Upgraded to the Note 2 from a note 1...
Love the speed and colours of the screen, nice new shape of the SPEN, battery life and overall fluidity of the Jelly bean straight out the box.
1) Now what I do miss is the standard Smemo and widget, for some reason the Snote on the Note 2 is a lot slower, I used to use an smemo widget which opened a lot faster than this new setup, can I install the older lighter Smemo ?
2) The Spen seems very responsive which is nice, but sometimes it is a little over responsive, opening or selecting things without me touching the screen, can I adjust this?

Hi,
Answer to you first question, there are custom roms out there that allows you to choose what to install into you rom, and smemo is one of the options, you can also get the app from the rom and push it by yourself.
Second question, my friend also got that problem, surprisingly he dropped the spen on to the floor and it was fixed (lucky him). I have read many threads in here about people having the same problem as you, and they went to samsung and get the pen replaced, i think this is the best way. just reset counter and restock if you have rooted your device

Will it ever come to our device?
I come from international note 1 forums where cm10 was plentiful lol! Nah for-real though.I read around a lot and from what I gathered its gonna be near impossible till Samsung releases a proper source code... smh... correct me if I'm wrong.
I thought cm 10 was basically jb and jb is what our phone has. . And does man or hasn't even been a week yet and yet we are already rooted and have several custom roms to choose from.

There a couple of threads going about this on the international forums - In a nutshell, the official maintainers of exynos devices are fed up with Samsung's lack of release proper source. Until that happens, the best we can expect is a port/KANG.
Here's one particular thread where Entropy weighs in on his thoughts:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941039
There's another one buried in the International general forums but I can't seem to find it at the moment.
EDIT - I don't know why you'd want AOSP on this phone, though. It's so buttery smooth and Touchwiz adds a lot of benefits on this phone - even more so when the Multiview patch gets pushed to us. I'd just wait for an AOSP theme and just flash that.
In answer to your question..

As someone who's come from AOSP I can't see why anyone would keep this nonsense on the phone any longer than necessary. The calendar is a prime example IMHO- other the gimmicky S-Pen notes on a picture of the calendar, the calendar doesn't separate Sync and display like CM- so I can't keep track of what my wife is up to without having to see all her appointments. The screen palm/capture thing is also tied to media hub and the rest of the (as far as I can tell ) completely useless bloatware (samsung suggest? tied to yahoo? Please.). I can't figure out how to change the toggles on the notification bar (please, please tell me there's a way to put whatever you want like sound in there as a toggle).. Wifi tether or the lack of it is another issue. Then there's the amaturish and completely annoying startup and shutdown sounds. Really, you have to disturb a meeting to shut down your phone? There's no over/under clocking except via the somewhat vague "battery optimization". Rooting and Nova has taken care of my major launcher problems. I guess I might miss S-beam unless CM ports it but honestly, I've found it extremely tedious to use IRL and not encountered anyone else who uses it has outside of the two hipsters near the apple line and the oh-so-sweet wife of the traveler.
I can't wait for CM10 so we can get Paranoid Android! It would be nice to have the status bar on the bottom within reach. I'm going to try to patiently wait it out and let the N2 price drop. My local Sprint stores are sold out anyways.

I much prefer Cm 10 as well but if it doesn't use the Spen then I'm gonna stick with touchwiz. Never thought I'd say that but I use the pen more than the keyboard by far now that I'm getting used to it. I just want a dark theme doesn't even have to be AOSP just not cartoony & imbelIished

Been playing the the N2 and the S-pen. It would be nice to have the on-screen navigation buttons. I keep trying to press the back and home buttons with the pen!

you can still use the Spen with CM10 i use it on the galaxy note 10.1 you just can't use the samsung apps like Snote, however there are many alternates that you can use that perform the same functions in the play store. so cm10 is definitely something worthwhile on these note devices if you are an aosp fan.
I want a nice stable version of MIUI and I'll be a happy camper. Keyword is STABLE...so I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Nice. Now if only it was possible to shrink the buttons down a bit, add the search button, and only have them pop up when the s-pen is out it'd be perfect

If you're rooted, try and app called "Button Savior (Root)"
You can toggle the buttons with a click of an on screen button.
Been using this for the past few days and I love it.
Thanks epicnoob66 and CECHOI for the tips.
Still can't wait for CM10 and PA. PA has the best boot animations.

I also miss being able to kill apps with the back button.
+1 for CM10. I really hate all the gimmicky crap on touchwiz, I still have my GSIII which is running CM10 and it is so much nicer. It also made the GSIII faster so I don't see how the same wouldn't apply to the Note2 (although it is plenty fast as is), it has to, all the stock roms that include touchwiz are upwards of 700MB and CM10 is about 150MB, that's a lot of bloat

Stock option just press the S-Pen button and draw a "less than" symbol "<" on the screen and that's your back function.
Also for menu just hold the S-Pen button and draw a "^" symbol and that's your menu command.
Good stuff! Is there a a gesture for Home? I find it tricky to press the Home button with the pen.
I saw the samsung galaxy note2 n7100 has begun getting nighltlies. Does that mean we will get it soon?
So I have tmobile and I recently upgraded from a tmogs3 to an att note 2 and I have a few questions.
First can I flash roms from the tmobile version of this phone to my att note 2? I would really like wifi calling and such. And I have accidently flashed either the sprint or verizon version of ditto note 3 to my phone and except for breaking the radio it worked fine.. thank god I didnt brick. So after 3 hours of trying to find my backups and lots of banging my head on the desk I finialy got my phone back to how I had it with the att version of ditto note 3...
Anyway I digress
What files are safe to remove. I dont use most of the samsung crap except air command, I love s-voice but its a battery drainer. I use bump and thats really it.
Can anyone pm me a good recomendation for a completly clean touchwiz rom that doesnt contain anything but the base system.
Is there a flashable zip with the note 3 camera, gallery, air command, multi window, pen window, air gesture, smart stay, smart scroll, basicly the note 3 features minus the samsung app I find I have no use for.
Basicly I want a plain vanella 4.3 touchwiz rom with the note 3 fetures and none of the samsung stuff I dont use. I have removed alot of them using titanium backup but when I remove to many I start getting force closes.
How can I get rid of my magazine I find it annoying when im on my home screen that if I accidently slide up it opens my magazine. I done even use the friggen thing. I think its the most useless app on my device.
Is there a way that I can free up ram? Out of 2 gigs I find I usually only have 300 to 400 mb free. Once the phone gets down to 200 or so mb it starts getting laggy and I have to clean the ram in order to be able to do anything. I find myself cleaning the ram and closing apps in task manager more than acctualy doing anything else really.
Ok I guess im done droning on about what I want.
I do however love this phone and dont see myself changing phones again for quite a while. Any help that you guys could give me would be much appreciated.
thanks in advance.

Are you talking about these ? -The note 3 Edition only Known Issues
When I read them the OP had mitigated them, has explained a fix.
The DN3 is a ported ROM from the 7100/7105 forum.
SkyNote is built by one of the most talented dev's this forum has.
The issues I was referring to were your memory/ram issues.
You asked about a TW rom with N3 features. Those are your choices.
There are 3202 posts in DN3, 1985 in Skynote, they came out one month apart. Why would there be more posts do you suppose?

ok so I gave sky note air a shot and it broke my data completely nothing I could find fixed it, I did finaly get it back but it was a long process and I ended up having to reinstall de3 rom, even just restoring my backup didn't work, I had to wipe my entire phone, reinstall the de3 zip and then restore my back up, so skynote air isn't an option for me, I rely on my data too much, thanks for the help and even though it didn't work for me I very much appreciate the resonce and help have a good one.
Just curious if anyone is running Cyanogenmod (n5100) on their Note 8. couple quick questions....
1. Is it stable?
2. Anything not work? Any bugs?
3. People talk about the sPen stuff or whatever on the Note 8. Is it worth keeping the stock ROM for some of that Samsung stuff?

I donno what peeps here are calling bloat ware... Samsung apps are some the the finest available on Android. Google apps are just about needed for secondary apps and extras.
Out of the many apps I removed or disabled, I personally could not find much improvement with storage or RAM consumption.
The only issue that I found from an app is Googles Music Player, and 4.2.2 and earlier OS not able to fully categorize RAM used with over 45GB of MP3 files. I think it has to do with how many folders and mp3 files are stored. Any way Music Player will consume battery power not what peeps call bloat ware.
Too many developers and so called know it alls will point out bloat ware as an issue, when the issue is how things are configured and used.
I have tried custom ROMs and found nothing better than a properly setup Stock ROM. Sad to say for the Note 8.0.
If need be safe root and install TI backup pro and Xposed framework with plugins, to have the power of most custom ROMs and to remove all you want. If you need to send in for repair, just do a factory reset and be done with it. Simple and effective without need to jump though hoops in flashing and dealing with Triangle away and looking for proper OEM firmware. Plus you can always update through Kies or Settings as if nothing was touched. )
Sorry for the long rant, just tired of peeps pointing at bloatware being an issue with devices. The issue is proper implementation and usage. Take it from me, having an engineering degree in applied science in technology. I find it easier to pick at the problems people create than to deal with the limitations of pushing out new tech without proper testing. That is why I never applied for Google, MS, or many other big named companies. Samsung tablets seem to have less issues with what they load than many other competitors. Google may complain about customizations, but as long as they work that is all I care about. So many who do complain about bloatware are probably Google biased.

I put CM 11 on my note 8.0 n5110 (not the n5100) as I love CM11 on my note 2. However, although the CM 11 on my note 2 seems like a polished final product with no issues whatsoever (although it's only a nightly), definitely CM11 on my note 8.0 seemed like it was still a work in progress.
1. Yes, it is stable for everyday things.
2. Often (about once every other day) an app would disappear from the homepage. I would then have to put them back. I could not remove unwanted preinstalled apps from my homepage (like the camera app for example). Usually you would grab the app and bring it to the top of the screen and it would be removed. For some reason there was no way to remove them. Usually there is a simple way to "close all" the opened apps by going to the pull-down menu. This was missing my nightly.
3. The pen works perfectly on CM11. Of course, there is no "air gestures" like on stock. For me, I just use the spen as a pen: for drawing, sketching, and taking notes (like using my favorite app LectureNotes). For such things, the pen works fine. In my opinion, it's well worth getting CM11 --- besides for the things mentioned in 2 (and other small things) the note 8.0 runs amazingly smooth, like the dream tablet I always wanted.
BTW, later I moved to Omnirom on my note 8.0 and I'm still using it and I am liking Omnirom even better than CM11 (which in my personal opinion is much better than the stock rom).
Hi
Picked up my new Tab S 84 just under a week ago and am v pleased with it. Can't believe how things have changed / improved in Android tablets since the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (loved that too!)
Anyway, I use the tablet mostly for work so emails, documents, remote working etc. I noticed that the native email widget is missing despite me having several email accounts setup on the device. is this normal? seems odd given that every Android device I've owned thus far has had this widget and I'd really like to use it.
Also, the tab s has IR built in but where's the app? I also use a galaxy S5 which has both of the above and works fine.
I'm wondering what else is missing!?! had also thought about a reset to see if that helps.
Another thing. I've got the LTE version and the battery life tho ok doesnt give that same 'oooo this is lasting forever' feeling like my old WiFi only Tab 10.1 and ipad 3 despite having very similar standby times. I have not ran any scientific tests tbh here.. but have decided to turn off 'mobile data' as I don't use it a great deal atm. hopefully this will improve things
Any thoughts on the above would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks re WatchOn. Just discovered that this week.
I have also discovered the location of the missing widgets.
If you scroll to the left to access the Magazine UI. You can either add an extra page here and add special widgets including s planner and email widgets us other stuff or delete each magazine section by holding ur finger on them and replacing them with a widget or an app.
It's actually quite neat. Got mine looking good atm. Tho I like this I don't know why Samsung removed the option for us to create a traditional widgets for email and S planner etc..seems a bit of a daft move.
As for the battery life.. Ive simply switched off data whilst am not using it. Had a good 4 hour spell on it last night doing some work with only WiFi on. It dropped about 25% which I didn't think was too bad overall.
I'm still monitoring this though.

as far as battery life...long story short u want to use apps with as much black as possible which saves major juice versus white pixels. i'm using dolphin browser with a night add-on (renders pages black) for my internet needs since most of the drain comes from the white backgrounds while wondering around on the web ...there have been test done elsewhere online that shows this thing has the worse battery life when it comes to surfing (like 6/7) hours while it has hands down the BEST battery life when it comes to watching movies (around 14/15 hours unbelievably!)

Hello,
Where is the "magazine UI" i don't understand.
From a Galaxy Tab S, i've the same issue. "Email" widget is not more available "normally".
Thanks in advance for your help.
Hello I just ordered one of these off eBay for $80 in excellent condition but I feel like I should've asked if sketchbook runs smooth enough on here? I know it's old hardware, but still better than Snapdragon 410 in Galaxy A tab. I wanted a small tablet with s pen (Wacom). I don't need it for anything else I have an iPhone 6s and i7 desktop and Skylake i3 laptop
what version JB 4.1.2 or 4.2.2? Hopefully you didn't get 4.4.2.
As of this month I finally got the best ever overall operation in 4.4.2. But it is not anywhere as perfect as 4.1.2 or 4.2.2
If by chance you have KK, you can either root and use a custom kernel or do the S Note fix to correct the spen pixel issue
It is easy to do, but any complain about it being trial and error. Once you get the knack, you'll wonder why you had such a problem in the first place.
I have the app in question along with Layer Paint HD, and Paper Artist. once you align your spen in KK, you won't have any issues with drawing apps.
There are custom ROMs that correct the spen issue but some still need work as they are not 100% fully functional as stock is.
Since I require perfect miracast functions, with minimal bugs with a nice layout. I was forced into manually selecting components from S5, Tab 4 and Note 2 stock ROMs, along with some ported system apps distributed by Devs. Some very few apps are from dead ROMs, where the Dev let rot away.
Yes you can run S5 apps in stock form, just need to root and run Xposed with app settings. Some apps require 320 or so DPI, and others may require 190 or 220. It is a trial and error, but they are stock, and with a build.prop mod, you can update them on Play or Galaxy.
I run the latest versions of Tab 4 version and S5 version of Peel Smart Remotes. As S5 has a better layout.
Some apps like Kids mode need a small tweak with a saved older sub app to run, though the lock screen widget interactions and gator animations are missing.
I run my N5110 as a T330 (Tab 4 8.0) in my build prop, 90% of the time, with out any issues with my apps. The remainder of my usage is in S5 form, as my Chrome Dev browser with Samsung's chrome customization system app, operates a wee better browsing on the Internet. Seems that the updated versions are not so device dependant in the build.prop requirements.
Hello thanks! Sounds good I don't have the device yet. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions. Hopefully it's not 4.4.2 like you said.
Okay sadly it has 4.4.2 Can yuu point me in the direction of the spen fix?
By the way I have SAMSUNG-SGH-I467 sounds like it's hard to root this device?
autocorrect sucks on your thread title...
