sammy chose this route their Touchwiz phones (all variants of S2) will always require separate kernels for AOSP and Touchwiz ROMs. I guess we are the only ones that can't have these great "any kernels." I can post a screenshot where it was explained in more detail if anyone is interested. It may be a reason why we have so few kernel devs on board

Hi guys,
I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy SII on eBay. I decided to take the plunge even though the seller said it was for "parts and not working". He said the problem he was having was that the phone would shut off by itself, no matter what he did. He said this happened maybe once every 10 times he pressed the sleep button.
I got it yesterday and started messing around with it. I haven't encountered the problem yet but I only used it for a few hours. I proceeded to successfully root the device and flashed a custom ROM (CyanogenMod 10 - JB 4.1.1) and it seems to work ok. I'm not using the phone yet and I guess I was just wondering if you think the problem may have just "gone away". If it did, I would feel very lucky. I won't know for sure until I start using the phone regularly, but I needed a reliable phone today at work and that's why I didn't bring it with.
Any thoughts on what could cause this issue and possible solutions are appreciated. I've read some people say it's related to the CPU or the button itself, or perhaps even the battery. The owner had never rooted the phone so he was just running the regular T-Mobile Gingerbread rom.
Thanks and Happy Friday!
Probably the power button problem

Thanks for answering, Teo. If it's that, it should be fairly simple to fix. I'll report back just in case somebody is having the same issue.
Since the JB ROM's suffer from random restarts and sleep of death issues, I would recommend flashing an ICS ROM. This will get you a more stable environment for testing, so if the device suddenly shuts it self off, you'll know it's not the ROM.

+1 to this suggestion. Flash a ROM that is known to be stable so you can confirm the original issue. I'd suggest stock (gb or ics, doesn't matter) for the best test environment.

I bought it used on eBay, I'm not the original owner. And I didn't see the SquareTrade warranty option for this purchase, perhaps because it was under "For parts & not working". I haven't come across the problem yet. I have flashed a few different roms (ICS) but every one of them has given me some type of problem. I'm still using my very reliable myTouch 4G and I'm starting to doubt if I really want to dump it for the SII.

Need someone who got an OG < 14 days ago and wouldn't mind a potential brick for CM
If you got an OG less than 14 days ago (which means you could exchange it for free if you brick) and wouldn't mind bricking, I have something kind of risky for you to try. This could potentially make us able to run nexus 4 kernels, which would make the road to CM exponentially shorter. If you are interested, please PM me or post here and I will send you the necessary files. If possible, I would like someone who knows how to use fastboot. This is completely voluntary, so do not get mad at me if your phone bricks. Sorry to ask this of you, but my 14 days ended. My idea is to flash the RPM partition from the Canadian E973, which has CM and can run n4 kernels. The nexus 4 RPM led to a brick unless someone flashed their partition map (in which case, it worked and accomplished the intended goal), since the OG's and N4's partition maps are very different, but the Canadian OG's is mostly the same, which leads me to believe it could work.
I got an OG off of craigslist last week, just to mess around with it, and maybe replace my GS3 with it, when AOSP ROMs started showing up.
I don't WANT to brick it... but it wouldn't be the biggest deal in the world if I did.
Plus, I've been leaching off XDA since my HTC Vogue. I think I owe the community.
I can offer my OG up to science. Let me know what you need from me. I've got a free day, for the most part, and I can follow directions.

I'm down for testing. I'm a technician at a sprint store so I can replace mine if I need to.

Thanks for the sacrifice.
Unfortunately, no. Luckilly, before tizonly1 could test, I got a sprint employee who has a decent supply of OG's to test.
Hope it works

Wow getting a n4 rom on this phone seems to be a bigger headache than I thought it was going to be. Is it going to take a work around or a huge hack to get 4.2 on this phone?

Yep its true, tabby the tablet finally kicked the bucket couple days ago. Might be a battery issue, I heven't been charging and keeping it above 10% but oh well. Power button still works just now screen. Any ideas? I did take it a art and remove the battery and replace it to no avail. I'll still try to be around but ye know, now I can't test anything.

Didn't brick it, or the one I have now though, just kinda drove off and didn't realize it until I got home.
Diddo, sorry for your loss

Yes, they will all eventually die, it's got a crappy emmc in it. How long is strictly usage dependant. Wipes for roms seems to accelerate it.

Alrighty then, I believe I'll keep mine stock for sure!

Still bricks.

I understand that, but you said flashing/wiping accelarates the emmc brick. So in theory it'll last longer..

Let me tell you from experience that this A100 is **** unless you put CM10 on it.
Acer did a great job of ruining this tablet with their ICS OTA update.
If you have a blast with FCs and a boatload of app compatibility issues, namely HD/THD games that even my god damn LG G2x that's stuck on Gingerbread/CM7 will play, by all means stay stock.
Now if you want to see what the A100 is REALLY capable of, do some reading, pick ypur ROM, and flash your chosen CM10 setup once. It's not going to accelerate EMMC failure that much quicker and the performance and just in general useablilty gains are a great payoff.
Justjackyl's two cents here.

LOL
I am mad at Acer for a device with broken hardware AND software. If you couldn't guess.
If your into gaming, tweaking, and performance, look @ pio's Sosei ROM.

Oh and to everyone, I think I theorized a way to keep it from bricking, I flashed a lot ALOT and it didn't brick, it died when I finally stopped using it! And the reason why, I think, is the work godmachine put in. The emmc cap erase work (or more not of) I think is why. When I switched recoveries and stopped running that glorious kernel, I think that's when it happened. SO IN CONCLUSION use his kernel and recovery religiously and I think you'll be OK. I might, probably, could be wrong but that's my theory. I did finally get the warranty taken care of and we sent it out Tuesday. So I might be back
