Im using a MHL cable and while it DOES work , it essentially turns my phone into the freaking sun . The only time i have overheated my phone was using the MHL ....
Later on i tried using it without charging it and i was shocked to see that it DOES work without external power. It gets less hot and coupled with the screen standby root (turns off the backlight, for some reason MHL by default NEEDS the screen on) , it gets even more powerefficient and produces less heat. It still ranges from 40-46c depending on the app im streaming from (Netflix , Mobo player are not that demanding but XBMC is way more consuming)
I was wondering if its worth buying the Media Link HD . I have heard mixed opinion about this device.. first of all its still kinda expensive , i think the cheapest i have seen it is for 60usd . And some people say that Netflix quality sucks , others say its okay ... anyone has first hand experience with the device? ...
Compared to my cheap , lazy , 100usd chinese tablet im disappointed . My tablet has a minihdmi port and it works fantastic. Without charging it , it barely gets hot , the screen turns off automatically on the device and the battery is really nice (like 5-6 hours of netflix) not to mention i think im getting at least 1080i .
What do you use? whats your experience?
edit : i just tried to stream some more , this time using splashtop . I was able to use it for 40 minutes or so with the screen off app but then i had to stop because my 50c battery alarm went off . I know the One X can handle more but im not really comfortable with such high temps . BTW i wasnt even charging the device , so it went from 100 to 80% .
I think im just going to keep using my cheap chinese tablet for my occasional tv out needs ;_;

That's all; once I play like 10 mins with the new "Assassins Creed HD" game my HTC Trophy gets really hot... The temperature becomes so high so I have to stop play because looks like if the device were to die in heat.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem?
on a hd7 I have no problems , not getting hot at all even with wifi on .
Thank you for your fast response ceesheim.
So it must be just my phone or maybe the Trophy model...
Maybe I did the bad choice and I had to get the HD7 model instead. (never had problems with temperature on my HD2 massplaying anything).
But now the problem is serious, that game increases really a lot the temp on my device. I must say that I have wifi and bluetooth on the whole day (massive use of them) and maybe it can be related to the problem.
I will check without them on, anyway is scary how heat it becomes once I play it, and is strange because it doesn’t happens with other games like "The harvest"

I only had wifi on , bluetooth and gps was off , you could try that .
the phone shouldn't get hot, ever. maybe be a defective battery. ask for a replacement. free, of course.

eeeh don't know about that one. Phones get hot with extended usage of cpu or antenna. ****, your game consoles or pc's get hot when playing games...and they have fans...why wouldn't your fanless phone not?
You've never been on a long call and noticed that unit was hot by the time you got off?
I agree with ohgood, a phone shouldn't get hot, even after long play, unless overclocked or modified in any way. And 10 mins not an excuse at all. I never experienced anything like that and my wife plays 3D games on the iphone for hours, it just gets a bit warm. My Fuze is not even warm but all I play is Solitaire City / Chess. However, my definition of hot may be different from OP.
It is possible for a phone to get hot whilst its being used.
It might be a battery issue though as its mainly the battery that will get hot before any anything else.
Might want to check the battery.
Or get a replacement. Free. There should be no reason as for it to get hot... Although, my phone gets hot when using Wi-Fi Tether, but that's about it.

Hi,
I have an observation about Desire HD.
Whenever i play video for too long time or Use live streaming of some video like cricket match then mobile backside becomes overheated.
I am always forced to switch off and allow it to cool.
Is there any way to avoid overheating of Desire HD ?
Any information is appreciated.
thanks

Strange! that it's happening when you watch/steam videos...
Usually happens to me when I play Pro-Evolution Soccer 11 on it.
Never happens when I play videos though (and I play blu-ray rips - movies at times lol)
what temp r u getting?
Try underclocking the CPU
But the DHD shouldnt overheat... even when oc'd @ 1.5 GHZ (at least not so that it has to be turned off to cool down)...
It is hot only when I charge it....

+1 Is there an specific issue reason why this happens....i don't overclock
It might be a problem with the battery?
Where does it overheat? the middle, or somewhere else (Such as near the bottom of the device), and how much, if its slightly warm, its normal, if its hot (40 deg Celcius +) then it may be a problem with the battery
You should return it to warranty to get it checked out, else, if you don't have any, try changing the batteries / the charger
My DHD barely overheats at all while charging, its just pretty much cold unless used for a while, and even then, it only ever slightly heats up while playing intensive games and movies (720p)
You are describing two different problems here:
1) Overheating while watching videos
2) Overheating while streaming
Now, if overheating while watching videos from your SDcard, this means you did not optimize/convert your video for mobile. Decoding fullHD eats a lot of CPU (almost 100% use). What you can do here is re-code your video before watching. Take a look at http://handbrake.fr/
The second problem you are describing could have to do with old/mismatching Radio+RIL. What I suggest is to
- post info on your current config: what ROM, what Radio, what RIL are you running?
- search XDA for "Radio", "RIL" and read what is available and how to update.
- BEFORE you do anything, be sure to read. Take your time. For example, the RIL posted around here do not play nice with CM7 - research before you flash. I almost gave myself a heart attack yesterday, after I put on HM RIL on my CM7.1 - lost GSM radio, phone was like an iPod for a while (thank God, I fixed it)...
Cheers and happy flashing
I have liked this phone for a while and im thinking about buying it , anything i should know about?
Battery life is not good, apart from that it's an amazing phone.
Had mine for a week now, paid £200 and worth every penny. Full price though I would probably get an S3

Its one of the best phone over there at the market , all reviews for all newer phones are still comparing their's screens with HOX's screen
,itr really powerfull , no lag at all at any program , it has a lot of support when it comes to custom ROMs
it's screen will be so clear in direct sun light which at this same condition S3 will fall way behinde
but as it mentioned above it has a poor battery though where ever I go there is a usb charger , car charger, pc charger , other phones charger , as I'm using my brother S3 car kit to charge my phone , so battery inst such a big problem for me , though it can handle to stay all day with nearly 2 hours of screen on , an hour of music , an hour of internet using HSPA and it will still hold around 40-30% when you come back home after work,
and beside all above I think its the best looking phone at the market for now

I recommend aosp 4.2.2 but there's one thing, you need to go onto desktop mode on YouTube or else the controls go crazy.
Do you mean when you fully charge your kindle fire it takes a long time to fully charge?
Are you watching stuff or playing games while charging your device?on my nexus 7 I have played games and watched stuff while charging and it actually lost battery charge even though it was plugged in.otherwise it can't take 7 hours unless your battery is in really bad shape.

The kindle fire, from what I know doesn't have an HD screen unless you have the new kinde fire HD which I know you don't have because you said 'kindle fire 1st' but here's the link to the ROM:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2041694 and no offence but can you type that more clearly?
Hi all, i am looking for an android tablet to watch TV shows, YouTube and read the odd ebook.
Is the LG Gpad 8.3 still worth getting? I have seen them sell for around £60 and i like the fact that there is official linage support.
How good is the screen and speakers on this tablet? Any thing i should be careful of when buying it second hand? Any common faults or issues?
If I am correct i have been using this tablet for almost full 3 years, almost every day, up to couple of hours. I bought it for 200$. It's "okay" now days. It isn't that fast anymore, it heats up a lot if you push it to hard. I have problem with watching 720p60 videos on Youtube, and 1080p60 videos just freeze and you can hear only sound. With stock ROM i had random slowdowns, games and content just start to lag, but it stops after some time or a reboot. So i recommend a custom ROM. Speakers are loud, but they are on the back of tablet and i hate it. Sound often gets blocked by my flip cover. Even as an outdated device you can play some intense games like N.O.V.A. 3 with unnoticeable lag. 4500mAh Battery is "okay" when using the device, but on standby it can last maybe more than a month. I don't if it's me but sometimes touchscreen seem to be odd. Maybe it's because of my intense usage. I have dropped it few times from maybe about 1 meter, but no scratches. Maybe my case helped. Also, screen is great, but i see some like, bright little spots(about 3 of them), but they are not that bad. I don't guarantee it's for every device. For 60£ if it's great or near perfect condition it's an awesome deal. Another tablet that is great is Nvidia Shield Tablet, you can check it out.
