[Q] Noob question: Backup Stock Rom (Rooted) with root66 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Alright, guys I feel dumb asking this question, I'm currently have the latest TMobile multi-task update and have rooted my phone using root 66, T889UVALK8. I have of course the stock recovery and don't want to use a custom recovery due to not wanting to trigger the counter. My phone currently shows the status as "normal' and not modified.
is there an app (ROM Manager) or something else that would allow me to backup my current stock (rooted) rom? I want to apply multi-tasking mod but I noticed some folks getting lag issues and force closures, and in case I run into any issues I can always go back to the backup!!!!
So, dumb question, but I'm still learning, trying searching with no luck! Thanks again!

Just flash a recovery and make a back up. It's too easy to Odin stock recovery and use triangle away.

Help please with OTA AT and T update on rooted phone

Hello,
My phone is rooted but ROM is stock. I don't generally flash anything and just stick to removing bloatware.
I installed TWRP and now I cannot get the latest official OTA AT&T update since the update load fails due to not having stock recovery. I have been searching online and cannot figure out how to get stock recovery.
I have been able to locate a supposed stock zip ROM for this phone. Can I just somehow flash this ZIP to return my phone to stock.
On previous phones I have been able to do a factory reset, which I have done several times on this phone today, in order to get it back to stock and accept OTA updates. This TWRP seems extremely invasive and I cannot get rid of it.
Thanks for any help
dave

I gave up and ended up just flashing cleanrom 3.5. Didn't wipe, kept all of my apps and data. I recommend this route if, like me, you want to keep stock kernel and tw.

I am the original poster. My phone would not flash the stock ATT rom that I downloaded somewhere. It could have been a bad ROM.
I could only end up getting into recovery and download mode. I did something to erase the entire operating system.
The guys over at TWRP or at least the guys on the message board got me through it. I ended up flashing the 3.5 clean rom. I never flashed a rom before only rooted. i also flashed the new modem zip as well. So far so good I guess.
Im going to have to figure out how to do an entire backup of my phone so that next time I can just restore it.
Thanks for the replies

Boot in to recovery (it's now an option from the power button) and follow the very easy buttons for backup. Select everything for an entire system backup (7 checks, I believe). Future backups can be just your data and apps if you want.

Returning to stock question?

So I'm getting a warranty exchange and need to get back to stock. Since I don't have access to a laptop or anything I'd figured I'd flash one of the stock unrooted roms. The only thing is will be to get back the stock recovery. My question is if I flash an ics stock rom, then to the update from the phone to jb, will that install the stock recovery? I think i read that it does but I just want to double check. Thanks

I think you'll just lose root and still have the custom recovery but in not 100% sure.
Also don't forget to use the triangle away app to reset the flash count.

You need access to computer and odin to flash stock.tar. reflash stock backup you still have custom recovery. Also double check how many counter you have.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
If you try flashing stock without Odin not only will you still have a custom recovery, you will still have a flash count. The only way to accomplish what you need is via PC and Odin.

Damn I don't have a laptop. I remember having a zip file for my s2 that was an unrooted stock rom and installed the stock recovery but I haven't seen anything like that for the s3
Sent from Flip's S3
I'm afraid not. The thing is, even if there was it would be pointless because booting to a custom recovery to flash the stock zip would trigger the flash counter.

What about Mobile Odin? Not sure if it trips the counter or not though.

[Q] Help on reverting my I747 back from a T999 convert?

So, a while back, i decided to convert my ATT galaxy s3 to a tmobile build so i could run LTE from tmobile on it. Now, my problem is, i want to revert back to full att again, in which i have tried, but im getting something wrong (Status 7 errors and what not, i feel related to the changeover) and i don't want to brick my phone trying over and over. I could use some help with what ill need to FULLY get back to at least stock so i can root and install a fresh kitkat rom. Any help is appreciated!
I attached a screen of my build as well.
How exactly did you go about this? What were the zips you used to do this? What zips are you trying to flash? These are all things that can help us out in figuring out what went wrong.
Well i had read around of a test rom created especially for tmobiles GS3 variant that ran on att in order to run their LTE. So i flashed that rom and i believe custom kernels and a modem. Only thing is i cant backtrack what i did and the original files i used are lost.
Anybody? Hehe I really need to get to a computer soon ..
That's an easy fix.
Odin back to a stock 4.1.x, rooted or unrooted.
Then on first boot hold volume up + home button and to a factory reset. Done.
PS: make sure you're not running 4.3 OTA latest bootloader or you will get a semi reversible brick.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Ok awesome! Ill look up the odin stock guide on here....but you daid it jad tp be 4.1.x right? And what about updating it later on?
Also, as another option, what would I be able to flash it to to keep it in its current tmobile state but updated to a shiny new rom.
Your cwm is out of date.
Update your recovery at that error will go away when flashing

So ive succesfully fladhed back to stock att 4.1.1 and rooted it. Flashed in CWM Touch too. Now Im trying to update to a custom rom and its telling me that my device is a d2vzw in the recovery log then status 7. Any takes on that? Heres a screen.
Alright! All is well as I've finally gotten it flashed to gummy 4.4. Its running so smooth...thank you guys for the help!

[Q] Official 4.3 Rooting questions

For starters, I am using an SGH-i747, that shipped with 4.3.
Now, I am not new to rooting/modding my phone. My previous phone, the Samsung Infuse 4G, was very easy to root, install recoveries/ flash ROMs, and unroot. I could go from stock 2.2 to 4.4 in 30 minutes. And I did, a lot. But reading up for the past few days on this phone is making me feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. Plus, there are very mixed results with rooting the GS3 on 4.3 successfully.
''Read the rooting tutorials'', I have, they are from 2012/ early 2013. It is 2014, thing have changed. One, there's apparently this ''KNOX'' thing that triggers when you flash anything that's not from Odin, and there's no back-to-stock 4.3 or any previous Android version because the bootloader has changed. I'm not really worried about Knox ending my warranty forever, I'm worried about the event that I somehow brick my phone, there's no going back to stock.
Looking at the CF-auto root by Chainfire, the amount of bad votes HERE for the SAMSUNG SGH-I747 is disheartening. Also, that the post hasn't been edited since Nov. 2012...
Unless someone has a surefire way to get root (and maybe a custom recovery) I would like advice on if THIS video looks legit.. If it is, then after I gain root, should I be able to download a recovery from ROM Manager or something similar? (I'm asking because that's how easy it was on my Infuse)
I feel very weird posting in the QA section, as I have only done so maybe 4 times...but any help would be greatly appreciated. If I need to clear anything up, for some reason, feel free to tell me. I'll probably be hovering over this thread like a vulture.
You should not need root to install a custom recovery. You can install a custom recovery from Odin which will trip the Knox counter.

But the things I want to install from the recovery will require root. Would using the custom recovery to flash a superuser.apk give me root access?
Edit; thought after posting, would flashing a ROM with superuser work with just having a custom recovery?
I prefer installing a custom recovery via Odin rather than ROM manager. Most ROMs are pre-rooted. If it's not, you can download SupeUS or Superuser and flash in recovery.
In my opinion, the safest root method is from Method 2 in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47747640&postcount=1
If you can flash TWRP in step 2, then I would immediately make a full backup, before moving to step 3. If step 2 fails, then your operating system is not affected. Just your counters and maybe your recovery. And if step 2 succeeds, then an immediate backup of your operating system before removing anything or adding any root might save you a lot of headaches latter on if something goes wrong.

Oh boy, I hope you're right.
Edit 1; ok, backing up now, this works.
Edit 2; after a successful backup and pressing reboot, TWRP prompted me that I hadn't yet installed SU, which it then allowed me to install. Reboot and open the app drawer, it was there, but had to update from the play store. Voila, rooted with a custom recovery, thank you to both for assistance! It was easier than I thought it was going to be.
No problem.
Don't know if you are aware you can flash 4.3 via S3Rx in the development section it is pre rooted you can use the MJ2 bootloader and you can flash back and forth as you please. Just don't use the MJB bootloader you should be fine.
Good luck and Happy flashing.

I guess since I already have a thread opened, I'll ask this, too;
What's the difference between the Android Development and the Original android Development? The forum for my previous phone only had 1 development section, so most of the layout of this entire forum is new to me.

How is the MJ2 bootloader going to be used when the phone already came shipped with 4.3? It already has the MJB bootloader.

MJ2 wont flash very well. But they also have it with the MJB bootloader and stuff so no fear just use the correct stuff and you shall get it aswell .

Dumb but need help..

I'm on 4.1.2 but with the mk7 basband.. is there a flashable file so I can put it back to stock so I can do the official 4.3 update? I think I rather have that even tho I can't go back to any 4.1.x.. having too many issues with 4.3 roms without the updated bootloader, kernels are even.messing up camera etc. So I'm figuring do the update so I don't need a custom kernel.. or is there a flashable STOCK kernel I can flash so I can use Triangle Away and then just do the OTA update.. just frustrated as hell trying to troubleshoot everything.. I respect and thank all the devs I'm sure its either user error or my misunderstanding and knowledge. Never had this type of struggling with any devices from my HTC HD2, SGS2, SGS3, .. I'm just gonna chunk it up to being remedial or something and acknowledge defeat on this Device

If you are interested, I have debloated the Stock 4.3 ROM, rooted it and packed it with TMBBMD1 bootloader.
This ROM has the stock kernel, I have been running it for a while so far no issues. I am planning on uploading it on XDA.
If not, the easiest option would be to
1) Flash MrRobinsons, stock rooted TMBBMD1 ROM
2) Run triangle away to reset counter.
3) Uninstall SuperSU, this can be done from the application itself.
4) Perform a factory reset
Now your phone will be on stock 4.1.2 and if you check for updates you will get the 4.3 OTA.
