[Q] Anyways to increase designated internal memory for - HTC One X

Hello everyone,
As I have downloaded more and more apps I have noticed I seem to have run out of room in this section. This is not only preventing me from downloading more apps but more annoying preventing me from updating some current apps. I know I can uninstall some but that is less then ideal.
I have searched this site but most fixes look like they might be phone specific so I thought I would ask others with my device.
For information purposes I am running a cynanogenmod 10 build.
Any help would be greatful,
-Dexter

There is currently no way to expand internal app memory, but what you can do is move some apps over to the internal SD. Most game files are already stored in the internal SD, but APK's are mostly stored in the internal app memory. Some apps though do have a large executable. For instance Antutu Benchmark. Might wanna try cleaning app cache as well, could free you quite a bit of space

Installing software to device or memory card

I want to know what is your stand on installing things to the phone's memory or a memory card.
I actually have no bias versus either way, which is why I'm curious as to which is more efficient.
My choice is to install on memory card those apps that are heavy or do not have something directly related to do with WM OS, of course this way they take more time to wake up.
If you have enough device memory available install there those ones you use more frequent.
Programs that need to load @ startup on Device Memory & media player as they then take load of the music\video being played from SD Card.
Thanks for the advice guys.
I have smarttoolkit rc09, and neo titanium panels on the device, and everything else like skyfire on my memory card.

Low internal memory

Ive read through dozens of threads asking this very question. Is there anyway to avoid having all of your internal memory sucked up by the great unknown? Im running defrost with all my apps installed on the microSD card.

Don't think this is possible because some application data is partially stored in the phone in /data/data/* too. Nothing moves /data/data to SD card, because this would result in instability and generally poor performance. You could move the app and dalvik-cache to SD with less trouble, but /data/data is buggy, so that stays on the phone.
Download Cache cleaner like CacheCleaner or CacheMate from the Marketplace, this will free up some space for you.

Thanks for the tip!
Freed up about 4 MBs. Hmm... Maybe I've adopted Android a wee bit too soon. Figured they'd have something as fundamental as this solved by now.

It is a common misconception that this is somehow Androids "fault".
Quite simply - it isn't. It is the hardware manufacturers who are not building enough physical storage into the device. There's absolutely no reason, other than cost, why someone couldn't build a phone with more memory available for apps etc - in fact, the Dell Streak has 2gb space for apps which is likely to be more than enough.

Good point. I was too quick to stack all the blame on Android. What would be SUPER cool is a phone with dual MicroSD slots. That way, one could be dedicated to apps and one to mounting, unmounting / whatever.
Can we repartition the mtd like the g1 users can?

cause i think for those who are not using sense ui, there is a lot of space unused on the system partition that can be transfered to data partition for our apps.

[Q] A question about program storage

I have just recently gotten a new HTC EVO from Sprint and even though it came with an 8GB micro SD card, I was dismayed to learn that it comes with very little internal storage (~277 MB with default apps installed). Android 2.2 is installed on the device, which does allow some of the newer apps to be installed on the SD card, but there are a lot of older apps that can't be moved to the SD card due to Android's original security.
It got me to think about a similar situation I used to have with my Palm Treo. We had an external SD card, but no real way of using it. Then came PowerRun, a utility that allowed us to offload apps to the SD card while not in use, and reload them to system memory and executed upon relaunch automatically.
My question is, could it be possible for the wizards here at xda to come up with a similar utility for Android systems? I know there would be limitations, such as running processes and other system programs that need to remain in internal memory, but it seems to me that other non-essential games and apps could be offloaded to the SD card and deleted from system memory and only leave behind a launcher icon that would call the launcher app that would reload the app on the SD card back into internal memory, then launched. This would free up the internal memory for max efficiency. Could this be possible?
See the original PowerRun for Palm OS system here for the basic idea behind it at simple-palm.com/powerrun/index-e.html
Interesting idea indeed. There is already a great deal of effort in this area of freeing up internal phone memory. A2SD, Dalvik2Cache, and firerat's partition resizing are some great ways to increase internal phone memory by moving things around and optimizing the usage of what we have.

[Q] Available internal memory for applications?

Hi all,
my wife owns a Wildfire S since a couple of days.
But I am quite disappointed about the amount of available memory (internal storage) for applications.
She does not have a lot of applications installed (about 5), but the available is only about 93 MB.
When going to "Settings - Applications - Manage Applications" it shows me at the bottom of the screen "Internal Storage: 57MB used, 93MB free".
The phone specs state RAM 512 MB and Internal Storage also 512MB. Why is it showing only 140MB in reality?
Can someone explain this, please?
Is this normal?
How much available storage do you guys have on yours, please?
(Btw, also via "Settings - Storage" it shows "92,07MB as available space" on internal storage)
The phone is a T-Mobile branded one from The Netherlands.
Thanks in advance.
Mine got 512MB internal storage as well, but i think that the OS uses some space that don't show up. Have you tried moving apps to the SD card?
Moving apps to SD indeed does free up some memory, however...
I have only installed a few apps (less then 10mb all together), therefore I am quite disappointed with the little available memory.
The phone is a dutch Tmobile version. I can see there are a few Tmobile apps built-in into the rom, but surely they can't take up that much space, could it? (Adding up used + available internal storage only totals about 150mb, which is far from the 512mb as in the specs?)

Same issue! I got mine yesterday and after barely installing anything. Im low on internal memory and it adds up to 140mb not 512.
Btw android, sense and other HTC things take up that memory. It is only 512mb when there is nothing on the internal memory.
Same issue here. Quite a disappointment and no way to really solve it.
Hello all, search 'darktremor app2sd' in this xda website

Im amazed at how little memory this phone has. After 2 days and 5 apps its basically completely out of space. I liked the smaller form factor but this is ridiculous.
U can move all of ur apps to SD if u want...and it doesn't even require rooting...i was also having problem with this whole low internal memory thing..but i found this...
its quiet simple really...it does help a little...with this u can use "move to SD card" option in application settings for nearly all the apps..
Hope this helps..
PS : u can use an app called android tool box..its really useful..it has many options like app manager, cache cleaner, file explorer, start up manager and many more..it is quiet handy when u'r low on Ram or space..

[Q] something better than link2sd for stock rom?

I'm using the stock kernel and, of course, facing issues with the small internal memory. I'm using link2sd, but it still leaves a fair amount of data in the internal memory (ie, 16 mb for Asphalt 6, 14 mb for Facebook, 13 mb for Flash, a couple of mb for many other apps), so I'm always with a somewhat limited space for applications.
So I wonder if there is something capable of moving far more data to the SD card, so I don't need to worry about having enough room for apps. I was looking at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spazedog.mounts2sd but it mentions init.d support, and googling about all that stuff doesn't really explain it in more layman terms.
Thanks in advance
You cant be using Link2Sd properly then. It leaves virtually nothing in the internal memory. I had a 32gb SD card full of games and still had about 200mb free internal memory. When you create a link are you trying to move the apps to SD afterwards as they should show as being on internal?
Well, I have it set up to link automatically on application install, and to link application, dalvik-cache and libraries. The install locationis set to external and I have ticked the check boxes to relink libraries and dex files at startup.
To test it, I've unistalled Facebook and reinstalled. Once the app finishes installing, I get the link2sd notification that it's linking it to the SD. I login to my account and once I go to the application settings to check the app size, it reports a total of 31,33 MB, of which 23,56 MB correspond to the aplication and 7,77 MB to data. And has the option to move to the SD so it's certainly in the internal memory.
Link2SD storage info reports the internal memory (380 Mb total, 15% free), the Sd card (12% free) and the sd card's second partition, at /data/sdext2, with 712 MB total, of which 390Mb are used.
Sorry for bumping, but is the link2sd behaviour I'm describing normal behaviour then?

Yes, it does appear to be normal behaviour. Try going into the Link2SD app and see if it says whether the app is linked or not. I've had instances where my apps don't get linked even after running the process. When you check the application size in settings (not in Link2SD), the application size will remain unchanged as I think Link2SD treats your partition as internal storage and therefore it still shows the application as it's full size as opposed to how much of it is actually on your internal storage

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
