HELP! T-989 Cant Flash Another Rom - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hey I am new to this so I had a T-989 running on 4.1.2 or something and so I installed CWM and rooted it using the T-989 toolkit. Afterwards I forgot to wipe and installed CM10. I was stuck on the booting screen for 40 mins and when I tried to go back to CWM it didnt work. So using the same toolkit I flashed the stock ROM. The stock seems to be gingerbread 2.3.6 and now the toolkit will not recognize it. Please help. I want it to run on CM10

Forget the toolkit and do it manually. First do you still have root? Try installing twrp recovery , you will have much less problems. Or try cwm again and make sure you follow the steps provided. Usually it's wipe/format, then format system, flash rom, wipe dalvick, wipe cache partition, fix permissions, reboot.

Thanks for the info I was able to flash a 2.3.6 Gingerbread ROM onto my S2 using the toolkit and then from there on I had to reinstall the CWM and root and then using another guide I used the DarkSide wipe and reinstalled everything manually. Solved. Thank you.

Newbie help with VZN GN

So I decided to root my phone and upgrade to JB. But after I unlocked the bootloader, rooted the phone, flashed CWM Recovery and downloaded "Vicious JellyBean V2- No SU Zip necessary- Francos kernel and WiFi fix Zip" then went in to fastboot mode and installed it, my phone is hanging up on the new multicolored x splash screen and will not load. I waited 30 mins, I bricked it. So I went back into fastboot mode and reinstalled the JB, but still same thing.
So I am without a phone because I dont know what to do. :crying:
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!! TIA
what do you mean by fastboot mode. You should have been flashing it through clockwork. Did you wipe your data, cache and Dalvik cache before hand? Or make a nandroid backup before installing Liquid?
If not sounds as if you are going to need the toolkit or push the stock files via adb to flash back to stock then start again
Get this set up.
I don't feel like debugging for two hours via text and reply.
I'll recover as much as I can.
Edit:

Lol, meant to paste that link.
Once that's installed I'll remote connect to your PC and try to fix this.

I wiped with toolkit didnt cache or Dalvik cache. I have a replacement device coming today and want to try again. Is there a link to somewhere with step by step directions. I would assume the replacement device has factory settings so do I have to wipe, etc?

Manual Method
Toolkit Method
Just download a JB rom from the Development forum after you've unlocked bootloader, flashed a custom recovery, and have rooted your phone. Most are bug and glitch free...
I reflashed JB and it worked!!! Thanks guys!! Love JB

grats. next time, please dont incorrectly use the term 'brick'
brick = unable to turn on. no bootloader mode [fastboot], no recovery, no download.

[Q] TMO SGH-T989 cant wipe data, cant restore backup, cant do ANYTHING

SHG-T989 on TMO. I was running CM 9.0 but wanted to update to 9.1. NOW I CANT DO ANYTHING!!! Here is what I did:
1. Downloaded the CM9.1. 2. did a backup through CWM. 3. wiped data through CWM, "wipe data/factory reset. 4. wiped cache partition through CWM. 5. did a Darkside Super Wipe through "install zip from internal sd card" (last time installing CM9 i got stuck in the boot screen and had to go back using Darkside Super Wipe, reinstall CM9 and it worked fine). 6. Reboot to recovery. 7. installed CM9.1 through "install zip from sdcard". 8. installed gapps through "install zip from sdcard". 9. Reboot.
It came up and was stuck in the CM9 boot screen. So I went back in through CWM and tried to "wipe data/factory reset" and it wont work! Tried to go back to stock through Odin and it wont work! When i try to wipe data, the process starts and completes the "formatting /data, then gets stuck at formatting /cache. Does the same thing if I try to wipe the cache.
Im completely stuck and have no phone.
Which recovery version are you using? It might a corrupted recovery.
Try this recovery TWRP is cwm flashable:
SGH-T989_TWRP_v2.2.2.0.zip - 6.72 MB
Then TDJs super wipe and then install the stock ROM or any other ROM.

any updates to this? i'm having basically the exact same problem, formatting cache or anything to do with that partition freezes up on me.
using cwm 5.0.2.7 did a darkside super wipe, flashed on a JB rom (P.A.Cman), flashed gapps (20121011), wiped cache, wiped dalvik cache, rebooted then got stuck on boot animation. rebooted back into cwm to try and wipe again and reinstall, no luck got stuck on formatting cache.
loaded up my nandroid which went fine, ended up installing twrp instead to see if that would help, rebooted into recovery and was stuck on the "teamwin" blue screen and wouldn't go further multiple times. so, put cwm back on (6.0.1.5) to see if the updated version would work. nope, same thing- can't do anything with the cache partition.
any ideas??
luckily my phone still works fine with the backup i made. running aokp ics build 40, streamline #27 kernel, uvle1 radio. been running that setup since july with no real problems, just wanted to try out JB finally and seems now i can't
any help is appreciated! thanks!
edit: will try the above post^ later tonight, just thought i'd see if i could get some more options to try out. thanks.

Ok, the wipe scripts in CWM recovery v5 are broken! Got experience there because I got stuck on the PACman ROM boot animation.
So, for factory reset, use Darkside Super Wipe. Install zip from sdcard and choose the wipe. From there, install rom, then gapps, and then use the Darkside Cache Wipe. After that reboot and it should work (hopefully)
However the most important thing is that the wipes don't work in CWM recovery v6! It will do bad things!
So yeah, use super wipe to factory reset. Use cache wipe for cache. But follow the instructions to install the ROM.

Similar problem, but cannot make zips to work - HELP NEEDED
HI,
I hope you guys can help me. My T989 got stucked in the splash screen when I tried to update to a nightly CM10 ROM. I entered into Recovery MOde (ClockworkMod 6.0.2.7), then tried to use Darkside Super Wipe... but apparently the phone cannot open zip files. When I hit install zip from sdcard and then select one of the zips (I have tried different ones) it says "---Installing: /sdcard/sgh-t989_darkside.supe.wipe.zip"... but it does not move from there. After 3-4 minutes it reboots by itself and gets back to the splash animation, but never goes beyond that point.
I tried to sideload using ADB, but the phone is not recognized by my PC.
As you said, I think that the recovery mode is corrupted... but I cannot install a new version using a zip
Is there another way to reinstall a version of CWM that allows me to install zips so that I can follow the process you suggested (super wipe + installing ROMS)?
Help will be very much appreciated
Thanks for your time,
Enrique

Do NOT use that darkside superwipes with CWM recovery v6.X.X.X. Does bad things.
Use the scripts only for CWM v5.X.X.X.
Anyway, the damage is done and bad things have happened... So maybe check here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513359
Either that or you can search the forum and Google around and see what you can find. I am in by no means an expert, but depending if you can access the recovery mode or not might be the key here.
I wish you luck, and hope that you don't have a very expensive brick.

Use Odin. There is a tutorial on how to revert to stock GB (might be ICS) in the T989 development forum. It should be a sticky in that forum.
Ditto issues.. Thank good for search function. Read.. Read.. Read..

Tried your suggestion, but Odin won't recognize my phone
Hi there,
Thank you very much for the answer. I actually spent hours trying to find something before I posted my question. Even before posting I found and tried the method using Odin... but my phone is not recognized by Odin. I followed the instructions but on step 4 I actually do not get any "warning" screen... and then the phone is not recognized.
In the meantime, I can get into recovery, but I cannot install any zips. I have tried to complete a factory reset, but the process gets stuck at "Formating /cache..." and then reboots. When I try to install a zip (any zip, the radio, a new ROM, gapps,... any zip really) it gets stuck too.
Any other ideas? I really appreciate your help.

The only other possible option I can think is to try and install another recovery....
However!
I have no clue how to do it, and in the end you might just end up making the issue worse.... Like hard brick it.
I might think of something later, but I don't know what else I can do for you. I will search around, but no promises...
Best of luck to you

Ok try here possibly
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777970
I have seen a few posts saying that they just install this recovery and then restore a backup.
Ok to be honest, try restoring a backup first and see if anything happens there, and then try this thread.
However like before, this may make the problem worse! Proceed with caution and read and understand everything before attempting.
Hope you can get your phone back to functional!

samsung jig
Thanks again for the answer. A couple of days ago I tried to install a functional backup that I had from CWM... but it does not work It runs for a long while, then reboots... but it still freezes on the splash screen (my theory is that the backup is not recovered, as I know for sure that the ROM I backed up did work fine)... I think that CWM is corrupted and not working properly.
Then I tried the solution from the thread you mentioned... but adb cannot find the phone when it is connected
I found somewhere that I can use a samsung jig (microUSB with a resistance) to make the phone enter into download mode, then reinstall CWM using ODIN and then try flashing a stable ROM... What do you guys think?

I've heard about the jig method as well, but have no idea on how to go about doing it. Might be worth a shot. I don't think the jig costs that much anyway. I will see if I can find anything later.

[Q] Help unbricking soft bricked phone

Help
I have had my phone rooted for 3 months now so i decided to go to the next level and install a custom rom. I installed cynagenmod on my device via clock work mod.
Just to let you know i have CLOCKWORKMOD ASWELL
As i did it it installed correctly until i booted it and realized i was in a boot loop.
the cynagen mod would freeze half way through the boot.
I have tried odin but i'm not sure if i'm doing it wrong, is there any other software or things u can do. Is it possible to do it with clockwork mod, i had tried the update thing but it aborts and i can seem to get a rom that i can use that would help or is there a will load as a zip. is there any thing that you guys have done that unbricked ur wonder that you could share ?
Thank you for your time
just suggest., reboot to CWM and wipe data, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache.
if it can't solve the problem you should to flash custom ROM again via CWM and if it can't solve your problem again, just back to Stock.
Go to cwm
Wipe data
Wipe cache
Flash download zip custom rom
Flash gapps
And enjoy it

Cant Flash new ROMs anymore. Please help.

Okay, I searched before posting. Here is my steps.
I was on SKYNOTE 8.2 and wanted to go back to stock and see what At&t's update was about.
Once back to stock, I rooted my phone and have been on this setup for about 2 weeks.
I was in the original thread and saw the new 4.2.2 Collective AoCP / CM10.1 ROM.
I wanted to try it out.
Using TWRP's latest, followed all instructions and when rebooting it still has stock root ROM.
What am I doing wrong?
I thought it was TWRP so I went to an earlier ver, still no change.
I've tried 4 times now to flash this 4.2.2 Rom and nothing.
Factory Reset
Wiped Dalvik
Install Zip
Install gapps
It says to wipe cache and data again
then boot up
It boots up alright, right into my old phone.
Any input I can get is appreciated guys !!!! Thanks.
Copy the ROM to your device (some storage folder)
Boot directly to TWRP
Manually install the ROM and the appropriate GAPPS
(watch the script window and see what it says.. look for errors)
Clear caches and dalvik
reboot

Try wiping cache/delvik cache, then factory reset twice, then system wipe twice, Install .zip, Install GApps, then wipe cache/delvik again(don't wipe data after .zip is installed. That's how I always do it and it works great.
I think its my recovery Twrp. I changed something.

I have tried everything. Its got to be the recovery. No matter what I do in twrp, nothing changes. It says updating partitions and stimulating actions
. It also says successful. After updating to the newest twrp it started this. I changed something. ##[email protected] went into settings and reset....nothing. What if I flashed CWM and then went back to TWRP.

Okay guys....This has made me sick to my stomach.....I have tried all the different methods. I even soft bricked my phone today using CWM.
Kies wouldnt even fix my phone.
I had to download stock firmware and flash via Odin to get back.
Installed TWRP
Rooted
Went into recovery and wiped everything again
Installed the custom ROM
Rebooted
TWRP didnt do anything even though it says it did.
My phone boots up like normal with Att logo and works but no Custom Rom and no wipes.
What is this? Im going to try other things but wow, this is crazy.
On my SD card I have alot of stuff. I also have a folder named TWRP, it has a back up in there. I wonder if I should remove that?
IDK,,,,,Stuck with Stock root for now. Help If you can. Never had this issue before. What a day

Might as well try everything. wipe your sd card in twrp,if that doesn't work reformat through android when booted. Then copy the custom rom over and try again. Only other thing I can think to try is to check that all partitions that are needed are mounted, or try CWM instead.
Also, how did you install TWRP? Through the app? that is the best way to do it, I have had problems flashing twrp through CWM or through the computer. If you aren't already, use goomanager to install it. TWRP has instructions on their website
I figured it out!!!!!!!

[Q] G2 Stuck on CM Spash Screen Loop

Hey All,
Here's a basic synopsis of my issue: I just flashed CyanogenMod on my Sprint LG G2. Now when it boots - or attempts to - it hangs on the CyanogenMod Splash Screen with the spinning cyan arrow.
Here's some more detail:
I've been trying for a few days to get this to work, and I'm finally stumped. I learned the hard way about the LS980ZVA radio and how it's not compatible with non-ZVA ROMs, and whatnot, and I've restored my phone using a .tot 3 times. This most recent time I used the LS980ZV8.tot to enable me to flash CM.
Here's what I did:
Restored phone to LS980ZV8 using LG Flash Tools
Rooted using ioroot
Checked Root
Installed FreeGee Free
Used FreeGee to install CWM 6.0.7.4
Rebooted to recovery
Made a backup
Copied backup to PC
Copied CM-11-20140708-SNAPSHOT-M8-ls980.zip to root of internal storage
Flashed said CM-11.zip from 'sdcard' (It was in sdcard/0/ for some reason)
Rebooted
Got stuck at CM screen.
Did some research on Google
Went back into CWM
Cleared cache
Reflashed CM-11.zip from sdcard
Rebooted System
Stuck at CM screen.
Posted on xda-developers
Any ideas? I can't figure this out for the life of me. I've read something about flashing the boot.img from fastboot, but I can't figure out how to get into the fastboot on the LG G2, and besides that was for an HTC. If you need more info, let me know.
=====Phone Details=====
Carrier: Sprint
Model: LG-LS980
Software: LS980ZV8
Recovery: CWM 6.0.7.4
Rooted: Yes, with ioroot
ROM: Attempted to flash CyanogenMod (cm-11-20140708-SNAPSHOT-M8-ls980.zip)

Any ideas? I can't figure this out for the life of me. I've read something about flashing the boot.img from fastboot, but I can't figure out how to get into the fastboot on the LG G2, and besides that was for an HTC. If you need more info, let me know.

Did you do a full wipe? I would recommend TWRP recovery over CWM. I've used both, but for this phone I prefer TWRP. There are numerous threads with details on how to install it. If you prefer CWM make sure to factory reset/ wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, then flash your rom. Manually shut down your phone then reboot. I've flashed cyanogen Roms on several different phones and they can be finicky. if you choose TWRP then you would do wipe-advanced wipe- check boot, system, data, dalvik, everything except Internal storage. In same recovery session flash your CM rom. Hope this helps. Oh and I would recommend making a backup in TWRP as well if you choose it.

No I didn't do a full wipe. I'll take your advice and flash TWRP. I've been out of the Android scene for a couple years and I've had more experience with CWM, didn't know how well recommended TWRP was. I'll flash TWRP, make a new Nandroid, then follow your instructions. Thanks. I'll report back.
