Battery goes down after reboot - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Why does my battery go dramatically down after a reboot? It doesn't happen every reboot, but when it does, it goes down 5-10%..
I usually charge every night and when I wake up and unplug it. :/ help

Please give us some more information. Like is your phone rooted?
Which ROM/software are you running?
How long has this been happening?

Oh sorry wow forgot that.
I'm running cyanogenmod stock cm10 12/14 kernels. I don't remember exactly when it first happened but it'd been happening for about a month or so. There was no physical damage to the phone or battery. Also, I just noticed this, sometimes my battery goes down then back up without charge...
Note:in the screen shot I know i charged it a little bit but look at where it'd red and a little after the charging point at the yellow.

It sounds like a bug you got or you downloaded an app that went bad. Try a reflash of the ROM or delete all the apps and see which app was bad. I personally suggest a reflash.

Evo from hell????

It always seems like there's something wrong with my evo. This morning I went to pick up my evo after it was plugged in all night (like i do every night) and it was burning hot. I looked at it and it said it was 133 degrees so i unplugged it and turned it off immediately, after it cooled down I turned it back on and it was at 70% battery after it was charging all night, so it wasn't charging at all last night even though the light was on and it was showing a green full charge when I woke up. after I turned it on it was on for about 2 minutes then automatically rebooted and then was on for another 3 min and rebooted again for no reason. my phone reboots randomly alot. this happens to me a few times a day usually 2 or 3 times. sometimes while im doing something important and sometimes when the evo is int even being used.
Does anyone have any idea what my problem might be?
My evo setup is fresh 3.3, no custom kernel. ebay 3000mah battery no case or anything like that for overheating. ive been running this setup for months (just with lower fresh builds) and have random reboots. This is the first overheating issue. The only thing thats changed is I started using a .99 ebay blackberry micro usb but ive been using that for a week and never had a charging issue. my hw v is 3
I'm thinking that maybe the battery has an issue. Have you tried with the old battery? As far as the other problems that you have, it does not look good. Try reflashing, if it does not fix it then it is likely that you need your phone replaced.

Im not sure because Ive been using this battery a long time with no problem, even now I plugged in the phone and its charging fine with no problems. If it does this again tonight maybe its the battery, I was thinking maybe it was something to do with that battery being plugged in to long.

I would say it's your aftermarket battery or BB charger. Try and use the OEM accessories.

As I said before, try reflashing the ROM and see how it behaves. If the problem is still there AFTER a clean install then it is hardware related, if not then, well keep the ROM

Ahh lol welcome onboard! Yes I believe it's probably the charger and not the battery. $0.99? Great deal, but be careful.
I got the same over heating issue on the stock battery a day ago. It was burning hot when I woke up, and took out the battery with the ac on blast for a minute. It wasnt plugged in, so I was surprised it happened while on the stock battery. Went to my 3000mah battery from ebay, that I have never had any problems at all with.
I was running cm6 with stock kernel. Im guessing it was a freak accident, since no reboots or any after effect from the heat.
On the positive side, I was able to push down the screen due to the heat and fix my light leakage problem

That is precisely why you need to reflash so you can know for sure if it is a problem with the device itself or just a software glitch.
See if you have too many rotation options checked in cm settings. That made mine reboot a lot. Now just have 90 and no more issues...

I dont use CM I use fresh
The only external item left is the sdcard. Try another. If it still reboots, then return it for service/replacement. The low battery and heat and reboot can all be caused by a large amp draw. Install alogcat from market and look for messages indicating why. You could also use quicksysteminfo from market, and look at the dmsg's.
I have had a similar problem with my girlfriends Evo. Random reboots until it got to the point where it was just stuck rebooting. After reading this thread, I recognize battery heating as a symptom as well. I ended sending it in to HTC for warranty repair. It turned out to be a bad chip of some type. Having seen a number of threads regarding random rebooting, I wonder if there might not be a defective series of these chips. At any rate, the warranty process was quick and easy. No problems since I got the phone back. This was also an unrooted phone, so I think your ROMs are probably working correctly and it is more hardware issue.

judging by all my problems id have to say its a hardware issue, my phone seems like its always at 100% cpu and its awake time is always the same as its uptime and i only get about a 4 hour battery life

There was another thread exactly like this a month ago. The answer is no. There is circuitry and scripts to stop charging.

I've heard this too. My ex girlfriend seems to think that it actually causes the battery to swell and inflate, causing it's eventual demise.

This was the case with older batteries and much older phones all modern phones protect against this. I still unplug right away out of habit though.
As a note:
When the phone charges to full and your little blue light comes on, the phone enters a state of constant discharge and recharge. Meaning that if you leave it plugged in once fully charged, when you finally take it off the charge actually may be anywhere between 95-100%.

Redownload the ROM again then it might be a bad download. Also do it from a computer not your phone.
still no luck...i odined all the way back to eg30...with the factory restore provided by sfhub <mite have the name wrong> it was working for awhile but then it started happening again...the screen would flicker signal would drop almost like back in the los days then my phone would shut off when i restarted it the battery reading would be 0% after being at 90 and then when i did a battery pull the battery life would go back up to what it was before it errored out and after a few min the screen would flicker the signal would drop out and everything would repeat again

Did you figure out what was wrong with your phone?
My international GSII is doing the exact same thing. Screen and lights flicker then the phone shuts off. After a restart the battery is at 0 or 1% and shuts off immediately. Sometimes after a reboot it will have the correct amount of battery and work fine.
Check your battery compartment is clean and the contacts are ok and clean on both the battery and the phone. Also make sure the battery cover is keeping the battery snug. Maybe put a piece of a business card above the battery to make certain it is not able to jostle during use.

You may try odining EL29 full build with regular Odin and checking clear phone efs. This clears the video cache on the phone and may help solve the issue. I do this myself every so often as a preventative measure.

If my new battery doesn't fix it I'll Odin the Rom and Kernel to something safe later tonight. Thanks for the EFS tip! :good:
Just a quick update for anyone that might run into this problem later. I bought a new Anker 1750 mah battery and not only is my battery life back to normal (maybe even better), but no random power offs! Looks like my original Samsung battery took a crap.
I'd take the battery back to a Sprint store. They are designed to last at least one year so they might test it and give you a new one. The factory replacement batteries are expensive.

hey everybody thanks for all the replies sorry it took so long to update...and i really wished i had read the battery comments becuz it woulda saved me the huge ordeal i went through
pretty much what happened is I called sprint they sent me a phone in the mail becuz ilive outside the 50mi radius from a service center....the phone they sent me did the same thing so i called back and they sent me another phone....the phone they sent me did the same thing so i called back and got a new phone...the phone they sent me started doing the same hting....so i called again and i asked if it could b the battery the tech was a real **** and was like its not ur battery becuz its holding a charge and it powers the phone on so they sent me a new phone....the phone they sent did the same thing and before they would send me a new phone they made me drive the 50mi in to get my phone looked at the guy checked my phone for 5min and told me i needed a new phone....so i called sprint again and my options were to get **** phones or get a white e4gt...i rrrreeeaaalllyyy didnt want a white one but it was my only choice so they sent me the phone in white and with a new battery and so far so good
So it's definitely a battery issue? cause my phone just started doing the same thing about a week ago. (very Annoying)
I thought maybe it was the rom, but I have installed 3 different roms and they all do the same thing.
Ordering a new battery now, Thanks for the info.

Phone won't charge unless I don't touch phone

Lately my phone drains even while on the charger. I basically can't use it while charging or it won't go past the percentage its at, sometimes. Its driving me crazy anyone else experiencing this or have. Any tips?

I've been having the same problem for two weeks now. I thought it might be the charger so I bought a new one. It wasn't. Sometimes it will chargw normal but most of the time it just stays at the aame percentage if I'm using it while charging and it seems to get really hot. What rom/kernel you running?

Just got my S3 last week so not super familiar with it yet but just a couple of practical things to try. First switch out the cord and the charger, if that doesn't do anything and you have an extra battery or can borrow someone's see if that makes a difference. Also are you rooted, what ROM, and how long have you been on that ROM. My guess is those its not root or ROM related at all. Either the battery is going or the charger or cord isn't supplying the right voltage somehow. The only other possibility is that it is charging and its not registering. If you are rooted with TWP recovery it will show your batt percentage in recovery. Reboot to recovery and see if it matches up with what your seeing on your phone.
The charger and brick charges my gnex fine. I've used multiple ROMs to see if its a ROM issue. I've used darthstarker, synergy, root box, liquid smooth, and now I'm on deviant xone. Tried different kernels as well. I have ordered a couple zero lemons.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
try a different battery, and also try going into recovery if you have twp and see if the percentages match up. You could also download battstat and wipe the current stat just to try it because you never know lol.
It's more likely a software issue than hardware.
As in, let's see some battery stats.

Only reason I was thinking hardware is if he has flashes multiple roms and kernels and the problem is still there I doubt it's software, but that was my initial thought also. Just figured if he can try a different battery that for sure says it's in the phone.
It happens to me when I first got the phone. Then I realized the phone is really picky about the the cable and the charger you use. Using everything stock will guarantee you a quick charge. I use a 2 Amp brick and OEM SamSung cable and it charges just fine. Using USB extension cord might slow down your charging also. So maybe just play around with your brick and cable a bit and see if it fixes your problem.

At first, I thought the same thing. But when you flash multiple roms, do your apps change? I know mine don't. I use the same apps regardless of rom. We can't know anything without more information, just putting out there what I consider to be another valid point of view.
Here's a shot of my battery notice its on the charger and decreasing? I'll post a battery log later when it dies

S4 Mini on CM 13 ROM won't even show logo

Hey everyone
My i9190 (Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini 3G) no longer starts up - and by that, I mean it doesn't even vibrate and show the Samsung logo when I hold down the power button. I'd flashed the CM 13 nightly only a day before this happened. I'd left it on at home when I went out, and when I came back I found it was off, and it doesn't respond to any key combination I try to make it work. My recovery is TWRP, I'd flashed a custom kernel a month back but replaced it with the CM kernel again when I found the custom one didn't offer anything new.
I'm thinking about sending it to Samsung for repairs, but I don't know if they'll fix it because it had been rooted ever since I found out about CM 12.1 in May 2015 from here. Can anyone offer some advice regarding how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure it was... but anyway turns out the internal motherboard's battery may have died or something, because when I left it on the charger overnight, it showed the charging battery frame while switched off! Earlier even plugging it in didn't seem to start it up, but now when I held the power button, it started working normally!
Thanks for your concern anyway!
