quick question: i updated my phone through the official jb update,so my hboot is now 1.36.
phone is unlocked and rooted also cmr custom recovery.
do i have to flash the custom 1.36 firmware or is the ota update one ok to install a custom rom.
reason being, just been in bootloop for an hour or so after flashing custom rom,but it could of been a bad flash on a corrupt boot.img, solved with several fastboot erase cache's and lots of re-boots
just want to check that the ota 1.36 is ok to flash a custom rom with.
thanks in advance,merry xmas.
Yeah, no difference.
Which ROM did you flash and is the standard boot.img compatible with the "JB hboot"?
insertcoin,i did extract the boot.img and flashed first-must of been a bad download, did not check the md5.
although i used the tool flasher for the boot.img, think i'll stick to cmd.
thanks for your input....
same problem
Well, appearantly you're not the only one... I tried to flash CM10 today, but didn't work either... Also got stuck in reboot. I hope someone can explain what i'm doing wrong.
You need to flash modified boot.img on newer hboots, and you would be aware of this if you read the OP carefully. Post 9308 in CM10 thread.

as far as i know htc havent released the one x jb kernel source yet (though the one x+ has i believe) so any non stock roms/kernels ie cm pa aokp ect are missing features = bt,gprs, ect. im not sure if there is a aosp rom/kernel that is fully working for hboot 1.36 as ive read through lots of threads and as to be expected there is a lot of conflicting information.
if any one can clear this up for me it would be appreciated
is there a non stock rom that can be run on hboot 1.36
sense based roms can be flashed on hboot 1.3.6
See my sig. It runs on all hboots.

I found the thread for that ROM but the links are no longer available.
I cannot find another ROM that is able to boot on 1.36.

What rom are you after. All roms run on your hboot !
Does the top of your bootloader say :
Endeavouru ?
If so check here in the android dev & original android dev section for a rom......there are plenty

Hey there,
I got my One X, a day after it's international launch and flashed a custom soon after updating to the 1.28 OTA. I ran sense based ROMs for a little while but then switched over to AOSP ROMs and have been running them ever since.
Now my question is, is there anything on the device (radio, for eg.) that a custom ROM can't update and for which I have to flash an RUU?

The hboot does not get updated with a rom... other than that I believe it should all be the same pretty much.

Pretty sure this is correct.

The HTC Dev process allows access to the following partitions: /boot (but only using fastboot flash boot.img), /system, and /recovery.
You are unable to edit the hboot or radio partitions.

However, I believe this is out of date. Radios can be flashed by ROMs and also manually through CWM recovery.
Thanks for the replies.
I also saw football mention in his changelog once that his new ROM included new radio, so I think too that it's possible.
Not being able to update HBOOT: Can this have any effects?
there are are a few partitions which cannot be updated by anything other than a signed update
BCT
HBOOT
are two that i can think of off the top of my head
as of now there are no limitations of the current HBOOT updating fix
the latest Jellybean Sense official rom i believe requires a HBOOT Update which can be flashed by a PJ46IMG.zip
The Radio on Tegra3 devices is part of the /system partition which is Updated on a Per Rom Basis
The Bootloader shows RADIO Version from a TXT file contained within itself and is not accurate as flashing a new rom would change the radio but HBOOT will still show the same
to cut to the point there are no limitations by not updating your hboot if you are using custom roms
Thanks a ton!!!
Hey guys,
I'm moving from CM10 (jb) to ARHD 12 (jb), but i'm stuck on boot logo. (i'm CID compatible (HTC_E11))
So I read three things and please tell me if this is correct:
1) To run AR HD 12, you need to have hboot 1.28
2) To run CM 10, you CAN'T have hboot 1.28
3) You can't downgrade your hboot without 'n S-OFF device (don't have)
If all three are correct:
You can either have CM 10 or ARHD 12, but not switch back from AR HD12?
Sounds kinda strange to me.. Please clarify?
edit: Ok, a reply that agreed to my conclusion. Next simple question: Are there any signs when CM10 will run with 1.28, Since I do want to be able to revert.
yup is correct sense+ roms only runs one 1.28 cm10 run on old hboot
hope i helped
In the CM10 forum is a link to a boot.img that does work.
Well, maybe GPS doesn't work. Or something.

Post number in official cm10 thread for the repacked boot.img for newer hboots is 7308. And yes, gps doesn't work unfortunately.

I'm a lurker here at xda and can't post a question at the RENOVATE ROM thread.
I'd just like to ask which kernel do I flash for version 8.2.0 (I've read that I should install a specific kernel for full compatibility) as there is no kernel download links included in the first post. There wasn't a step to install a separate kernel in the instructions as well.
And also, if I flash the firmware.zip I could skip flashing boot.img using flashboot right?
(I opened firmware.zip and found a boot.img there)
I'm coming from a cm10 nov 2 nightly.
Thank you
Here is a pretty nice guide for how to prepare your phone for Jelly Bean ROMs. I just installed my first JB rom today, followed the guide and everything went well.
Thanks!
But I have HTC_622 cid is there no way that I could simply flash the renovate rom? I didn't notice that I should have a specfic cid in the thread
If that's your CID, no you can not flash hboot 1.31 yet. And without hboot 1.31 you can't install JB correctly. So you have to either wait to get your CID supported or install the Renovated ICS rom.
I have also problem with RENOVATE but 8.3.0version. i did everything like in manual, but after flashing the rom.. i have a problem, my phone freezes after some seconds* and reboots automatically :/ IDK what to doo
*(sometimes i did not even have time to enter the menu or anything like messages, galery, etc.)
First off, sorry for posting here, I'd like to post in the actual rom thread but I don't have 10 posts yet.
I've installed the avatar rom, its getting to the custom splash screen and then freezing.
This is normally a boot.img problem.
The thing is just I've updated my HBoot to 1.39 and I don't know what boot.img files are compatible.
I've flashed several boot.img files from various roms I've used before, but none seem to be working.
The last comment in the avatar thread is this :
If you're on the new hboot you need a special boot.img that is everywhere on the forums.

Does anybody have any idea where I can find this boot.img that is everywhere on the forums?
Because I can't find it....
You just flash the boot image from within the Rom zip file?
I do that with every other Rom I've tried. I have no idea if/why that Rom requires a special boot.img.

Because some ROMs are incompatible with newer hboots.
@OP
See attachment. I am assuming that a modded boot for CM10 does the trick since Avatar is heavily based on CyanogenMod. Let me know if it works.
You must always use the boot.img supplied in ROM.zip. If you flash ROM A and then use boot.img from ROM B, it ain't going to work.
At the moment you need a special boot.img with nearly all 4.1.x AOSP ROMs, with a new hboot version. With 4.2.x ROMs you don't need any tinkering just flash and go.
Thanks for the modded boot.
Yes dude.
It works.
You awesome genius bastard you.
My pleasure!
It might be worth noting that GPS is broken with this boot. No workaround yet, you need to flash an Android 4.2 ROM if you really need to use it.
Haha dude, spent 3 hours trying to get this ONTO my phone.
I think it'll stay for at least a day or two...
Thanks again.
I need help to recover
Hi,
I am new to rooting, I've unlocked my HTC One X, and have backed up the stock rom through the recovery nandroid, I've flashed the Renovate 1.1 ROM, then I've decided to go back to stock ROM, when I've done it I would be stuck on Airplane mode, and this happened when I first tried to flash the renovate without flashing the boot.img that comes with it...when I've flashed the boot.img the problem is solved...so now I need help getting the boot.img file for the backed up stock rom...any ideas where I can start from?

Right so I've searched and looked and got headache after headache and I've just got two simple question:
I've rooted my HTC One X International Tegra 3 model. Unlocked the bootloader through HTCDev. Used a toolkit - WinDroid Universal. Got Superuser installed and all is fine and dandy.
But I realised soon after that I wanted to flash a custom rom to get my phone from 4.1.1 (original update, never updated me to 4.1.2 or 4.2.2) to 4.2.2 or even 4.4.4 if I wanted too. That's when I found out about all this CID bs.
So here's my questions:
I used CID getter app to get T-MOB005 as my CID. My software version is 3.16.110.6 my hboot is 1.39 - CAN I FLASH VIPER/REVOLUTION/BEANSTALK/CM11/SKYDRAGON/ANYTHING please :'( im dying i swear.
Secondly, are there any roms for the HTC One X that are Sense 5/6 and Android 4.4.4 ?
Im sorry if I make the Mods upset but I dunno what else to do. I've tried searching honestly I have. I leave myself to you guys

I also have the same cid as you, you can flash any of the ROMs in the forums including viper, if you want a kit kat 4.4.4 you will need a ROM like cyanogemod and a compatible recovery to flash it and don't forget to flash the boot.IMG via fastboot.
there are no sense 6 ROMs for our device and probably never will be due to the tegra 3 soc
Thank you!

Thanks for your reply mate I really appreciate it. May I ask a further favour - I tried to flash Android Revolution on to my phone and I nearly bricked it. Luckily I had made a nandroid back up and a titanium back up of all my apps - but since you say that I should be able to install any custom rom - can I ask you to walk me through installing android revolution HD again please? I get stuck at the flashboot.img bit as i dont know what to do at that point.
cheers!
Try this ROM it really is the nuts!: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2410320
How to install:
Plug your phone up to you PC while in the boot loader, and you should see 'fastboot usb' selected, make sure you have copied the boot.img from the ROM zip to your fastboot folder.
With fastboot flash the boot.IMG, then boot into recovery, wipe factory reset, advance wipe, cache & dalvik
Install the ROM then follow all instructions and you should be good
