My phone has been randomly shutting off, and by random, I do mean just that. It will tell me I have a full charge and then shut off, and then every attempt to restart it, will cause it to immediately shut off again. Sometimes I wait half an hour, and then turn it on, and it will last me the rest of the day on standby. Sometimes it lasts me several hours playing music, other times (most notably when using wifi or gprs, it will only last minutes).
I have seen on occasion the battery indicator will give me a warning saying its almost dead when I reboot it, before it shuts itself off again. This is going from 80+ % full to suppposedly nearly drained in an instant.
So yeah ok, maybe I need a new battery? Thats what I figured, until I bought a car charger. The charger was from the T-mobile store, it was marked for the Dash and Wing.
When I plug it in, i get the charging icon, the little orange LED, but it gets incredibly hot. Almost too hot to hold in about 10 minutes. It doesn't seem to charge it at all, even though it gives me the icon.
I should mention, the phone NEVER dies in use when plugged into the wall or USB, nor does it heat up, but it will act up randomly like previously described when using the car charger.
What do you guys think? Should i get a new battery or do you think something else is wrong? I do enjoy the things I can do with this phone, but its starting to become more trouble than it is worth I think (was always bothered by the memory leak to begin with...).
Hey all,
I'm having a bit of a problem with my Nexus. It was working fine up until today, when all of a sudden (when it was low battery) the screen kept coming on every time I turned it off with the low battery warning. Each time it did it seemed like the percentage was going down by one. I restarted the phone and it then told me 0% remaining briefly before shutting off.
Now the battery icon is flashing as if it is being charged even when it is not plugged in. When I plug it in from the mains it also seems to sometimes say Charging (USB) instead of (AC). When I plug it in to charge while the phone is off it does not show a charging icon (waited for a minute or so).
It sounds very similar to the bug reported here. Could this possibly be a ROM/Kernel issue (I'm running Manhattan ROM) or do I have a hardware fault?
Cheers

You are having this problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427539
This is a hardware problem. You should RMA your device, or change the USB charging board yourself.
I had this exact problem myself, and tried many ROM/kernel combinations but it didn't help. As I didn't want to RMA my phone to clove.co.uk, I bought this board (http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150713366355) which fixed the problem.
Hey Guys,
Picked up my HTC One X last week and have had no problems charging the device.
Last night I plug it in as usual using the supplied charger and cable, set the alarm and go to sleep.
When I wake up I notice that it hasn't charged and (this may be unconnected) the alarm did not sound.
I unplug in and plug in back in and it begins to charge.
Interestingly, I checked out the power information in settings and the phone thinks it was charging all night, except, it wasn't.
Anyone else experienced anything like this?
Thanks
Coincidentally my HTC One X was acting really bizarre this morning/tonight too.
I connected it to the charger yesterday and this morning (about 5:30) it woke me up with the "Quietly Brilliant" splashscreen and sound. It seemed to have reset itself and asked me to send a log to HTC...
I guess today will forever be known as 'buggy tuesday'
exactly the same thing happened to me last night. plugged in at 12% woke up at 12% 30 minutes late for work as alarm didnt sound.
seems my phone is having trouble charging today as well as its only went up 3% in an hour and a half and its on airplane mode as im in work!
Wow, so its not an isolated case.
Wonder if its date specific, or has something to do with the Alarm.
Would be interesting to see if anyone else was effected.
My phone seems to be charging OK although I have restarted it since it refused to charge last night.
I do believe under heavy load that the phone will not charge, but as I understand it, a service, or background process cannot consume more than a small amount of the CPU. I did wonder if somehow the alarm has spun out of control and had the system under such a load that it refused to charge.
I just hope its anything but dodgy hardware.
i just restarted mine and its now charging normally so reckon it must be an app or service that was causing it.
the alarm thing could just be coincedence but seems strange...
i usually switch my phone off at night if i am leaving it to charge so i have not got a chance to try this out..
I had a message on my phone last night I have not seen b4. Maybe a similar thing happened to you. The message said "Please close background apps as your phone is using more current than the charger can supply" lol.
as another quick observation, my phone got to 69% charged then got stuck for about 35min.
i restarted the phone again and it started charging again.
i dont see anything strange in the task manager list, and i dont think i have installed anything untoward that i didnt already have on my HTC Desire other than a couple of paid for games...
is there anything i can look at when this happens again to see whats draining the battery? theres nothing strange in the battery usage list either.
currently i have
Screen 63%
Golfshot GPS 28% (i used this yesterday for about 4 hours)
Android OS 4%
Cell standby 2%
Phone idle 2%

Hmm, that's kinda odd. Wonder if the issue I experienced was somehow related.
Just to follow up I repeated my usual routine again and plugged the phone in again before going to bed. Wake up this morning to find exactly the same thing - it hadn't charged.
This really makes no sense and is getting pretty annoying.

hi which version of the OS are you using as it may well be to do with the version of android and software update may well fix this also if you have wifi turned on that can be a large drain on battery make sure if left on it is set to turn of when screen gose of maybe that charger cannot handle it been left on but most likley its a bug in the OS
i found part of my problem was using a lower rated charger. the one i had in my bedroom was 700ma and it needs a 1A.
charged fine last night when i switched chargers.
oh, and my alarm went off fine this morning as well.
still doesnt explain why it wasnt charging, or got stuck while charging with the official charger.
Hey Guys,
One last update!
I have just factory reset my phone after noticing that it would not charge from AC at all and the battery level went from 45% to 100%.
So, Im guessing that somehow, by charging the phone over night, the calibration went out and what it was reporting was not actually what was left.
I shall keep and eye on it!
hi guys. i think that htc rushed with this device to be ahead of all and did not finish the job well, this is why we experience so much problems with this device.no harm intended
A few hours ago my phone started emitting beeps as if some notification was turned on (I have all such off). I have not paid much attention, as the beeps eventually stopped (!!), except for when noticing, a while later, that the phone - albeit plugged in and with the battery indicator showing "charging" - the percentage was decreasing. I watched it for a while, and the batter was discharging while plugged in. Did the followings:
- replaced the battery with a new/charged one (my spare) - same behavior
- replaced the cable with the original samsung - still the same problem
- tried wall outlet charge, laptop charge (via USB), etc - same problem
The questions for those having experienced such:
- would the beeps be indicative of a problem, or just coincidental???
- the phone is definitely the culprit here - the question is if there is something that could be done for some sort of cleanup of the port, or improving the connection (seem to recall some such from a site - maybe this, maybe another forum - could not find the article by searching), or further tests I could carry out, before I take the phone into the repair shop (which I am not sure if there is such in my area)
TIA,
Stefan
can your phone charge with the phone off? Turn off the phone and then plug it in, do you see a big battery icon charging? Also is your phone rooted?

Upon turning the phone off and first plugging it in, it depicts a grey battery with a non-spinning wheel in the center. After approx. 10sec the screens starts showing a semi-filled with green battery, with a scrolling bar of dots underneath it (active this time, unlike the wheel described before).
I am sure that everyone knows what I am talking about, having seen it many times before, even if my description is not that good. The issue is that I have never paid attention to this part - mostly because I almost never had the phone plugged into power and not immediately turned on.
Observation after doing the above: after having left the phone off for almost an hour, the battery charge decreased (84% -> 80%) while the phone was plugged in.
NOTE: When the charge was 100%, by using a battery I charged with an external samsung charger, I also re-calibrated the battery using the app (phone is rooted, but always using the stock ROM). Just FYI - if that matters.
Thanks for any [ongoing] assistance.
ok if your phone was off and plugged in, and was still losing charge then I'm not sure what to do, sorry, hopefully someone else who has experienced and solved this can help you out.
my issue was similar to you where i couldn't charge my phone while it was on, i could only do it while it was off...it was a software issue, so i flashed the stock ROM, started from scratch and everything was fine from then on.
if you havent already, make a back up of all your important data (msgs, apps, etc.) download a stock rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2276645) and flash it, maybe that might solve the issue
The beeps may have been the phone detecting the charger on then off multiple times. Check the charge port on the phone for any breaks or debris.
Otherwise I dont know what to tell you aside from try another cable and charger. Sorry.

Damn ! I had this error too but it would charge but so SLOW! It was on a ROM/KERNEL that i've flashed , I cant remember wich one. Try charge your battery in Recovery ( this was my solution )
I've had my TAB PRO 8.4 since about half a year now, and it's been a really good experience. But then suddenly one day I was just using it for my daily tasks and it suddenly restarted and then it did it again and again, it got stuck in a bootloop. Then it drained the battery and stopped, when I came back home I tried charging it normally, but noticed it wasn't charging past a certain percentage, and since I was also playing with it while it was plugged in then I just thought it was just because of that.
After that, I left it plugged in all night as I've always done but when I woke up, it was STILL STUCK at that percentage (around 25%). It was like that for a couple days with the battery, I restarted the device (longpressing the power/lock key), when I it came back ON then suddenly the battery percentage jumped to around 51% and I thought it was solved but it wasn't, then it didn't want to go past that percentage, and the worst came when I unplugged the device and the battery drained incredibly quickly, like in a matter of seconds it was down more than 10% of the battery.
It's been like this since about a week now, the charging process gets stuck at some random percentage, and when I use it while unplugged then the battery just drains in such a crazy and quick manner. And also, the bootloops come back every once in a while and I have to go into safe mode or odin mode and then restart so that it stops, but the battery/charging issue never stops, it just behaves randomly crazy. I really don't know if it's software or hardware, whether I should try rooting or something like that, or whether I should try to send it to Samsung under the 1year warranty (it's just that I bought it in USA, and I dont live there and it would be just a great pain in the ass in time and money) or just try to live with it like this.
What do yo guys think I should about this?

Did you ever resolve this? I'm having similar charging issues.
Kinda

Well, I kinda resolved it, at least the charging one. I had to drain all the battery down to 0% until it shut itself down, and then I turn it back on and for some crazy reason there was about 50% left but it quickly got drained and went off on 0%, then I turned it back on once more and it was 0% but still it lasted a couple minutes on and again it went off, did that process so many times until it couldn't go back on anymore. At that point, I put it on the charger and it got well charged to 100% at last, and the battery now is working kinda normal, even though the random reboot loops come back every once in a while, specially when on low battery, but that's about it.
If you ever find any definite solution for your charging issue, please contact me.
