Is anyone else having problems with Google Car Home (or any other car home apps) not overriding the default launcher?
On my Nexus S, running CM10, it worked great.
On the N4, running CM10.1, if I launch Car Home and then hit the home button, it takes me to my default launcher (Nova, same as my Nexus S).
Just wondering if this is what other people are experiencing, or if there is a car home app available that will properly override the launcher on the N4.
I'm running the latest Google Car Home available, 2.2.1.4
Thanks!
I believe that it is a known problem. I just use the multitask button instead of the home button. Just adds one more press...

For me when I try the multitask button, and go into another app, Car Home is no longer selectable.
The notification icon is still there, but that will just close the app.
So there is really no way to leave Car Home and get back to it.

I just relaunch it, unfortunately. Officially, Car Home has not been supported since GB (IIRC). It's a shame, too, since I really like using it. I have also found that it's better to let Car Home time out when going back to the main launcher (that is, if you're using BT to start/close Car Home) since the launcher FCs when closing Car Home manually (at least in stock JB).
I just use a car widget.. Works pretty well..

Thanks that actually works a lot better than I expected.

Hi I currently own a galaxy nexus and I'm really missing my gs2. I am looking to get a gs3 and when I went to the mobile store I noticed that when pressing the home button from any open app there was a slight lag to get to home screen. Is this just normal for this phone or is the display model borked? I've own the gs2 and SBS and home screen button never was that slow at returning to the home screen. Any input would be nice before I purchase this phone.

It's in S-Voice settings.
Oh SK its how the sgs2 was? Nice. Then I am getting it for sure. Been keeping up with the threads here and not much negative stuff . The gnex is nice but the volume is too low and WiFi and connectivity issues are killing the pure android experience. Updates aren't worth dealing with that. Even with custom Roms there are issues.

I previously had a GNEX. Loved the swipe up from home shortcut for Google Now. On my Note 2 the only way I see to launch Google Now is by holding the menu button. This is ok, but it brings up the keyboard and recent search entries causing clutter (and yiu have to press the back button to make the keyboard go away). And the prior search results stay on the screen.
Is there a faster/better way to quickly access Google Now?

I use Nova launcher and can swipe up for GOOGLE

Use Swipepad: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1vYmkuY29uZHVjdGlvbi5zd2lwZXBhZC5hbmRyb2lkIl0.
(which is a must have app for any android device)
Then put google now in one of the slots. All you have to do then is swipe up from your chosen hotspot to it and you're set. :good:
You can do it by a long press on the menu touch button, or dragging the google shortcut from the lockscreen.

In my OP, I mention the menu way. It's annoying because it brings up the keyboard and recent searches. You have to hit back to get rid of the KB and the recent searches stay there. It's not ideal.
I downloaded swypepad, but in order to use more zones, you have to pay. Lame.
Oh well.
Touch the word 'Google' on the left-hand side of the perma-widget.

Just did that. Still launches the keyboard and recent searches. Not clean and is frankly irritating.

So your's doesn't do this when either holding the menu button or touching "google" on the search bar (widget)?
What?
If you use Nova, you can bind Search Text to "long press menu". That brings me the Google+ screen...

You're right, it does pull up the keyboard, but if u start scrolling through the cards it all disappears.

Long press on my home button brings up my recent apps and three icons at the bottom.
Pie chart, Google and dustbin.
Press Google for Google now. No keyboard or recent searches appear.
However, if i touch the word Google on the search widget then Google now comes straight up but with the keyboard

On my desktop, using lightning launcher. No clue about TW, can one do that?
Does anybody know if its possible to program the home so a double tap brings up messaging and a long press brings up Google now? If so how could I do that?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
If you are running stock TW then the short answer would be no. If you are using a custom launcher like Apex or Nova there are settings in the launcher behavior section where you can tweak to perform actions.
yeah, it's impossible on touchwiz,
I don't know about the customizability of the button on launchers, since i don't use them

If you hold down the menu button it'll bring up Google now. Unless you're in an app then it'll pop up the search engine. You're on your own on the messaging one tho lol. Double taping home takes you to S. Voice.

Hi everyone I've tried all alternative lockscreen apps on the market but they all share the same annoying bug : if I unlock sliding on a shortcut e. g. whatsapp. once I press back to quit the app and (logically) going to my home screen, it goes back to the app that locks my phone and locks it again. this is not really functional. all I was looking for was a way to have different wallpapers for both home screen and lockscreen. tired of having the same one for both. suggestions?

It's not a bug, it's programmed that way.
App called widgetlocker can do what you want.

I have been using switchr on my mega for ages as it's such a fluid way to switch between apps by sliding in from the right or left. It makes even more sense on this device rather than trying to goto the bottom buttons each time.
You can get switchr for free from play store there is a pro version but you can try it out.

Will try
Thanks for the heads up on this application. I am looking to purchase the Note Pro and this might be just what I am looking for to cycle between Power Point, VNC, and the Whiteboard.
No worries how this is not baked in I don't know it's such simple and useful you can choose by arc like in screen shot tab swipe in a row or like windows 8 by sliding apps in from left or right many customisable options

This is awesome! You're right, with the sheer size of this device it makes so much sense to use this rather than the physical button.
Thanks for pointing this out.
Your welcome

In addition to Switchr, I'm also using (and highly recommend) Button Savior (non-root).
Button Savior adds a small tab that pops out with back, home and other function buttons. (Paid version is highly customizeable). I was finding it annoying to also have to reach so far for the back button, but this is a nice solution. Now with Switchr and Button Savior in tandem theres no reliance on any hard buttons.
Funny I was thinking about the back button would be handy I'll check this out I did email the dev of switchr to be able to pin back button to the arc like you can with the home button. This may do thanks

Is swipe down to close working for anyone? I'm using Flow setting and although I get the visual red feedback at the bottom the application I'm attempting to close does not close.
As much as I'd like to use Arc it's just not enough icons for my taste.
I may go back to Swapps even though development for it is dead.
The note has this built in. at least the 10.1 2014 You can move it wherever and it has home back Zoom notification Shade etc. pretty cool plus no extra apps installed

Nice. Thanks for pointing this out. The Note PRO 12.2 has this as well. I just wish it could be customized. For me, the trigger is way too big and it's slow. Sticking with Switchr + Button Savior combo as they work perfectly.

Yeah, I gave up on Switchr a long time ago.
I now use GMT Gesture Control which is much better for me. I've got a bunch of gestures set up to launch apps or do things that I want to do.
