Customisation apps/widgets? - Nexus 4 Themes and Apps

Which ones are worth buying/getting? I have Apex Launcher Pro and I want to get a accurate (As in has as accurate as can be location/weather forecasts for the UK), minimalistic weather app that can be used with UCCW so recommendations would be good. Any other apps I should look at? I know a lot of people use things like WidgetLocker, Beautiful Widgets etc. but they seem a little expensive.

Eye In Sky is a good, minimalistic and configurable weather app/widget. It's also free as an ad supported version. (BTW: Beautiful Widgets is often on sale, so keep an eye out for that)
WidgetLocker is worth it's asking price IMHO, if you need/want a fully customizable lockscreen. Never looked for another one after I bought it. If you don't want to invest the money, GO Locker might be an alternative for you. It's not as configurable as WidgetLocker though.
Other widgets I use for customization are Minimalistic Text and Missed It!.
If you want to get some inspiration what can be done with these, check out mycolorscreen.com. (my screens can be found here for instance but it's mainly older stuff)

You can always wait and see if they go on a Christmas sale.
Beautiful Widgets is definitely worth the ~$2 IMO. Not very expensive for a widget that you'd use on a day to day basis.

FYI: Beautiful Widgets is currently on sale for 50% off. So now might be the time to get it
Send from my secret moonbase via space carrier pigeons

and HD Widgets is $0.99 if you're interested in that, i prefer Beautiful widgets. but yeah
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwyLDEsIm5ldC50c2FwcHMuYXBwc2FsZXMiXQ.. is a nice app to have at this time. tells you all the deals for apps+games

minimalistic text. i use the free version and loved it. MissedIt, a launcher of your choice, Widgetlockr, uccw, and phantom music control if you don't feel like putting a million widgets on your screen/lockscreen.
i got AccuWeather when it was on sale. for me, a notification is enough since it's 1 swipe away.
mycolorscreen is an amazing place for inspiration or just copying, also a good place to learn of the wonderful customization apps.

[Q] Is it worth getting Launcher Pro Plus?

I haven't really used Launcher Pro much because I have been perfectly fine with TW but I kinda want to customize my home screen a bit more.
How much customization does LPP have and is it worth it to drop money on it?
Yes, without a doubt. The widgets are amazing and IMO this is the best launcher out there.

The only thing I never liked about Launcher Pro is how there aren't different pages for your apps. Just one long scrolling section. I have no idea why but it just doesn't look nice to me.
Its worth it just to get the annoying pop up telling us to buy launcher pro plus, lol. (long press on a widget and then release without moving it)
It has some cool widgets but I don't use them. It lets you stretch out any widget to any size, that's probably the most important thing for me. Especially if you are running like a 5 x 5 icon setup where you need widgets like beautiful widgets to take up the whole width of the screen.
They need some buyer control though, all you need to enter the key is the key and the donators email, so you could potentially enter it on all of your friends phone. They should make it so you need to download a new version from the market to replace the existing one.
YES. IT IS!
I've been using the themed LPP version here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=783427
7 home screens (Friends, Messaging, Calendar and GMAIL widgets take up 4 of them)
Its awesome. easily customizable, and 5x5 is great too...
LLP honeycomb themed, with Midnight 5.2, and HK-Fusion
Worth it IMHO. Widgets are actually useful; developer just added a new gmail widget with more to come. Theming system is a bit kludgey, but the developer has a major rewrite coming in the near future.
I love it. I think it's the best app I've purchased for Android. It's also pretty easy to theme.

First off, let me say, I believe it is definitely worth purchasing LPP as well as ADW EX. Both developers (like so many XDA developers in any of the forums here) really help make Android what it is. Dropping a few bucks here or there is a great way any non-developer can help invest in the success and future of Android modding.
That out of the way, I have used both ADW EX and LPP for a while each. I was firmly in the LPP camp for a long time until I tried Go Launcher.
I find the Go launcher to be quicker/snappier, less memory intensive and more customizable (more transition animations (outside cube and inside cube are a nice touch!)) and it is completely seamless swiping from your last screen to your first screen.
So, it really comes down to personal preference. Someone may like the endless task bar of ADW EX, the widgets of LPP or the small footprint of Go or Steam. And the beauty of Android is that no two setups of the same launcher is ever the same.
Just my $0.02.
if you like it then its worth supporting the developer. theres not much difference from the free version the pro, but again if you like why not donate. It just motivates for him to work on better projects for us.
This thread made me purchase LPP, just now. It's the smallest of things that make it worth it, to me. But it's absolutely worth it.

I have to disagree, the widgets that you get with the pro version, plus the ability to resize widgets is well worth the money for pro, and makes LP so much better.

I used to be a die hard LPP user until I discovered Go Launcher as well. I prefer the swipe options that go has over LPP's widgets as well as the smaller footprint. The developer of LPP is great though. I still use his Folder Organizer app in conjunction with Go Launcher.
So I went ahead and got the regular launcher pro for now. How do I go about customizing things? Still now sure if I want to go Plus.

Most of the customization comes with the Plus version, but the ones you can play with are under Menu/Preferences.
I guess what I'm looking for is a custimized app drawer and a widget that tells the weather and date, which I'm not sure if LPP has so maybe I need to get beaytiful widgets or something like that.

Use Go Launcher with Beautiful Widgets
Went I purchased Beautiful widgets and It isn't exactly what I was looking for. Simi Clock is actually more of what I was looking for. Bummer, just waisted a couple bucks.

Beautiful widgets has many configuration options and probably 100 different skins. You can make it "exactly what your looking for".

I will have to play with it I suppose. Thanks for letting me know I didn't waste some money
Where is a good place to look for all the skins?
edit:
I also tried GO Launcher EX and it was terribly slow.

HTC sense clock/weather replacement

I like the default HTC Sense clock/weather but it is so large it takes up a lot of real estate on the home screen. Is there a smaller replacement that still maintains the same look and all the functionality? I found a "Sense Analog Small Clock 4x1" in the market and its fine, but the weather has to be a zipcode entry. It wont just use your "current location" like the native HTC sense widget does. This would be a nice function but it seems to be absent in 3rd party clock & weather apps.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Beautiful Widget allows for resizing and has multiple skins.

Checked them in the market. Their clock/weather widget does support geolocation apparently. So I guess it would autoupdate to wherever you were at like HTC's native sense widget. It looks fairly large though, at least 4x2. What I really need is 4x1 like the small sense app.
Update: I just saw some 1x4 shots in the android market site so it looked like it has this size. The only other problem is its not free but I can deal with that.
Beautiful widgets is exactly what your looking for. I run it often in 4x1 and it looks great. Plus there are over 100 different clock and weather skins. Really nice app and well worth it.

HD Widgets vs. Beautiful Widgets on GNex

What would you buy? HD Widgets or Beautiful Widgets?
HD Widgets got an update today and are on sale now. Not sure if it is a good deal.
Maybe somebody tried both?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I have both. I only use HD Widgets because it's very polished. Beautiful Widgets allows you to install different themes for the widgets, which is awesome, but when I used it the selection was unappealing to me. I'm sure there are more themes now, though.
Never used HD Widgets, but Beautiful Widgets has a loooot of themes.
Here's my home screen widget just for reference. I'm using the full screen widget for the Galaxy Note (5x5).

I've had beautiful Widgets since my Droid 1, 2 years ago.
I like it, and for $3 I really got my use out of it. After getting my nexus though, the screen is so brilliant, I kind of don't want to take up half that space with a clock widget. I think I might just finally be done with clock apps, I do remember trying HD widgets way back in the day and deciding on Beautiful Widgets.
I guess for me, I say BW only because I know what I'm getting, and the themes are great. It's really easy to get away from the default HTC look.
I also have both but the new HD Widgets beta version the weather does not work.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
For my Nexus I'm using BW since it has a lot of customisation options (although I really hate how the location name disappears under the weather icon for places with long names). I have HDW as well which I use on my Transformer Prime since BW has awful scalability for large screens. I very much prefer the widget layout of HDW but I can't find a theme on it that I really like over BW.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk 2
i too have both...BW for phone, HDW for tablet
i hadn't had HDW on my phone in ages and installed the latest 'update'...it was crashing ALL day, even without an active widget i was getting a "hd widgets has crashed" popup, but worse than that for me, the widget was only displaying in farenheit even though i'd selected celsius, which makes it totally useless gibberish
i won't be updating to the new version on my tablet
I have also bought both of them. Beautiful Widgets feels like it works better for a phone interface because the 4x2 Clock/Weather widget looks like it fits better on the screen and is highly themeable (for us who flash new themes and ROMs frequently).
I use HD Widgets for my tablet as the giant clock/weather widgets fit the screen much better than Beautiful Widgets does and the transparency and light theming works on my tablet as i don't flash with it nearly as much.
Just my thoughts
As with some posters above, I am a long-time BW owner, going back to the early days of the OG Droild. I loved it back then. Now, the look of those big clocks with overly-dramatic weather icons looks so 2009 to me.
After getting the GNex, I just couldn't devote so much homescreen space and I didn't want something that looked so "tired" to me, so I bought Make Your Clock Widget Pro. I designed a minimalistic "clock" widget and it's been in service on my GNex for months now. For me, it's perfect, and it's unique - just what I want, how I want it - nothing else.
Consider escaping the BW/HD Widgets look, and just go make your own.
Here’s a screenshot…
Thanks!!!
Make your clock is totally great!
I installed a free version and one widget even works. And this is ok for me.
Not sure if weather works. But I will check that later. Clock was a priority.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
You are welcome!
Nice design btw!
HD Widgets beta 3.0.1 latest play store update keeps crashing an constantly sending crash reports to google, chewing the fu#k out of my battery life with crash reports every 2 minutes even with widget removed.

I use Beautiful widgets.

[Q] Weather Widget

I am looking for a good, stable, non-spyware-including weather widget that is about half-screen and has forcasts for the upcoming days on the front screen. The "news and weather" widget included with the phone is too small. Anyone have any favorites? I would try a bunch but I don't want to junk up my phone if I don't have to.
First app I ever paid for and worth every penny. eWeather
Beautiful widgets. Have some nice clocks widgets too
Beweather pro is 99cents today. I believe it does that. Still my favorite weather app. I am going to buy that right now actually.
The only whether widget I would ever pay for is BEAUTIFUL WIDGETS on the app store. Try the free version first to check it out. It's AMAZING!
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Both Beautiful Widgets and HD Widgets are really nice.
Though not a widget, RadarScope is the absolute best app as far as looking at real-time weather radars.

Calender widget

Will the calender widget or any other app from the original stock Evo ROM work on the newer Jelly Bean ROM? I really like it and hope to use it. I want to know if they are compatible since it's just an older app.

You mean from stock? No, no sense based app's or widgets will work on any of the ics/jb roms, only GB sense roms.

Thats what I thought but I wasn't sure. I read that all of the sense apps are designed to run with the Rosie Scroll. I just wanted to make sure. Thank you.
The stuff on the market sucks. Does anyone know of a full page Google calender widget, or one that is compatible with it? I"m having trouble locating one.

I personally use Business Callendar. The widget is better then sense in a lot of ways. (smaller text, more on the screen, and like 15 different color palates). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=netgenius.bizcal That's the free version. Paid version was the app of the day on amazon market a while back. So I can't comment on the ad's, because I have the paid version. Try the free version first and if you like it....
A couple other favorites of people...
Calengoo https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.calengoo.android I didn't care for the widgets (unless they have been updated), but will also synch google tasks.
Pure Calendar Widget.. EXTREAMLY customizable
- Agenda view https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.koxx.pure_calendar
- Calendar view https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.koxx.pure_grid_calendar
They also have a few other cool widgets.
Also, some of the launchers have pretty cool built in widgets. Go Launcher, Launcher pro plus. Seems like there was another couple also.

Yep, that Business Calendar is the business.... Ha... Did you buy the paid version? What features are unlocked? I just downloaded the free version yesterday, but I haven't had much time to play with it yet. I'm having phone issues. Tell me what you like about it and if I should spend the $4.99 for it.
It was the free app of the day about 9 months ago on the Amazon Appstore, so I have the full version. Best parts of the paid app (besides no ad's) is more widget themes and a dark theme for the actual app instead of the light theme. Has some other things also, like linking certain contacts to events, drag and drop for some things, and making a template for events.
Personally, I just REALLY like the widget. Best calendar widget I've found.
I would highly recommend "Agenda Widget for Android."
Highly costomizable and free. The only draw back is that it isn't like the stock evo calender widget what displays the whole month.
