I have a stock Tmobile Note 2, rooted w/ TWRP. I'd like to install the latest OTA to get multiwindow but I'm having some trouble. Is there a file I can download and just flash somewhere? I tried removing root and restoring to stock recovery but it was still seeing me as modified. I also tried removing the micro SD while I did this. I was hoping there was a update zip file I could just run in TWRP. I'd rather not redo my whole phone.
Here you go, this is a rooted version of the OTA, just download it and follow the guide in this thread, all of your settings and data will remain intact.

Hello
I have rooted my Galaxy Note II and installed CWM for the recovery. I am also running a stock ROM. There is a new OTA update, and before I am going to do it, quick question: when I update, will I still have root access or will it break it somehow? I'm running the Stock 4.1.1

The update did not work for some reason. Is there anything else that would need to be changed in order for the update to work?
U have stock recovery?

Hello,
I too had root, CWM recovery and stock ROM on my note 2 and was able to successfully take the OTA update to 4.1.2 and retain root access. I obviously have a stock recovery now after the upgrade but root is still present! I did have SuperSU (paid for version) that has the Survive OTA update mode and it worked like a charm! One thing to note is that it was not obvious at first that root was retained.
Immediately after the update, my root access failed when trying to use Titanium backup. Also, other apps requiring root access were failing as well. So, I went into SuperSU and ticked the "enable Super User" mode off and then on again and rebooted the phone.
After the reboot I noticed that Titanium Backup had root access and then verified the rest of my apps were working as well.
Three cheers to the creators of these wonderful programs.....I'm very glad I paid for the updates and got the added functionality!!
Good luck to all and hopefully it works as well for you as it did for me!!
I'm rooted with a custom recovery running M919UVUAMDB.
So if i get it right. Only way to upgrade is to
Odin to stock.
Upgrade and break root.
Root with upgrade.
Re Flash upgraded stock.
Pretty much. Or you can use Skies to do recovery to the lastest firmware, then root again.

Been searching for last hour or two and this is only thread I've found this specific topic. Just got S4 today coming from a GNex so somethings are new to me.
Is there a detailed instructions somewhere on how to do this?
I'm also rooted on M919UVUAMDB and trying to figure out the best way to upgrade to MDL so that I can re-root again.
Install Kies. Under Tools setting, select recovery and put your phone to download mode. Let Kies do the rest.

Thanks for clarifying. Just to double check, would cwm recovery affect the kies firmware recovery process?
No. Kies would wipe it off during recovery process and install the latest firmware.

lol I've searched around too, but made my own conclusions. ahha
Not attempting to promote any particular roms but Wicked v2 is running mdl update with the mdb modem and radio and smoother than silk on s4, Revolt requires manualy updating with setuidremoval but has a great writeup how to do so as does Infamous S4, I personally can confirm Revolt and Wicked are working flawless as long as the minimal theming currently in both is fine with you.

Well, if you're feeling up to it, you could test it for the rest of us. No one seems to have reported back about anything yet. I'm sure that it will break root though.

i didnt go back and reread it but i think thats what garwynn tried and he lost root.
This is kinda required to get the OTA, isn't it?
If I understand correctly, the OTA will fail if rooted? Or is that it will fail if CWM/TW recovery is in place?

It will fail if you have cwm or twrp in place.....you need the stock recovery for it.....I think it will work even if you have root, but your root will be lost once you update

Thanks.. I thought it was one of those, just couldn't remember which. I may just hold off until I see what others are doing. I am going to look for a nice TouchWiz ROM that allows me to theme it.
Once the awesome Devs here at XDA get their hands on the code, it won't be long before we have a rootable Stock 4.3..
I've been wondering.
Do I need a stock recovery and a stock ROM to update or can I be running a custom ROM such as digiblur and update using stock recovery?

I'd just throw that under the "do not attempt" category. Odds are that while trying to apply the update, stock recovery would detect some assets that don't belong in your current build and abort the update. Also, if this update was successful and something messed up, you would now have no custom recovery. You would have to Odin back to whatever software version possible.

Does anyone have a baseband fix. I can't connect to the Sprint mobile network. I feel like i've tried everything. Any ideas? I've tried going back to stock, flashing radios/modems/kernels. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you flash Aospa 4 or cm11 through TWRP? if I remember in both threads they say to flash via CWM or you'll lose your baseband. You might have to flash a total stock image via Odin to fix it.

yeah i flashed Aospa, but i did do it through CWM...for some reason my SD card wouldn't work after the update so I went to downgrade back to stock. I tried flashing from ODIN with the stock image but it was failing at the boot.img part every time. Maybe I got a bad stock image? I'll search for the stock through xda and re download and try. just sucks because it took almost two hours to download. thanks again for everyone's help.
Well I have lost baseband along with all the other info countless times. The fix is not very hard. If you still need help I can help you out later today.

Well, as far as I know you would have to root your device, you can look in the development thread for lorjay, he made a 4.3 rom, after you follow his directions for "coming from ota with Knox" then you can go here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769, & follow the op to restore back to stock mc2. Only way I know of, hope this helps.

You don't need to root to downgrade.
1. Install custom recovery through Odin but do not check the reboot option.
2. Pull battery and disconnect from PC.
3. This is the hard part. Press and hold vol+, menu, and power while inserting the battery.
4. In recovery flash stock mc2 with counter reset. Also if you want root flash that also.
5. Now you have are on full mc2 ( baseband, radio, bootloader, ROM, and kernel)
This is a tried and proven method of downgrade for those with and without root.

When you say flash MC2 with counter reset that is from this thread right? : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769 Just want to make sure! Thank you and also what recovery do you suggest? I do not need root neither just want to go back to 4.1.2 . One last question can i just download the 4.1.2 for sprint's note 2 and flash it in odin? That method seems the simplest but not sure if possible on note 2. I see it working on the S3. Thank you!
You can try but it won't work. The only way to do it is follow the directions I gave you. If there was an easier way I would have told you.
