I previously had a GNEX. Loved the swipe up from home shortcut for Google Now. On my Note 2 the only way I see to launch Google Now is by holding the menu button. This is ok, but it brings up the keyboard and recent search entries causing clutter (and yiu have to press the back button to make the keyboard go away). And the prior search results stay on the screen.
Is there a faster/better way to quickly access Google Now?

I use Nova launcher and can swipe up for GOOGLE
Gesendet von meinem GT-N7100 mit Tapatalk 2
Use Swipepad: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1vYmkuY29uZHVjdGlvbi5zd2lwZXBhZC5hbmRyb2lkIl0.
(which is a must have app for any android device)
Then put google now in one of the slots. All you have to do then is swipe up from your chosen hotspot to it and you're set. :good:
You can do it by a long press on the menu touch button, or dragging the google shortcut from the lockscreen.

In my OP, I mention the menu way. It's annoying because it brings up the keyboard and recent searches. You have to hit back to get rid of the KB and the recent searches stay there. It's not ideal.
I downloaded swypepad, but in order to use more zones, you have to pay. Lame.
Oh well.

So your's doesn't do this when either holding the menu button or touching "google" on the search bar (widget)?
What?
If you use Nova, you can bind Search Text to "long press menu". That brings me the Google+ screen...

Long press on my home button brings up my recent apps and three icons at the bottom.
Pie chart, Google and dustbin.
Press Google for Google now. No keyboard or recent searches appear.
However, if i touch the word Google on the search widget then Google now comes straight up but with the keyboard

Is there a way to hit a home button while in the browser. Like if I'm on eBay and I want to go back to my home page.
Why dont you just open a second tab?

And to get there easily, just open a new tab. There is no button or menu item for it.

is there a way to make Google now voice search the default app for double clicking the home button instead of s voice? I tried clearing s voice default but it didn't have any. I tried disabling it but then Google dialer stepped up and I couldn't find it in the apps menu...
I don't like s voice because it doesn't understand my accent and it can't do some things...

Use a different launcher such as Nova. You can change the home button and menu button. I have my Menu button set as Google now voice search when i long hold the button. The home button if i long hold i have it set just to do regular Google now search.

I don't even bother with this. If I want GNow, I just long press the menu button and tap "G". Two taps instead of one. Whoopty doo.

You still need to turn off the option in S Voice so it's not listening for the double tap.

Completely replace the voice!
I read all your comments you guys. But what I think what he means is that he wants to completely replace the actual voice in the Svoice stock app that came with the phone to the voice that Google now has. The way I have it is to do nothing when double pressing the home button. Since the 4.1.1 update dropped for all S3's, it came with Google now installed with the Google search bar widget. Well, I was wondering the same thing on how to remove the voice from S voice, and replace it with Google now's voice. Cuz I really don't like the custom voice integrated with with the s voice app. I like Google now's voice way better. And it sounds more human-like than than the "so called" Siri and S voice put together. If anybody knows how to do this, post your instructions! Cheers!

I've solved it since. I have one of two ways to do this.
1. disable svoice's double tap home to open from I'd settings, then instal home 2 shortcut from the app store. this did it for me, however I like the second one better
2. I also needed an easier way to use the buttons with the s pen like home and back so I enabled on screen keys and modified the key layout to disable menu and back hardware keys and made the home key a search key. now I have home, back, menu and recent apps buttons on screen and the home button is a regular search so when I long press it I get ASKED! What voice program I want it to handle...
hope this helps

You can change a number of behaviors with Apex launcher to launch Google Now-home key action, pinch in, swipe up, swipe down, and desktop double tap. Other launchers allow you to make similar changes. I would think with all those options you could find a more convenient behavior for launching Google Now. You can also have the Google Now search bar on all the screens all the time or on any screen all the time with almost all launchers. Remapping the home button to open Google Now with a double press instead of S Voice shouldn't be too difficult of a mod since you can turn off the action in S Voice settings. With all the other options I would think you could find a solution without a mod. You can also have the Google Now cards show up in notifications.

Does anybody know if its possible to program the home so a double tap brings up messaging and a long press brings up Google now? If so how could I do that?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
If you are running stock TW then the short answer would be no. If you are using a custom launcher like Apex or Nova there are settings in the launcher behavior section where you can tweak to perform actions.
yeah, it's impossible on touchwiz,
I don't know about the customizability of the button on launchers, since i don't use them

If you hold down the menu button it'll bring up Google now. Unless you're in an app then it'll pop up the search engine. You're on your own on the messaging one tho lol. Double taping home takes you to S. Voice.

I have the same issue. Re-updated and menu flashes and disappears.
Add me to this list also. It's a bug in the new search update. It really sucks. Thankfully I don't need to use the menu/setting that much.

Quick update. Still happening.
Workaround (based on previous posts and trials)
Open Google Now.
Type a space (or any placeholder text in the search bar.
Close the keyboard and retry the menu key. The menu should now pop up and float there.
The search bar seems to have to have something in it for menu to not instantly close again. I've put as little as just that space and it works.
Wonder how Google missed that?

I would hypothesize that this is a Samsung Twiz ROM issue, rather than a Google oops...Trying it on my PACMan 20.1 install I fail to get the bug.
Anyone in this thread so far not using a Sammy TWiz ROM?
Uninstall and re-install Google Search. Clear Google Talk data in App management. Reboot.
It'll work after that.
