[Q] why do checked options disappear on reboot? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Weird deal - so I checked screen stay awake under dev options to keep my screen on while charging at work.
However, every time I reboot it disappears. As do any other checked options.
Why? How can I get it to stay!!

Its just the way it is as of now, so you'll have to re-check them.

thanks for the information, at least I know it is not something wrong with my device.
What was Samsung thinking?!?!?

They probably did that in case people forgot it's checked. So that their screens won't stay on indefinitely......

Stay awake while charging
Any updates on this, it is very annoying. Every time I reboot I have to recheck the "stay awake while charging". With all the stuff that we can do after rooting I find it hard to believe that this can not be fixed.

Use Tasker. You can use it to keep your screen on indefinitely while on AC or USB and then set it back to normal when you unplug.

Have you checked partial wake usage from Spare Parts?

Ah it says beautiful Widgets which I suspected. But how do I fix that cause I want to use beautiful widgets
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Check the settings in Beautiful Widgets. I believe there's a setting that turns the phone on to check for weather updates. You should be able to turn that off.
I'm not using it right now so I'll redownload it from the market and check.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
Hmm, couldn't find that option. It's probably waking the phone when it refreshes the weather. What's your refresh interval? I'd set it to something longer or just refresh manually. If you're using geolocation then that could be a problem too.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
It was a hour thought I had it on 4 hours so put it on that and geolocation Is on I also just deleted the animation pack for when u turn the phone on. Even if the refresh was a hour it keeps it the phone up 100% every second. I always get a notification for geolocation how it can't locate maybe that's constantly trying to locate

Seems like geolocation is the culprit. If you're usually in one city, just input that city instead of using geolocation, it'll save battery too.
If all else fails, you can try the app "Permissions Denied". Disable the permission in BW that lets it keep the phone from sleeping. The first time I used the app, I lost my settings after rebooting to make them take effect. After setting it back up and rebooting again, everything has worked fine since.

Deffiantly was beautiful Widgets w.e I did to it it is now fixed. Turned of geolocation deleted animation pack so one of those were the culprits and either way animation pack was annoying

[Q] 100% full charge to 0% in 6 hours??

I charged my Nexus LTE(unrooted,4 days old) till it was 100% before I went to bed. As soon as I set my alarm I unplugged it to test to idle. Well I just woke up 6 hours later and it was completly dead. I have it on the charger now, I hope i can see the spycpu cause that was main purpose for leaving it off. I do not sleep surf either.
Is this a defective phone?
Wow that's nuts. I definitely never get that sort of battery drain. Are you rooted? Using a custom rom or just stock?

unrooted.
I have to leave for work now with out a phone, I will try to check up via computer (feeling like a dinosaur).
Ha ha I know I feel so bad when I don't have my phone. Maybe see if it happens again tonight. If it does I would get on to the carrier. Have a good day at work!

It has been documented the Verizon has battery issues but not sure if they were meant to be fixed in the 4.0.2 update

Are you sure it was dead or you just had a sleep of death? If it truly was dead you definitely have something draining your battery during idle. I highly recommend you turn off your LTE antenna if you haven't already unless your using data intensive apps and you need it, such as surfing or netflix or something. Also, change your sync times to less often, I do every 15min. Sign out of google talk, use wifi when you can, adjust screen brightness, disable bluetooth. White backgrounds will eat your battery faster as well. What else am i forgetting.... Root will help if you can manage to, its incredibly easy especially with the new rootkit out, because you can load francos newest build which has increased my battery 2x, with 25% drain in the last 8.5 hours even with a 1/2 hr of whale tail last night. Also make sure your not running something stupid in your background thats eating your battery like a task killer or battery spy or something, those just rape your battery
If you turn on Google+ instant upload and it has thousands of pictures to upload that will kill your battery in a few hours. If your phone is staying awake because of Android OS then try turning off your GPS.

As noted in a lot threads on a lot of forums, there are some phones that have a problem with the Android OS and the "Keep Awake" time. There seems to be an issue with some phones not truly going to sleep when the power button is used to turn off the screen as opposed to letting the screen turn off automatically when the screen times out. This results in a very high time in the Settings/Battery/Android OS/Keep Awake menu.
In stock form and with every rom that I have installed, my "Keep Awake" time was always about 50-60% of my total battery time. If the phone had been off charger for 8 hours, I'd have 4-6 hours of Andorid OS "Keep Awake" time. This was true even if the phone had been in my pocket unused and seems to be exacerbated by my habit of turning the screen off manually with the power button every single time. I used to never let the screen timeout.
There seems to be two "fixes" according to Franco (of kernel fame). One concerns the camera. Seems the camera is started and then turned off during startup. But in so doing, it leaves a sensor active and this prevents the phone from actually going to sleep. So he recommends starting and using the back button to go back to the home screen. The other is DRM Protected Content. He recommends this be disabled or frozen. A third, that I don't believe I recall seeing him recommend but that I have seen on his thread at XDA (down for blackout right now) is to disable Maps.
I have done all three of those and my Keep Awake time has gone from 40-50% of my total battery time down to a few percentage points. I mean if I don't use my phone it will now show less than a minute of Keep Awake time per hour.
Good luck
My VZW nexus can idle with moderate use on constant LTE and get 15 hours with out issue. Hell I have even gotten more so check google+ as suggested. If it went dead on idle with nothing running constantly to cause it than I would say your phone and/or battery is defective

Ive been getting good battery life, despite my awake time being around 6-8 hours at the end of a charge. I tried the camera close but that never helped, I've just disabled DRM though. Also, GPS locator has been associated with this, which is probably what you meant by "maps". I just turn off my location unless i need it for navigation in location settings
how do you disable drm? and what exactly is it?

It has to do with digitally protected files, music, etc. One time I went home screen/menu/settings/apps/all/drm/disable. The last time I did it from Titanium and pressed the freeze button for that app.
Good luck.
BTW, both actions can be reversed.

[Q] Automatic wake up when connecting power or USB

I'm running Nova and CWM9 and whenever I connect the phone to USB or a charger the phone wakes up automatically forcing me to push the power button evey time I connect it to turn off the screen.
Anyone know if it's possible to disable this "feature"?
Thanks!
I believe stock does that too. That would be an interesting tweak if it's not already around! In terms of disabling, I'm not sure there is an option to do so.

Confirm stock does it as does Apex; presumably it's set somewhere basic in ICS
Its in developer options. Untick 'stay awake' (if I understand the question!)

And this is a problem why? Its just indicating to you that its plugged in properly and charging... the screen will time out and turn off a few seconds later.
Thanks for checking!
It is interesting that Google would assume everytime you plug the phone in (and unplug the phone) you would want it to wake up. Considering the short battery life these phones have, lots of charging would be commonplace and therefore lots of connecting/disconnecting without the intent to actually use the phone.
I could see giving people the option to have the phone do that - but for me the unplug wakeup is especially annoying because I have to turn it off everytime I go to put it in my pocket.

Well considering by stock there's no charging LED indicator, turning the screen on momentarily to indicate a charging state is a smart idea.
Also, if you're plugging it in, why are you worried about the battery drained by keeping the screen on for 10 seconds? 10 seconds.

Well that's that I thought too, but sometimes it doesn't go back to sleep like it should and I'll notice my pocket getting quite warm pull it out and it's still on.
It could be a bug in the ROM I'm running (not going to sleep correctly all the time) but I don't remember my DINC doing that so I figured it was something that just needed to be disabled.

Hmm, I did have this option enabled - mainly because when I connect it to the charger I do like it to stay on -prime example using Slacker Radio in my car when plugged into the dock.
Maybe I'll try a different ROM since it seems the problem isn't so much that I need to disable to wakeup on connect/disconnect but instead I need the sleep function to be more reliable so I don't have a mini oven on my pocket.
Thanks!
A great option for your car dock needs would be to introduce something like the app Tasker. Then you could leave the screen off but have tasker set it to constant on and load slacker when the Bluetooth connection to your car happens.

Yup, me too.
Thats normal behavior, if u click stay away then plug it in then unplug then plug back in you will notice its also unchecked again [least it shuld be]
This is because you dont want ur screen to stay on like that always right, lol.
Now that being said, there is an option under display to keep the screen on as long as your looking at it. [Face must be detected by cammera]

The check box is for "stay awake while charging"
Yes that should he commen knowlede, thats the stay awake under developer options. thats why I was discussing the charging situation of checking the box, pluing your phone in, then unpluging n plutlging back in qnd the box will uncheck. This guy appaerntly wants his phone to stay awake regardless of that, hence the stay awake while looking at device option I mentioned. Which is in screen settings.
Note the two diffrent settings menus quted, hope this clears up any confusion.

I too find this very frustrating. I turn on Stay Awake and have to keep turning it on. And as this is my 3rd Android phone and have often used nightlies I know that it doesnt HAVE to turn off. On my Defy I had Stay Awake selected and no timeout set for the screen and was quite happy. I use my phone in my car as a GPS and expect the damn thing to stay on, and do not want to have to swipe the pattern every 10 minutes, which is the longest timeout on the stock ROM.
Gps should keep your screen on regardless of settings, use google navigation. Works that way for me at least. N thats without stay awake while charging or stay awake while looking ticked

I want my Note to ALWAYS stay awake on WHEN CHARGING which is what that specific feature is supposed to do. Plugging/unplugging does NOT disable the feature for me, only rebooting. It should stay enabled. The feature is ONLY meant to keep it awake when it is being charged.
Also, anyone knpw if there is a way to prevent the screen from DIMMING when "stay on while charging" is working (or any time the screen is on for that matter)?

Maybe it's to prevent the screen from burn-in (although it'll probably still happen eventually.) My galaxy nexus had burn-in after months of usage.
It's intent is to be a DEVELOPERS option (hence the developers menu item) and not a USER option so my guess is that is why it does not survive a reboot.

Stay Awake While Looking at Device is not sufficient for all situations. For instance, if you need Google Maps to keep up with the latest traffic conditions during your commute, you definitely do not want the screen to shut down if you haven't looked at the screen for a while.
Unplugging the USB cable or charger has nothing to do with the Stay Awake While Charging setting in the Developer Options section. I have unplugged and replugged my phone several times after ticking the Stay Awake While Charging box, and the setting never changes, not even after rebooting.
Even at that, my screen still shuts off after a certain amount of inactivity - but when I turn it back on, there's a message saying the phone is charging on the lock screen.
Google navigation stays awake on my phone even without stay awake while charging. If its ticked I have never had it turn off except sometimes when unpluging n plugging back in, this may be rom specific.

I was having the same problem as the OP until yesterday.
Download "StayAwake" for free from the Play store. Simple program with two options - stay awake at all times, and stay awake when charging.
This program in particular works better for me than "Stay Awake" in the Dev options for an important reason: it can keep the screen awake while UNLOCKED and plugged in, but if the phone is locked and I receive a notification that wakes it up, the screen will turn off after a few seconds like normal.
So: If I'm using in the car and want to keep my music player/maps/whatever visible, it does that. BUT if I'm sleeping and charging the phone and I get a text message that turns the screen on, the screen won't stay on all night long and heavily slow down my charge time like it would with the Dev option.
As an iPhone user this is the functionality I was used to and this software does it very easily.
StayAwake works great!

YAY! This worked exactly as you described. Now Google Maps or whatever else I need stays on and the phone unlocked while driving.
I think it's interesting that we need apps like this to recover functionality that I had on other phones. Another example is the USB storage mode, I had to download "Easy UMS" to be able to access the SD card properly.

I was having this problem too, actually still am. Those custom apps are one way I suppose, but I think this is actually a bug since it has intermittent results. Sometimes it stay's awake, sometimes it doesn't. I have never been able to put my finger on exactly what is causing it, probably because it's nothing I have access to.
I'll try the app, last time I did there was a bit of a caveat.
And for the record, if there is some kind of screen burn in saver with my phone, it is the first time after owning several versions of varying android phones, so it is a 'new' option that contradicts it's own description, so I'm not convinced.

Stuck at "connected, running sync loop"

Does anybody have a solution to the constant sync loop? I've read a few post about it but most were issues with cm Roms. I am running an att s4 with Google play edition ROM and a touchwiz stock kernal. Phone and moto 360 will connect fine for a while then out of the blue (usually after reboot) it will get stuck at running sync loop which destroys my phone battery. Any help or work around would be appreciated. I've already tried rebooting, resetting, toggling Bluetooth, hiring the resync all apps button in the android wear app, deleting all wear apps ...nothing I do makes any difference. I can get all notifications on the 360 just fine too.
thats normal. It just means that your watch is connected to your phone.
Nothing to worry about
Normal is when it just says connected. When it says "connected running sync loop" it won't let my phone go into deep sleep and kills battery on phone in about an hour
i just got this today also.. had watch for 2 months and its always said connected.. it has something to do with google play services.. my phone updated google services automatically and right after i got the "running sync loop" message... but i don't know anything about google services..
from other threads it has been determined that this is what will be shown, after the Google Play Services 6.5 update
im getting it too.. not sure if its killing battery or not. but it seems to be.
i will know after this charge.
Definitely due to the Play Services update and is, at least in my case, definitely impacting battery life on phone.
I was able to turn off dev features and USB debugging and it now says connecting only.

then make sure they are all turned off. so far its working for me. good luck.
Just wanted to chime in and say +1 it being Google play services. Batter went from 80% to dead within 2 hours immediately after update and constant sync loop message. Will try the posted fixes momentarily.

This is not a bug.. No issues with it being displayed... Doesn't eat battery... It is the new display for those with developer options on phone enabled... Thinks you are a developer and gives more information.... Also displays xx seconds to connect if the connection is lost and it is retrying . .Also you get new bug reporting options in android wear app settings
If you don't want it displayed, disable developer options and reconnect to watch

I did find that it is attached to Dev mode, but yea, I am seeing a battery drain when it's on! if I need dev mode, i will just turn it back on when i need it. otherwise, i will save my battery.
im seeing no change in battey.
as it stands right now, i took the watch off the charger at 8am and now 8 hours later i am at 71 percent. i have ambient screen on and the sync loop message displays.
many times during the day i walk away from the phone so its sniffing the phone out at times and my wrist is always moving, plus the novelty of the watch is still new to me so im checking it, swapping watch faces, etc.
im running a watch face from watchmaker and i have the connect app and android wear app running along with the hart rate card thingy.
