The problem i recently noticed and haven't had since now is when i put the usb cable in my phone and activate usb mass storage then when i try to copy anything to the phone midway through the copying i get a message saying that the device is disconnected on my pc, but on my phone everything seems to be ok. Please help me, I also have a message on my computer saying that i should scan and fix the device. I have done it a dozen of times but nothing has changed

Have tried a different SD card?!? or might a different USB cable solve the issue..
Sent from my Wildfire S using Tapatalk 2
I'm not using the original SD Card, but a 8Gb one I bought for 15 euros. It's class 10, and as far as the USB Cable goes, i've done what you've suggested, but had no success
Check for loose usb port... generally this happens when a usb port is loose.
Try inserting it in different port as well and also i'd like you to watch for dust in both ports (Phone as well as USB)

When I connect my phone to my pc it will charge, but nothing else. No connecting sound or notification on either the phone or pc. What's strange is it was working just days ago. Anyone have an idea?

The last rom I flashed was the rc version of cm6 and I had no problems for a few days afterward. And yes debugging is enabled
Wow, did you try a different USB port on the PC? Also did you tried connecting the ph to a different pc? My guess is may be the Rom but try a different USB port and pc first to confirm that...
If you are using the piece of crap USB cable that came with the phone, try a different cable. Seriously.
Hi,
Been trying to find an answer to this for a while but so far no joy. I've found a few similar threads but none with likely answers/fixes.
Anyway here goes;
I decided to finally root my DHD now that it's out of warranty. I downloaded AAHK, read the effen manual and plugged my phone in ready to go... and nothing happened.
My phone charges via USB but I get no icons in the notification bar, nothing to ask what I'd like to do (mount as disk drive, charge only etc) and nothing pops up on my PC to say its detected a phone attached.
I've checked settings and it's set to mount as disk drive by default and also set to ask me what I want to do.
I've tried manually altering from mount as disk drive to charge only and back again. I've tried it with USB Debugging on and off. I've rebooted the phone. I've powered down, performed a battery pull, powered up again and tried it - still nothing.
I've tested the SD card in a card reader and it seems fine. I've tried a different USB cable, different USB ports and even a different PC! Still the same story - charges okay but nothing else.
Meanwhile my g/f's phone (a Wildfire) mounts fine with the same cable on the same PC - so clearly the problem lies with my phone specifically and not the cable, SD card or PC.
My phone is a sim-free DHD just over a year old. It's all stock atm - Android 2.3.5, Sense 3.0, Software Number 3.12.405.1
Do I (as I fear) have a bricked USB port? Does anyone else have this problem?
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
The port itself could have something stuck on one of the contacts, or is dirty and keeping plug from fully seating. Other than that your port could be bad. To bad you are out of warranty.

Yeah I was afraid of that. I was hoping - vainly - that it may have been a software fault.
Still, at least I can still charge it... for now!
Thanks for the reply.

First of all, I have searched everywhere in the forums (in all sections) outside the forms in all means to find anybody with the exact symptoms that is happening to my galaxy nexus but to no avail
There are many cases where others has faced issues but not as unique as this one.
PC = Windows 7 (64bit) + Windows 7 (32bit) + Windows Vista + MAC OSX + Windows XP(32bit) .. etc
I have been seeing all the issues (common or unique) with charging and USB in GNex but mine is truly a unique one.
I got this phone 2 days ago on stock 4.0.2 locked/unrooted from a Blondie.
The issue is when connecting the USB via PC in Android mode (while inside the OS)! Thephone doesn’t event register in windows (i.e. not connection sound or anything shows up in the system trey or device manager)
The phone doesn’t charge as well when it’s ON (in Android Mode) and connected to the PC.
In simple and bare words .. there is no spark!? it’s as there is no physical action happened in the PC nor the Phone?
Here are facts that might ring a bell to figure out what’s going wrong here:
The phone charges normally via AC (stock charger or other chargers) and there is no issue at all in both cases wither the phone is switched ON or OFF.
Fastboot is properly connected and recognized in windows and the phone gets recognized when connected in ODIN as well and I am able to flash (already did a couple of stock rom flashing using Galaxy Nexus ToolKit v5.6
It also worth mentioning that when the phone is OFF and connected to PC via USB it shows the bolt icon and start charging for 5 seconds and reboots again to the bolt icon and this gets repeated endlessly.
I have also tried 4 different Micro-USB cables just to be fair.
Because of this, I am unable to root the phone and this is driving me crazy!
Please help me out here.
Did you download the samsung drivers?

It could be an issue with the micro-USB port on the phone. Some people have started having issues after a few months, myself included. If that's the case you have to get it serviced.
Songs like an issue with your drivers.

Is the microUSB port really so delicate on the GNex?
I had an Xperia X10i before this and had to replace it after nine months.
Should I be extra careful?

Drivers won't fix your problem.
Will the cord you are using charge the Galaxy Nexus if you put it into a wall charger?

Yes, it perfectly charges from AC using thew same cord.
For a temporary solution, you can use an app called software data cable, which allows you to access the file system using ftp. Or any app that does this for the matter.

The only thing I can think of is you either have a defective phone, a defective USB port, or you are trying to use a low power port.
I just plugged mine into a desktop that doesn't have a Nexus driver and it worked fine.

I would say it's a defective USB port if fastboot/ODIN are not functioning. but both modes are working flawlessly and I always keep flashing stock roms!? such a weird issue!!!?
Low power port? Nope! I have USB 3.0 and 2.0!
I just bought a galaxy s2 running stock gb on ebay and whenever I plug it in any pc it only charges. There is no usb notification nor does computer play a sound when the phone is connected. The phone makes a sound and just charges no matter what I do, I have tried usb debugging on/off and nothing. When I go into wifi/connection settings and select usb mode it says to connect a cable when the usb cable is already connected. I have tried many usb cables including the original samsung one.
Did I just buy a defective phone or am I missing something?

Are you using a data cable and not just a regular charging cable? You still see the option to connect mount the SD card evn without the drivers.

Having the same issue, can it be that I am using a backed up ROM? I know that there are times when having a backed up ROM changes your system to R/O instead of R/W

MY PC basically does three quick beeps, like the ones it would make when connecting to the phone.... the only difference is when properly connected it would make one beep. I have 6 USB ports and have used all of them. In Root Explorer it states "Cannot detect SD card" that happened after i clicked on SD card to see what files were there.
I did a fresh flash of a ROM and now I am not having issues connecting to PC.
similar problem
I have the same problem of my gs2 not connecting to the computer. The only difference is that it isn't new, and I've been connecting to the computer using the exact same cord for a while.
I'm not really sure what the problem could be, it was working fine as recently as yesterday
Had the same issue I had to send it in for repairs USB port on the phone was effed up

Install moboro on ur PC, make sure developer options is enabled, and debugging is ticked, moboro will install needed drivers for phone to be seen, check to see if the phone is rooted y downloading root checker from play store, if it is rooted it may be an issue with the rom, try downloading Odin and putting the phone in download mode, Odin should see the device and say "added", if so go to sammobile.com find ur devices newest firmware and DL the file, use odin to flash the firmware on the phone, should solve all issue, u can also use Odin without being rooted too so, if u need more info, links or whatever, just let me know

WARNING
I had the same problem about a month ago. I had sent it to Samsung and they replaced the USB part of my phone. So if nothing works, DON'T PREFORM A FACTORY RESET IF YOU'RE ON STOCK! THAT CAN MAKE YOU STUCK ON A BOOT LOOP! but if you're lucky then everything will work fine. I only say this because it happened to me.
I have tried transferring files via My Files app, File Expert, Astro, as well as connecting to PC via USB... it always gives an error and says unable to write! I have also tried to transfer from internal to external SD, still just says "copying failed". I've also tried via Kies.
The external SD is not locked as I used it in a previous phone, and the Note 2 can see the files on it (and play the music).
What's going on?!?
Uninstall and reinstall drivers worked for me, I don't know what happened I went they the same deal yesterday.

My card worked perfectly for a while, then became write protected for no apparent reason and I started getting the same error message you are getting. I had to copy the contents to my PC then reformat SD card in the phone. After that it worked normally again and I was able to copy my data back to the phone .

For anyone with a similar problem described above, please try another USB cable. In some systems, the white USB cable that comes with this phone doesn't send data to computers properly - it supplies power but has problems with data.
Many people have reported this. I just confirmed it on my system. I connected my Note 2 to my system with 5 other usb cords and my system found the device every time. When I used Samsung's white usb cable the computer didn't see the Note 2.
Either Samsung did something with this usb cable or they're sending a lot of defective usb cables out.

I am using a different cable and it detects the card, but as the others have said, it is "write protected" randomly.
I have even transferred all data to internal, formatted my external SD (via the Note 2 option), moved everything back over, it wrote files fine for a few days, and now it is auto-write-protected again. This is kind of ridiculous and is really a hassle especially seeing as most people use external cards for media.
Bump for a fix hopefully... We should not have to reformat every few days just to be able to use our cards.
Thanks for the clarification. I haven't experienced this issue (yet) and agree this is not related to the white Samsung USB cord..
I wonder if the phone has problems with certain cards. What type, brand and size memory card are you guys who are experiencing this problem using?
I'm able to transfer files to and from SD card but not while in recovery mode. Only some files show on SD card while in recovery mode, backups fail, etc.. any ideas?
