I just read huawei is bringing out a 6.1 inch phone
http://www.engadget.com/2012/12/23/huawei-ascend-mate-tease/
Holy hell I think that'd be too much for me lol
The hell...?! Yeah, that's a bit too much phone for me. I know we're borderline tablet with our GN2s, but that IS tablet territory there. You definitely need to use bluetooth only for calls with that thing LoL. Seems nice, but I don't think I could ever do it.

It is bigger than I would buy. Still, I have no idea why you would have to use bluetooth to make a call. A screen this size would be bigger, but i am rather certain you could still talk on it normally just fine.
Huawei. Lol.
Samsung may not be the "biggest!!1" but they have the most experience with the Note's technology.
Pure junk, IMO.
I posted an article the other day that the note 3 might be 6.3 inches! I'd love it. 1080 screen that size, drool

The hardware is good, but Samsung is finally getting the software right. MultiWindow is an example of the unique Samsung options (most of which all sucked, just a year or two ago) that they are finally getting right.
Huawei's a pretty significant Chinese teleco company but the only time US consumers hear about them is through their "budget" devices offered especially on T-Mobile.

There is lots of political money involved in keeping Huawei out of State and Govn. contracts for telecom too ! I know once their 'backdoor' was discovered for their Cellular LTE equipment, they were removed from bidding opportunities and further involvement in local and Federal government contracts in the US.. Strange stuff. Always wondered if their phones had similar 'hardware based' exploits..

Well I have just dropped my phone thanks to some sh** new gloves. Have been searching for a case also but no where has one.

Ouch. I have a case on the way, don't even plan on using my phone until that thing arrives.
The bad news is that you may have to stomach that for a while, but Amazon has some nice cheap cases for it to cover it up. After a month or two, maybe more maybe less, there will be OEM parts you can just buy. If it's anything like the GS2 replacing the housing isn't that hard.
D'oh that's annoying, but I was expecting much worse to be honest. Get an opaque case and you'll never see it again.
Cheers people. I have calmed down now a bit, but its so frustrating!!!!

Wait, so the shell contains the camera lens assembly (i.e. in case I scratch my camera lens)? I'm not saying the whole camera, just the lens cover.
That's a surprisingly low price if so...
How do these Asian sellers get this stuff? Do they know a guy who knows a guy who works at the Korean assembly plant or something?

I would pay upwards of $70 for a super thin wooden case. Maple or cedar would be amazing. I seen cases but there so fat. Just a super slim one would be nice.

What's with the hate on wooden cases? Unless someone can provide proof or situations where wooden cases have caused some sort of excessive overheating/burning... there's no reason it's a stupid idea. I have seen MUCH more ridiculous cases posted by people on this website. Tacky colors, cheap materials, hideous design concepts... how are those any less stupid than a wooden case? People pay thousands of dollars to have wood floors installed in their homes yet in order to improve its look yet it's a stupid idea to pay $40 for a case? Grow up kids.

Could you please provide a link to it or maybe provide a brand name? I'm not familiar with Etsy at all. A quick search on the site only found me a clip on back case similar to that one. Yours looks like its a slider and provides much more protection. It looks great and I'd definitely buy it if it's still available on etsy.
I also found some on eBay but I really hate buying from there especially when it comes from overseas since I almost got ripped off for an "OEM" Samsung Flip cover once before.

The Note 2's screen is not narrower than the original Note, just taller.
How is the Note 2 less of a phablet than the original? Bigger screen, and it's even incorporating more tablet-like features over the original such as dual-window functionality.

screen is definitely an improvement, almost no black crush, and a very small amount of black blotches (when viewing the screen in a totally dark environment).
but: it's the same story as with all amoleds from samsung before:
you'll have the luck of the draw! it took me around ten (!) note 1 to find one with a decent screen! the screen quality
was different on each device i had seen!
same should applies here: one sample gsmarena got had a much more bright screen then the second one they got!
as soon as i got my hands personally on a few devices i will report how its with note2, although i guess it would be
the same!
I think I am getting used to the new screen now. I think the reason why I feel it's less like a phablet is because I have not yet rooted and so I haven't got the chance to change the dpi yet...;p

So I sold my S3 (which I really regret) in anticipation for the N4. I couldn't get one on launch and theyve been sold out in the UK play store ever since.
I'm kind of glad I didn't get one now. I was always concerned about teething issues and 16gb bothered me.
Today I decided to get a GN off eBay as a stop gap. Besides the camera, it is a wonderful device. I like the build and I love the pure black front. I'm also a sucker for amoled screens. I've used my brothers one fairly extensively and with 4.2 it seems like a really "complete" device.
My plan is to keep the GN for around 6 months. At that point I'm hoping Google are going to do an N7 and release a 32gb model. Only at that point will I pick an N4 up.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting it, and for the first time since my S1, having a device which I can run 100% working AOSP rooms on.

Cool story
I think you'll really like it. I've had mine for about 3 weeks - got it for a steal on eBay right after the Nexus 4 was announced. When I got it, it looked completely unused.
Anyway, even the camera doesn't bother me. It's as good as any other cell phone camera I've ever used though I suppose it's not the best out there (HTC or Nokia most likely have those). Still what I use my phone camera for is stuff that winds up downsized on Facebook anyway. If I want to take nice photos, that's what my Canon EOS T3 is for.
Yea it is not a bad decision. The camera really does not bother me at all because it actually takes great pictures. Overall it is the software mix with the mp that produce great shots so the 5mp only sounds bad but quality is pretty good imo. The development is amazing as well with all the new 4.2.1 Roms coming out
Also depends on how much you got the gnex for thou?

And I don't care what anyone says about amoled, the pure black with saturated neon blue on the gnex is sexy as hell.
Only thing is gaming, but for anything serious I much prefer to use the N7. I'm sure the gnex will cut it for temple run etc!
I can see myself becoming a serial flasher again lol.

I paid 200 for it, supposedly in mint condition, but we'll see when it gets here. I sold my s3 for 350 so I'm still quids in.

I totally agree. I hear a lot of people *****ing about the displays on this phone, but I have to disagree, especially after a minor color tweak. Punchy colors (but not too punchy), super dark blacks, 320ppi (pentile be damned it still looks great)..I find myself just staring at my home screen sometimes which features a city scape at night recolored with a rainbow like effect, it just really shows all the strengths of this screen.
Certain shades of gray are the weakness, but I rarely encounter them, and the rest of the time it just looks great, so I really don't care.

Agree. Broke my one s and for this for 200 instead of waiting for the nexus 4. Probably one of the best phones if not the bes that I have ever owned.

Ever since I had an iPhone 4 with retina display, pentile displays are garbage in comparison.

Then by all means, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

sell gnex then buy iphone = 1 less fanboi on xda??
I sat a couple of days ago with a N4 in my cart, with a ship date of 1-2 weeks...but something just didn't seem right to me. It was $350 I didn't really have to blow, but I really needed to get something going because my company is kicking everyone off their Verizon corporate plan at the end of the month.
I've been a Galaxy S I (Fascinate) user for the past 2 years, and I wanted to stay with a Galaxy family. I have been researching using a GSM GNex for T-Mobile Prepaid. So, I bailed on the N4, with the hopes that I could find a good deal on a GNex (I knew I could get a "like new" one from Amazon for $300).
Then my Fascinate died. My Galaxy S1 that I've babied and taken such good care of it's whole life....now in a endless bootloop with no USB access whatsoever to flash anything new to it. Oh well, I was going to have to send it back to corporate next week anyway. Still, I haven't been without a mobile for more than a day in a long time.
Somehow luck was on my side. The very next day, a local man posted his "like new in box" GSM Gnex for $200, and I pounced. Met him during his 2nd shift workbreak and bought it immediately. Got it home and shoved my T-Mobile SIM in there, and completed the activation and number port online. Took them about 8 hours (overnight) to port my number from the corporate plan.
I'm thrilled with my decision. I love the look, feel and quality of the GNex..and the step up in speed and smoothness from my Fascinate (that was running CM10 nightlies) is immense! I'll probably end up using this for a year or two and pick up one of the next generation Nexus phones (maybe a Google/Motorola Nexus?), skipping the LG N4.

Really? You think I haven't used a retina iphone? I have, quite a bit. Yeah, it's good, but bleh color and bleh black level, and come on, minuscule in size. Way worth the tradeoff of pentile thanks, especially at these resolutions. I would agree with the old 480x800 pentiles, but 320 ppi is damn small, and the downsides to pentile are hard to see at best. So, in the real world the Nexus screen imo looks much better.
Especially while looking at pictures or watching movies. The GNex is amazing compared to iphone 4's 'it's sharp but meeh'.
