So even though LG announced ICS for the Optimus LTE back in December, there was no mention of ICS for the Nitro specifically and there was some speculation that this meant AT&T had no plans of updating it.
Today AT&T announced ICS is available for the HTC Vivid, which has nothing to do with this forum, but the same press release listed several other devices that will get ICS "in the coming months" and the Nitro is among them.

With AT&T, if you're going to assume anything, assume the worst. So if there's no official announcement, assume there will be no update.
Now, there's an official announcement and a general time frame for the ICS update.
Well I found this article, looks like we will be gettin ics, maybe cm9 before the official release

There's what I assume is a leaked engineering version of ICS for the LU-6200. The post about it in the LU-6200 development forum has screenshots of it.

perhaps it's installed after the leaked ROm is installed. it's soooo much nicer without it.

Unlocking LG Nitro P930 with ICS
I purchased a LG Nitro P930 (AT&T) that had been rooted and also has ICS
on it. I've tried to unlock the phone and have been unable to do so. I have
an unlocking code and I went to cellunlocker.net for help when I couldn't get
it to unlock. I followed all of the different ways to unlock it and it still won't work.
I've even tried 2 different sim cards in it and have the same results.
Has anyone been able to unlock this phone with ICS or have any suggestions
short of throwing it out (too expensive).
Any and all help will be appreciated.
Ivan
Yeah, assuming you have root (if you don't, root it) flash the official Gingerbread nandroid backups found in this thread using the dd commands. I don't understand how your device has ICS, though, unless somebody had access to what designgears just leaked to us or unless you're mistaking ICS for CyanogenMod or AOKP.
You might want to go ahead and make backups of your partitions before you flash the Gingerbread images, though.
You're Right
Thanks Malnilion.
Here's what the seller put in his description:
Auction is for a perfect condition LG Nitro HD Smartphone on AT&T Network with Android's latest OS installed, Ice Cream Sandwich via CyanogenMod 9 build. ICS is not available yet for this phone because LG/ATT have been dragging their feet on getting it ready. This phone is by far the nicest phone I have used in quite awhile. I've had the Galaxy Note, Galaxy Captivate, Nexus, Lumia 900, HTC Titan, and a bunch more. I test phones a lot. Screen is real HD at 720p and the best one of those I have seen. Colors are near perfect and detail is bright and crisp. Phone has been rooted and has ClockworkMod Installed so you can load up any ROM you want with a simple reboot. It was quite a task getting ICS on this phone but I was able to do it and it runs like butter. Really smooth and has full capabilities.
Hopefully this answers your question. The phone looks great with it and I'd like to keep ICS if I could but I need to get the phone unlocked and nothing I have tried so far works. Is my only answer to go back to the original OS or ?
Thanks

I'm about to come back to the E4GT from the Galaxy Nexus. If it helps anyone that is trying to pick between these two... the reason why I'm going back is because overall performance was better on the E4GT, and the battery life SUCKS on the Galaxy Nexus. Even with the screen brightness most of the way down, I'm lucky to get more than 8 hours with the same amount of use. Oh, and the camera on the E4GT is a lot better.
Anyway... I'm looking forward to the E4GT getting the ICS update because I am going to want to install Apex Launcher to get the vanilla ICS feel, but with the better performance of the E4GT... any ideas when the update is going to happen?
I saw this: http://www.droiddog.com/android-blo...-ii-epic-4g-touch-ics-just-around-the-corner/
Yes, I realize that I could root it and flash a ROM, but I can't even begin to describe how sick I am of ROM flashing. I have been a flashaholic since the Nexus One (the phones I've had are in my signature) and I'm just tired of it.
Anyway... any information is much appreciated.

Made me laugh out loud at work. Thanks
Quite a few threads asking the same question and honestly if you been around here and I am sure you have its all speculation. I guess just sit back and enjoy the leaks which actually are running pretty damn good from what I see. Official or leaks they are probably both going to have some issues... I hope they hurry up and put out the official ICS kernel source so we can get some custom kernels going...
Congrats on coming back to the GS2. I actually had intentions of buying the GNEX this week, but when I went to the store, I just liked the look and feel of this phone so much more.
As far as the update, there are seriously close to 10 Customer ICS ROM's that work really well. I'd just go that route. I've only tested Blue Kuban and CM9, but both work really well.
Anyone else a little upset by this "unfair" model?
If you buy a Nexus today it comes with Jelly Bean.
If you've bought the Nexus from the Play Store, even a week ago, you won't get it for about two more weeks.
I understand it's only a two week wait, but if the update is available and shipping (and you gave it to attendees at Google IO) why not make it available for everyone especially on the official "Google Phone?"
Anyone else a bit confused by this?
not really, root, install jb, be happy - is what most others have chosen instead of their rants

I think the only ones being updated to JB, OTA anyways, is the ones handed out at the conference. The product page for the Nexus still says - "Ships with Android 4.0". And the current build they are receiving is only a "Preview" build, probably not stable enough for public consumption.
The people getting JB now are getting a test build that isn't fully completed and is only for people who went to the I/O conference. Go buy a ticket next year and enjoy the goodies, otherwise wait for 2 freaking weeks.
in a but confused, where does it state if I buy a phone today when it gets her in two days that it will have jb on it?

What's the point in having Jelly Bean so fast anyway? Other than the hype.
I flashed the Jelly Bean ROM.... used it for 30 minutes and then went back to CM9 for features.
Not to mention there are A LOT OF APPS with no support for Jelly Bean. Meaning app functionality will not work and force close.
There is absolutely no reasoning for be rushing for this. The OTA link was a leak anyways, it was never fully released by Google.

It's a stock ROM, people don't flash it for the features, first off.
Second, what apps were you having issues with, so far only TiBu and Apex are the only ones not working for me.
Third, the reason for rushing is so that everyone can go to their favorite hang out spot and brag to all their friends that they have JB.
It was a leak, but the leak allows us full access to something that has not been officially released which always makes us nerds scream like school girls.

So I ordered a galaxy nexus the first day of I/O after the price drop and the announcement they would ship with Jellybean. I got mine an hour ago and surprise it has 4.0.4. with no update available. WTF. So I try multiple times to call google support and it hangs up on me every time. Just thought I would let you guys know, it may not actually come with JB. I'm pissed off right now.
From what I've seen and read, they announced it to be the first phone to have jellybean. I didn't see any indication that it would ship with 4.1 Only the freebie phones were expected to have JB preinstalled
Just flash the new build or wait a few days for the OTA to come in.

They never said it would ship with JB. The Nexus 7 ships with JB and the participants to the conference received units that would update to a "preview" build of JB. Again, they never said the Galaxy Nexus was going to ship with JB at this time. They also clearly stated that they would be updated OTA in mid-July.
its not supposed to come with Jellybean officially until mid july. where did Google say it will be shipped with JB?

Its a developer version and not the final product. I would advise doing that unless you want to hold his hand on maintaining his device when it comes to flashing.
I rather keep another person's phone stock.

Thanks but we're both experienced with the end-to-end process and have done it many times. I was just saying that as a "surprise" for him I would have it done already since I know that's the first thing he would do anyway.
But yes... in general I would agree. I wouldn't do this for a regular user who doesn't care about unlock/root/etc.

I was going to get the S3 for my wife, but considering the lower price of GN (by $200) and minor differences in features and functions that would not mean much to my wife, I have decided to get this phone instead. The prospect of putting the new Jelly Bean OS really did tip the balance for my decision, though. I like that buttery smooth operation of Jelly Bean. I'll probably put the custom ROM on hers before giving it to her. I don't think providing customer service for her would be a problem for me~
My advice, patiance. Let's just hope they keep providing the URL's. So we can download and manually flash the rom.

I love that we are getting JB now just after a couple months the rest of the world started getting ICS.
In 2-3 weeks there will be released versions of JB. It seems like a pretty short wait for the official version. If you are running stock, I don't think it is worth putting the hacked version on your phone unless you know what you are doing.

IMO, It really doesn't matter! I have used JB and ICS on my phone, and other than Google Now, I don't see the need to update to JB.
I look at it like this... the standard consumer is not rooted. The OEM and carrier have to smooth out bugs, and make the transition from ICS -> JB a seemless integration. This makes for a better customer experience.
Thats the business man... why release a sub par product and have thousands of support tickets for small minor issues.
From your sig, you're running JB already.
Pretty depressing if you ask me. God if the new nexus phone wasn't being made by LG I'd probably be all over that thing at this point.

Telus' S3 will get JB before the end of November, so I'm thinking we should be very close by.
Full application of project butter in an official release of jb will be worth it. Only reason my nexus is still stock is that the only rom on the s3 that comes close to matching its fluidity, for me at least, is tasks aokp. It's night, and day. Slow rollouts of software are just one of those burdens of this era in development. Fortunately, the software is beginning to be more, and more worth it. Someday you'll lecture your grandkids on how we didn't have all this fancy "cognitive request firmware updates, and 5tb/second data speeds" lol

First, 4.2 will not be key lime pie.
Second, its not Samsungs fault, its the carriers.
And being the carriers fault - you have to wonder. Do they each only have like 2 people working on the Updates...or wtf. lol

Because when there is a bug in CM, they can go *shrug*, we'll add it to the known issues list, like the bluetooth audio not working right. When there is a bug in a carrier supplied ROM, think of all the people that are going to want to call AT&T and be like 'Hey this isn't working, FIX IT!'. That costs money to pay the customer service people and it costs money from a PR point of view.
The carriers strive to make things as bug free as possible (which, is laughable considering some of the updates some carriers have pushed out, or even the state of a phone at release *cough*G2x*cough*). If they don't do super extensive testing on everything BEFORE the release, they're going to have to do the same testing AFTER the release, but after it costs them money in customer service and PR image.
It sucks that another manufacturer/carrier is delaying the update. Do we buy a phone on the promise/hope we will see the next update? I don't. "Why am I not getting update XX" seems to be a common complaint. I came from the Atrix 2. Motorola promissed ICS and an unlockable bootloader. The phone is now borderline if not already end of life with At&t and is just getting the ICS update and still a locked bootloader. I bought my GSIII with the thought "cool I will get JB" but didn't care when. With all of the leaks available, if you want JB, you can get it. Seeing some of the bugs in the leaks, do you really want that to be your update? If you got the update and had these bugs, thered posts of "how could they release this buggy version?" Don't get me wrong, I would like to see manufactures and carriers stand by their word, but I realize there are more important things to worry about than why my update is delayed or not getting it. If you want a phone that guarantees you'll see an update, get a ,cough cough, Iphone. Not all features may work but hey, you'll get your update. My one and a half cents and a THANKS to the hard working devs that bring us these leaks and roms (FOR FREE) to satisfy our need to update. YOU GUYS ROCK!

this sucks but never a problem with custom roms and Samsung is the easiest to update.
I'm new to Android, so maybe that makes me naive. But, I'd like to bring up a few points:
1) How do you know JB for the AT&T GS3 is delayed until 2013? No one has given a release date. Heck, it might be 2014 or 2015. It's misleading to post a title like that.
2) "Coming months:" this ambiguity goes both ways. Sprint released their GS3 JB OTA update today.
