[Q] SGH-i317m Canadian VS SGH-i317 US - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hey guys just finally rooted my Canadian Rogers Galaxy note 2 (sgh i317). Once after I rooted it I used CWM to back up and install NOTEorius ROM to give me Multi Window function (we dont have multi view in canada). So after I did all that I noticed my SGH-i317M turned into the US version SGH-i317 (no M). Is this of any concern? I'm worried that I may get charged for roaming/long distance because rogers may think I'm in the US or something? Another issue is my LTE dissappeared, I have 4G, but LTE speeds are there. so what gives??
I rooted using - web page Galaxynote2root DOT COM - under easiest method to root
Noteorius ROM - web page Galaxynote2root DOT COME - under ATT ROMS

Custom Roms - 4G = LTE, 3G-= 3G
You wont get roaming charges, dont worry- see what APN settings you are using, they are rogers
If you are that worried and want it to say LTE and install CleanRom 3.5, which has rogers option, rogers kernel

ROM difference between i927 & i927R and 4G symbol

Hi,
Being in Australia the Captivate Glide is not available locally so ordered it online via a parallel importer.
I was supposed to receive the AT&T version but due to no stock I received the Rogers i927R version.
I cannot root the device as my work place prevents it since I need to use it for work related messaging.
1. Is there a list of differences between the AT&T and Rogers ROM's ?
2. I'm on Optus which uses 900/2100MHz, so the phone will connect on 2100.
Using an App called Network Signal Info I can see data connection switching when I'm moving around as normal, but the data symbol in the notification bar doesn't match when on 3G as follows:
NetInfo | Speed | Notif-Bar-Symbol
GPRS | 55kbit | G
UMTS (3G) | 384kbit | 4G <-- doesnt say 3G
HSDPA | 7.2Mbit | 4G
This a bug or ROM incompatibility ?
Thanks.
The only differences I know of is that the Rogers ROM is carrier-iq free and the tethering option is unlocked.
In my AT&T version, I can't find any way to manually toggle between 2G and 3G networks. However the network info apps/widget show it's automatically switching between EDGE, HSDPA and HSPA.

It would be handy to sometimes by able to force 2G to save battery.
Anyway, can the Rogers ROM be flashed onto the AT&T Glide and still work ?

Good point.
Sounds like I should stick with the Rogers one they sent me rather than swap it for an AT&T version since the Rogers one will be most compatible without having to 'root'.
Carriers in Australia seem to allow tethering by default as long as you have a working App for it.
Thanks.
Which parallel importer did you use, do they have an online storefront?
Hope the Rogers version pricing comes down as fast the AT&T one. That's I went for At&T, down the line I'll end up flashing it with an open ROM. Mostly because of OpenVPN support.

Indeed that's why I asked, since I don't use any data packages.
I checked my mom's S II, appears to be an AT&T carrier limitation. It won't even scan for other networks. I set her S II to 2G.
Earlier I wasn't concerned with the AT&T ROM, but this one is annoying, I could save some serious battery time by switching to 2G.

They've been very helpful and responsive, trying to get stock as quickly as possible.
When they couldnt get the AT&T Captivate Glide they sent me the Rogers Galaxy S Glide.
Seems that was the better way to go.
AT&T locks down their network and band select while Rogers does not. AT&T uses an "H+" on the HSDPA network to show status while Rogers uses a "4G".
Learned by flashing Rogers ROM onto an ATT cglide. Changed the model to 927R as well. Went back to ATT when I noticed the loss of the ATT wifi options.

So even after rooting the phone, there's no way to manually change bands while on the AT&T ROM?

Which WiFi options? Is the Rogers ROM disabling some WiFi options?

I'm using the Rogers version in Australia.
I have all the normal WiFi options and have used it at home and on public ones with no issues.
I think, just guessing, that Tynar is talking about the customized WiFi options on the AT&T ROM I have read about which gives you access to their own WiFi network.

Yep, I since had a look at the User Guides, of which there is a different one for each version Rogers and AT&T. The ROM's have been customized to show different symbols for mobile connectivity.

Ya... Thats at&t limitation, I guess... But atleast in my sister's AT&T Thrill phone (running Froyo + rooted with SuperOneClick) the "NETWORK" app (LINK) from AM/PlayStore works and helps in selecting 2G only or 3G only whenever needed...
But even that app is NOT working on my rooted CapGlide... May be because this phone has only rooted-ROM and not rooted-Kernal (as told by rooting guide in cap.glide development section)... Experienced members please help... I badly need 2G only for battery backup and 3G only for good speed as 3G coverage in my place is not great...
Thanks...

With AT&T Rom, you don't have that option.
You can flash Rogers Room (Untouched or Custom Rom) where you have the option of manually choosing network and choosing 2G/3G
Switching to 2G would really save on battery life.
So the notable differences are...
1. The AT&T ROM doesn't allow band switching or manual carrier search and selection. While the Rogers ROM does not have this restriction?
2. AT&T allows WiFi tethering, while Rogers doesn't?
3. Both versions come with Mail for Exchange apps?
4. Skype, G+ Hangouts, Google Talk, Voice and video works on both?
Please add/correct any other big differences. I'll make a table and put it up on Wikipedia once we have the notable differences, that could cause issues with international use.

Tmo radio for at&t s3

I'm curious. I recently had an unlocked at&t note that I used on tmobile. I was also using a tmobile modem which enabled me to get 4g instead of edge. Now I have an unlocked at&t s3 that I am using on tmobile. Am I able to flash one of the tmobile modems for the s3 to my unlocked at&t s3? I know it would be easier to just get a tmobile s3 but I had a note 2 and it got destroyed so I had to grab a phone fast and I got a great deal on this at&t s3 so I'm stuck with it for now. I already have the tmobile modems just want to be sure if its safe to flash first. Don't want to brick my phone. Any help is appreciated and thank you in advance to anyone who may have an answer for me.
sent via nexus 7 in boss made @ quad core 1.7 ghz
you could check your radio settings preference *#*#4636#*#* using the stock dialer and try wcdma preferred
it would be in the Device information area. scroll down under set preferred network type
other way with JB would be Settings>More settings>mobile networks>Network mode
there it has less choices.... I have LTE/GSM/WCDMA (auto mode) selected there.
Or:
If the code does not trigger the Testing menu, get Phone Info from the market it's free and gets you to that settings menu.
Good Luck!

[Q] LTE is gone, help wanted!

Hi, Im using a model i317M, I modified it to work with AWS network, and the 4G icon on the task bar still showed up. Then I rooted the phone, and installed an international ROM (which is tested and can be installed for all models), to have a multiscreen function. After that, I can only connect to 3G network, the 4G icon is gone, and never showed up. I'm wondering what happened to it, and my network mode is still the same in the setting, which is "LTE/GSM/WCDMA(Auto Mode). If I installed the stock ROM will it come back? And can I do anything to get the 4G icon back without install any ROM? Thanks to you all! Really appreciated that in advance!
Some roms just don't have the 4G icon even when you're getting 4g.

If you are using International ROMs on your 317m, make sure they are based on 7105 and not 7100. The 7100 doesn't support LTE.

[Q] new ROM... my old 4g is all 3g and my old lte is now all reg. 4g. {HELP}

Hey guys! this is my first post on here and i need some help... I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 i747 and i rooted it, and put CM10.2 on it last night, everything went on fine however i used to have 4g everywhere and 4g LTE at my office, i noticed that CM10.2 doesnt support 4g for the S3(i dont know why...), so i cleared everything again and i put SlimBean build 5 on it.. still, my data is degraded one level.
my friend has the exact same phone but on verizon and his is working perfectly fine with SlimBean 5, i did use the AT&T version for the files on my phone. my Network Mode under system network settings is set to LTE/GSM/WCDMA and my APN is set to ATT (wap.cingular).. i tried the APN of ATT LTE (pta) and nothing changed..
any help on this is greatly appreciated!
again its an AT&T Samsung Galaxy s3 i747
did you reboot after you changed apns? have you tested the connection with an app like speedtest.net?
What is the icon by the signal bars? 4g? H+? Have you tried flashing the latest JB modem?

[Q] AT&T ROMs on T-Mobile

So I'm going to buy a T-Mobile Galaxy S4 tomorrow. I'm locked onto AT&T for a few more months (so I'll unlock this new one and buy it out right). When done I'm going T-Mobile (or Straight Talk).
Either way, there's a ROM developer over there who's ROM I really like that he's developing for the AT&T S4 (ShoStock) and I'd like to know since it's essentially similar hardware should it be a simple flash over?
I'm coming from an AT&T S2 and I know it was simple "hellraising" the International ROMs and they'd work on the AT&T variant. Can we do the same with the S4 (since they are essentially similar hardware minus additional radios on the T-Mobile variant).
Thanks!!! :laugh::good:

As soon as you get your Tmobile Galaxy S4 Unlocked you will be able to flash the AT&T ShoStock rom without any problems.
It will not need hellraiser or anything else and it can be flashed just like any other custom rom using CWM or TWRP recovery..
The only thing you will loose by flashing any AT&T rom on an Unlocked Tmobile phone is the free wifi calling feature.
All the Tmobile Galaxy S4 custom roms have the wifi calling feature in them.
If you flash any of the AT&T custom Galaxy S4 roms none of them will have the wifi calling feature.

Gotcha. What's the free Wifi calling feature? I won't be a T-Mobile customer for a few months and still on AT&T's network so I don't think I'd benefit from it.

I've been flashing AT&T AOSP based roms on it... I've been flashing AT&T sense roms on my T-mobile HTC One.. I haven't flashed AT&T TW ROMs on my Tmobile galaxy s4, but as I mentioned, I've been flashing AT&T AOSP based roms on my tmobile galaxy s4 with no issues at all.
I have ALSO been flashing TW i9505 ROMs with no issues at all. (which is probably more applicable to your question)
I'm on AT&T but have these tmobile devices for complicated reasons.
Best results i've had with my HTC is flashing international roms and selecting T-Mobile as my device type in AROMA, then once in the ROM, i just fix the APN to "ATT Phone" for full LTE speed, etc.
Same goes for i9505 TW ROMs on the GS4. The reason I bring this up is that I could never get WiFi hotspot (internet connection sharing) to work on either t-mobile phone when choosing AT&T as my carrier in AROMA (well that's not entirely true, it seems radio-related. older roms were fine, but then with a recent base-change, I encountered this issue with hotspot). I found by choosing T-MOBILE in AROMA, and then disabling wifi calling when in-ROM (to avoid the nags about invalid SIM type) and changing APN to ATT Phone, I have everything working perfectly.
I hope this helps you.
This is the WiFi calling feature:

If you have any tmobile plan you have a certain amount of anytime minutes, with free wifi calling whever you use it, it does not
subrract from those anytime minutes. I am usually home which means that 90% of the time that I use my phone I use wifi calling
and it does not reduce the number of minutes I have on my plan.
Wifi calling is really great, even if you leave it on all the time the phone switches automatically to normal cellular mode if it looses
the wifi connection.
Then when a wifi is connection is within reach, it starts using that again automatically which makes it really easy to use.
So for all practical terms, I leave my wifi calling on all the time. If I drive away from home the regular GSM/3G/4G etc. turns on.
Best of all the quality of the incoming and outgoing call audio is exactly the same using wifi or using the cellular network.

LTE is now available for both AT&T and Tmobile LTE capable phones. Even an unlocked Tmobile S3 can now get LTE data
in a lot of the larger cities.
One of my friends has an unlocked AT&T S3 phone and he is on the Tmobile network so he always flashes tmobile custom
roms, when he flashed a tmobile rom which came with the aroma installer he selects "Tmobile" since he is a tmobile customer.
If he would select AT&T in the aroma installer he would not get LTE data or 4G unless he changes his APN to tmobile's APN.
In fact, next time you flash a Tmobile rom without the aroma installer to an unlocked AT&T phone with an Tmobile sim card
you will see that it will automatically display the proper Tmobile APN after flashing without the need to change it.
Same thing holds true if you have a unlocked Tmobile phone and a AT&T sim card and flash a AT&T rom without the
aroma installer when it gets done flashing and reboots the phone when you check the APN it will have the AT&T APN
displayed automatically too.
Before I got my Tmobile S4 I had a AT&T Unlocked S3 I747 phone and when I switched to the Tmobile network and put
the Tmobile sim card in the phone while I still had a AT&T custom rom flashed in the phone everything worked fine and
when I checked the APN it displayed "T-Mobile US" without the need to change the apn.
So from then on, when I flashed any custom tmobile rom with the aroma installer and selected "Tmobile"
and the phone always had the correct APN in it after flashing without the need to manually change it.
When I flashed a tmobile custom rom without aroma installer after flashing it also displayed the proper tmobile apn.
