`What in TW does it say if u flash your counter? I have flashed roms 12 times and it shows a number 1 when I boot into recovery mode but i cant read what it says I have a number 1 for ? so what did I do
Does that mean every time I use odin I trip the counter? Because I went from CW to CWT to TW and im wondering how did I end up with a number 1
I need to know so I don't keep tripping it.... also if I use that program to wipe my flash counter is it a one time thing only? or can I run the app over and over and run my counter up then use program again is that possible?
BTW im on [ROM][PA:AOKP] ParanoidKANGdroid 1.40 (11/21) The Most Customizable ROM on Earth
so what is it gave me a one? ODIN ? CW? CWT? TW? The jelly bean rom paranoid?
btw my phone came with ICS so I thought I wouldn't trip the counter.... im bummed hell I did very sad want to find out how why
also visual voice mail keeps saying can't set up call my provider is this normal for ATT?
aokp probably tripped it just get triangle away to reset your counter i think you can get it for free on xda but i bought it in the play store as for vvm make sure your voicemail is set up on your phone first just put your phone # in the voicemail setup
Mine got messed up also call at&t and ask for it it is a different one than phone number

your phone number will work too
Voice mail number is dependent on your region. Its not the same for everyone.
As for the flash meter, triangle away will reset it. On the future though don't flash anything with Odin other than stock or stock rooted packages. Any thing else will most likely trip it. There's a rumor that the new jb update will cause it to trip anytime you flash in recovery. Just a rumor though.not heard of its actually confirmed.

Wait I flashed this rom like three times it only flashed once
OHHH your saying using odin?
Well I didn't flash a rom I flashed a boot loader (can that trip counter)
I had to to root my self well the info I folllowed never mention it trips your counter
so i can use triangle away with any rom? I never flawsed a rom in odin before except on my S2
Triangle away is not ROM dependent, but is device dependent

I am curious if I will receive the new S3 update, as I am rooted on stock rom. I have not received any update notifications yet, but I know other people that have. Pressing "software update" in settings just waits saying "Checking for software updates". What do I need to do to get the update?

If you are rooted, my guess is that you most likely tripped the modified counter. By default if you are not using a work around, Samsung has certain methods in place that detect when you modifiy your phone or boot loader. Once tripped, you will most likely not get any ota updates. To check, first ensure that you dont have a yellow exclamation mark while your phone is booting, second, go to settings about phone and there is a string that she either read normal or modified. If you are rooted though, why dont you just flash one of the new roms with android 4.1.2? That is the update.

Forget waiting for the OTA update, why not download the full Samsung T999 S3 stock-rooted
deoxidized firmware and flash your phone with it. Since your phone is already rooted, it's easy.
Good Luck!

Yes, it appears I am modified. I used triangle away in the past. I havn't done any phone mods in a long time, and I basically have root for apps requiring SU. I did not want to have to break out the USB cable and download a 700MB file if I could just run the update tool (call me lazy).

Right, I went ahead and updated using cwm and the stock rom and am now on 4.1.2. Flashing was just scary to me when I havnt done it in a very long time
If you wish to do it the easy way I'd say TWRP it. But another way is Odin back to complete stock UVDLJC so that your status is normal and not modified. I'm pretty sure TriangleAway doesn't need to be used to reset your binary for an OTA. Just the ROM itself can't be detected as modified for the OTA to work.

If you don't mind me asking, how exactly did you go about that? I was on CM, tried changing the rom, messed up, ended going to my backup of touchwiz 4.1.1 and don't mind it but I'd like to go to 4.1.2. I'm a noob at this so if you can help me out that would be awesome. Thank you.

hey guys I'm having some issue changing my phone back to stock, i did some digging around and found some stuff on different models though. I'm on a t-mobile galaxy s3 sgh-t999, i rooted my phone to get WiFi tethering. found out later that the new jellybean firmware blocks it so its pretty much useless now. i unrooted my phone using mobile odin, triangle away to rest count and cwm recovery to do so. wiped cache partition and did a factory reset. the unroot was successful but my phone says modified now instead of normal or original like its supposed to. the stock rom that i flashed takes me back to 4.0.4 ics when it goes to download updates it stops at 4.1.1 after that i get a message saying my phone is modified and updates are not available. all i want is my phone back to normal like i just bought it, I'm thinking about exchanging it and I'm pretty sure they wont take it if the status reads modified. i read this thread about a root66_TMO_T889UVALL4 rom with odin that keeps everything stock and keeps the count at zero thought the whole wipe and boot process. is that something i could use on my phone? any info on how i can fix this is extremely appreciated guys thanks.
Do not flash anything.

one more question, like i said i just unrooted my phone do i have to root it again in order to flash the rom you liked me to?
You don't need to be rooted to flash a ROM.
I was reading on un rooting and flashing a stock rom for the s3 sense the 4.3 update. originally I was looking for why I am not able to flash roms. well i still am unsure really and thought, you know what. why not flash a older stock rom reroot and go from there. then i found this web site telling how to do that and as i was reading it i read that there was a different counter besides the flash counter and that there is no way to reset it. So whats up with this new KNOX seceurity. will this cause problems when trying to send it back to the company for any reason? It seems to be causing problems with being able to flash roms.
im using philz touch 6.0.x.x something like that. and also my rom manager which i paid for isnt downloading squat. just says it is but doesn't show progress just shows like the prep. and i keep getting the status 7 error when trying to flash. I read that maybe cause it wasnt the official cwm recovery but i have sprint and read somewhere that philz touch is the only one that will work with sprints 4.3 update and being rooted.
cause after i flashed stock to get this update and tried to root it wouldnt recgonize it till i used philz touch.
dam this sh!ts confusing haha.
and that was more or less alot of random things that just a question about one thing. sorry guys.

It actually will cause a problem. The KNOX warranty viod count will go to one. To my Knowledge there is no way to reset that yet.Samsung KNOX addresses platform security with a comprehensive three-pronged strategy to secure the system: Customizable Secure Boot, ARM TrustZone -based Integrity Measurement Architecture (TIMA), and a kernel with built-in Security Enhancements for Android (SE for Android) access controls. Basically trying to stop people from FLashing there own Firmware into the phone,
WHATEVER YOU WANT DO NOT TRY TO FLASH A DOWNGRADE> IT WILL HARD BRICK>
Yea you'll have to wait because of the ****ty KNOX samsung did. You got it if you did the ota update to 4.3 samsung released. I was so close to doing the ota until I read about it first. Wait until someone comes out with a fix

So, I was given a T-Mobile SGH-T999 that someone had found a while back, but was unable to get activated. It didn't have a SIM in it, and I think it may even have been used off T-Mobile at some point (based on evidence below). Checking the IMEI it seems that it's only blocked on T-Mobile (AT&T says they do not have a block against this IMEI, and it's not showing up in any lost/stolen databases), so I'm guessing non-payment or carrier unlock. I would like to SIM unlock it, but I'm not entirely sure what has been done to this phone. I've never owned or played with a Galaxy S3, so my only knowledge has been from digging around this forum for a couple hours. Here's what I can tell you from looking through this phone. I'm hoping to get some advice on my next course of action:
Model number SGH-T999
Android Version 4.1.2
Baseband version T999UVDMD5
Kernel version 3.0.31-1128078 [email protected] #2 SMP PREEMPT Mon Apr 15 11:59:10 KST
Build number JZO54K.T999UVDMD5
Device Status Modified
Odin Mode
Product name SGH-T999
Custom Binary Download: Yes (1 counts)
Current Binary: Custom
System Status: Custom
Qualcomm Secureboot: Enable
I first tried SIM unlock, only to eventually find out that I would need to downgrade from 4.1.2 to 4.1.1. The threads I've read on downgrading indicate that to get back down to official 4.1.1 I need to be stock to begin with. I don't think this phone is rooted because I am unable to "su" when using adb shell or browse directories like /data. However, Odin saying it has a custom binary, and the device status saying modified makes me believe this phone was rooted at some point. Again, I have no experience with the GS3, so I may be way off base (I don't even know if Odin is the stock recovery).
So, before I can downgrade to 4.1.1 do I need to use Triangle Away, reset the flash counter, etc? Or, can I just use Odin to flash 4.1.1. Finally, will I also need to flash a different modem even after that?
I'd appreciate any advice and help you can give me. Thanks.
Thanks for doing some research before posting. Its refreshing to see you picked up basics even if you have never used this model before.
You didn't mention if there's a custom recovery such as TWRP or CWM. If it was there and you were brave or comfortable enough, I'd have suggested a 4.1.1 modem to flash (UVDLJC).
So to your question on unlock, essentially, your best bet is to flash a Root66 of UVDLJC version. Read the first post of Root66 completely word for word before you download and flash. Less chances of hard brick that way. A Root66 is a Galaxy S* family term for rooted stock firmware. It just has root injected in it. Everything else is just stock. So it does not trip the flash counter.
Now your counter is already tripped. So you will have to use Triangle away as you already know. So after Root66 and Triangle Away, you will be all stock and good to go. Follow the process for unlock as you have already found out and then go with ATT.
Now if you wish, after the unlock, you can flash UVDMD5 version of Root66 and you will get JB 4.2.1. Do not flash UVUEMJC version of Root66. Locked bootloader and efuse hardbrick lie in that direction.

Looks like I should have done my research a bit better. I misunderstood, thinking that Odin was some sort of recovery. Just looked up how to get into recovery, and it looks like stock to me (it just reads Android system recovery 3e). So, it is possible to just simply flash LJC modem on 4.1.2 so I can unlock, or am I misunderstanding?

Just to make sure I understand correctly, it IS Triangle away first, then Route66 second? If I'm interpreting correctly, I can do this even if not rooted? All the devices I've ever flashed ROMs to before (even when going back to stock ROM) needed a custom recovery and/or root. But, since this device doesn't appear to be rooted, I just wanted to make sure I don't need to root before flashing Route66.

Thank you so much for the information. Once I get everything in order, and the SIM unlocked, I'll probably spend many hours researching how I want to progress (so you've already helped cut down that time). I honestly haven't come across modem flashing in previous devices, so I will definitely need to read more to fully understand the implications.
Out of curiosity, do you have any theories on how the flash counter was tripped? Everything appears to be stock, but the flash counter and device status seem to indicate otherwise. Just trying to figure out the history of this device. Again, thanks so much for the help.
Really everything Perseus said is on point, except you don't need to use triangle away because really that's just to reset the counter and its unnecessary for you.. You can either flash a custom recovery and flash the LJA or LJC modem to do the unlock, or Odin the LJA or LJC firmware and proceed with the unlock
Edit: and to answer how the counter was tripped, it looks like they may have rooted it at some point and then unrooted it and returned it to stock.. The counter does not change

Yes that's stock recovery. You can't flash modems with it. If you have custom recovery then the flash counter will keep on tripping at every boot. Best if use ODIN to flash LJA or LJC firmware, do the unlock and then flash MD5 firmware so you are back to JB 4.2.1. Triangle Away's purpose is to reset that flash counter you saw. I do believe it needs Root. I don't remember since I did it so long ago. I just thought you will want to it after all this flashing is done so its all squeaky clean.

Theoretically with android architecture, it could be done on any device. The trick lies in remounting that partition as read-write correctly. Have fun reading this.

Looks like Serio beat me to it. He's spot on where the origins of the tripped counter is concerned.

Hi
I have the Galaxy Note 2 LTE Telstra version GT-N7105GT
It is currently flashed with the Nordic 4.4.2 ROM making the phone think its only GT-N7105G which is fine. Thing is I want to send in for warranty and the Official Telstra 4.4 ROM is still delayed to be able to just flash that on the phone so its official ROM
I have read some Note 3's can flash back from 4.4 to 4.3 is it possible with my phone or is the bootloader now locked?
Cheers
Yes you can flash back from 4.4 to 4.3 using PC Odin. Download first the official Rom at your country from Samfirmware website. Then do factory reset in settings after flashing. I will save first anything important from my internal sd card.
If there is a need to clear the flag counter, Triangle Away is the solution.
But make sure the knox counter is not yet triggered to claim warranty.

Thanks for that I thought it was not possible because the bootloader is locked? Has anyone done it and worked? What are the risks if it doesn't work? Just flash back 4.4?
Triangle away requires Root doesnt it? If I root it will trip Knox? I would hope the counter wouldnt be reset flashing back official firmware
Cheers
I have the optus note 2 I flashed samsungs nordic rom and had some software issues and major battery faults so I went back to4.1.1 using samsungs original roms, bit of a muck around to get there it takes a little while but it is possible.
Now my zero lemon battery can actually last the distance... with 4.1.2 I was getting 12 hours screen time and 3 to 4 days standby as apposed to 2. To 3 days standby with 7 or 8 hours screen time with 4.3 and 4.4.2
