[Q] Dafuq's going on with my battery? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey Guys, i got my Nexus here in my hand. I love that phone but mine has a really annoying "bug": If i charge it, it charges normally, everythings fine. But if i unplug it, it says for about 5 minutes that its charging. Okay then, but later, the charging symbol starts to "flash". So it lights up the locked screen and sucks my battery down. I had that issue with all ROMs i ever had on my phone. (Srock 4.0.4, Stock 4.1.2, Parandroid, MIUI, CM10.1).
So im out of ideas. Can someone help pls?
Greets!
BTW, excuse me for my bad english please ;P

Was this issue happening since the time you bought your phone or only recently? Which kernel are you running?

If this is an issue with all Roms I'd pop in a buddies battery if available. If you don't see the problem go away it's got to be a hardware problem = insurance claim if you've got insurance...

Does not charge

Hey guys, I have a little problem here.
Well, my Droid Incredible 2 does not want to charge, i have it plugged in to my laptop using the OEM charger and OEM battery. I'm using the EasyTether to give my laptop internet and every now and then I check my phone, but every time I check it, the battery decreases. I dont know what to do, The only way I can charge my phone is by turning it off and charging it, help?
I'm not sure if its a hardware or software problem, but im willing to try wiping everything or flashing a new kernel or ROM.
Right now I'm using the latest CM7 nightly and stock CM kernel.
If you need any more information, just ask.
Help please!
It could be a hardware problem. My wife's DInc2 stopped charging too. She is not rooted and tried a factory reset but that did not help. After working with Verizon tech support they sent her a replacement.
Happened with my first Dinc2, they told me it was a hardware problem and sent me a new one.

Galaxy Nexus thinks it's charging when not?

Hello, I have a CDMA GNex running build 36. At random points through the day I find my screen turning on because my phone thinks it is changing. The odd thing is its is not even plugged in. I just was wondering if you guys think it is a hardware issue or if it's just my ROM or Kernel. Any Tips on how to fix this issue are appreciated.
Thanks

*UPDATE* Found that a battery pull solved the problem on my phone (or at least for now), never reverted back to stock. I had it charge for 20 or so minutes then unplugged the charger and it seemed to recognize it was no longer charging, thanks for the help again guys. If at first the battery pull doesn't work, wait a day and try it again (i pulled it 2 different days)
Any takers? If it is a hardware issue i want to fix it ASAP before my warranty is up!
I have it too, wipe doesn't help. I will try flash a stock rom..

i've found myself at 99% when it's plugged in and it won't charge anymore. not sure if it's a hardware thing or a rom thing. it's intermittent though... haven't found a fix yet...
Please share what you find out after you revert back!

When the screen comes on, does it say "Charging"? I am using Text Plus for my messaging, and I had to uncheck a setting to turn on the screen when I received a notification. Are you sure it isn't an app that is turning the screen on?

Absolutely positive, when going into the battery stats, on the lock screen, and the icon on the top all show that the phone is charging, I seemed to notice it after I flashed the paranoid android ROM. Since then I have reverted back to AOKP and the issue is still there. I may restore stock, and if it persists I'll delete superuser APK. and run it over to Verizon while I still have the warranty. If anyone can tell me if is a hardware or software problem it would help me figure out the problem.

I've seen a similar issue where the device will not charge while connected to power. A reboot will resolve the issue but, for obvious reasons, this is less than optimal.
Is there any way to identify what application (since this only changed recently) might be causing the issue?
Thanks!

Oh come on!! Don't people use the search function anymore!?!? See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676711 or the other 20-30 threads regarding this issue.
Basically, you need to replace your USB charging board, and Samsung will claim water damage and make you pay for the whole repair...
Let's say for just a second that I didn't run any searches (which I did, not only here but Google as well) and have misinterpreted issue (where the device stops charging after a few moments, but only when the OS is running) and it is actually a hardware issue, how does being condescending help or encourage others to post here?
Sorry, I'm not targeting you. I'm just not okay with people creating new threads instead of contributing in existing threads regarding the exact same issues.

Problem solved (sorta) i called customer care and they said that it was a "common problem" and usually was a result of using a charger other than the one that came with the phone... Long story short they are sending me a new one, new post here if you are still in the helping mood (;

This issue just started happening on my Galaxy Nexus last week. I just called Verizon and explained what was going. I told the rep I hard reset the phone and it still occurs. He said it was a known issue and overnight ed a replacement. If you're having this issue Verizon seems very aware of it.
I had the same issue .... for me it went away with the newer CM builds [VZW].

Mine just started doing this yesterday. Tried a couple of battery pulls but it still seems to think it's constantly charging. When it starts flopping back and forth between charging and discharging the phone becomes unusable. I'm just wondering if the battery pull was a permanent fix for you or did you have to send it in eventually?

Need help!!! Is my galaxy nexus dead???

hi everyone
last night i was just using my gnexus as usual, then all of a sudden the device just freezes and then proceed to emit a loud noise, like a "buuuzzz" nonstop..i coundt turn it off through the pwer button so i decided to remove the battery..reinsert it, and then can't turn it on again..
tried to conect to pc, the device is not recognized..
cant power on with the charger plugged in..tried another charger, no success
meanwhile i'm trying to put the battery on an external charger to see if its an issue with the battery itself..
i'm starting to think that my nexus is dead..
please if someone cound help me, it would be much appreciated. thx in advance!!!
sorry for my broken english, i'm from brazil
So it doesn't vibrate or anything? You can't get into bootloader? No Odin?
If no, then try OMAP flashing. I never did it, so I don't quite know about it, but apparently this saved some good amount of people with the hard bricking.
Do you have the ability to give it a try with another battery?

Not in the moment, but the battery just runs fine with an external charger. But i'll try to find another one available..
The thing that really bothers me is the no response when plugged to the pc. Am i mistaken, or it should beep when connected through usb(without the battery)?
have the device for TWO months..wow...

I had Similar issue with another phone. It was hardware related. Were you overclocked? Running custom Rom?
Are you under warranty?

Yeah I recently had something similar happen. Taking the battery out and plugging it into the computer did the trick and it booted back up. Something to try anyway.

Never messed with the clockspeed, however yes i'm using a custom Rom. Actually i've been using this for 3 days, no problems whatsoever. until now..do u think that's the cause? The phone is literally dead by now. Thats REALLY depressing. and the loud noise when it froze before it completely stopped working.. unbelievable

thanks for the link, although nothing happens when i plug the phone to the computer.
If it's dead go ahead and exchange of in warranty. The buzzing sound is a chip frying.

thx for the reply everyone!
So the strangest thing happened. i left the battery in the external charger for a full day..when a took it off and put it in the phone, pressed the pwr button with no sucess...nothing again...tried a couple of times..and yet nothing
five minutes later ,on a last ditch effort, pushed the pwer button once more and..FINALLY ! the thing wakes up..booted normaly, like nothing happened.
today when the battery runs out again(on about 2 %) i turned it off and connected the usb cable to charge in my work's pc..now again the same thing happens, phone is dead again. tried with 2 different cables..battery is already in the external charger, gonna try again tomorrow..
starting to think the problem is in the usb connector or the battery itself..but at least my biggest fear(fried phone) seems less likely

Problem with charging or hardware. Help?

Hi,
I don't actually know if this is ROM related or kernel related or something just wrong with my phone. My phone keeps 'randomly charging' even when the charger isn't plugged in. The status bar icon changes to the lightning one and it says it's charging on the lock screen.
Sometimes the charger doesn't seem to charge the phone till I reboot (It works perfectly with my Nexus 7 and Tab 2).
I'm running the latest CM10 20120930 with Franco kernel (only because I had the problem with the stock kernel and wanted to try another). And yes, I did wipe everything before updating.
If anyone can help, please do. It's really annoying since the screen turns on every time the phone decides to 'wirelessly charge' and runs down my battery.
Thanks for any advice, tips, etc.

There are a lot of topics about this. It's a hardware problem.
I have the same problem, so I bought this USB port replacement http://www.ebay.com/itm/310412314270 and I'm waiting it to arrive so I can change mine... If it works, I'll post it in the General section of this forum.
If your phone is still under warranty, use it, and don't let samsung tell you that is not a manufacturing problem, because it is, there are thousands of people whit the same problem.
Sorry for my bad english.
I've been using the phone since January so I doubt they're gonna listen. Anyways if you're gonna replace the whole port could you make a how-to so anybody who has the same problem could fix it themselves?

as soon as I replace the port, if it works, I'll post a video and some explanation on how to do it.
Had this problem , sent it back to Samsung and they replaced it and sent it back with a broken screen. Poor customer service but they fixed. As people have stated its the USB port , replace it or send it back under warranty

[Q] Won't turn on, never reaches recovery/download. Suggestions?

About ten minutes into work this morning, my S3 suddenly shuts off completely. I had about 50% battery remaining;
I attempt to turn the device back on, if flashes the SAMSUNG logo, then the Galaxy S3 etc. Afterwards a Battery symbol with an exclamation point; This symbol is orange/grey .
I begin to panic at this point. I pull the battery and put it back in, trying to go into recovery mode. It only flashes the samsung logo, an this time only for 2 seconds and never gets any further.
I ask a co worker to borrow his battery (S3 too of course) and the phone boots up fine. I am somewhat relieved at this point considering it may be have been much worse.
I go to a local moblicity and buy another s3 battery(60$) at which point she says final sale no refunds etc, I don't think anything of it considering I tested it with a co workers battery.
I pop the the new battery in and it gets further than the sammy logos, to my boot animation (Liquidsmooth animation)
It gets to my homescreen, and shuts off immediately afterwards.
Now I have a new battery with a dead phone. Any suggetions?
BTW it's a model SGH-I747M (Bell) that WAS running LiquidSmooth 2.7
Thank you
Try leaving it off and plugged in for a few hours to charge or charge battery in your coworkers phone. The new battery may have had a low charge

My apologies, I forgot the mention with the new battery and the device plugged in there is no red light indicator that it is being charged.
I may just leave it in to see if that does the trick I suppose??
Thank you for your quick reply.
It could be a bad charging port had that happen on my sprint s2 twice, or check for dirt/lint or corrosion in there. Try different chargers, as a test you can also take the coworkers fully charged battery and see what happens if you get the same thing try odining a stock rom something could be corrupt
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I've tried three different chargers, a co workers battery as well. Nothing gets passed the Samsung logo, and even then it only blinks for a mere second.
The battery I borrowed was fully charged as well.
I can't get into download mode, so I'm really thinking this is something wrong with the hardware at this point.
I've had problems immediately after flashing a rom, but not after using one for weeks already. Seems so odd.
Anyway I appreciate your input, but I think I'll bring it by the Samsung repair shop half hour away from my place and see what they say, or want to charge me to fix it.
Thanks
So you flashed a new rom when this started? Did it boot up after flashing?
I'm asking because it almost seems like a rom for another device could have been flashed.

Try buying a jig to force download mode. If that can force dl mode, Odin to stock.

Actually no, I had flashed LiquidSmooth about two weeks prior. Which is why this somewhat leads to me it being hardware related.
;
I'll try to look around for a jib as that is my last option.
Thanks for the responses.
Well just to put this thread to rest,
A co worker of mine's wife works at a samsung repair shop
I didn't managed to get a usb jig, so I brought it down to the samsung repair shop about 40 minutes away. I explained the situation, after filling out a form left my phone with them told I would receive a call back.
So I received the call, and It turns out the "mainboard" as they put it, is no longer functioning. Usually this replacement costs what they told me around 150$ ; Which is exactly what Bell was going to charge me for a refurb.
Anyway I'll be getting back my phone next week.
Thanks for all the suggestions regarding this issue.
They give any insight as to why it what went out?
