[Q] How do I edit tray icons? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a new N7105 - and i'm coming from a Galaxy Nexus. With the Nexus you can edit the icons in the bottom tray by long pressing then just dragging them around. However, on the Note 2 i can't do this? If i press menu then press edit, it only lets me edit the screens.
Is there any way to change these icons? I find it hard to believe they've locked these down.
The icons i'm referring to are: Phone, Contacts, Messaging, Internet, Apps
Also, just thought i'd add - i've searched everywhere for how to do this but none of the suggestions work.
I've tried pressing apps and setting the view to customisable grid then going edit from the apps drawer - this doesn't work either.

Also, is there a way to do this without installing a different launcher?

Hi I have the 7105. If I hold an icon in the tray draw I can move it to the home screen or drag it all the way to the trash can. I can then drag any icon from the home screen to the app tray.

I noticed in Australia the Optus rom does not let you move the shortcuts at all. Also if you want to move icons around on the home screen you first need to press menu edit.. so stupid. Installed an unbranded rom and now I don't have these limitations

Adw launcher question(where is the notification tab)

Using Adw launcher, when you push the menu button, where is the notification tab? There is an edit tab now. I downloaded the one from the market, but I could've swore the notification tab was there before. Is it maybe a newer version, or am I just missing something?

I believe it is gone. My ADW no longer has it.
Hmmm, I guess ill try to find an older version? I know you can swipe down on the top of the screen, but its easier to just push the tab. Thanks for confirming.

I would do a Google search to see if there are any old articles with a download link.

There are several other functions you could do like set the home button to go to home page and if on home page drop down notification screen or to just drop down notification screen. You can also use the swype up or down function to access the notificaion screen. I have my home button set to drop it down but nine out of ten times i just drag the notification down and because i gott get my finger up there anyway lol I know its a stretch.
i personally cannot find the option to add more home screens in ADW launcher version 1.1.3 . Don't know why it's gone. The option used to be there. Does anyone else know why i can't change it from 5 screens to whatever i want any more?
Hit menu, then the edit button, then click on one of the green plus signs. That's what I did, and I have 7 screens now.

System applications without menu icons

Hello, I've got my nexus running xenon-hd and I've used the Rom settings to restore the traditional button arrangement I had on my captivate as you can see in the screen shot. My question is, with a menu button and search button now, is there a way to get rid of the three doors that appear on gapps like here in the messaging?
On jelly bean on my galaxy s 1, they weren't there because the phone has physical buttons. Not really a big deal, just curious. Thanks

I don't think it uploaded the picture correctly, trying again.
Nope, no dice, will try from my computer later, but for reference I mean this http://img.tapatalk.com/5224c050-7b59-f27b.jpg
Of course this isn't my phone, I have "menu, home, back, search" as the soft keys. But the three dots beside the attach icon are what I'm asking about removing

Replacing the home button

Coming from SGS II where one touch brings you back to the home page, now with the new SGS III a physical home button replaces the touch home button which is driving me crazy, I am sure others feel the same, anybody out there that found an app that will replace the home button please share it with us.

After downloading a bunch of apps and trying them finally found one that works, it's called (Virtual Button Bar) available in trial or paid versions, if you have found an app that works just like the physical home button please share.

Replace it with what? All you have to do is edit /system/usr/keylayout/sec-keys.kl and map the home button to camera search or whatever else you may want

Thanks for the info, but can you explain how to map the home button to any other function step by step, basically I like the calculator app to have the same function as the home button, thanks in advance.

Ah that you can't do in android. (That I'm aware of) I used to do this on my windows mobile phone. You can only change it to like a different function button.

The only way is to flash a cm10 rom that has navbar.

Yes. You can add up to 5 and assign them to whatever you like. You can also assign app or actions to the long press option so total max is 10 different apps or actions
Check out Home2 Shortcut in play store. Not sure if itll do exactly what you want but may help.

[Q] Notifications not as good as before

I've just upgraded from the original Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 to a Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100
On my old Tab if there was a notification that was too long to fit on the screen I could long press on the notification and it would begin to scroll right to left allowing me to read the whole message. On my shiny new super phone that long press no longer works (instead it brings up a button for App Info which is no help at all!)
Is there a way to read the whole of a notification without having to go to launch the app associated with it?
Thanks!
In 4.1 JB you have to put two fingers on it and slide down to expand the notification. Although it doesn't work for all notifications.

Thanks for the reply.
That seems to work for Gmail but not for Pulse and if there is more than one email then the expanded version is basically no better than the unexpanded version. You still need to go from the notification screen to the Gmail inbox to see any of the message.
Seems a bit of a step backwards from the older version on Android.

Home button to folder view?

Does anyone else find this annoying? If you put apps in a folder on the home screen and open one of those apps, when you push the home button, it will bring you to that opened folder view and not the home screen, so you essentially have to push the home screen twice, but you can't do that too fast or else it will bring up the s-voice.
Is there a setting I'm missing to disable this?

Turn of s-voice. In its options
Use different launcher to change folder close behavior.
Tap anywere outside the folder while on home screen to close folder.

Thanks for the thoughts, but none if those are really what I'm looking for.
I know about touching outside of a folder, but that is still another step(which is really what this whole rant is about), i would like to not have to turn s-voice off and more so not have to double click to get home, I'm trying to find a solution to the stock UI of TW, thanks again though.

I have a folder in my homescreen thst I store google maps, navigation, and mapdroyd. I just opened mapdroyd from the folder, then hit the home key and it went back to my homepage with no open folders. I am running nova prime and my note is rooted with a stock rom. Working as intended on my end. Hope that helps.

Other option is a foder widget. Not sure of the name but there are a few on the play store. Instead of making a folder you use the widget but it can act like a folder holding icons for apps.
